Well the funding for the show isn't coming from Netflix, it's coming from DreamWorks. I don't know how important this is, but it's been on the trending slide for a week and a half. It's probably fine.

They cancelled like eight shows, among them was Tuca & Berti, The OA, Orange is the New Black, and Trinkets. There was an article complaining about those shows being helmed by female creators but I can't be assed to find it because it was bad and we all know it has nothing to do with their gender. My guess is with a bunch of other companies making their own streaming apps and pulling their content from Netflix it's making them lose money and they're just axing the shows that aren't making them that much money.

It's why I was wondering how well it was doing, I guess it depends how many views the show gets and how well the toys sell.

Tuca and Bertie is a weird case. They canned it because the studio was unionizing, but they worked with and are working with unionized studios. I'm not sure how seriously you can take Scorpia's claim that even before the Horde, the other princesses didn't much like her family. Scorpia seems like she would have been very young when the Horde took control, and from her "The Horde crash landed and we let them stay" explanation of the takeover, it seems like she's been the victim of Horde propaganda, much like Adora once was.

Hilda is cute and wholesome, has light and fun lore without very much depth, and quickly resolved adventures.

She-ra starts episodic, but turns plot-centric. There is a single important conflict that drives the series, and characters have different personal drama going on, strongly related to the main conflict.
It's a tough choice, like weighing a fruit salad /w yoghurt against a full course meal you've never tried.

If you think you might hate She-ra because you have various sociopolitical views that don't work well with what you see on the can, go with Hilda. I would personally recommend trying both, though.

Fair warning: First few eps of she-ra can be annoying, when new characters are being introduced. Lots of really lame humor. All gets better after ep 6 or so.

It's hard to explain but sometimes the original content doesn't live up to the quality of the joke as if the joke ruins the work. Like how some Japanese fandoms have a fancanon that is vastly superior to the original content and you'd just rather smile at the idea that someone crafted a wonderful situation from something that is merely okay.

Personally I'm not bothered by the sociopolitical bitching of the age. But I do dislike heavy handedness and let's face it, nobody is subtle about their political views in art nowadays. All I'd want from the series is a sexual tension that is used as a running gag and I'd be fine but that sort of tolerance for that sort of humor died a long time ago.

If the core of the show is relationships, I imagine this would be (should be?) Hordak's arc. Some user mentioned above about Nicole's Southern Protestant background possibly being an influence on Catra; for him, similarly it is that of seeking parental approval from a distant parent who long ago wrote you off.

Truth is, I don't think Hordak IS defective - or at least no more than others.
