ITT: Cartoons that were more popular outside their country of origin
ITT: Cartoons that were more popular outside their country of origin
seriously this shit and the kung fu magoo both were abominations against nature
Not that He-Man wasn't successful on burgerland but nowadays it's remembered as the poster boy of the dark age of animation while Latin America remember it fondly as a cult series. Same with Thundercats. I think it was the dub
Don't know if this counts as being more "popular" but the 90s Spider-man would run on Fox Kids, then Jetix, then Disney XD non stop until the fucking 2010s in Sweden, never once leaving the air, no other spidey cartoon aired until Ultimate Spider-Man and then Marvels Spider-man
how popular was dinosaurs in america?
because it was really popular in germany when I grew up
I think they were a fad briefly but attention quickly died out.
Why did people even like this show
So Rimba Racer is from Malaysia, but where is it actually popular?
Of course Johnny Bravo would be popular in India: a macho womanizer who loves partying and being the center of attention and never gets in trouble; in a country where women being molested on a train is a common thing, I’m not surprised this gross show was seen as iconic.
Not a western cartoon per se, but pic related was produced along side the dubbing studio Nirvana to appeal more towards westerners and was apparently unloved in Japan, but the rest of the world was obbsesed.
Doesn't Beyblade and Bakugan also continue to exist because of western companies? Though from what I remember Bakugan was always a Canadian co-production with Japan.
>who loves partying
>never gets in trouble
Did we watch the same Johnny Bravo? His favorite activities were sitting on the couch and watching TV for 80 hours straight and he constantly gets beaten up for everything he does. Sometimes he gets punished for misunderstandings that weren't his fault.
>gross show
>never gets in trouble
Lol have you ever watched it
The irony is that nobody knows about Danger Mouse in my country, but this was really popular over there in the 90s.
Apparently pic related is doing great overseas. At least that's what Yea Forums tells me, I have no idea where people go to find overseas TV ratings.
relatable (as any sitcom). although it was a generic sitcom, it had creative ideas here and there and an overall unique atmosphere through the style.
But it was probably the baby.
Also was it a black sitcom in disguise? It kinda felt like family matters but with dinosaurs. Especially the children felt really black.
Its IMDb rating from non-US viewers is higher than its US rating. And judging from what I've seen, most people from my country (Hungary) fucking revere this show and attack those who post something negative about it.
For what it's worth, the brand of humor that consists of forced, edgy, offensive shit and lots of swearing is really popular here.
Maybe because the immediate theme was vampires and horror stuff? Danger Mouse was just much more British I guess and didn't have an immediate hook.
Jim Henson creature designs in a weekly format aimed for an older family audiance, shit was a trip to look at even now.
What the overseas mean? Europe? Japan?
Wacky Races was stupidly popular in Japan.
So stupidly popular that Gundam made a SD parody basically ripping it off
youtube.com
that and I'm pretty fucking sure that a lot of Tatsunoko characters are ripped straight from Wacky Races
I really can’t get a hold on Japan’s tastes
They like Wacky Races but also like Gatcha?
Doesn't the dub voice actor hate the character? For overshadowing his career or something.
They also liked South Park and King of the Hill. You can never tell what kind of western media some circles there will latch on to.
If that user was mexican as I suspect, then yes. El Santo did fought a ton of horror foes such as Dracula after all.
Wacky Races inspired Mario Kart, which is good enough in my book.
Fuck, I meant to reply to regarding the vampires and horror stuff.
I'm pretty sure Indians liked Jonhy Bravo because they thought it was a satire of americans in general.
Surprised this didn't get posted yet.
why? I like both movies
Same. Legit one of if not the biggest hit when it comes to east Asia for CN.
Saint seiya/ Knights of the Zodiac is very loved in Latin America. it failed to make it big in the USA, but in Lat-am. it's insanely popular.
Walked into a chinese shop (miniso) in shanghai recently and there was a shitload of WBB merchandise.
I swear everybody that actually watches the loud house is from a spanish speaking country. That spanish dub might as well be the only one
and LatAm, Europe and Japan are now united in hating the Netflix version
Regular Show was/is really popular in Latin America.
Parts of Yea Forums.
The dungeon and dragons show is beloved in south america
As far as I know mexicans weren't into it at first because they changed the voice actors, then started to truly hate it after seeing it. For everyone that isn't a kid it probably took like one episode to realize it's extremely amateurish.
Anywhere that isn't America.
Midnight Patrol was renamed Potsworth & Co. in the UK and was much more popular there, surviving on reruns for years despite only having 13 episodes.
MEXICO WHY
Top Cat's attitude is quite... latino, so to speak. It just makes sense.
Good dub.
It started a trend of taking liberties with the translation that is essentially changed characters with a more latino-form of speaking.
For example, Choo-Choo speaks with a yucatecan accent.
Mexico loved it. Is still fondly remembered by the millennial generation.
The Big O
The poor low life people try to use their wits to survive on the world and having fun
the costumes were great.
Only keeps being made because they’re so popular overseas
To be fair, America likes a shit ton of their animes that they never pay a second glance at.
>girl who actually had an intrest in him was a werewolf who also transformed into a middle age man
Johnny can't catch a break
After TBBT American Dad is pretty much the most aired show on german tv, though that doesn't automatically mean everyone is watching it, but at least it's more popular than FG
I'm not sure if about Bakugan, but Hasbro does Beyblade internationally, while Takara Tomy handles it on Japan.
>Also was it a black sitcom in disguise? It kinda felt like family matters but with dinosaurs. Especially the children felt really black.
They took it from the dad
youtube.com
The latino dub changed Pixie and Dixie completely and it was for the best. Probably the VAs were so bored with the material that they started to improvise
it's more popular on Yea Forums than in its mother country
Fujo circles have also kept buying the merch, specially Shu Kurenai's merch. That's why they even pretend to care keeping this shit alive.
I'm still waiting for a really good Wacky Races racing game.
Wacky Races inspired an absolutely kino episode from Space Dandy. Most probably Watanabe loved the show in his childhood
well it was popular here in the states but it was on the decline around carnage reveal
Wacky Races has a lot of references in anime. I had no idea Japan loved it so much.
