Disney movies kind of started the mindset that animation is only for kids and it stuck.

This. Samurai Jack was the only one that remotely qualifies

drawing takes time effort and skill. Americans in the 90s don't have much of either. and japs are willing to overwork themselves and live together in studio. this paved the ground work and reputation of quality story telling. they win every time

simple case of people that have less having to work harder. value certain basic skills more and sharpen them.

Because America knows that drawings are childish so why tell a serious story in such a goofy medium?

animation lends itself better to comedy because it possible to show absurd things that would be hard to do with real actors. "serious" shows just dont call for that as much

>Fire Force
>serious

only reason is money
it costs tons of money to animate

Doing serious cartoon would require more than what the calarts art style could bring. Adventure time tried to tackle something serious once in a lifetime but the 20 minute episodic format didn't lend itself to that. The new Castlevania series is pretty good but it took them a year to produce 8 episodes.

They stopped trying when Fire and Ice flopped.

>Fire and Ice flopped
YOU TAKE THAT BACK

Because unlike Japan, the US has had a thriving film industry since the 1920's and serious films could always be made via live action. Most of the reason for Japanese anime's existence is because it's cheaper and faster to produce

You'll never be able to sympathize with a cartoon character more than you could a real live actor

why america does thing????
because america big dumb!!!!!!

Furthermore what can be done with animation is limited by what the audience will accept.

This isn’t true. Actors can botch performances, expressions, and lines and easily eject a viewer from the experience. Talented artists can build the exact expressions to maximize audience empathy. Also how the entire idea behind anime aesthetics is to build designs around how human memories interpret the appearance of people who are loved/hated.

Watch Grave of The Fireflies, you triple entende nigga!

>kid is a dumb asshole
>gets sister killed

... wow so sad

Bojack is more serious than most animus

Bojack is garbage by/for people who self-diagnose depression.

I think Bojack is pretty good.

That shit was hilarious

what? lol no.

given how effectively comedy shows like the Simpsons and R&M deal with serious themes when they want to, it would be more logical to ask why the Japanese are so shit at comedy.

The abilities of classical technique and construction in drawing basically disappeared in the West in the 1950s, no art school caught it by the end of the 1960s. So no one can create stuff like that save the handful of Disney and Bluth animators who either learned from the greats or are self-taught. In Japan it survived more (although it has also sort of degenerated)

>how effectively comedy shows like the Simpsons and R&M deal with serious themes when they want to
Simpsons maybe, Rick and Morty? Fuck no.

Its dumb. Also America is going through a dumbing down of our entertainment and we seemed to be letting Japan fill the gap for action cartoons while we produce shit.

Bojack is ok

I also want to add that drawing classical art which is the foundation of good animation is a high-T thing

Basedboys can't do it so obviously it has disappeared

>triple entende nigga!
What did he mean by this and why did it make me laugh

Actually I’d say it’s the opposite. The actor is limited by his acting ability. The animation can show any range he wants.

Avatar is the best animated show I have seen and as fucking retarded and bad Korea was they tried to be serious

Why isn't there any hentai of game of thrones?

Hello phoneposter

Bojack is Duckman for millenial redditors

Duckman was about the hypocrisy of the times. Bojack is about disingenuous ennui.

FUCK and it's a tablet I am bedridden at the moment

Lol no, what?

>tfw we'll never get a full multi-season 40k animation

Attached: 55e.jpg (600x602, 71K)

40k is garbage

Samurai jack is for 14yo and under. If you're 15+ and think samurai jack isn't strictly a kids show then you have sex with men for pleasure while being a man yourself.

its not lack or skill or too much work. the big companies just follow the "cult of personality" doctrine. they want people to recognize the actors and do as the actors do, and get instant and guarenteed views due to them.

When people try and name a "serious" Western cartoon, they either say Samurai Jack, or Legend of Aang/Korra.

Attached: 52b8dd8a-eff2-4ed2-9b8d-7c0039df1c53.jpg (400x600, 38K)

Only if you're dumb enough to take it seriously. It's intentionally over the top, wacky, and indulgent. Sometimes it's just fun to kick back and get goofy with huge guns, demons, and spaceships.

So you’re saying you want a wacky show about the wacky 40k universe.

Most of the fans of 40k take it dead serious.

Well, the issue is that most western animation follows the episodic format without much of an overarching plot, ie. what happens in one ep will be completely forgotten and never brought up again in another. In comparison to eastern animation where most shows are plot-centric and directly follow from one ep to the next. I think that's a big part why nothing too deep or serious is usually allowed to develop.

Says the overweight shut-in whose reason for still breathing is thanks to safety warnings and stop lights.

You haven't heard of sleeping beauty, cinderella, lion king, pocahontas, and mulan? there's also the last airbender and legend of kora.

Because serious cartoons create more manchildren as seen with weebs than kid cartoons do which mainly only sticks with a younger audience. Also have sex and anime is gay, possessing weak beta males pushed around by cold bugwomen whores.

dont like it fuck off to reddit

I thought it was supposed to be a comedy, got incredibly bored one episode in. It's just a surface level exploration of modern day "depression" with a whacky "lol but he's a horse!" coat of paint.

If you are shitting on Western cartoons not having serious themes, watch them again. American cartoons have a dark undercurrent beneath all it's slapstick comedy. Ducktales is a good example of this.

Yeah of course its for kids. Still, it's serious in tone, thats what the thread ask.

Higurashi is kino.

japanese animation is worse than american, they don’t teach stories or life lessons to kids, they just sell sex and deliver a “plot devices will come to you like in real life, you don’t have to go out and work hard to get love, success, and friends” mentality

Stop spewing lies. Watch anime and then you can have your say on what you think of it. You just make yourself look like a fool by pretending to have knowledge about it.

literally every anime plot is loser loner gets powers and a harem, fights a villain of the week, and add first year philosophy quotes and blood and gore and it’s “serious”

that’s why most anime fans are losers

>castelvania good
I couldn't even finish it cause the writing was so bad.

Opposite for me
I rarely sympathize with real actors
I sympathize greatly with so many anime characters

Heh. Made me kek

That's like saying that all movies are capeshit. Are you retarded or just baiting?

Nah

Fool proves my point. What a ’surprise’!
As expected. I expected a fool and you gave me it.

You don't watch a lot of anime, do you? That's not true of almost 80 percent of modern anime

S2 is worth getting to and the first season is quick. So unless you have a mild case of ADHD, watch it for S1. Dracula is fleshed out more in 2.

Okay name me five recent anime shows that don’t have any of what I just said.

I watched yesterday the epic episode 19 of the anime Kimetsu no Yaiba
One of Japan's biggest tv hits this year

Cartoons are for kids, autist.

>S2 is worth getting to
no its trash, just watch the penultimate episode for the Dracula fight, the rest isn't worth anyone's time.
and with S1 just watch the Alucard fight and move one

Ping Pong
Sword of the Stranger
Pretty much any Ghibli film
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Lupin III
Tomorrow's Joe / Ashita no Joe

Cowboy Bebop
Even FMA:B which is a shounen doesn't fit that

Dude, watch the first episode of The Promised Neverland

You seem sensitive on this subject. Evidenced by how literally no one has made any value judgement of 40k.

TPN goes to shit so quickly, also the anime is shit and shouldn't even be touched.

Bambi

One of the best tv shows in 2019

Also, going with only "recent" anime is stupid, considering the fact that there are always going to be garbage fads and most of what's actually good, as is with film or TV as well, is spread out over the course of literal years. Manga is far superior to anime and has many current series worth reading.

No,that is something not of need. You know that you’re in fault here, but you just cant let go of this discussion now can you? Because quite frankly i find it very disturbing that an individual would stoop this level. Prolonging a meaningless talk even when you yourself are aware of being in the fault. I pity you. Very puny.
The end. Mature until next time.

>kids can’t watch scary stuff

cringe.

The closest thing to an “adult” anime I can think of is LOGH or something. 99% of the market is for kids and horny teens: pedophiles.

Fuck you I'm gonna name 5 just from this season alone

Carole & Tuesday
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo
Granbelm
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note
Vinland Saga

Also because animation can do things that you can't do in live action.

The west has very little talent or respect for animation its always been seen as less than live action movies or shows so they get incredibly cheap budgets. Disney aside.

technically, but its closer to to cgi/motion graphic than traditional animation. Even rotoscoping animation more closely follows the basics of animation than that crap. what always stands out for me from this style of animation is how shit the cinematography would be considered if it wasn't disguise with this meme filter

>From Simpsons

The author of the story has stated is literally what happens.

you know what recent means?

the most shocking thing about this thread being moved to Yea Forums is discovering that Yea Forums has mods

>get a real thread going among mountains on spam
>lol let's remove it
BRAVO MODS!

cartoons are not real cinema

>a real thread
That shit was offtopic from the beginning.

Because they want series that you could jump in at anytime. Not shows filled with plot continuity.

Compared to Marvel movies? Yes they are
>offtopic
>on a board flooded with porn, politics and ecelebs

>this thread being moved to Yea Forums is discovering that Yea Forums has mods
no wonder this thread is so shit.

>whataboutism
Fucking kill yourself.

Indie movies do but nobody on this board wants to watch them, they'd rather bitch about something that exists not existing.

This

>3rd episode
>introduces supporting character
>tsundare that wears bikini visible under super loose fire gear
>5 sec later
>mc "accidentally" grabs titties
>2 sec later
>mc "accidentally" grabs ass
>later...
>she's actually a fire furry

This is after a 2nd episode that sucked me in where they had to kill a father that turned into a fire monster, but had the restraint to control himself so he wouldn't harm his family.

I hate how anime draws me in and then immediately whips me out with shit "humor" and fanservice because their fanbase is full of weebs and otakus.

anime is softcore fetish porn and I wonder why I sift thru mountains of shit to find gems.

Attached: Capture.png (1672x931, 1.49M)

>anime
I'm curious, Did western realize most japanese light novel anime is shit ?

>Using a picture from fire force
I'm not say you don't have a point just that it's a bit odd to use a comedy anime as your pic.

The problem with "serious" content is that most Americans will consider shit like cape movies to be serious and deep to begin with. They also always associate "serious" with "politics" which limits the content even further

Fire Force is not a comedy. It looks like involuntary comedy, but is played straight.

Primal
Get bent brig/a/der

Would have been better as a set of theatrical films, 20 minutes of kids planning to escape gets old real fast.

Fall of the toy market. With toys and role playing toys dropping action shows became unviable as toys were what was subsidizing them.

Comedy shows with sadder cult followings buy merchnadise like statues, posters, mugs, costumes for kewds, etc. Pretty much anything but toys.

The unsaid point here is that animation is too expenaive to finance unless it synergizes with another market and is made as cheaply as possible.

Japan makes their toons cheap as well but are so culturally traditional and has worse pay pigs that they will by very expensive merchandise and watch shows for no reason than it was a show afew decades ago.

The should have gone with the topless version!

Thank god for that.

In my experience they only say its a goofy comedy when its criticized. Most players are dead serious about the lore.

I certainly haven't seen anyone laugh at those books trying to get children into the franchise.

Hanna Barbera popularized the idea that animation is a medium only fit for children. And decades upon decades of reinforcement of that idea have cemented it.
The executives in charge of approving shows and movies don't think there's any kind of market in animation for anyone besides very young kids, so it never gets made.

>A genre starts with a character and people who are like that character like the genre.

That is correct. It seems like a shallow rational but its true, look at comics for example. Comic sales are floundering because they are not catering to people who buy comics.

>people replying to this bait thread as if OP said something with the slightest bit of merit
If only Yea Forums knew shit about cartoons

Attached: cartoons.jpg (2689x4862, 2.9M)

>Why doesn't america make any "serious" cartoons?

If by 'serious' you mean action.
Canon Busters just came out
www9.gogoanime.io/category/cannon-busters

Compare their biggest figures.
Tezuka and Disney
Tezuka saw the anime/manga industry gearing towards a more "Just for kids lol" mentality and in response released shit like MW, Apollo's song and the like. Dark stories entirely unfit for children.
Disney saw the same thing happening and did nothing despite saying that only selling to kids would ruin the industry, so the toxically restrictive mentality festered in the industry.

There's also the fact that 99% of japanese anime/manga big names started in the Doujin markets where things like sex and violence are expected whereas the American industry is puritanical to the point shows can get smeared by the media if they have a single animator that drew or animated porn in the past.

Attached: op is a tard.jpg (6391x3771, 2.87M)

Disney would never be as big as it is now if this was true

It was a Yea Forums thread.

Mods are pathetic if they don't remove this

This thread was moved to Yea Forums from Yea Forums.

No wonder it's the lowest effort shit I've ever seen

oh
fucking christ I hate the fact we're the garbage dump board

>tales of arcadia
>not comedy based
user pls

have you watched the show? They make jokes but the show is entirely driven by the plot. Surely you don't think that having comedy means the show isnt serious

Because not enough people have seen Moral Orel.

>Disney movies kind of started the mindset that animation is only for kids and it stuck.

Honestly this. Like just because you say "Die" in a disney film doesn't mean anything. They legitimately are the bastards who ruined Western animation. Western animation will never consider the possibility of being anything even like Japanese cartoons until Disney dies.

From what I remember though Japan was inspired by Disney they avoided become sugary saccharine infantile junk because they lost the War. Losing that war meant they couldn't ignore the consequences of warfare, depression also set into the culture, etc. America on the other hand got high of its own farts and there we have Disney.

Disney needs to DIE for Western Animation to have a chance. I'm rooting for Disney to keep on going further Leftist with all its properties ESPECIALLY animation so they enter another dark age and one that hopefully kills them. Especially since they're basically all out of famous fairy tales to bastardize into their shit.

You can just ignore her, her only purpose is fanservice and both the author and Fairy Tail author like her because she's cute.

Fuck you for bumping this Yea Forumstard

Serious cartoons don't sell toys

Fire Force is a Shōnen. A series that targets 12-18yo boys. It’s also popular with men that are 18+. There’s gonna be fan service.

youtube.com/watch?v=g-MteECxZUY

In what way is Arcadia a comedy? You may as well call Harry Potter a comedy at that point.

That said
>Anime: Decent ideas, Good animation/art style, interesting settings, shit execution
Anime/manga tend to go to shit eventually before the ending gets even close. See Promised Neverland
>Cartoons: Meh ideas, the same setting pretty much every time, pretty good animation, pretty meh art style, decent execution.
Cal arts may have fucked art styles but a large majority of cartoons have the same general setting.

Sure a lot of Anime have a school setting but nowhere near as many cartoons.

>everything after they scape the farm is shit
not a good example

Because back when maturer action cartoons were prevalent in the 90s and 00s like JLU people were really scared of changing the status quo or having too much character development occur in the main cast because it might confuse kids drastically reduces how seriously the show can be taken.

Then later when we had Adventure Time what occurred was they went too far into plot development and storytelling but still were afraid of changing the status quo. So we were left with disappointing degrassi tier character drama, stuff like Jake going to be a dad then nothing, and villains that were hyped for basically no payoff.

>Sure a lot of Anime have a school setting but nowhere near as many cartoons
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
