Heard some mixed things about Wakfu, is it worth watching?

It was a rollercoaster for me. Season 2 had its ups and downs but was generally fun. I hated the OVAs for a number of reasons. Season 3 brought me back on board for a while until I went "nope, it's being stupid again" and finished it with a similar mindset to Game of Thrones: entertaining, but I don't really care anymore.

Dofus, though. That's where it's at as far as I'm concerned.

to be fair to wakfu s3 i still definitely managed to finish it. could not be bothered to do the same for GoT, even starting s8 was a questionable decision for me. for how much i disliked the plummet in quality in wakfu, the GoT downfall is just on an entirely different astronomical scale

I will agree that I only watched GoT 8 because I knew it was the last season and all of my friends would watch and talk about it anyway. If not for that, I was done with it; and because of that, I wasn't really bothered anymore by how bad it got.

Wakfu I suppose I would still watch out of morbid curiosity even if it got worse still. But it also hurts more on a personal level to see it get botched.

yeah in wakfus case even if the scale of falling to shit wasnt as big, it certainly was a lot faster. with GoT it already reeked with the start of the 5th season with the stench only getting worse and worse (I'd at least give that 6 was a small uptick from 5) so by the time 8 rolled around i already built up a fair amount of desensitization. and if wakfu somehow came out of the grave for season 4 I'd still be a lot more willing to give it a chance even given how shitty things already irrevocably have become in the storyline

For me it's also a matter of context. GoT is just GoT and it's gone to shit so I left it behind, but Wakfu exists beside Dofus and the comics and so on, and not everything just went downhill at once. There's still great writing elsewhere and there can be good Wakfu episodes again depending on who is in charge and how well they keep it together.

So they can keep baiting me in again and again and cancelling my favorite projects :(

I haven't been keeping tabs, but they're still releasing the Wakfu and Ogrest manga and I assume they're still working on their non-Krosmoz movie and their next game. Xavier Houssin still posts character art from time to time.

Oh fuck that reminds me. Oropo's love for Amalia was already burning but when all the eliotropes that love her as much as him went inside him, that must've turned into an obsession. Since Echo has shapeshifting abilities you can guess he abused it (and her) to hell and back. Every time they had sex he must've asked her to shapeshift into the same sadida girl, maybe even ask her to act like Amalia would act. He never made love to Echo, he only made love to a copy of Amalia and she was okay with it. Then came the final blow that was the kiss with Amalia in front of everyone.

Just finished season 2. First half was an absolute slog to get through but the final battle was awesome. Honestly the only thing keeping me watching is that the artstyle and colour use really speaks to me. If it came out when I was a kid I would have absolutely been a total mark for it.

I don’t know the number but I know they released the last one recently. No idea about Ogrest but I expect it will take at least a year again until we get the next one so I’m not holding my breath for news.

Season 3 was ok, but wasn't the best. I did like the crazy guy dolly or whatever the orange haired guys name fought in season 3.

Small correction: watch Nox's backstory before episode 21 of Season 1. Seeing Nox as a human being before the final fight makes it way more meaningful and it also contextualizes Igôle as more than a weird hyena-looking monster of the week.

Wakfu is more enjoyable with the french vas. The first 2 seasons and the OVAs have terrible dubs. Season 3 has a better english dub with different voice actors

I remember watching Wakfu with Yea Forums back when it was new. We were finding some of the animators blogs and get sneak peaks of some new episodes, like being able to see the true form of Rubilax months before the episode aired. Or getting the last 3-4 episodes all a few days earlier because Ankama uploaded them using predictable filenames. What happened to Nox is still one of the saddest things I've seen happen to a villain (he barely beats the protagonist in the end, after killing off half the cast and genociding 1/12th of the planet to feed his machines, and then all the power he acquired after 200 years of vampiric leeching was enough to travel back twenty minutes).

Also I remember everyone was speculating his story, and we were thinking that he accidentally killed his family. Turned out he just got so obsessed that they left him. Poor guy.

Season 3 was a gigantic downstep. Part of what made Wakfu look good was that they used Flash in a way that looked great (since all the animators they had worked on Flash games beforehand). Plus they had Xa's lady designs. And since they had no experience making a cartoon, they had over-designed models, meaning the characters all had a shitton of detail.

Season 2 already streamlined things to be more simple, meaning less detailed. And they started doing traditional animation more often, which just looks jarring since you can see how some scenes drop to 4-frames-a-second animation.

Season 3 had fuck-all budget so they simplified things EVEN MORE, despite 10 years passing in-universe, everyone looked the same, the animation is worse, the models now have zero details, they are reusing the same "dynamic poses" whenever possible (remember how Sailor Moon could spend 1 minute reusing the same footage every episode? They do the same here). They even swipe animation from the previous seasons.

Wakfu season 3 is just really low budget and it shows.

I honestly wasn't that impressed with Wakfu, but it's certainly distinct and worth checking out at least once. Season 1 (minus the boufball, preferably) and the Nox OVA would be a good watch. I haven't watched enough Dofus to really offer an opinion.

It does feel like power creep is a big problem at Ankama. Smaller scale stories like Remington's and Elaine's get phased out over Tot's masturbatery Iop gods.

Power creep is definitley Ankama's biggest problem with their writing.

Seems like they overexerted themselves with that heap of books for just season 1. I would have settled for a single book like season 3 got though.

Dofus still does what it sets out to do more consistently than Wakfu.

Season 1 is kind of sloppy but it has some really great moments and it's worth watching for Nox alone.

Season 2 is even sloppier but it to has its moments even though they're fewer and far in between.

Season 3 has some really good animation but it suffers from a far more serial story that just isn't that good and it might have helped kill the franchise.

Dofus the show and movie are a lot more consistent and are definitely worth a watch too.

Yes and no. The animation improves and they use more hand drawn art for specific angles/pose but it's still mostly flash tweening. I think only the Dofus movie had proper frame-by-frame animation.

Not really, but if you've only watched the first few episodes, give it a try.
They didn't have any experience doing cartoons before Wakfu, so the animations are clunky at first.
But when they got the hang of it, results were very impressive for Flash.

Season 1 is worth watching, Season 2 is a kind of mediocre tie in to the ancient Eliotrope stuff from that Xbox game you can't get any more. OVA and Season 3 are bad fanfiction.

IF they ever air it, I'm starting to be convinced that this was all some kind of sick joke at this point.
That aside all I'm hoping for is that some remnants of the concept art for the original version of the game make it onto the show, the catfish deluxe duo spoiled us immensely with those.

I don't really mind Tristepin being Iop all along but they really should have kept a handle on it so he stayed equal with the other characters. I think the final straw was Rubilax giving him shapeshifting powers.

He immediately rips the child apart and uses the essence to power up the masks. Her purpose complete, he never takes notice of her again.

I'd like a "next generation" series, where Yugo and Co's stuff is stuff of legend and it's a bunch of new characters in the 15-18 age range doing small time adventures. Especially if it featured classes not in the main cast, like a party made up of an Eniripsa, Sram, Feca, Sacrier and Huppermage.

It would be pretty great. Yugo's a little older while Elely and Flopin are young teens like their parents where. Miranda's daughter could be the new Black Crow and they could meet an adult Elaine from her comics.

Lots of potential to revisit the stuff that made Wakfu GOOD. But like says, Tot's an idiot.

Elely & Flopin, if they weren't literal demi-gods who would destroy everything the original party encountered in season one, would be an alright core for a new party. Brother and Sister duo is a classic, but they're off in god land now. I fear if there is a next season they won't be depowered any time soon.

My only hope would be an for entirely new party who's quest is to rescue the main cast.

It was a nice distraction from my soul crushing work. I found it therapeutic, but a bit childish at times.

The first two villain had motivations, with the first one being great. Season one is worth watching, would watch season two if bored. I stopped just after the second big bad got defeated. Partly as their release schedule was a mess as I had caught up and partly because the layout for the third conflict didn't make much sense. Maybe there was more, but they seemed to be bad for being bad as the actions and goals didn't match for the first few episodes where I dropped it.

If you're familiar with Tot explanations you may already be aware of the concept that Tot loves to put the blame on everyone he works with when he is, in fact, the common factor in all of Ankama's failures. It's highly likely the japs were doing their job and he fucked that up, just like he fucked up Welsh & Shedar and then took out his anger on Kerubim for daring to be a success without him.

I'd be shocked if tot was active on season 1, looking back at his track record there's just no way he had a major part in what made the s1 story so incredible compared to the rest of the mainline wakfu stories, or really most of the wakfu storylines in general

Nah, I can believe it. Tot’s main issues as far as I’m concerned are power creep and his Iop boner, both of which hadn’t had time to encroach on everything else back in season 1. It’s not like he’s completely devoid of talent, and I know that the heavy reliance on the themes of family and immortality is something he’s personally behind, so I can’t imagine he would have let someone else handle everything that made Nox and the finale so great.

I’m pretty sure the artbooks paint a clearer picture of who did what throughout the season, but I don’t have time to look that up.

The thing that I wondered the most about seasons 1 and 2 was about the Cra... kingdom? Matriarchal Dictatorship? Cras seem to have military ranks, Cleophee lived in a barracks and somehow deserted and would be punished for leaving without permission. Leads me to wonder how the Cra kingdom is organized.

Still, if I was in charge I'd make an Eniripsa the MC because of their class description has them travel the world looking for new magic words and potion ingredients. Great adventure material there.

You will be super lost if you know nothing outside of the first couple seasons of Wakfu. It takes place roughly 400ish years before Wakfu and has a couple seasons of Dofus take place before it.
