Why, I do believe it's time for some Silver Age!

Why, I do believe it's time for some Silver Age!

But enough about me, how was your day?

It's a Marvel day today, so expect plenty of Ditko and Kirby.

>We served our prison term! We're free now!
HOW????? How does this keep happening? Why do so many super-villains keep getting released from prison after only a few months? They're not rich guys that can bribe their way out. It would make sense if they included a line that the Ring-Master used his hypnotism to make the judge release them early, but Stan apparently thinks you can try to scam and steal money from hundreds of people, and then walk it off after a few months. Same thing happened with the Beetle and a bunch of other villains.

Attached: sgtfury16-20.jpg (953x1405, 732K)

Attached: sgtfury16-21.jpg (965x1397, 734K)

They have a point that they should find a new kind of caper, but that doesn't mean that they should follow the Clown, who is literally just a clown. The Ringmaster is still a criminal mastermind with very useful hypnotism powers.

Kind of weird how this story started with "Wasp's been shot, we must find the only doctor on Earth that can save her" and then devolved into "stop some more generic aliens".

Attached: sgtfury16-26.jpg (961x1409, 755K)

In hindsight, it's pretty weird that a major Spider-Man villain spent such a long time as a Fantastic Four villain.
Also, it's funny how the Sandman started wearing a purple shirt instead of a green one to match the color scheme of the rest of his team.

I forget, the explanation eventually given for why Medusa was living in a cave and joined up with the Wizard was because Maximus gave her amnesia or something, right?

Attached: sgtfury16-33.jpg (1000x1479, 679K)

I think she gave herself amnesia so Maximus wouldn't find her.

>Scott and Jean didn't invite the FF to their wedding. In fact, no X-Man ever invited non-mutants or non-family members to their wedding except for Storm.
This is why nobody likes the X-Men

>I know you have sworn never to take a human life!
I wonder how long it took for writers to abandon that.

Don't know what the fuss is about. it's okay tier alternate universe fodder.
Otherwise just rehashing yet another spiderman origin but with a blaxican pallate swapped for PP

I liked how the animation genuinely tried to push the envelope, and how Miles' story arc plays with what we "know" Spider-Man must be.

It doesn't play with it at all. It's all been done.
Posting silver age stuff you should know this.
But sure, a couple of gender and race swaps and "woke" moments is totally comparable to actual creativity.

Okay, you look at how Miles interacts with his family, and how the fight scenes are directed, and tell me that there's no creativity in this movie.

>and how the fight scenes are directed,
Ghost in the shell did it already.

There's no creativity in this movie. Its "yet another spider-man origin"

As always, my storytime of Silver Age X-Men will be accompanied by commentary from now-defunct blog The X-Axis.

>It's the debut of Ka-Zar and the Savage Land - both of which go on to be mainstays of the Marvel Universe. In fact, Ka-Zar isn't an entirely original creation, but I'll come back to that. At this stage, the Savage Land is simply an inexplicable tropical jungle in the Antarctic; some 20 years later, it was explained as a wildlife preserve built by aliens.

>There's a really nice panel on page 2 with Marvel Girl telekinetically dismantling a rifle into an exploded view. It's not the sort of thing you really associate with Kirby, but it's great.

>Scott and Jean are still pining for one another.

>Ka-Zar happily wanders around Antarctica - outside the Savage Land - wearing only a loincloth.

>In fact, this issue suggests that the Savage Land is buried beneath Antarctica. However, if that's the idea, it doesn't make much sense. For one thing, it's rather unclear why the Savage Land has its own sky. Maybe Stan Lee had some sort of magical tunnel in mind. Anyhow, it's certainly not the approach that was followed in later stories.

>Ka-Zar is a revamp of a Golden Age character of the same name, created by author Bob Byrd. The character appeared in Marvel Comics #1 (October/November 1939) and Marvel Mystery Comics #2-27 (December 1939 to January 1942). However, he first appeared in pulp fiction magazines from 1936. The publisher of those magazines was Manvis Publishing, a sister company of Timely, which was Marvel's Golden Age forerunner. Strictly, therefore, Ka-Zar is the oldest Marvel character still in use that they created for themselves. (There are, of course, a few older ones - mythological figures like Thor, and out-of-copyright characters such as Dracula have been incorporated into the Marvel Universe. But Marvel didn't create them.)

>The original Ka-Zar was a white jungle hero who fought bad guys in the Belgian Congo, and was therefore even more obviously a Tarzan clone than Lee and Kirby's Silver Age version. The Silver Age incarnation has the oddity of the Savage Land, which helps to distinguish him somewhat.

>Of course, this issue begs an obvious question: what the heck is the debut of Ka-Zar doing in X-Men? The opening scenes pretty much admit that he's not a mutant and the X-Men are just going down to investigate because they've been quiet lately. You'd have thought Ka-Zar would be more at home in a book like Fantastic Four, where random exploration is part of the premise.

>This is another of those perfectly competent issues which is remembered more for historical significance rather than for being particularly exceptional.

That's enough Marvel for today...
