This is the same girl under pressure was willing to join a mob in shaming another halfling who was caught sleeping with a human.
The girl is VERY worried about what other people think of her, and honestly is even more unsure about how she feels about herself which is why is still in constant development.

Halfling (Alfie) loves sex, and told everyone she was in love with blond prettyboy (Marco) so nobody would judge them fucking up a storm. Now it's coming out that he and the angry brown woman (Lydia) sleep around a lot, and everyone is judging him for breaking Alfie's delicate maiden heart. Lydia tries to save him by saying she also slept with Alfie, because Lydia is a goddamn idiot, and Alfie denies it so that she can retain the approval of the public.

Because most those stories are written with dick in hand. So after the climax there's little reason to give the actual story/art a good finish

In hindsight the best answer for this situation with Alfie is to play down her relationship with Marco, stating that she is much closer to both of them than the other women and would know how they REALLY are.
But hindsight is hardly ever the in moment action, especially since Lydia is simply trying to win the argument against the other women which for her had now been redirected to her and Marco being a thing even though she seemed to have hated men before.

Finally, dreams is being set up. The comic desperately needs it. Is there still any plot left? I can't drum up any anticipation for this comic other than for the art because no one aside from Alfie's mom seems to have any significant goals driving a plot.

They haven't done anything to accomplish those goals. The twink elf is one of the two characters actively working to accomplish anything and what he is trying to accomplish has no weight with the audience. The fate of the forest is of a different scale than the rest of the story and not likely to matter for literal years.

Lydia is great because she's basically pure id. Everything about her is blunt, crude, and to the point, but if something throws her off the dominant position she always panics and acts likes a spaz

The caravan prudes think that Marco and Alfie are an item, when in reality they're just fuckbuddies. Alfie has let then believe this to avoid the sort of treatment her mother unfairly suffered in her hometown. Alfie's new girlfriend's dejected suitor, in a fit of rage, outed Lydia and Marco for an orgy they had with some goat people. The caravan people accuse Marco of cheating on Alfie. Lydia tries to defend Marco and herself by putting Alfie's casual relationship with the lot of them. Alfie denies it, turning the caravan against her friends. Ironically the thrust of this entire chapter has been Alfie learning to accept a monogamous and emotionally invested relationship with her new goat-girlfriend. Her parents marriage was totally loveless so romantic love terrifies her.

They live in houses instead of burrows and dont have hairy feet or natural sneakiness or any of that shit. They're just very small people with long ears.
