I haven't watched the most recent batch of episodes yet. Not sure why. I actually posted about Mao Mao before it was even announced, as I made the threads at the start of the year regarding the copyrights and leaks. Yet I feel like this "fandom" exploded and left me behind. Same thing happened with Star vs., where nobody on Yea Forums cared about it one bit before it premiered yet I was making threads back when all we had was a premise.

Not sure why I tend to back off from these shows when they're actually popular. It's the shows that are unpopular that I like the most.

I hate the apps, not only because they're clunky and tedious to set up, but also cause they've made view counts inaccessible to the public. Netflix and Youtube have conditioned kids to want a whole season of episodes released in one batch so they can binge it. Mao Mao isn't a top tier show, so they release a ton at once so more kids will binge it and hopefully want more.
Serialization is dying, you can see it in comics too in how graphic novels and trade paperbacks are beginning to overtake issue by issue comic books as the main method of consumption for comics. People, including kids, are beginning to demand everything upfront instead of wait and savor.

She’s pretty bloodthirsty usually, but has never encountered a situation where MM and BC /didn’t/ want to hurt a monster. There’s also theories that she didn’t like having a new little sister.

They had to shoehorn a joke into his “dramatic farewell” about BC accidentally going the wrong way because even that was too much. It’s also been mentioned a few times that he couldn’t grasp what was happening because he’s not used to dads caring about their kids like that.

Hmm I get the impression this show is popular because of the theories you people come up with for melodrama involving Mao's family. I see the episodes and they're comedic for the most part outside of snippets of melodrama and even potentially serious segments are just a joke like Mao lying about Bao being this dangerous criminal bastard mercenary with a blood thirst. You're acting like furries, drama this drama that. The show is not going to deliver what you think. In fact if Mao's flashback with his father is true, then the father? He's not evil, he's like Timmy Turner's neglectful father and that's it. And neither character for this archetype is evil and they're used for comedy.

I think you're all setting yourself up for disappointment just like with Adventure Time (though in that case AT always returned to the status quo making continuity worthless).

What would you rate this show? I haven't watched a cartoon regularly since adventure time and that had a slow, painful death. I've tried filling this animated hole in my heart with gumball, SU, and OK KO and cant stand any of them (despite loving the OK KO pilot some years ago).

I'd rate it a 8/10, but I like all of the cartoons you said you hate, so my opinion probably means nothing to you.

Personally I'd give it a 7.5/10, but since I'm like you and have basically been off of current western cartoons for years, I'd bump it up to an 8 or 8.5 because it finally got me to watch and actually enjoy something currently airing. There are some things I don't like about it, and I'm worried these threads will become unusable, but I would say this show is 100% worth checking out.

The show is because it's animation. But when fanart is just 2 colors it's goddamn dull. Especially when it consists of a single picture, put some actual work into it.

How else would the shading be done and how many layers of colour is ideal? How would you make good fanart with a cartoony style as opposed to this?

Complaining about the shading of all things on a fandom piece of fanart posted to Yea Forums of all places is just silly, but using either darker shades of the base color, or a complementary color to create shade is considered the proper way to do it since it develops shade without sacrificing tone.
Is bullshit because it relies on digital tools instead of developing a real eye to truly improve.
