Maybe it's just the vehement racist in me, but I found it kind of unbelievable how Miles magically gets competent in the span of 10 minutes

Didn't have too much of a problem with that, the movie did shit on Miles a bit. What did turn me off a bit was how Miles and his dad just deface public property as a tribute to his uncle.

I must respectively disagree. Spiderverse looks like mixture of cell shading CG and flash animation. Both of which I find visually repulsive. The fact that the design and animation are such an eyesore is the soul thing from keeping me from seeing that movie. Everything I've seen about it is just so fucking ugly.

He spends most of the movie flailing, it's only when he finally lets his instincts takeover for the finale that everything "clicks". It's certainly more earned than what most people would have done.

It's better than hyper realistic texture Pixar knockoff #261 at least. You can tell a lot of love went into the animation from the sheer amount of tiny details alone. Not to mention it's one of the few comic book movies out there that actually try to emulate a comic book in presentation.

He didn't magically became good.
At first he gained control of his specific abilities because, as they constantly told him, he had to relax and focus. Which he only was able to do after he sorted out his personal problems with his father.
Then, when he first put on the black outfit, the music and directing made it seem like this is where he shows off how awesome he is now, but he was still falling down a few times on his way to the collider. Then when he was there at the climatic battle he was quite good, but remember what Peter said near the beginning of the movie: You learn fastest when you're near death danger. In other words, it was foreshadowed.

My personal problem was that not only has he all the same powers as the others, but ALSO two additional ones. If he weren't still a newbie in this movie, he would so overpowered

Into the Spider-Verse is just more evidence that comics are only useful as a test bed for characters and concepts that will later be put to better use by writers that actually know what the hell they're doing, in mediums that people actually give a shit about. The comic version of Miles, like the comic versions of Iron Man, Civil War and Captain Marvel, is really just a prototype.

Still got my copy of issue 1. It's a bit battered but I love it.
