you can skip the original run if you want. taserface and yondu are part of that. dna guardians is a reboot. i'd start there. you can continue to bendis guardians, but that's where it starts "cashing in". a bunch of earth heroes join the crew. if you really want to see star-lord and rocket racoon meet, there's annihilation conquest: star-lord. but just read dna's guardians and see where you want to go from there.

Comic artists rarely have the ability to draw animals. They only specialize in humans. The only good ones are only from cover art (except in cases where the cover artist was also the interior artist). And the whole "mono-color red/white/blue eye" thing is lazy, and a sign of a shit artist. It's like these guys never looked at a real animal and say their eyes are like ours, except with the iris expanded to take up most of the visible eye, and the pupil is correspondingly enlarged. They're too busy stealing human poses and faces from online image sites. Jesus Christ, *I* could school Marvel's artists, and i don't even DRAW.

Comic artists specialize in drawing humans, and very specific human forms at that. They can't be bothered to spend a minute looking up what a raccoon actually looks like. This is also why Beast's form changes with every artist and usually sucks.
