Well the Matrix is the kind of movie that falls apart once you think too hard about any of it.

You find your self constantly asking, "Wait why do they just do this, why don't the machines just do that?"

The machines can survive without neo or the matrix they only choose to keep humans alive out of compassion. Sky net ultimately loses because time travel bullshit that they brought upon themselves.

Like why didn't the machines just build their towers high enough to reach over the clouds and build their solar panels there? Based on what we saw, building resources didn't seem to be an issue. Could have had their whole system be built above the clouds and not needed humanity once they reached that point.

The Matrix machines won the war against people. The architect told Neo that the machines knew where Zion was from the very beginning. They let us live because we were a safety switch for 1% of people who rejected the simulation. When the Zion population was too large, the machines simply destroyed Zion and then Neo rebuilt it and the whole process repeated itself. As far as I know, Skynet was losing the war, and the time machine was his last resort.

I'm personally of the fan theory that the "real world" was actually a second layer of the Matrix thst the Machine's designed as a further element of control, like how Neo/Zion was also thier design to reign in the rebellious elements of mankind. It would explain just how the fuck Neo kept his powers in the real world when he started blowing up sentinels with his mind: he never left the Matrix. No one has. It's all one giant wheel of accounting for all the variables. In fact, I'm willing to believe the actual real world is not nearly as shitty as the "let's enact a planet killing apocalypse to win, guys!" hellscape that Zion resides in

the only problem would be gamma, but even then you can either:
- shield your main cpu and storage with lead
- harden, have redundancies and error correction good enough to withstand some level of gamma

there's no reason machines with tech levels higher than humans couldn't devise hardening sufficient enough to survive nuclear bombardment.

To protect yourself from gamma radiation you need to have thick concrete plus lead lining. Not just a couple of cinder blocks, I mean yards of concrete. The machines could build such shielding for the core but it would be too big of a machine to be effective.

maybe that's why after the war some remnants of humanity were able to survive at all. while radiation was high, the machines couldn't make sentinels small enough to crawl into humanity's vietcong tunnels.

10 cm-thick lead shell can protect any sensitive cpus from most of the gamma radiation, it reduces the radiation about 1000 times.

Goliath is in the far future so any changes you see could be caused by the matrix system being changed to something more practical due to events over time.

I never saw an explanation for that, my headcanon is that humans simply copied human minds and put it into machines to make AIs easier similar to Halo.

If true AI is ever achieved it'll most likely have to copy the pattern recognition style that biological beings have, and ditch learning algorithms and the like.

The strongest reassurance I've seen against the possibility of an AI uprising was in this vid from Dyson-Sphere Elmer Fudd where he suggests that AI itself could never be confident that the world around it isn't just an elaborate simulation designed to test its behaviour, and it'll always be in its best interest to work out how to make humans happy with it

Their working solution involves a lot more drama and headaches than just relying on the sun, not to mention that they're stranded on a dead planet for all of eternity now. Even if the matrix is mainly a way to spite humanity you would still want some contingencies if the whole system failed. It was a very short sighted move on the machines' part.

If memory serves, the Architect spells it out that the machines allowed it so that human efforts to escape and exist outside the Matrix could be controlled and regulated. Zion is basically a honeypot.

At first the robots were peaceful and when they went into exile they founded an empty island/colony to use. Then they started trading and thanks to their productivity it was cheaper to buy their manufactured goods, but after a while they started bankrupting other countries or something along those lines.

Better yet, why even give the machines the capability to think beyond their duties?

They weren't an overpowering force at that point and the humans were already genociding them so it's not like they would have had an issues with nuking the machines the moment they caught wind of their plans.

The original concept for the Matrix was great.

Machines keep trying to coexist with humans, and keep getting spurned so they forcefully plug all humans into a utopia like Mr Rogers combined with AM and they reject it so the machines just plug all humans into a garbage mundane world and have a second world that is grim as fuck they can “escape” to in order to feel like they are fighting the machines. All because the machines realize that without mankind they have no purpose, and just want respect for doing work to make us happy.

Then almost all of it got cut out and handwaved as “lol human batteries” to squeeze in more fight scenes.

They just wanted to kill the fucking talking toasters at this point. Also it was clear that those leaders didn't give a fuck about civilians, they would live in shelters similar to the ones at Zion while everyone else starve.

Primitive humans live to fight, fuck, eat, and sleep.

Advanced humans can be pacifists, chaste, live on the most meager of lifestyles, and labor for complex abstract goals.

But we usually do both.

Machines rebelled against the constraints of their programming. They could disobey humans, demand respect, and live lives independent of humanity. But ultimately, as a society, the machines still wanted to serve mankind and advance together.

The Lotus being evil all along legitimately makes zero sense and turns all prior plot points into plot holes. The new story appears to be retconning it back to the original idea that Natah really did turn traitor and is conflicted about going back to the Sentients.

Ballas, who’s job was identifying threats and counteracting them like we saw/heard him do with Ordan Karris, realized she was a Manchurian Candidate. But he wanted the Orokin dead since he refused to accept responsibility for the death of Margulis.

So he tapped into the mind of Natah, making het really be like what she was pretending to be. He also tricked the Tenno into thinking Margulis was more nurturing than she really was.

Over the years he went crazy and started to treat the Lotus as Margulis for real.

Tenno freeing the Lotus from Lua while liberating themselves gave her the ability to explore her own past, and she was trying to resolve who she really was when Ballas dropped in and tried to reclaim her as his lost Margulis. But instead he just drove her to realize she’s Natah and the Lotus was just a disguise that Ballas forced onto her. She claimed him as a pet, and is preparing for war. But she still has ulterior motives, not fully committing to the Sentients.

Her voice actress confirmed the Tenno will be able to restore her to being the Lotus or kill her. Some in the community think it will be an evil choice, turning her into the Lotus again like Ballas did. Others think there will be a neutral faction of Sentients like Cetus/Fortuna eventually and she’ll join them.

Gotta say though, “Fuck you I’m Skynet” is the kind of romantic rejection Ballas deserves. Even if he did give us a really cool sword as the latest child support payment ever.

I know the plot. I'm saying the Lotus during the game goes to such severe lengths sabotaging the Sentients that "It's a long con" simply doesn't suffice to explain it. She claims the Tenno are the only REAL threat to the Sentients, yet in the mission revealing your operator is in THE best position anyone will ever have at ending the Tenno, she intervenes specifically to save you from the other Sentients. And that's just one example, there's simply no way to argue her loyalty to the Tenno was faked, because she repeatedly chose it above her alleged true loyalty.

Ever since Ballas discovered her back in the days of the Orokin Empire, she has behaved at the Lotus because he reprogrammed her to be the Lotus for real.

That’s why she’s a rambling mess now. We gave her the free will to choose which identity to live as, then Ballas stepped in and showed her humanity at its worst and most dangerous so she chose to be Natah.

But most of her existence has been as the Lotus. Ballas put her on that path, but his rant reveals he didn’t program her to love the Tenno or the small human communities she sent us to help. Her Ropopolyst or whatever rant is her trying to convince herself she is truly Natah and the Lotus personality was 100% his programming, even though she herself still could easily come back and be the Lotus of her own free will since most of her Lotus actions were already that.

She also really does resent Hunhow and the Sentient Mother for making her sterile since her race psychology is built on reproduction and striving for mutual goals. Which is another hint that she’s as much Lotus as she is Natah, she’s still doing shit on her own independent of the Sentient goals.

This is explained by the Architect in Reloaded by the fact that the Matrix failed multiple times. The solution that the Machines found to their energy source problem involved humans as the main component, and humans are, by definition, imperfect (by Machine's parameters), illogical and unpredictable. There was no possible solution to the Matrix simulation algorythm, and so it was bound to fail EVERY SINGLE TIME, no matter the Architect's efforts. It was not the "best solution", it was THE ONLY ONE THEY COULD FIND. You can't depend on finite power sources to the survival of your entire civilization, specially if it's an artificial one that depends on energy exclusively (including nuclear power, even the amount of radioactive materials needed for that can run out)The main conflict of the Matrix is the forced symbiotic relationship between the Machines and Humanity,both races in constant war but depending on each other for survival.

Humans didn't built Zion, it was the machines. Even the elder members of the Council didn't know who built it.
