What are some good Zatanna comics?
What are some good Zatanna comics?
well there's only like 25 of them to choose through so I'll review them all
Everyday Magic (2003) written by Paul Dini is the best book, but it's 90's art by Rick Mays might not hold up if your not into that sort of thing
The 12 issue ongoing series from 2010 is also mostly written by Dini is very good as well but is prematurely ended by the New 52, as he doesn't even write the final issue, the best part of this series are the gorgeous variant covers by Brian Bolland
Grant Morrison writes the 2006 series, which is tie in to crossover that is itself a tie in to another crossover, the art is really good by Ryan Sook and the side characters steal the show in this book.
Very underrated but very cool 1993 series, has Zatanna looking far different as anything you remember fighting off a demonic invasion in San Fran, the stand off of this book is some of the best pre digital coloring ever.
the 1987 Zatanna Special is a 70 page prequel story before she joined the Justice League in the 80's, more of a superhero story with a magical twist
Paul Didi returns again for the newest book 2014's Zatanna & Black Canary - Bloodspell, a OGN, which ties their origins together and has them team up to fight a cult, Zatanna doesn't really even appear till page 40 but the art is nice drawn by Howard the Duck and America artist Joe Quinones
>ywn make a career being one of the few people to write about your waifu
>ywn marry the real life version of your waifu
there's been a few good zatanna storytimes here. can we do another?
I'll post some stuff later
how much later? this thread isn't gonna stay up for long. you better make a new one when you're back.
how about Right FUCKING NOW!!!!!
1st off the book that started the madness 1964's Hawkman #4
imagine being young Paul Dini, cracking open your issue of Hawkman for the month and seeing this for the first time.
I don't know shit about Hawkman so feel free to give context if you got it
apologies for quality of the scans from some of this material in advance.
Does Zee use adjectives to power up her spells? Like "repyh cigam tsalb" or "raeppasid yltelpmoc"
no.
End.
as you can see even in the beginning it's all here, the fishnets, the top hat and backwards talking
Zatanna search for her father would continue throughout the 1960s in Atom #19, Detective #335, #355 Green Lantern #42 and Justice League of America #52 and follow roughly the same format seen in this issue.
I'll be back later with some more stuff.
what's she trying to say? also i love how all these old comics have downright fetish shit all over the place. zatanna being stuck in place, surrounded by men.. i wonder if the writers knew what they were doing?
Neat, thanks!
Got Wings. Got Mace. Hates Shirts. Loves the Wife. Fights Crime.
Zatanna blasting people with huge waves of magic is cool
More blasting
has she ever cursed a villain or made his life more miserable?
I mean she lives in gotham most of the time, why hasnt she put a curse an people like pyg or riddler?
Not a huge magic beam but I like how her magic here is portrayed as if she twisted reality to merge a monster with the earth
She once turned a crowd of hundreds into vampire bats and sicced them on the Joker. Does that count
and I'm back jumping ahead to Zatanna's Post Crisis Origin in 1988's Secret Origins #27
How does her backwards thing work? The spell could be simplified, but us it stronger this way?
talking backwards is just her focus
It seems the more complex the effect the more words she needs like instead of simply saying sink, she casted a spell so the earth both swallows the monster and keeps him there. Since it needs one of the otherkind to release him later that issue
Homo Magi first appeared in 1979
Are the homo magi still in continuity? Zatanna is refered to as a simple magician in the new JLD
yeah they're still n current continuity
I wish we had more Zatara stories
he's barely in the New 52
>Zatara's death meant less than nothing to me. I barely remembered his face
Ouch
that was great. MORE!
So he was lying about that whole story?
bump
bump with something good
