Why are there a lot of Season 10 Apologists in the Simpsons fanbase?
Like every time someone on a forum or something says "seasons 1-9 were the classics", oftentimes someone else will butt in with "Hey man, include 10 too." Is it merely because 10 is a nice round number?
>Inventor Homer >Talking pie >Homer Jay Simpson >the REAL comptroller >Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con >Las Vegas >Curfew episode >Super Bowl >MAX FUCKING POWER >Greenhorn >Simpsons Bible Stories >Le Grille >MENSA episode >The Simpsons are Going to Japan Honestly, I hadn't thought about it before but season 10 was rock-solid.
Carson Jackson
nah it just season 10 has some good ones some bad ones its pretty 50-50 so some lean more on the bad for there opinion and some lean more on the good.
Michael Bailey
Many of those were total shit though.
Kayden Anderson
Because most people only hate on the simpsons because it’s popular to do that online
Adam Ramirez
S8 was the last good one desu
Carson Kelly
S9 still had a lot of good episodes. Fans who hate s9 are just kneejerking because of Le Principal and Le Pauper.
Leo Cook
if your theory is that it's psychological, that 10 is a round number, I propose a competing psychological theory.
The reason that season 9 is considered the end of Good Simpsons is because of the episode "The Principal and the Pauper", a horrific episode that everyone can point to as the point at which the show's entire staff pissed on our heads and told us it's raining.
If we include season 10, which does indeed contain some rock-solid episodes, then we must forgive, or at least ignore, The Principal and the Pauper. And we are motivated to find a new episode to point to as the start of the downhill trend.
what's the new shark-jump episode, then?
Matthew Cook
From what I’ve seen, even 9 is stretching it. But I do consider 9 and 10 decent, transitional seasons before 11 comes and shits the bed.
Ayden Sanders
>season 30 >have used pretty much every other character for the dvd box covers >resort to a character who has not only been dead for 20 years, but isn’t even mentioned once in the entire season they’re on the cover of Who the fuck could they choose for season 31 to stoop even lower?
>what's the new shark-jump episode, then? Here's ones that I've seen from fans
Trash of the Titans The Trouble with Trillions When You Dish Upon a Star Homer Simpson in "Kidney Trouble" Sunday, Cruddy Sunday Monty Can't Buy Me Love Beyond Blunderdome Take My Wife, Sleaze Saddlesore Galactica Alone Again, Natura-diddily Bart to the Future Kill the Alligator and Run Homer vs. Dignity Large Marge Barting Over
For me the show died with the Screaming Caterpillar sexually attracted to fire. I think that was season 11.
Thomas James
It was 13
Jaxon Garcia
I'm just going to fucking say it.
The Great Money Caper is the best episode of The Simpsons.
Ethan Evans
Why do the only good Simpsons porn artists have such shitty fetishes? Alone Again, Natura-diddly was the death of the show, in my opinion. There were still a few hidden gems afterwards, but they were hidden in a pile of steaming dog shit. Also, if you don't like Large Marge you're unironically a low-test.
Bentley Baker
yes
if anything i can HANDLE simpsons until ABOUT season 14. then it wavers
Dominic Reed

Jaxson Brooks

>I can't believe everyone was in on it. >WILLY WASN'T! Solid gold.
You probably won't agree with this assessment, but I'd wager that until Season 12, the good-to-bad ratio of episodes is still larger than what came afterwards. 12 less so, perhaps, but starting from 13 there's way more skippable episodes, and 14 is just unsalvageable in many ways. A few gems here and there (mostly just scenes within episodes really) but nothing remarkable. However, yes, Season 12 had pretty good episodes. My personal selection:
Season 11: >Beyond Blunderdome >Brother's Little Helper >Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner? >Treehouse of Horror X >E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt) >Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder >Faith Off >The Mansion Family >Alone Again, Natura-Diddily >Pygmoelian >Days of Wine and D'oh'ses >Last Tap Dance in Springfield
Season 12:
>Skinner's Sense of Snow >HOMR >Pokey Mom >Day of the Jackanapes >New Kids on the Blecch >Hungry, Hungry Homer >Simpson Safari >Trilogy of Error >I'm Goin' to Praiseland >Simpsons Tall Tales
Matthew Wright
Which episode made you feel the show was irredeemable?
Eli Lee
The episode where Homer is absurdly bigoted towards the gay dude from the store and doesn't remotely change his mind at the end.
Benjamin Morgan
>Kill the Alligator and Run Good heaven, this is one of the worst episodes of the series, period.
Wyatt Ross
The Mansion Family is honestly one of my favorite episodes ever

that's what nostalgia does. kids who grew up with the bad seasons are gonna grow up and argue for it and then it becomes truth. I will bet you in 10-20 years, kids will argue for season 15. it's happening with spongebob too,
Leo Ramirez
Lisa goes Gaga. It was the first episode I saw after a very long time not watching the show, and holly fuck it was bad, it didn't even make me smile and was just about how Gaga was awesome.
Jacob Evans
No.
James Evans
Do they have to be? Can they please just...go away?

Zachary Hernandez
Nah.
Jeremiah Thompson
Here's the ones I disagree with.
Beyond blunderdome - another wacky Homer celebrity episode Hello gutter hello fadder - some good jokes (Not lenny), but the plot was scatterbrained here with Homer committing suicide and Maggie becoming a super-baby Alone again natura-diddily - Maude's death was handled poorly, with jerkass homer killing her. The tone in this episode was all off with the barrage of sex jokes, when it should've been more reserved/emotional. Faith off - again, scatterbrained plot
Other ones are debatable.
Brandon Sanchez
People only liked Large Marge because they fapped to. It was retarded Family guy humor that didn't tonally match the Simpsons.
Jaxon Rivera
Would move season 2 up to great tier, but other than that nice job
Henry Nelson
it sadly gave marge more character than she knew what to do with. so they got rid of it, her wonderful breasts.
could have kept them for the rest of the season at least...
Henry Anderson
>Who the fuck could they choose for season 31 to stoop even lower?
Frank Grimes, to really hammer the "zombie Simpsons" message across.
Ryan Lewis
That episode was fucking hilarious and progressive for its time, what chu talkin' bout Willace?
Jaxon Russell
Should add. Bye, Bye Nerdie would be 3/10 but it gets boosted some by some god-level Lauren MacMullan animation.
Wyatt Ward
When they killed Maude just to spite her VA for wanting a decent salary
Jonathan Rivera
>DVD commentary Mike Scully says "[Maggie Roswell] took some time off from the show for personal reasons" because Fox wouldn't let them say the real reason.
Ryan Parker
The amount of sociopathic things Homer does starting in season 10, right up to actual manslaughter, makes me think that Mike Scully is at the very least a huge douchebag and at the most has bodies in his basement
John Nguyen
Trash of the Titans won an Emmy...
Cooper Richardson
Problem is, he wanted the show to be more accessible to his kids and they could not into something like Sideshow Bob Roberts or Bart Sells His Soul, so he figured they'd rather see Homer go on wacky adventures and get injured 250x every episode.
Jose Reed
He also made his own wife and brother writers.
Nicholas Thomas
>progressive for its time No it wasn't? Get out of here.
Hunter Sanders
Yeah that. So basically he turned the show into a personal pet project for him and his dumbass relatives.
Anthony Watson
Mike Scully didn't go to Harvard like many of the writers, he had a blue collar upbringing in New England and moved to LA in his 20s where he worked shitty wagecuck jobs and worked as a writer for Yakov Smirnoff and eventually got hired by Dave Mirkin on the Simpsons. So he had a more humble background than someone like Al Jean and it probably explains his plebian tastes and love of crude humor.
Oliver Clark
the tony hawk episode or the bart rapping episode but lisa goes gaga gets a special mention for being the worst offender.
Ayden Hernandez
That episode where Rachel Maddow guest starred.
Jayden King

Joseph Sanders
>The amount of sociopathic things Homer does starting in season 10
It started in season 5.
Bentley Collins
And guess what parties joined the writing staff in Season 5?
Lucas Evans
Most of those episodes were fucking dogshit mate
Carter Flores
Season 9 was in no way part of the "classics"
James Edwards
Probably the same reason there's a lot of Seasons 4-9 apologists in the SpongeBob fandom. People that grew up are more biased for it.
Wyatt Gutierrez
“Fans” who hate any of it are doing that.
Michael Stewart
Some people watched Simpson because it was a cartoon, not because it was a sitcom
Jason Jenkins
I put the end of classic simpsons at s12 because that's as far as I'd expect people to remember the episodes. Katy Perry did some yvan eht nioj reference way after the fact, don't think Angry Dad would have worked.
Jack Johnson
>Cream of the Crop >Seasons 4,5,6 WACKY HIJINX
Jason Sullivan
Season 5 is Scully Done Right. A shitton of wackiness and almost non existant focus on emotion, just like the Scully seasons, but the characters remain likable and the jokes are so witty everything works.
Luke Green
An user of culture. S2 is superb.
Lincoln Turner
Real talk, I prefer the best of S11/S12 to S10. It feels like Scully was mastering his own brand of fast paced, wacky humor by then. S10 has this awkward vibe of trying to marry the Simpsons of old with Scully's style and in several episodes it doesn't fully work. Like I recall laughing much harder at the best of 11 and 12 than anything from 10.
Daniel Martin
I watched season 10 exactly once. It was unfunny and all the plots were nonsense that broke established characterisation and setting.
John Cruz
simmer down chucklehead
Christopher Bell
Honestly I think the show was okay until 12.
Colton Hill

Mansion Family is unironically the last real Simpsons episode. It's so good.
Landon Wilson

Benjamin Fisher
Morons who can’t see how good Principal and the Pauper is were never true fans in the first place.
Jaxon Green
Season 2 was pretty dull tho, it has like 3 or 4 good episodes but the rest was forgettable
Jordan Hughes
don't you hate it when you see the same picture in every fucking thread
Simpson's Safari, pure garbage from the moment they land in Africa. There were many bad episodes before, but I found this one so offensively unfunny I could no longer defend the Simpsons from that point on.
Leo Phillips
You must have been watching your own ass because that does not describe this show.
Hunter Gutierrez

Yea Forums truly is dead
Logan Martinez
Season 10 was a definite tone shift, those episodes are very funny, but they feel loose, there is a kind of surrealism to them that makes them feel incongrous to the earlier material, so if you're a fan of the older material I'd understand why you'd make that distinction.
I think that's the same reason some people don't include season 1, but for the opposite reason, season 1 is very grounded and sentimental, and while funny doesn't deliver the same laughs as what came later.
Michael Williams
>S10 has this awkward vibe of trying to marry the Simpsons of old with Scully's style and in several episodes it doesn't fully work. Yeah I know what you mean, although I personally find that "transitional" vibe rather fascinating for its historical value in the show.
Some s10 episodes feel "late classic"/season 9-ish (Lard of the dance, Wizard of evergreen terrace, Bart the mother, THOH IX, Wild barts can't be broken, Lisa gets an a, Mayored to the mob, Homer to the max, 30 minutes over tokyo) while other s10 episodes feel more "early modern"/season 11-ish (Dish upon a star, Kidney trouble, Sunday cruddy sunday, Make room for lisa, Monty can't buy me love).
John Green
sneed
Bentley Myers
Season 9 still had a lot of good episodes, people mostly dismiss it because of Le Principle and le pauper, and most of the episodes, even the Scully ones (Cartridge family, This little wiggy, Das bus, King of the hill), still had the classic era vibe.
Season 9's not even a debatable classic like some say (that's season 10). Season 9 is, imo, a stone cold classic.
Jayden Fisher
9 was still partially Oakley & Weinstein episodes. The worst stuff in there are mainly Scully ones.
David Anderson
Yeah it was pretty awful
Ryan Nguyen
ok, you listed the bad episodes now tell us what the good ones where
Elijah Morgan
More like Yea Forums is alive and Yea Forums is dead after they caught the guy who's been samefagging sneed this whole time and banned him

I think Prince and the Pauper is more gimmicky than bad. Or well, it was outdone horribly by Lisa Goes Gaga. Fuck that.
Austin Ross
But even most of the Scully s9 episodes were good
Cooper Moore
Susprisingly, I did posted Sneed the other day in a Rocko thread. My post got deleted but all tranny bitching reached bump limit, the thread died with like 600+ posts.
How is this stooping low? He’s part of the shows library. This isn’t a Madden game
Austin Hughes
>Simpson's Safari, pure garbage from the moment they land in Africa I know, I hated the episode. I don't know why I included it in my list above, I must've forgotten to remove it while going through the list of episodes.
Kayden Morgan
What does everyone think of the episode where we find out what happened to Smithers' father? What season was that?
Jackson Miller
>10 was rock-solid.
No, just no.
Blake Baker
Season 13 is where it really starts to go to shit. I think the last episode I watched live and called it quits was when Bart befriended the old western movie star.
Hudson Anderson
When they go to Brazil or when they meet Tony hawk. I remember those killing my interest on the show.
Connor Powell
Homer getting raped by a panda

On forums people will often say that the classic era ended/decline began at season 10, but then "race to the bottom" fans frequently show up and say something like "No, the show was already a wretched shitfest by season 7", which boggles my mind.

He didn't. He was still a jackass. >Also kys if you don't watch the series. Say what? I'm currently doing the unthinkable, rewatching Season 15. I actually hate this one because Homer doesn't learn a thing either.

I believe Al Jean wanted to undo some of the damage caused by Mike Scully, but he didn't have good writers anymore and most of what he did have were people influenced by Scully.
Jason Diaz
I never liked 10 that much desu.
Adrian Barnes
Season 9 is where Simpsons had a constant stream of bad episodes. Halfway through the season the episodes just turn meh. >Marge sells homes >Annoying Xmas episode >Singing Clipshow >Carnys >Insurance Fraud >That Ralph Episode >King of the Hill >nudist episode >Lisa Episode
Half of season 9 is either bad or meh. While the rest either have great jokes or overall better quality.
I know, but that one is an Al Jean episode. He has demonstrated over his long reign that the number of episodes is more important than the quality.
Brody Green
I hate s. 7-8 more than any other seasons. Suddenly we get these weird drama-focused episodes that just feel so out of place. Lisa falling in love with Nelson, Flanders has a breakdown, Milhouse parents gets divorced, Mr. Burns has a son etc...

Does anyone else feel like there was a stretch, like s15-19, where the show wasn't funny but still a decent way to kill time? Grandpa summer house stack of comics type of feel.
Oliver Collins
Yep. When Spongebob seasons 4-5 came out they were widely considered abominations on fan forums. But now zoomers on Twitter are arguing that s4-5 are actually good and better than season 1.

Ryder Phillips
I always say season 15 is the point of no return - there are no redeemable episodes beyond that.
