I'm getting sick of retards claiming Netflix "ruined" Rocko. This special has been sitting for so long that it was originally supposed to air in Spring of 2018 on Nickelodeon. All Netflix did was buy the rights and slapped "A Netflix Original" on it like a month before release.
Nickelodeon didn't even have the balls to air it so you know they didn't choose the story. You gotta take your beef with Joe Murray.
cross boarding retards have really been making themselves transparent with this bullshit like it's not even funny anymore, i'd expect this level of knowledge from a facebook kid screaming at a show runner to release more episodes. not people who "supposedly" are regularly active on Yea Forums
Charles Hill
I mean in the original cartoon there’s an episode where the cow goes to fucking hell and the turtle fucks the cat That’s why the tranny thing doesn’t surprise me, Rocko ALWAYS was a weird disgusting show I remember the hell episode was banned from Latin America for trying to fuck with religion
Gavin Lopez
>Nickelodeon didn't even have the balls to air it They probably weren't satisfied with how it turned out and expected something different.
Doesn't Netflix do this a lot? Buy films that other studios don't want when they see how it's finished and make them original?
Andrew Gray
It’s almost funny because most of the angry posts REEEing over the trans frog sound like they could have been written by bored housewives
Alexander Ward
Nick didn’t want to air the Rocko/Zim specials because TJM didn’t bring in the ratings that they’d hoped and the new management at Viacom is less interested in reboots/revivals
Camden Martinez
What was there gameplan for this anyways? I mean, they weren't intending to launch these revivals into full blown ones, just one offs (and Zim is the only one that really would have potential, Arnold and Rocko are way too much products of their time that kids these days wouldn't be interested in). These are made for the older audience (that's mostly contained to streaming), but what were they planning to do with that? Somehow get adults to start watching Nick again? They don't have the even-remotely mature-er cartoons these days to entertain them with, and they won't care about the boomer nick at nite shit if they even do that anymore.
So what exactly did they expect to get out of this?
They probably were hoping today's kids would latch on to these old properties because it's less work and less risky than creating something entirely new (probably also less expensive to test the waters with a special instead of a first season of a new show). This is why Rugrats is also getting revived and there's two upcoming spin-offs based on SpongeBob and Loud House. They'd consider an adult audience just a bonus.
Nolan Cox
They turned one of the characters into a tranny, so what did you expect
Mason Young
I watched it and it was really accurate in parodying millennial life. The ending summed it up well here, Change is coming and we can be greatful for the lessons of the past but clinging to the past or rushing to change isnt viable on either side.
Carson Thompson
yes and no, sometimes they want to make changes themselves because they have their own core code of ethics they stick too.
Brayden Murphy
We expected a heartfelt send off to a beloved part of our childhoods. Instead we got more of the propaganda being shoved down our throats at every turn.
Jonathan Butler
no I dont think so. I think its trying to effect change to the 90s kids who are in their late 20s through late 30s. I think it did a good job.
Aaron Collins
i think anons on Yea Forums generally expect people to know the most basic bitch things about production before opening there maw and squawking like there word is law, strange i know.
>he browses one board like it's his safe space Fucking yikes bro
Josiah Johnson
What the fuck do you mean and how does that help Nick financially?
Charles Evans
>twitter speak fuck off and die
Hunter Price
Yeah ok Fucking cringe
Cameron Flores
>Twitter opinions You first
Ryan Morales
Now that we know that the frog is a tranny, will rocko also dab and play fortnite?
Christian Cooper
Watch it and see, you lazy sack of shit.
And no, not having a Netflix sub or no torrents is not an excuse.
Mason Rivera
he is pandering to more than one audiences and not making it so over bearing with the change that is going on. Rebooting doesnt always work and its risky, continuing is safer and you make money on nostalgia then you pander to the progressives people by putting their message in there but not IN YOU FACE the previous shows were pushing.
Thomas Davis
also it makes Nickelodeon positive in the eyes of progressives and nostalgia critics that it makes good PR
John Martinez
cringe, this is not your safe space retard
Jose Hall
This, I actually remember the crazy stuff they put out on this
Anthony Martin
one can only hope
Hunter Ortiz
>he doesnt know
Jace Kelly
I like how the special really obviously telegraphs the reactionary criticism against itself. It was pretty much a perfect jab at the whole notion of making a 90s cartoon reboot special, and how audiences would react to it.
Elijah Sanders
is the special good
Leo Sullivan
Yeah, in a very meta way. It is an honest and intentional jab at itself, and fans, and how society's changing. You might be disappointed if you just wanted a bunch of slapstick, though that's certainly a part of it.
Nathaniel Jenkins
>The hell episode was banned in latino America Which Country? I remember they played it a lot where I live To the point "Duraznito" was kind of a childhood meme among my friends.
Jaxon Clark
I don’t care who made that bullshit, it’s still bullshit
People want nostalgia for a reason, because we live in a degenerate hellscape and are desperate to return to better times. Deliberately shoving 2019 misery into classic stuff comes off as spiteful
It is until they shove in the tranny stuff. It’s so random and doesn’t fit at all.
Camden Russell
Yeah, the writing and humor is on par with the old show, and took on the concept of revivals and change as well as it could for such a short special
Owen Adams
>wants every cartoon, comic, and video game to be a safe space from the mean gays pottery
Matthew Hughes
hey arnold has been greenlit for a sixth season dude!
Ethan Foster
did you watch it? your point was rebutted by the episode itself you dumb frog. tranny frog was fine and keeping the deep voice was both funny jab at trans and a respectful way to present the idea. a cartoon about viewing the pop culture climate of the now could not get away without the massive topic that is trans people and this has done it better than any other cartoon i've seen while still having a good sense of humor about it.
Jayden Perez
speak for yourself. i keep the best of the past and the best of the present. i live in the winscent... the preswin... i live in an ever present of fucking win that surrounds me like bitches hover around spider-man.
Luke Nguyen
Yes he does u fucking tranny I'm sick of you faggots ruining and this site fuck off
Juan Powell
everybody but rocko was ecstatically happy. seems like a send off to me.
Elijah Cook
>Nickelodeon didn't even have the balls to air it
More like even they knew it was terrible.
Considering the Jungle Movie, which was actually a pretty damn good finale and was something people that grew up in the 90s were actually clamoring for, pulled relatively meager ratings... then how would a glorified 45 minute long Boomer Comic featuring RML characters* (* Mostly just Rocko and Bighead) have done?
Christopher Flores
Where do you see the "rushing to change isn't viable" moral? I thought it was pretty cut clear that it was saying one should embrace change even if they feel like an annoyance for doing so.
Luke Perez
Mostly for Arnold, was closure for the fans and the creator after the cliffhanger ending.
Angel Ortiz
My favorite part was watching them toss the assembly-line row of cheap laborers, actually represented with worms, out the window just missing the culturally ambiguous pillows.
And just like in the real world, that cogent message, dare I say potential call-to-arms was completely overshadowed by yipping histrionics re: gender.
>Nickelodeon didn't even have the balls to air it Nickelodeon gave up Pinky Malinky, Rocko Movie, Invader ZIM Movie, and Glitch Techs over to Netflix. Basically every fucking new thing they had in production except for that Unikitty rip-off they threw over to Netflix for some reason.
Alexander Garcia
>Glitch Techs over to Netflix Unsubstantiated rumor.
Levi Robinson
Welp, fuck me, I thought that was confirmed by an animator on the show or something. Nvm on that one.
I looked around a bit, and apparently Netflix is going to acquire Nickelodeon's Loud House +TMNT movie? I knew the Avatar remake show was going to be on Netflix, didn't know it was Nickelodeon making it.
The first 28 minutes are good, then the tranny shit starts and has nothing to do with the story for the next 15 minutes. I'm honestly going to do a fan-edit with the tranny shit removed and I guarantee it will be better than the original.
Josiah Ward
>we
who is “we”, i personally dont care that a character became trans there are hundreds of crazier storylines in the whole series. But a trans plot is where “we” draw the line?
Really makes you think...
Samuel Price
I foresee Nick becoming a brand first and foremost within the next decade. The channel will still exist, but won't be their primary focus anymore. They'll mainly just middle man shows for streaming services and slap their logo on it.
Jace Baker
Yike
Nathaniel Cox
>the turtle fucks the cat He... does?
Lucas Lee
So who will be gay/tranny in the Camp Lazlo reboot?
Austin Johnson
Got a feeling Nick decided not to air it less because of the transsexual stuff and more because they didn't want to air a special shitting on the entire idea of people wanting to see a show they liked twenty years ago being brought back for 46 minutes straight.
Julian Bennett
Heffer goes to Hell episode was never banned in Latinamerica though? At least in Mexico, I remember seeing it a lot on TV alongside Leap Frogs.
Nolan Smith
>La Vida Moderna de Duraznito
Ethan Price
Towards the end of the show, they were babies in the original show in the later seasons
The entire plot was dedicated to pointing out how dumb you are.
Chase Morgan
>The ones with Heffer's genes are successful doctors. >the one with Filburt's genes are dweebs Amazing.
Jonathan Rogers
So did Heffer fuck Filbert or his wife?
Brody Lopez
they ruined it by airing it all that time we were like "why the fuck is the studio fucking them, not airing it?" and now we know. nick turns out to be heroes. heroes for giving original creators a chance to make more of the good stuff that got them where they are, and heroes for rejecting it when they make something shit and unacceptable.
Adam Martin
He only sat on the egg, but his ass genes were absorbed onto the egg.
Ryan Perry
i hated this special why the fuck was there no OH BABY OH BABY i waited 20 years for oh baby oh baby and no oh baby oh baby
Angel Diaz
>weve gotten to a point where Yea Forums is so full of tumblr faggots that it's weird if you dont support trannies in your cartoons Lol
Henry Morgan
>I just consume memes without thinking for myself or doing even the most basic research and then demand people suck my dick, aren't i epic and cool! so much for facts and logic
Charles Thompson
I think he farted on one of them.
Tyler Miller
Anyone got a torrent for this?
Logan Sullivan
Joseph David Murray ruined his own show but Netflix was the only company pozzed enough to give him a platform to ruin it with.
It was a science joke about frogs changing gender you DUMMIES.
Alexander Turner
>pozzed
Back to Redit
>science Ssssh, you'll offend the Christians.
Ryan Nelson
It wasn't because of the content of the special.
It was all simply because The Jungle Movie underperformed in views because of course you'd have elss viewership for a show you haven't bothered to re-aair in years.
Pretty much. That is literally (no joke) Rocko's plotline in the movie. He's upset about a remake of a show. Then the tranny stuff comes in and the whole thing is about embracing change and fuck the past.
It's literally a meta plot shitting on Nostalgia as a concept and Tradition/Conservatism as a concept.
I feel like someone of the rare opinion that transfrog was good for the special, and that the special's problem was the runtime was too long for its own good, but as fucking always people on both sides blow the trans bullshit out of proportion?
So basically Mr. Bighead is literally DRUMPF? >bankrupted his company >racist against LGBTBBQ people and foreigners >is on the verge of having his whole house come crumbling down (impeachment)
>Trans rights are human rights. Ah, okay. So they're just a repeat of regular human rights. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Phew, and here I thought they would try to add something stupid.
Ian Powell
Yeah I liked it. I’m actually impressed by the balls they had to add the transsexual stuff
Hunter Perez
I hate them putting chemicals in the water that turn the freaking frogs trans!
The gameplan is to milk Spongebob till it finally crashes in the ratings and then cancelled.
Connor Baker
Here's my take, RML has always been a comedic commentary on how weird people and aspects of modern living can be, someone getting a sex change is actually pretty fitting for this series My problem is that characters who have been away for decades and have been spending most of the special reacting to all the weird shit of the 2010's just fucking automatically accept it without a second thought because no one's allowed to make any kind of jokes about trannies lest they fucking join the 40%
Jordan Nelson
Cartoon logic:
Jordan Harris
My problem is that characters who have been away for decades and have been spending most of the special reacting to all the weird shit of the 2010's just fucking automatically accept it without a second thought. relax they have been 20 years in space without oxygen and it's a fucking silly cartoon. who even cares about logic
Brayden Gray
>who is 'we' REEEEEEEE Well, I agree with you.
Ryder Turner
this board is called Yea Forumsmblr for a reason
Jack Gutierrez
>I'm getting sick of retards claiming Netflix "ruined" Rocko. > it was originally supposed to air in Spring of 2018 oh no, no. You're mistaken. They waited so much that they killed off the latin american voice actor of rocko for everyone down here on latin america. Eat shit and die, you retarded fucking faggot. They didn't just ruined rocko, they killed off someone.
Wyatt Sanders
You guys can't blame trannies for trying to survive. Since they willingly sterilize themselves all they can do is infect children's media in order to influence children to transition.
Trannies aren't like humans, their life span is only 30-45 years so they need to work fast before they kill themselves.
The mistake you're making is thinking the people bitching about Static Cling actually watched the original series. They're just right wing snowflakes looking for an excuse to get triggered and complain.
Dylan Adams
>expected something different. Do you really think Nickelodeon or other networks don't read the script before production even begins?
Evan Jenkins
Leave Yea Forums if you don't like 4channers :^y
Jacob Wood
your plebeian ass understanding of the subject of the board doesn't grant you a magic shield from criticism just because you screamed based and redpilled enough times user. anons on /tg/ also have absolutely every right to call out plebeian shit posters that contribute nothing ,same with Yea Forums and many other boards, get over yourself.
Thats exactly what nu star wars said. And look how that turned out. So many screetching kill the past and accept change while butchering our favorite media like they know its garbage and that we just don't like change.
Jace Reed
This and anyone who disagree can go suck Ralph's feminine penis. To me, the tranny part is just a bigger problem of the forced politics in cartoons. What if Ralph was a Trump supporter? What if he was a gun activist? Would "nu-fans" still be happy with the special?
Owen Jenkins
>So many screetching kill the past By idiots who completely missed the point?
Lincoln White
>forced politics haha
Jace Sanders
>What if Ralph was a Trump supporter? What if he was a gun activist? then it would of not of aired at all
Depressing seeing how many fans doing damage control in the comments. Don't blame pan for having to mention it and just trying to get it done as quick as possible.
Henry Butler
>Netflix But it really wasn't Netflix fault. The original show had a high level of satire. It was totally expected
Kevin Bell
>a too many starbucks joke WHAT YEAR IS IT
Brayden Rogers
Shut the fuck up, tranny. I have no nostalgia for this one and even I can see how badly they fucked up.
Thomas Fisher
That's a moral, not a joke. And as a moral, it's a terrible one. If the past wasn't better and we should just embrace change, then what about the 2016 election? That was a helluva change, right? Change is good and we should just accept new things, so clearly Trump becoming president is a good thing and the Democrats deserved to fall out of power. We should hold on to nothing and be shallow, vapid cunts whose beliefs align with whatever the latest fad is.
I, for one, want to return to a time when people told actual jokes.
Julian Evans
Are you having a stroke?
Nolan Stewart
Is everyone gonna ignore that there was atleast one joke related to her being trans, when they were in the desert about to take off to make the special. There was humor it was just short and lighthearted
Jaxson Carter
to keep the license refreshed to sell merch. places like spencers are full of merch for shit like rocko no lie.
Leo Gonzalez
I saw a rocko designed shirt I wanted to get there but I had no money at the time plus I was skeptical that the show was going to be respected. I have made the right decision not to get it.
Joseph Moore
>moral is "accept change" >this bitch makes money off fucking nostalgia
She changed The Fatheads by adding a baby though that was part of the moral
Ian Phillips
>sounds like a man >a respectful way to present the idea
Also, in case you haven't noticed, the left doesn't like their pet causes being joked about at all. The second all these reviewers stop patting themselves on the back, they're going to dogpile on this shit for being "transphobic".
I can't wait for that to happen. I can see the headlines now " "Rachel" the frog is a stunning move to fight back transphobia, but there still isn't enough representation in the voice acting community"
Easton Phillips
It came out like 2 hours ago
Jayden Foster
>>moral is "accept change / this bitch makes money off fucking nostalgia
Ah, you didn't get it , uh? Nostalgia and Change aren't direct correlatives to each other and both can orbit in armony. It's ok to feel nostalgia, but that doesn't mean we should ignore change. Rocko himself is victim of this, blinded by nostalgia and ignoring change, even than Ed i must say.
Adrian Richardson
Rocko's Tranny Life and Yea Forumsmblr shlurping it up like the snoy boys they are
Zachary Brooks
it was always propaganda
Joseph Harris
even more than Ed i must say.*
Justin Cruz
it's basically a RML episode
Mason Wilson
To be fair, it wouldn't be Rocko's MODERN Life if it didn't feature trannies, queers and what have you. Maybe you can call it Rocko's Postmodern Life if it really bothers you.
>reboot of a series that shits on traditional values >expect it to follow traditional values
I feel that the people complaining are doing it ironically.
Angel Campbell
Except I've seen tons of people praise it left and right specifically because of the deep voice being accurate to early stages of transition. Stop trying to blindly rag on it for the sake of ragging on it
David Lopez
Rocko is probably old enough to be her father so probably yes
Sebastian Young
Nick is only relevant in USA tho. It's pretty much a failure everywhere else.
Henry Hughes
This
Nathaniel Rogers
As a Mexican, I enjoyed it, the humor and animation was great, I know that people would start a shit storm with Ralph but it was inevitable, and it was necessary to make a point for the whole movie
They shifted execs and the new ones shoved everything out the door with them.
Jacob Morgan
Just watched it. Felt a bit forced. I like how Ed is the loud silly idiot that refuses to accept the trans stuff, the trans flag colors flashing when Ralph scanned his drawings, and how they took down the evil corporation and distributed the wealth.
Thomas Bailey
>the tranny part is just a bigger problem of the forced politics
Its just “forced” because you dont like it
Kevin Reed
kill yourself trans faggot
Henry Myers
How many fucking times are you people going to repeat that? There are a ton of things I don't like but I don't call it forced. You know what forced is? Recognizing patterns and trends and seeing those trends get put into a piece of media, often times with it sticking out either because they didn't know how to properly implement something or they wanted it to stick out for marketing purposes to get people on board.
Jace Long
Tranny shit aside the whole thing came off a bit preachy and hypocritical. You fuckers still made a reboot/sequel for quick nostalgia at the end of the day.
Nolan Gonzalez
Dilate.
Nicholas Wood
Watching it now and it definitely feels forced. Like think about it, if Rocko, Hefer, and Filburt actually met a transgender person 20 years ago do you think they'd be that accepting? More than accepting, thinking it's "AWESOME!" They've been in a space bubble for 20 years yet are all super accepting of trans people.
You need to remember that nearly EVERYONE saw trans people as a joke 20 years ago. I know that probably sounds transphobic or whatever but it's the complete truth. It doesn't make sense for relics of the past to act progressive when the theme is that they're stuck in the past. (Disclaimer I'm still watching).
>Recognizing patterns and trends Exactly. Seeing one redhead replaced with a black person is one thing. Seeing it happen again and again and again and again and again and again and again and so on is another. It's called pattern recognition. Like noticing that Disney movies keep doing surprise villains now. I don't hate the concept but it's like "fucking really? again?"
>when anons learn that their childhood cartoons were always degenerate (save Disney)
Benjamin Collins
>The whole Rachel arc takes up a very small percentage of the entire movie but is pushed as being the entire plot by Netflix
For fuck's sake. I fucking hate this. It's like when Disney kept promoting GAY LEFOU for live-action Beauty and the Beast when in reality, he had maybe three lines indicating so.
I get the argument you're trying to make here, but it's pretty hard to claim that the Rachel Bighead thing was forced. Since the character was introduced, the entirety of her character has revolved around choosing a life path that Mr. Bighead did not approve of and subsequently disowned her over. Granted, previously it was over Rachel's choice of career, but is it REALLY that large of a leap to learn that there might have been something else percolating below the surface there that caused Mr. Bighead and Rachel to become estranged?
Dominic Diaz
This alone shows they're doing this shit for political pandering. Makes you feel it's "forced". Writer of Borderlands 2 / Pre-Sequel is basically on record he forced in a bunch of LGBT characters and dialogue knowing full well it would detract from the story.
Yeah, that too. If Murray & co wanted to do a message so damn badly, they could've at least taken the piss out of themselves. Instead of this completely out of left field success story, why not make Rachel a washed-up burnout who never got out of the shadow of a John ? They could even throw in a few jabs at Camp Lazlo or something to really drive the point home.
Liam Gomez
>character that represents Joe Murray hates his dad and hates making cartoons >only happy after changing genders and selling merch what does it mean?
Thomas Mitchell
>of a John ? an animal version of John K?
Landon Evans
>"forced" politics into Rocko's Modern Life >A show that once aired and entire special about environmentalism and global warming
Benjamin Lee
Honestly, the Robbie being Rachel thing was weird to me but handled in a surprisingly tasteful way. There wasn't any soapboxing about how Ed was a bad father for being angry at having a trans kid anyway, it was him just being freaked out by too much change. There was no 'Ed is a NAZI! for not understanding his kid IMMEDIATELY.'
Being around a lot of actual SJWs, they would have immediately painted Ed in a bad light as an evil man and had a whole screed about Rachel's struggles. Instead, it was just a simple change and Ed reasonably struggled with it. Even the most accepting parents would struggle with it, SJWs think any adjustment period makes you an evil transphobe. Clearly that's not the tone set here.
It was just a show having a transsexual character, as far as I can tell. Not really a big deal, it wasn't heavy-handed and it makes sense for an eccentric artist like Robbie.
The story beats were pretty weak, you can dislike it for that, but going REEEE DEGENERACY over Rocko where nipple jokes are common makes you a literal retard.
Spoiler: most of the complaints are probably from bored housewives who used to watch it when they were younger/kids. and no, most of the complaints don't exist on Yea Forums.
Robert Ross
That's why they threw in a Tranny, they knew the story was weak sauce so they needed a gimmick to get noticed by people other then from old fans.
Austin Johnson
I liked Rachel, but you can definitely tell they were walking on eggshells, which is what I think some people interpret as "forced". I hope for the day when trans and gay people are so common in cartoons that they are treated like any other character and don't require consultations with representatives in order to be respectful.
Gavin Clark
The whole special really felt like Joe Murray´s experiences trying to understand younger people today. Does he have teenage children?
Liam Lee
eh it depends on location and if a branch is even available among other issues ,which has been a continuously expanding/collapsing list over the past couple of decades, and those subject matters are kind of rare on Yea Forums, the foreign branches that get the most discussion are usually in japan or latin america but those tend to be cartoon network, or an user brings up his countries local dub. like everyone can guess there's a nickelodeon uk, but there's also one meant for the middle east, russia, and africa to name a few it's a fun topic to discuss desu.
If they felt the need to put in a transgender plot it probably would have been better to make it about Heffer transitioning from a "cow" to a "bull". Something more subtle and not in your face, and actually a bit of a joke making fun of how he's a male cow with utters which makes no sense. He gets bigger horns and tris bullfighting or something silly like that.
But as you said they're "walking on eggshells" so people on BOTH sides of the political spectrum will get all defensive and sensitive about it. Some transgenders would be all up and arms about the show treating transition as a "joke" even though making a joke of things is what shows like Rocko do. Like people bitching about how the trans flag in A Hat In Time wasn't respectful enough.
Politics in media is tiresome.
Julian Garcia
Everything is propaganda you pathetic pearl-clutching retard.
Xavier Ward
>Politics in media is tiresome. You can say that again.
Jaxon Lewis
I pray for the day that Steven Universe is finally canceled and stops ruining other cartoons with gay garbage
Jaxon Carter
Did I upset a transgender jannie on the board? You're really going to delete my post? GLAAD was apart of the project. Claiming that the show had no agenda pushing is just being ignorant. I can't believe how bad this board has become. I'm not even saying the special was bad or that it makes no sense to put in a gay person into the show. I'm saying it's forced.
I dont think they ruined rocko on this one because the original creator made it. Plus it wasn't over bearing with its message more of like the lesson had its two sides and it acknowledged the past as something important in shaping today.
Benjamin Torres
>Politics in media is tiresome. It really is.
Carson Stewart
I'm starting to wonder if any of the people complaining forgot about Heffer's brother, or all the other risque shit the show did for it's time. Fuck's sake, Filburt and Dr Hutchison were a pretty good depiction of an interracial couple and all the petty shit their families often pull.
Levi Moore
>she cute
Brody Flores
I assume that it’s the idea about how the show made fun of everything, considering that most people believe the clown episode was making fun of gays.
Blake Anderson
At least Rachel wasnt over doing it with the gender change. Like really, you can have some one come in the room like Rachel did in the scene say they were trans and people go ... ok cool. and move on. I feel people arent focusing how much this simple tactic works when bringing about change.
Luis Powell
>I'm starting to wonder if any of the people complaining forgot about Heffer's brother, or all the other risque shit the show did for it's time. Fuck's sake, Filburt and Dr Hutchison were a pretty good depiction of an interracial couple and all the petty shit their families often pull. user is all a big meme there is no reason for this is just user boring prank
If I learned the Invader ZIM special had a Trump stand-in character I'd groan so fucking hard. Doesn't even matter if he was portrayed negatively or positively. The entire thing would forever be overshadowed by politics.
I'm looking for an Invader ZIM special not "let's sacrifice this as an excuse to culture war #2978156281565".
i'm an adult browsing a board for comics and cartoons if i wasn't fully aware i'm not normal, i'd have to be brain dead, the real question is why your high and mighty ass is even here, and i mean besides shitting up the board for (you)'s
>had gay characters before, made a joke You can't treat the gay sexuality of a character as "a joke" in current year without people getting offended.
Isaac Powell
Well you can, the trick is often who's making the joke and if they don't feed twitter afterwards.
John Cruz
>Politics in media is tiresome. I know people bitch and moan about "THERE WAS ALWAYS POLITICS IN MEDIA" a bunch, but really, this.
It's not even politics in general, AMERICAN politics is fucking cancer and should be kept away from anything that anyone has fun with. I avoid british comedies about british politics because it seems so asinine. Putting American politics into everything is just as bad but for some reason that's considered something to be lauded.
Ryder Ortiz
10% and them have not to be special for it. It really doesn't need any flags
John White
Would that be Disney marketing though? Looks more like clickbait overreacting 'news'site article biz.
Is it getting notice? I don't even recall any kind clickbait news articles about the new special.
David Hall
The studio will push and prep the crew such as directors and actors in what to say for interviews. For example, Tom Hanks was given several pages explaining what he cannot say during Toy Story 4 interviews and talking points he is encouraged to push.
One of them was to insist that Bo Peep is not a weak character and has never been a weak character and has always been capable and independent.
Zachary Myers
>that thread still hard to believe they haven't noticed the lion king one yet desu
Julian Young
I mean that's not wrong. Bopeep was never weak. Granted she was also hardly existent, getting very few scenes/lines in 1&2, but nothing that had her seem weak.
Lincoln Anderson
Of course they were walking on fucking eggshells. Unlike all the other 20 years later changes that was done with exaggeration for laughs, there was literally no jokes, no punchline, no nothing. Just 120% affirmation and then the plot moves along.
Luis Ramirez
>respectful way sure, maybe to .05% of the population with a severe mental issue, but pretty disrespectful to the average viewer
Cooper Nelson
Not the poster but i do this...
Jordan Campbell
No one triggered about the wealth redistribution ending?
there was one poster that brought it up in the "live" thread last night, and i think a couple more in the hours since but generally the complaints are about the elephant in the room and i don't mean the one we saw bathing.
So tired of that excuse. >THE ORIGINAL GODZILLA MADE A STATEMENT ABOUT NUCLEAR WEAPONS SO IT'S OKAY FOR MY NEW GODZILLA PROJECT TO BE ABOUT GODZILLA COMING TO TERMS WITH HIS TRANS IDENTITY AND LOVE OF ABORTIONS
Isaac Ortiz
The average viewer barely cared, just like the rest of the shit in Rocko that went over their head until youtube pointed out all the dirty jokes. Otherwise we'd heard far more bitching back in the day.
Hudson Davis
At least the wealth distribution thing was over the top and played as a joke. Trans is too sensitive of a topic so it can't be played for laughs and they have to bring in LGBT experts to make sure nothing is offensive. They couldn't even do the obvious "frogs changing genders ala Jurassic Park" joke.
It makes it awkwardly stand out from the rest. When that happens you feel like you're having an agenda shoved in your face rather than being entertained.
Matthew Phillips
Can I be pissed they watered down Rocko to only saying " MUH FATHEADS" and nothing else? I felt like he was just tacked on to his own show.
Spunky will never be the same again. Rocko is going to have to put him down.
Cooper Martinez
because it was literally the issue. They being it back its never gonna be like the original.
Nolan Allen
And all there gonna get for that is virtue signaling?
Landon Butler
Wealth redistribution doesn't get clicks.
Isaac Sanchez
We thought chemicals in water made made frogs gay but it turns out it made them transsexual.
Blake Gonzalez
>tranny in Rocko's Modern Life special What will they do with the Invader Zim special?
Benjamin Turner
There's a very sensible one tho, where the characters go to Hell(ck)
Aaron Adams
Why did the official Netflix Twitter write multiple posts about Rocko's Modern Life making one of the former characters a tranny?
Ethan Hall
Why are you bringing up deleted posts like they somehow matter retard?
Zachary Perry
Netflix seems to be shilling this special because it is a cartoon that had a trans character and his posts had the Netflix posts
Owen Bennett
Pretty sure I didn't get that as a kid and thought he just got fucking cucked.
Cooper Perry
*heck He goes to heck
Nathan Adams
how exactly was rocko ruined? frogs literally change sex irl. look it up. or maybe remember your jurrasic park. anyway rachels p cute so gtfo here and post some rachel porn
Josiah Butler
None of you fucking faggots talk about the based bighead song
Literally nothing. Rachel was entirely the creators decision
Elijah Cox
>I avoid british comedies about british politics Then you missed Yes Minister, one of the best comedies Britain ever fucking produced
Charles Sanders
>you are now imagining a YM oneshot featuring Hacker, Humphrey and Bernard attempting to come to terms with modern British politics
Luis Walker
>So we're leaving the European Union to form our own independence? >Yes! >Tremendous! What are we getting out of it? >Moral righteousness! Total integrity! Absolute sense of correctness! >Alright but what are we GETTING out of it. >Well. Hum. WELL.
Thomas Johnson
This show has always been ugly and stupid, much like it's fans.
It's way too on the nose for Rocko, to the point that it feels like preaching rather than an organic part of the story. Not to mention that the characters change their minds through peer pressure (Bighead being abducted to visit Rachel, and Rocko being talked down to and berated until he 'likes' the new Fatheads)
Hudson Young
What's interesting is that they never touched on the trans plot at all in any of the trailers, they really should have been upfront about it being a vehicle for social justice
Nathan Williams
This time it was poorly made, hamfisted propaganda though.
David Barnes
>poorly made Is that a joke? This was one of the most well made cartoons in years
Bentley Murphy
The winds of change only apply to leftist dogma
Josiah James
Obviously. Conservatives don't like or want change. It's in the name
Kevin Baker
It's forced because it's done without any subtlety or clever twist (something Rocko was always known for). Hefer had troubles because he was a bovine among wolves, but they were never blunt 'adoption plot' episodes. They could have had Ralph want to identify as a tadpole or some other slant on the topic, but instead went for something extremely on the nose, which ended up feeling forced as fuck
Austin Fisher
The fact that this plot was already done over 20 years ago (in Bighead not accepting Ralphs life choices in being a cartoonist), only for it to be lazily reused just to preach trans activism does makes it feel forced
Oliver Rivera
>Robbie I think you're thinking of a Sonichu character, user. This is Ralph.
Eli Clark
>if Rocko, Hefer, and Filburt actually met a transgender person 20 years ago do you think they'd be that accepting? More than accepting, thinking it's "AWESOME!" They've been in a space bubble for 20 years yet are all super accepting of trans people. It does seem weird that Rocko can't accept anything in the modern world, except for the one thing that would make him a 'bigot' in many peoples eyes today
Chase Garcia
>though?
don't tell me you hispanics are uptalking like based boys now too
John Reyes
He was forcefully abducted by Rocko to the screening against his will, and verbally berated by the winds of change for not rolling over and accepting something unquestioningly
Joshua Powell
Based Doug
Gabriel Perez
user, the only way you can get a cartoonshow made on netflix is if you go full queer baiting and antiheteronormativity. Period.
Aaron Walker
>will accept a name change but won't accept a change in pronouns What as asshole
Noah Kelly
>Of course they were walking on fucking eggshells. Unlike all the other 20 years later changes that was done with exaggeration for laughs, there was literally no jokes, no punchline, no nothing. Just 120% affirmation and then the plot moves along. Agreed. They wanted to have a trans storyline, but couldn't do any jokes. In a irreverent, comedic cartoon. Probably the main reason the plotline feels so artificial in the story
Nicholas Sullivan
Here's what shod have happened:
R. Bighead appears, Rocko asks "her" what she's been up to, it shows a flashback:
Ralph has been in the desert for 25 years creating the world's largest still life. He describes his painful and lonely existence. It shows him sneaking onto a nearby dump, eating bugs to survive. Barrels of atrazine are seen stacked in the dump (which has shown to change the sex of frogs). Finally after 25 grueling years his work is completed. After that segment we saw in the show with the farmer, Ralph screams as his life has meant nothing. He professes a strange urge to change his identity in order to make something else of his life. So, there he is, ironically selling FH popsicles to survive.
A little heavy on the science but if GLAAD is going to be so anti-science it would be a good balance.
Don't be mean to one of the last remaining sane people
Jaxon Hill
That wouldn't be good for a trans message, because while what you're saying is scientifically sound, it screams "CHEMICALS IN THE WATER MAKING THE PEOPLE GAY" type shit in the human metaphor part of it.
Blake Carter
I didn't realise being rude for no reason was a prereq for sanity
Sebastian Nguyen
This, pretty much. They have done more outlandish things, but this wasn't played as a joke. It was completely straight faced. And if it HAD been played off as a joke, there would be outrage on the opposite side.
Josiah Gray
Probably because it was treated as a joke (they were all idiots thinking in the short term and O-Town was screwed). The trans stuff was forced because no one could risk making a joke on the topic, so it dragged the whole story down
Adam Adams
Being meta doesn't make it good.
David Flores
rudeness is Based
Owen Parker
>CHEMICALS IN THE WATER MAKING THE PEOPLE GAY Isn't it? We know there's pharmaceuticals in the water supply
Logan Robinson
You're right, it is well made (great visuals, music, many of the jokes etc.) but the forced, humorless trans preaching was cringe
Michael Wood
Pretty much proves it's all a sham if your movement can't handle a single joke at the concept of cutting off dicks and men using women's restrooms.
Jason Thompson
Well it doesn't thankfully. Jhonen said it's mostly just the main characters the entire time, dib gets fat and washed up waiting for Zim to rise back up and once he does he's too fat and gross to fight so he works out to be regular again and chases after Zim and hijinks ensue for an hour and 11 minutes
Dylan Stewart
Building a wall is change. Donald Trump being elected was the winds of political change. Brexit represents change on a democratic level. Would you accept these just because it's change?
Camden Johnson
Good point but elections are expected.
Honestly let's agree saying that anyone who says let the past die, or that change is good, or that change is bad is facetious at best.
Juan Turner
We do, but specifically saying that is what pushes the character to transition, rather than a natural desire to be female, would get the most blowback you could imagine. Trannies hate facts.
Noah Hernandez
>natural desire It's unnatural to be something you aren't, biologically.
Fuck worrying about blowback. They get triggered all the time anyway. Fucking estrogen makes them weep.
Chase Jenkins
It's bad from a financial standpoint, which is why they push these agendas as it is: They're profitable. None of this shit was commonplace before gay marriage became legal. If it were profitable to kill puppies live on screen, you bet they would do it without hesitation.
Justin Barnes
user, LGBTQA isn't profitable at all. It's profitable to the people who create the media because it keeps them in work. However, it does not sell to the audience at all.
Matthew Jackson
>culturally ambiguous pillows I didn't get that joke.
Jaxson Turner
>LGBTQA isn't profitable at all. it's literally free press. Look at Static Cling, most of the people talking about it are talking about Transfrog. Remember Gay LeFou? Even though it was shit from every angle (poor representation and forced writing made both parties hate it when looking back) it was still talked about it constantly while the movie was in theaters.
Connor Scott
But is that gonna retain viewers for long when the novelty quickly wears off? Short Term gain (which isn't always guaranteed) and long term loss when these outrage mongers lose interest.
Elijah Harris
all that matters is the gain part. Once something's made its money it's made its money. Hell this shit is gonna be SO PROGRESSIVE for a long time anyways.
David Ortiz
All I see are people arguing over how stupid it is. I don't really see how you can even say that when Star Wars and Marvel Comics got fucked over when they pandered to these demographics.
I think your just trying WAY too hard to defend these disgusting practices
Luis Young
Get out of Yea Forums, see what normalfags outside /pol/ think. Twitter is obsessed too.
Bentley Johnson
>Implying twitter represents the entire world and not a small part of it
Okay tranny, why don't you go dilate for a bit since it seems like your getting a bit pissed off.
Austin Hill
user, that short term outrage is not worth the long term loss of customers and ruined IP/Name.
Look at modern comics. Look at Star Wars Look at the leery eye that people are turning towards modern marvel Shit look at how quickly disney turned frozen 2 away from the tuff dykey strong woman thing they had in the first trailer to what they have now(damage is already done and the first trailer along with the fuckton of queer talk done on the net by creepers and disney grassroots pr has turned people away from it). Net flix has lost billions in a single day Disney's SW can't sell shit and is directly responsible for the death of Toy R' Us and might have killed Hasbro. You can still find TONS of star wars force awakened stuff everywhere.
You can only cocktease a man for so long before he tells her to go fuck herself and bangs the average looking chick who's been giving us the eye or goes back home to his wife.
Staged outrage has run it's course Forcing certain people into the limelight when it's not going to work well and then telling people they are bad people for not liking it...I don't think I know what they are doing but I do know that it's upsetting people People can already see the shit stirrers for what they are as well.
Alexander Sanders
You know, if they hadn't included the tran-plotline in Rocko's new movie- literally no one would be talking about this at all.
Pretty sure it was done to rile up discussion more then be meaningful.. because the plotline is pretty tacked on.
Luke Myers
No, the tranny bullshit shows up from nowhere, and then they procede to ignore it for the rest of the special, they only add it to appeal faggots.
Hunter Wright
sadly enough your not wrong, outside of that it's a really mediocre special that most people would've forgotten about in a month or so, hell the only reason people are talking about it now is because of the outrage I guaran-fucking-tee you that if it wasn't there the special would of been ignored by normies.
Jayden Hernandez
I will support them because im not an ass hole, but even as a gay guy its sorta off putting, so dont think you straights are the only ones who dont fully understand/get it/like it.
Blake Gonzalez
I didn't think it was very good. It has a few good jokes - the booger saving boss is just a good gag - but once the trans stuff starts the show shifts gears from telling jokes to getting preachy. Like a literal cloud called the Winds of Change flies in and tells the conservative boomer Mr. Bighead that he has to accept his kid being trans. This is what I don't like about leftist politics in shows: you can't joke about them because it gets in the way of the preaching. Rocko's Modern Life was a gross show about the absurdity of adult life drawn in a bizarre way (to reflect that absurdity) that slipped jokes past S&P all the time. They're presented with a situation that is extremely absurd: a dude in a dress and heels saying he's a lady, and they do nothing with it. I'm not saying they needed to make fun of the trans character directly but once you establish that there are topics you won't make fun of or even make jokes around, the show loses its teeth - the very thing that made it an interesting show in the first place. I mean the whole scene where the trans character is introduced has the main characters react in the most dull way imaginable: pointless, one sentence approbation. And it's kinda like, who is the preaching even for? The vast majority of people watching this special are likely adult Democrats anyway, I doubt some boomer stumbled across this and had a coming to Jesus moment before reconnecting with his trans son, so like what's the point of it?
Noah Kelly
>character who's main thing was being in opposition to his more conservative dad >in a series all about generation gaps and critiques about modern life (literally called Rocko's Modern life)
it just fits so well, you might not like it but it was a logical conclusion
Zachary Sanders
It's the still gif, they never see it coming
Angel Johnson
thanks user been off of Yea Forums for a few years but check back every now and then for the reboots
Chase Jenkins
>3 guys from the 90s didn't even questioned or got confused by Ralph's change... >Instantaneous "you go girl" Maybe they were running out of time, but i would like something more organic and less forced. I think that's my big problem with the special,it felt rushed and fast As Fuck. >Look at this, next, now look at this, next, now look at this. No room to breath. I didn't even really know why rocko accepted his show to change....was crowd pressure? He was mad in a second and "that's fine" in the other. I really want a entire new serialization of racko,so we can take a plot and really develop on it.
Owen Lee
The 90s was extremely liberal especially for city folk the fuck are you talking about you stupid underaged shit.
Landon Jackson
Not in the context of popular media, having openly gay characters on television was a big deal in the 90’s, let alone a transsexual.
Ryder Rivera
I’d put it on par with a lower-end episode of the original series. A lot of the jokes were too obvious, like the Starbucks being everywhere or new models of phones coming out so rapidly. Mr Bighead was good, but Rocko, Heffer and Filburt don’t really behave the way they used to once they get back to earth, Rocko could have been on his own from then. It felt like it needed to either be half as long or twice as long. And it wasn’t really funny in the same way the original show was.
Jayden Garcia
>The 90s was extremely liberal especially for city folk the fuck are you talking about you stupid underaged shit. Oh yes the 90s the decade with trans rights, and minorities in media and society. You are delusional.
Brody Garcia
It was a big deal because there was a growing population of people accepting them. Ellen Degeneres's story would have been completely different if 90s people were as intolerant as the underaged user was suggesting. You're literally too young to have even been alive at the time and you get all your education from memes, don't even fucking talk.
Ethan Wood
>Oh yes the 90s the decade with (...) minorities in media and society.
To be fair, they did have a Bush stand-in character in the original series.
If BK Kids got a Netflix reboot, who would be the tranny? It better not be Boomer.
My ten year old brother just found the whole thing funny. >"Why does he have eyelashes now?" when Rachael first shows up >Referred to Ed meeting Rachael as a "bruh" moment lol
WTF WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE WARN ME THE SJWS DISCOVERED TIME TRAVEL?!
Jayden Phillips
The main conflict should have been Rocko adjusting, as that was the central plot to most of the show. But the show never depicts modern life as blameless or even benevolent so of course they had Ed be the bad guy here. Suck-o-matic is still a perfect episode.
Michael Taylor
>Ellen Degeneres's story would have been completely different if 90s people were as intolerant as the underaged user was suggesting.
ABC put a warning on every episode of her show when she came out.
Levi Richardson
There wasn’t really an antagonist, just a problem and a goal. And yeah, the special could have focused on Rocko losing his job, catching up with everyone else in his life, seeing his family again. He felt very secondary considering he’ supposed to be the central character.
Bentley Mitchell
no one thought that retard lol there are some things in existence that you can't change, I don't want to be forced into someone else's way of life that isn't all that healthy to begin with
Adam Gutierrez
Not playing along with sick fuck trenders who look and behave like strawmen from a far right political comic isn't being an asshole, it's having some standards.
Have you never seen how these people behave? They pull this shit all the time. The second they realize they can make themselves look even more woke by pointing out the reveal was a joke and that Rachel "deadnamed" herself, they're going to tear into this thing.
