Anyone who keeps repeating this idea of SCI as a safe, ultra-kiddie, toddler-level show has clearly just never watched it at this point.
SCI is the closest any show has gotten to early Adventure Time content-wise, just with a soft "comfy" aesthetic over the weird and sometimes creepy stuff.

You can definitely feel that the show is moving closer to the magic centric plot instead of slice of camper life. But even that is so cutesy and soft that it doesn't really change anything. You get glimpses of underlying darkness but it's really kept to a minimal level.
