Surprisingly OK KO is not made in flash like Steven Universe or TTG is. While all three of them use Adobe Photoshop Elements, Ian in his insane judgement wants to use Toonz like SU does.

DESU Toonz can make some good shit as Studio Ghibi used it to make Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, etc but the professional version is expensive as fuck and a clusterfuck in UI/development time. It's like the Unreal Engine for 2D animation, it can work wonders for a master but turn out shovelware shit from newcomers. While Flash can be clunky and is slowly dying out on the web, it's still a cheaper and easier used standard in animation. If Ian and Rebecca weren't ripping off anime 24/7, they could just use Adobe Animate and cut their budget by at least 25% minimum.

Plus they busted the bank early on to get to Hiroyuki Imaishi from Studio Trigger for their opening. The reason OK KO's opening is so good is because Hiroyuki both storyboarded and animated it. Same with the Pearl fight scenes when she was training Connie. What breaks their bank even more is that they have the Korean animation studio (who is more used to Adobe Animate), trying to use Toonz like their Studio Ghibli. Neither the koreans or Ian/Rebecca know the intricacies of Toonz nor do they need that powerhouse for their show since it's only good when a master like Hiroyuki uses it. It's the same issue with the Marvel Girls comics, the got Gurihiru to make the cover but let amateurs create the actual book in a completely different style.

SU gets away with it since their fanbase is a cult rivaling Homestuck, Undertale, and MLP combined. OK KO doesn't have that fanaticsm behind it and their hemorrhaging money trying to keep up on top of using an overly expensive program they don't need. Ian/Rebecca need to realize that just because you want to rip off anime, doesn't mean you have the talent/money to use the best Japanese Animators and their tools effectively.

I've seen dumber excuses on why some cartoons got canned, like Swat Kats being canned by Ted Turner's incompetence, Streets of Rage 4 (the old version) by Sega's then-president not knowing the games, and other action cartoons because of their ill-fated toyline which makes the budget.
