It was a different time, kinda miss it.
That episode was pretty funny
Yeah me too
Supposedly it was going to be paired with Bestest Friend but Nick balked at having two of the darkest episodes in the same half-hour. Still a great episode.
>Miss Bitters, I think a pencil is lodged in my brain! Can I go to the nurse?
>How FAR in your brain?
>...pretty far.
The early-mid 2000s was a great time. Even that scene DA cancer is legions better than what we have now.
Cartoons were still in that edgy gross humor stage.
This episode made me feel...weird
Honestly I was way more creeped out by the 2nd episode when the kid got his eyeballs ripped out.
OP here
God... I missed out on so much...
The show was cancelled before I even got into kindergarten, thus never really got to properly enjoy it when people still talked about it.
I think before now, I only ever saw around 2-4 episodes while there were still reruns
.Oh yeah, that one was fucked up too, but it didn't give me the same shock as this one did, like the whole "holy shit this actually got past censors and into a kid's show" kind of deal.
bro does anyone remember this scene?
really the one that creeped me out the most was the bologna episode
I don’t know. The one where Zim gets gangraped by hampeople was out there for a kids show as well.
Am I the only one who misses this sort of goth/emo/lol random era of the internet?
Today almost everyone gets in fights and is nothing but preppy people trynna be e-celebs, edgy incels who hate everything and everyone or overreacting people who call "problematic" absolutely everything even when it's harmless.
The pigeon just hanging out the entire time keeps it from being too morbid
I bet the execs added it in
Yeah, back when you were still kinda weird if you spent a lot of time doing internet shit
Why did the fags at nickleodeon never advertise this show or give it good time slots
I only knew about this show back in the day because someone told me about it, and after it had stopped having new episodes. All i did was watch cartoons and i didn't know about it, and i ended up loving it
I miss the ugandan knuckes era
I often rant about this with a friend. People didn't give a shit about others liking or creating "problematic" content. Ships and treatment of fictional characters wasn't treated as something so fucking serious or seen as a clear indication of the artists political/moral views. At worst people would insult the characters themselves or say a ship/portrayal wasn't valid because it wasn't canon or OOC or whatever. I remember those "anti ship" banners on dA. It's water compared to the witch hunts and call out posts we have on social media today.

Not even trying to be an nostalgia ag but I think Invader Zim had one of the best and intense soundtracks a cartoon has ever had. Dark Harvest especially
Good fucking times, when "pushing the envelope" was about being dark but legitimately creative. Things are so cutesy and toothless now that referencing mainstream politics is considered bold and "adult".
Even as a kid I enjoyed Dark Harvest as a ballsy episode. Bad Bad Rubber Piggy is the one that thoroughly unsettled me, though I eventually became very fond of it.
A fad that lasts less than a month could hardly be called an era.
I wonder what percentage of this profit actually went to Jhonen. If he wasn't profiting by it, you'd think he'd have said at least SOMETHING about Nick cashing in on his IP all these years. So I strongly suspect that he's been enjoying the sellout life while playing the misunderstood artist.
We laugh now, but the over abundance of Gir at Hot Topic is what got me back into Invader Zim. I had seen the show like twice in 2002 and then completely forgot about it until seeing Gir merch in 2006 or so when I was 10. When I was reminded, I instantly tried to find the show again and I’m glad I did.
Real question, would adding additional organs to your body benefit your health?
I don’t know, that might clog you up.
Ah, there's toothless user right on schedule.
>not bad bad rubber piggy
zim got away with a lot of shit
>:AMERICA LOVES GIR"
I always did like Jhonen's morbid edginess.
Wasn't that the one that a serial killer liked
Man, I would kill for a second heart.
The bigger question is how people were surviving with missing organs.
>BOO HOO, I WISH THINGS WERE STILL THE SAME
Accept change, incels.
I doubt he gets much if anything from merchandise. The "George Lucas" type contracts are not the norm
as far as reality goes hard to say i'm not a biologist. in fiction there are some examples like klingons having redundant organs and i think godzilla has a second brain near his tail to give it better control.
I had a dream where there was a Woody doll in my room with guys wrapped around his head because i saw that episode
I know that when someone receives a kidney transplant they don't actually lose the old kidney, the new one is just grafted in, so they actually have 3 in there. So it works in that case. I'm pretty sure Zim was just eating these organs, though.
I'm worried Florpus is going to suck because they can't do this kind of humor anymore. The same reason why all remakes of old shows suck nowadays. You are not allowed to offend anyone.
Have you seen Dib? Look at him, he’s all fucked up.
They let a guy who's main known creative work was about a schizophrenic homicidal maniac who killed people constantly make a cartoon and gave him a lot of control over it.
My friends have been dragging me to hot topics and Spencer’s and shit lately, I gotta say, I prefer this over the gigantic gallery of Rick and Morty they all got
Netflix has a little more leeway since their money comes directly through subscribers and not through panicky advertisers trying to control their own image. As long as you don't support Trump it's anything goes.
>netflix
Have you seen Rocko? The only "controversial" thing they did was making Bighead's son a trans. Literally nothing of the old show's charm remained.
I really hope they'll do better with Zim.
your pic filled me with a strange combination of dread and nostalgia
The 00's were the greatest. So much creativity came out of that time.
everyone in their grandma called it the worst decade ever (especially cartoonfags)
kinda proves the argument that nostalgiafags are arbitrary
Avatar and Invader Zim. What else.
When I was a kid I tried to argue that this show was funny to my parents.... EVERY time they agreed to watch... It was always this episode. Always.
It's possible to like the Rocko special without being an ass about it
>I’m sorry Gaz, but we can’t have our yearly family night out if all of us don’t have our insides in the INSIDE. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year...
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I always loved whenever Gaz got involved in Dib and Zim’s shenanigans
That happened in January 2018 user
Yep there's some serious rose tinted nostalgia glasses or people too young to remember.
Theres still some good things from this period.
Adult Swim originals.
Billy and Mandy
Justice League
Samurai jack
Clone Wars
Teen Titans
Code name Kids Next door
But anyone saying its some high point for creativity is fucking dumb. Flash animation experimenting and early youtube stuff is probably the most creativity there is.
AS originals weren't even all that good desu
there's a reason why there was back and forth between it and just filling the blocks with anime (most of which also wasn't all that good).
Except both movies were finished before Nickelodeon even put them on Netflix
Aqua Teen, Venture Bros and Metalocalypse are fucking great.
Man this makes me so sad, I remember always going to hot topic with my sister and friends and unironically loving it. Now when I go there I just see it as cringe consumerist shit pandering to manchildren lol
Same....
I still think they're cute. Just like I still think Pepe is cute.
