Fuck this stupid trend of removing all the life and soul and color out of artwork in shitty rereleases in favor of some perverted realism.
fuck the fact that I have to look around and pay more, sometimes ridiculously more, to get out print editions that feature far better visuals.

Why even waste the time and money and effort just to ruin the artwork?

I also hate the "real life is brown" trend that has persisted over the past 15ish years.

I am also dissatisfied with the lack of wackiness in current superhero media as I feel it is a subject that only works if it has an inherent amount of wackiness.
Trying to make every superhero series into another day time TV cop drama show was a turn for the worse.

What I find mind boggling is that Bolland himself prefers the right.

What the ever living fuck.

he says it was his original intention, however the fuck that is.
I think it's really clear looking at the comparison that the left is obviously what was intended, the color itself is used to tell the story. It's an extension of the work itself.

The problem is that the old editions' neon coloring was only meant to work on shitty newsprint. But the new ones just have that generic computerized sheen that does nothing interesting with the material.

>only way to get original coloring is to either pay over a hundred bucks for an older edition or pay 60 to get an oversized hunk of shit that has both for some reason

My theory:

Normies don't appreciate good color theory and unique color compositions, so when something becomes more popular with general audiences, they have to be less experimental and more identifiable. IE: Joker is purple and green. Batman is blue and grey. Do not deviate!

So when Killing Joke becomes one of the most popular Batman stories and gets republished, it's basically being recolored for Normie's First Graphic Novel audience.

holy shit I just now noticed that the recolored version changed the bat symbol on his chest from the 80s yellow circle to the modern black bat, why on earth would you do this?

>comic is recoloured because "colouring methods of the past were limited"
>completely throw out original colour work as if colour artists couldn't make good creative decisions within those limitations
I hate this mindset.

I don't read comic very often and pretty new to American comics, called me normie or whatever, but the original one looks great. I mean the new one looks generic as fuck. Seriously, what were they thinking?

The coloring changes the tone and intent of the story. The original coloring reinforces the point that the Joker is trying to make; that the world is insane and all it takes is one bad day and anyone would be like him. The new coloring refutes the point that the Joker is trying to make; there is nothing inherently wrong with the world and the Joker simply trying to rationalize his behavior.

Right looks better desu. Im reading a comic. Not touring a van gogh gallery, thank you.

It's quite bad.
The worst is when they recolour Moebious though.

I think the only recolored comic I've ever liked was Miracleman

The only things I approve of here is making the reds sharper, and making his face a different color than the earth.

why are pencillers allowed to make the decision to change the coloring years later

someday there should be a colorist who redraws an entire comic

Yeah, these colors were never going to work on anything but shitty newsprint

>Yeah, these colors were never going to work on anything but shitty newsprint
which is why comics shifting away from newsprint to glossy paper was a huge mistake(well that and the fact that it drives prices up)

it's $40 for a first printing at worst unless you're autistic about CGC grade

Limitations BREED creativity but people on the comics industry is too far gone to even be creative.
