Martian Manhunter
Martian Manhunter
Did you really not pick up on the Justice League vibe?
Martian Manhunter. The Seven were based off the original JL
>WHY'D YOU KILL ME DOG JACK?
I had blocked his entire existence from my mind.
Black Noir still isn't Batman, especially since the comic points out that Tek-Knight wanted to be Justice League but wasn't good-enough for it.
True. But he fills his place as the dark brooder and was supplanted in favor of the story (the twist).
Good soldier.
He's literally a walking contingency plan.
He's Batman.
Also Payback is based off the Avengers. TekKnight is based off Iron Man with pieces of Batman added.
He isn't Batman, Black Noir has superhuman strength and no reliance on devices, everything that makes Batman.
Essentially Tek-Knight is Batman if he had Ironman suit, but more Batman than Dark:
>Related to homosexuality
>Underground batcave (behind book self) and has waterfall
>Batcar
>Alfred
>Robin (Laddio)
>Nightwing (Swinwing)
>Secret identify (wasn't the thing with Tony Stark that he didn't have one)
>Catwoman
Furthermore, Mind-Droid is Ironman.
also, Butcher points out he is one of the oldest superheroes, (Batman 39', Iron Man 63'). So only Ironman in him is his suit.
Tek = Batman
Noir = Batgod
>I'm not even here.
Mind Droid is an expy of Vision. Even the color scheme is similar
>vision needs a jetpack to fly
>walking contingency plan
So Doomsday.
Both Black Noir and Tek-Knight are Batman parodies (with the latter also being an Iron Man parody).
>part of the Seven, a Justice League parody
>one of the "big three" along with the Superman and Wonder Woman parodies
>flies the Noir-Plane
>his only line in 50 or so issues is "Good soldier", parodying Batman's dialogue in The Dark Knight Returns
>so dark his name is black twice
So I just finished reading The Boys and getting ready too start on the show, how bad do they fuck it up.
>Deep is white, only one who propositions Starlight
>No Terror
>No Jack, replaced by Invisible Guy
>Stillwell is a woman and gets murdered by Homelander
>Homelander and Butcher’s wife affair may have been consensual and wife is alive with her and Homelander’s kid, a young boy.
Fuck off no way.
as someone who just went back through the comic, it fucking sucks and the TV show is miles ahead in quality.
Wait are you saying that this parody character isn't a perfect 1:1 copy of the established character!?!@?!?!?!??!?!?!
>Stillwell is a woman and gets murdered by Homelander
This and the Butcher thing are probably the worst changes they made. Stillwell is a great figure in the comic in that he's so nonchalant about everything and even Homelander can't intimidate him because he knows Homelander can't do anything to him.
Making him into a woman that sleeps with HL and is scared of him completely misses their great dynamic
He's a Yea Forums crossboarder, he's probably never heard of him
I stopped watching halfway through the third episode, Starlight was obnoxious and Hughie didn't feel like Hughie, felt like I had already experienced the superior version of the story anyway.
>Stillwell is a woman and gets murdered by Homelander
Wow, Stillwell really got the shaft, didn't he. One of the most memorable characters in the comic, the genderbent adaption felt so different they should have just renamed her.
isnt that kind of redundant too with the Butcher/CIA bitch's thing?
also:
>brotherly dynamic between Hugh and Butcher is out
>Bucker is beta-fuck who only cares about his dead wife and thinks ALL superheroes bad, despite being friends with a Russian superhero in the comic
>Butcher no longer uses derogatory language
>Frenchie, M.M, The Female suck as well
I actually liked the show, but after reading the comic, I quickly came to hate it. Oblivious changes need to be made, and the comic isn't perfect, but I feel like the show didn't properly understand the comic.
Butcher in the comic DOES think all supes are bad despite being friends with Vas.
Butcher is willing to kill millions of people to end all superheroes. He even shoots Vas with a DU tipped RPG, he was going to murder Super Duper of all groups if it wasn't for Hughie.
Butcher is a genocidal lunatic, how did you miss that?
Especially since Wonder Woman is literally in OP's pic
also
>Compound V is now just a drug superheroes use to get high, meaning they have no origin
>this also means The Boys have no superpowers which is retarded to even think they're capable of fighting anyone
He's conceptually based on Martian Manhunter, but with Captain Marvel/Shazam's power word
And Mother’s Milk has a name that makes zero sense now
It's a netflix show.
You know goddamned well it was going to be fucking stupid.
Amazon
Well, they cut out 80% of Ennis's cringe tryhard dialogue and reworked most of the characters so they aren't complete trash or cliches, so it's got that going for it. Unfortunately, they also cut out most of the gore and some of the actually effective uses of edge. So far, I unironically think it's equal to and sometimes better than the source material. Butcher feels like a completely different character thought, although comic Butcher wasn't anything to write home about. My biggest gripe is that they cut out Butchers dog and the martian manhunter ripoff, since we'll never get the "why you kill me dog Jack?" scene.
Wolverine, its clearly Wolverine.
Wouldn't be shocked if both come in a single season to just set up that scene Seems they are trying to pace this differently
Wasn't his thing to transform using a special word like Shazam?
>>brotherly dynamic between Hugh and Butcher is out
This was the show's biggest crime.
Seth Rogen being a giant retard translates well into him making appealing shows to other mouthbreathers, I want to forget this piece of shit adaptation even exists.
Semiofftopic question:
Upto which issue of the comic or how much of the comic does the tv show The Boys adapt?
It adapts bits and pieces while largely telling its own story. Hughie's girlfriend dying, the Believe expo, the plane crash, and Annie's "initiation" into The Seven all happen, but the details are very different. Some characters such as The Legend and Vas don't appear, while others, like Stillwell, barely resemble their comic counterparts. Herogasm wasn't brought up, but the guys making the show have said they want to do it at some point.
Some changes include...
So I am safe to watch the show before finishing the comic? I'm only up to issue 11
You won't get spoiled on the biggest twists from the comic, no.
Comic had a shitty beginning but all that shittines was used to make the subsequently parts better.
If the show removes whole plots is going to be worse down the line.
>>Compound V is now just a drug superheroes use to get high, meaning they have no origin
That's not true. You haven't watched the show, you just heard someone who was being reactionary and ended up mistaken say that here and have been mindlessly repeating it.
I doubt that would even be a thing in a modern tv show. a white man being sexually dominant? Talk about offensive
Pretty sure they're keeping that for season 2 and Mr.Edgar played by Giancarlo Esposito
The director did interviews where they said the dog would have been to big an expense and added too much time to the shoot. He did say Terror would be in 1 episode for season 2. He also said that the streaming format meant they had to switch to 1 overarching plot about discovering V instead of a "villain of the episode" kind of format. Wouldn't surprise me if they do a whole Russia arc, or a whole tec knight/legend arc for season 2. Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) is the Vaught CEO and could pull off a lotta Stillwell's best comic scenes.
Black Noir has replace Batman in "The Big Three"
How cheap is this production is they can't afford having a dog on set? Fucking Lassie did it 50 years ago, but a series from 2019 can't show a dog in every episode?
Anyone got the picture of Tek knight saying 'if it's got a hole, I can fuck it'
Streaming series start usually with super low ass budgets and get more if the show is successful
>Black Noir still isn't Batman
>Is the character that doesn't look like much but is actually the most powerful
>Part of "The Big Three"
>Was manipulating everyone in the background this whole time
>His name is essentially "Black Black"
>His entire existence is to be a contingency plan
It's not nearly as on the nose as others but he's very clearly a Batman expy.
>no terror
I enjoyed the show but never read the comic. Guess I should stay away from the comic so I don't hate the show.
One thing I'm really surprised they took out was Vic the Veep. I know he was a Bush analogue but they could easily change him to a Trump one especially by having him connected to Vought
>reminding the audience that the emperor wears no clothes
Are you mad? We would STILL be hearing the backlash.
Not really, im just more surprised he isnt in especially with so much Trump shit in media
Nah, the show has a stronger start, but they already fucked up all the shit that made the comic's story decent later on.
I haven't actually read the comic but according to the co creator's AMA, they'll do Herogasm in season 3 if they get picked up for a season 3.
Hopefully they are working off a plan, and not making it up as they go.
Bright side is, the show is so popular now they might get the freedom to do it. On the down side, it might invite more oversight and meddling from higher ups.
Man they did Deep dirty in the show
>adults having an adult conversation
>Jack: "hurr durr, tits"
How much of a normie are you? It's based on the Martian Manhunter.
What was so bad about it, other than the last two episodes?
They could actually do the malchemical side plot, just substitute the Deep for Malchemical and have him abuse the special needs team for his own amusement.
>Deep is white
This actually bothered me a lot since the Deep being Black was actually relevant
Amazon shills are out in full force. Just goes to show even they know they fucked up
>Working off a plan
Nah, they're going all in on their milquetoast version. Enough normies apparently like it, so why fuck up a good thing?
I pity anyone who actually had hope for a faithful adaptation. You're either underage and simply too bluepilled to get how this shit works in the (((current year))). The pictures and voices that you made for yourselves while reading those books and comics are always going to be far more legitimate experiences than any adaptation Hollywood can make, especially these days.
Some of the sex stuff got me real diamond. Starlight's casting of course, but also the hookers doing blow in the kitchen because sex with supes destroys them.
But what aroused me the most was Malchemical demanding a blowjob from the Super Duper girls, like he's in a position of total power and he wants to force two young disabled girls to fellate him, one of which didn't even know what a bj was.
Any rec on comics with sick fuck, scum of the earth stuff like that in it?
qt forgetful goth girl in Super Duper was too pure for this world.
Read more Mark Millar and Garth Ennis
>>Homelander and Butcher’s wife affair may have been consensual and wife is alive with her and Homelander’s kid, a young boy.
So no black noir reveal then, great just great
They could re purpose the scene where Homelander shoot downs the plane as being Black Noir.
If it's based on the Justice League, who is Starlight supposed to be?
Someone like Stargirl maybe?
A younger, up and coming super heroine trying to hang with the big boys?
>(wasn't the thing with Tony Stark that he didn't have one)
no he used to have one, iron man "was stark's bodyguard"
>it fucking sucks and the TV show is miles ahead in quality
People are already calling you a shill but you're right man. Ennis is the master of great ideas with terrible execution.
It's sad that there are some things missing but I'll happily let them go for the overall better writing.
>So no black noir reveal then
If you already know the twist it's 100% obvious they are already setting that up.
There are a bunch of times were it's obviously black noir pretending to be homelander.
I heard they made Hughie American, is that true?
I feel like that scene is going to be a flashback. Terror showed up in that one flashback and Butcher still has his stuff, so I'm guessing Terror got killed by a supe.
>He isn't Batman, Black Noir has superhuman strength
Isn't everyone imbued with the V compound given some degree os superhuman strength?
And does Black Noir even display superhuman powers before the reveal? Its been a while since I gave it a read.
yes and it does nothing but make the show less annoying than it would have been otherwise.
Noone wants to hear this shit for the 8 hours that make a tv shot
youtube.com
Not really, but they do bring up that he should have died during 9/11 (I think he got hit by the planes wing). Though, I think the assumption was that they just got someone else to wear the costume.
Kyle Rayner. Lamplighter killing those grandkids is Hal's fall to Parallax
Any kind of Trump analogue would be so hack at this point. It's overdone.
He crashed a jet right in the hangar because he had no interest in learning to pilot it, since he can fly on his own and all. Walked away from the fiery crash.
>Secret identify (wasn't the thing with Tony Stark that he didn't have one)
Spotted the MCUck.
Well, I can't blame you. Nobody read Iron Man.
Tek Knight also had that brain tumor thing, which Ultimate IM had iirc.
Stillwell best aspect was Homelander's complete and utter bitchmode subservience to him though.
Stillwell was a badass because despite being a completely normal and depowered human being, he was the clearest aspect of the satire that the Boys otherwise bungles: even with superheroes, it's corporatism that rules the day.
He does a flip out of an exploding jet fighter and doesn't give half a shit.
He also restrains Hughie with a single hand and shoves his thumb up the ol' poop chute without visibly exerting himself.
Other than that and surviving 9/11, not really.
Apparently it'll be a whole episode, according to the AMA
The Female managed to somewhere injure him though
Name and appearance yes but his power set is triggered by a magic word a la Shazam
so?
Is Richard P. Clark a time traveler?
miss marvel?
He says a magic word that makes him invulnerable. It's Captain Marvel / Shazam. Although his looks are Martian Manhunters.
tek knight = tony stark
black noir = batman
Extremely so. Every single motivating factor of the crew is removed, except for Frenchies relation to Female (it is changed but the core is the same), and Hughie losing his girlfriend (which is brought up in every single scene with Starlight). Butcher comes off as a loser, the Boys come off as incompetent twats put into troubles way by Butcher,
Hughie is carrying the team almost at all times, the supes sexual deviances are almost entirely removed except for two mentions of Doc Peculiar's place, Stillwell is a random corporate whore, no Terror, no Love Sausage, no Legend, Butchers wife is alive, so is her kid with the Homelander (not with black noir), Homelander is actually a likeable douchebag (when he isn't letting planeloads of people falling), and The Deep is a loser who wants to fuck dolphins.
I mean it's hard to cram up 80+ issues into one single season, but they are rushing forwards a lot while also changing so much stuff that the ending already cannot be the same as in the comic.
The problem with that is that Trump isn't an idiot, he is just a bad politician (and all the worlds media outlets are pushing only bad news about him, so he looks way worse than he is). He is reasonably smart - smart enough to have a financial empire before getting into office.
Meanwhile Bush could barely put two sentences together and he got voted in by the military-industrial complex.
>Homelander is actually a likeable douchebag
That's what he was in the comic you fuckhead
The dude only started being crazy when Noir started doing shit like talking to him from two way mirrors and shit and actively trying to convince him that he was an insane rapist monster.
>And Mother’s Milk has a name that makes zero sense now
I just saw the AP show. I thought the show is good, but I'm planning on reading the comics for comparing and contrasting. And just for fun. Why is he called MM in the comics?
That guy was a retard who didn't watch the show, don't spoil shit for yourself
>"She was crap. The only fun in it was seeing Little Miss American Way with cum all over her principals."
>said Homelander to his good friend, a known pedophile
How low is your bar for likeable?
Not everyone is a one to one copy of their Marvel/DC counterpart. For example Black Noir was supposed to be The Seven's Batman since he's the "dark" character with "gritty" stories and villains and he had the "Noir plane/Batwing" but his powerset/personality were totally different.
his insecurities made him likeable, or if not that, an engaging enough character so much as i felt sorry for him when he realised he had been manipulated by black noir
Anyone else upset we never saw Jack have a go at anyone? Sure they said he was shit-tier and the only reason he's in the Seven is because he's one of the first Supes, but they also keep saying how invulnerable his magic word makes him. It'd have been nice to see him take a slap from the Homelander and live or something. But I guess that's not in his character.
Ok.
Reading issue #1 rn and so far, there's at least a few things I do like that are unique to both the show and the comics.
Examples I like better in the comics so far:
>Hughie's design
>The Female is already part of The Boys
>The Deep's design
Examples I like better in the show from just Season 1:
>Robin's death scene because of how gruesome it was
>Black Noir's design
>Butcher's design because he looks less like Punisher and a bit more unique with the mustache and beard.
I'm going to read more issues, but I'm liking the comic so far.
Butcher's supposed to be a fucking 'ard man, the type you would see driving transit vans round east london sneering at poofs and leering at their girlfreinds. It works against the overall theme of the comic.
The show doesn't get that, and Urban just looks unkempt and confused most of the time, it aint billy. Aint Billy at all mate.
>The show doesn't get that, and Urban just looks unkempt and confused most of the time, it aint billy. Aint Billy at all mate.
I guess. I will say I do like Butcher better in the comics because he feels more confident than he did in the show. Not to say that the show's version of Butcher isn't, but you feel it more in the comic.
>the type you would see driving transit vans round east london sneering at poofs and leering at their girlfreinds.
I mean they already changed the setting from Glasgow to US, so I guess they had to change his overall design from the comics.
I know Garth has written The Punisher comics before, but don't you think that the comic's design is a bit too similar looking to Punisher?
Im more curious about his kid.
It seems not all capes are assumed to be sterile, like Homelander.
>Examples I like better in the comics so far:
>>Hughie's design
>>The Female is already part of The Boys
>>The Deep's design
See I disagree and thing she show was better on all those respects.
Jack from Jupiter had a kid?
How? I think I missed that.
>See I disagree and thing she show was better on all those respects.
Why in your opinion? IMO, The Deep's design looks more unique because of his jacked appearance and huge helmet. And I like how Hughie looks more like an exhausted middle aged man rather than a scared younger looking man like in the show.
I think the comic had stronger plot and stories but the show made somenof the character moments better. Still Sitwell and everything regarding Butcher is shit in the show.
People liked Shaun of the Dead and Trainspotting so I doubt it.
Frenchie and Female is not so subtlt being pushed as a romance which is kind of weird to me.
>Homelander is actually a likeable douchebag
What? He's clearly a cold calculating evil monster that will definitely kill everyone on the planet at some point/ Comics homelander is kind of a big dummy/asshole
It will be lol if they re-brand The Deep as Jack from Jupiter because of the blowjob backlash and what he did to his head.
Unique doesn't mean better
As far as Hughie this design honestly fits his character much better imo.
Plot is more important in a written medium, characters are more important in something like television. I personally think this version of Butcher is miles better and this Stillwell just again, fits better.
I only remember Deep's race coming up a couple times
>the cheetah-pattern rags the costume designers try to put him in
>Homelander shouting "FUCKING NIGGER" on the plane
>getting annoyed whenever another member of the Seven uses a racial slur
>the funniest part of pic-related
And Lock Stock, and Snatch, and David Lister, etc.
>Unique doesn't mean better
>As far as Hughie this design honestly fits his character much better imo.
Ok, you gave me your reason for why you like Hughie's design in the show. But what specific reason do you like The Deep's design in the show better than the comic's design?
In the show, the equivalent character Transluscent did, according to Annie.
Stillwell was bad in the show, nothing memorable about her except the mommy kink shit but it was a waste of a character. The plot in the show is pretty all over the place, it's like the writer's are making shitbup as they go.
Because a random black dude in a diving helmet looks fucking retarded, how about that?
It makes no sense given the massive marketing department behind every aspect of the 7's lives
It's good, but literally forget everything from the comic, it's a completely different story.
Its just because they wanted him to look like comic aquaman.
Calling it, Butcher kills Homelander and they all live happily ever after.
>talking to him from two way mirrors
What? I remember him talking to himself in front of the mirror.
He was MM mixed with Shazam with an ET aesthetic
Power Girl
>Super Duper
Lady Folds "power" was just a really heavy menstrual flow right
Nah man, that was straight up Nior pretending to be his reflection, trying to push him off the deep end.
I don't mind the Stillwell change since they're clearly setting up the someone else in Vought that even Homelander fears but the Butcher change is irredeemable.
>No Terror
what? why? cant they train a bulldog to fuck on command?
>Glasgow to US
But the show doesn't really take place in Glasgow, only the first issue does, most of it takes place in New York City. Does the show take place in New York City or Los Angelos, I can't tell?
kek
I just finished the comic, was a pretty amazing read.
will the show have the balls to make butcher the final antagonist?
The show is alright, it's clear they gonna go different routes with the story, except with the whole superhero coup to take over the country they are heavily implying that will happen.
Besides that, i dunno, starlight seems to have a more active role, some scenes are toned down, some characters have more depth, for example the comic deep was a guy who said like 10 to 20 lines in the whole series while in the show he is more of a silly pathetic side character and they made A-train more sympathetic, so i doubt Hughie will kick his head off.
Also they gave the female a different backstory.
To be completely fair, The legend would be a hard sell, specially after stan lee just died.
If anything they would do a toned down legend if possible, so no little man fucking the shit out of not-wonderwoman
>erection
That's what you noticed Stillwell? Not the Klansman in the back?
That makes no sense, the Boys had hidden cameras set up behind the mirror which was why Frenchie was wondering if something major was gonna happen soon.
>The Deep in a Klan hood
Kills me every fucking time.
Read the whole comic, it's not that long when compared to other comics, and believe me, the show won't do half the shit they do in the comics, either for PC reasons or cause it would be really hard to translate it to live action.
He does its the best line of the whole thing
I'm not american so i didn't think Vic was actually inspired on someone.
In the comic he is full blown retarded, what president was he based on?
I want to protect and care for stool shadow
He's basically a mix between Dubya and Dan Quayle if Quayle was genuinely retarded.
Bush Jr.
youtube.com
Holy shit and i thought Vic was too unrealistic.
I think his appearance is partly based on Ted Kennedy as well.
Seriously dude just look at the wikiquotes article on Quayle too. Guy was literally incapable of not making himself look like an imbecile.
>I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix.
>If we do not succeed, then we run the risk of failure.
>The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. [on followup] No, not our nation's, but in World War II. I mean, we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century, but in this century's history.
So Yea Forums which one was your favorite knockoff superhero team.
i was fond of team titanic and the G-men, groundhawk was a fucking funny take on wolverine.
Will the show have the balls to do blatant copies of more obvious teams like Payback?
>>>The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. [on followup] No, not our nation's, but in World War II. I mean, we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century, but in this century's history.
>all those failures to course correct.
How can fiction even compete?
i too liked and felt bad for all the G-men teams just everything about that arc was just wrong. I wonder if the series will do that arc any justice. Btw is Silver Kincaid a Jean Grey knockoff?
if only there was some other white haired female X-Men member...
Yeah, down to the powers being similar to some extent, and she lobotomized storm.
I didn't feel bad for the adult G-Men since they collectively allowed the cycle of abuse to continue, but I felt a pang of empathy for these little bastards.
The ruined the entire point of the plot of hughie realizing Butcher had truly gone off the deep end
No terror removes half the nuance of pre-backstory butcher
No stillman and therefore no stillman love interest also removes the whole plot from vaught's POV
The point of the Boys was how much the compound and vaught have broken people. It broke homelander, it broke the boys, it broke stillman, even side characters were under ridiculous emotional turmoil. If you remove the key interactions between then you can't really appreciate the meaning of the story, specially the ending.
Sweetie he is clearly a troll, or a retard. Either way dont reply to him.
>Deep what can't I see through?
>Zinc, sir.
>Correct. And what is this box made of?
>...
>...
>Zinc, sir.
>C-correct again.
The acting and subtle details in the script are honestly gold
>the hot as fuck hillbilly girl eviscerated and beheaded
Never not be mad about this
>despite being friends with a Russian superhero in the comic
You didn't finish the book did you
>I wonder if the series will do that arc any justice
Have you seen the series? It wont happen.
Are you implying Butcher wasn't friends with anyone he ended up killing?
Hughie
>They're always going to have the exact same set of problems!
This always bugged me, because we clearly see there are people like the Deep and Starlight who aren't complete pieces of shit or actually well adjusted. Of course VA wouldn't spend the time trying to actually screen their heroes because that costs money.
Unironically sounds like Trump
Hepzibah?
Trump would never backtrack or correct himself like that. He could slip up and say the white house gassed jews and stubbornly go with it for the entire interview, until questioned about it directly, at which point he'll agree that it was the Nazi's that gassed jews like that's what he said all along.
