Lets talk about the FUCKING CARTOON
Rocko's Modern Life Static Cling
I will tomorrow when I wake up and watch it.
3AM on Friday is a weird time to drop a special.
I had to do a lot of searching through Netflix just to find this. Same with 12 forever. How the fuck do any of their new shows get views?
I watched this being only peripherally aware of Rocko and loved it, is the show of similar quality?
>is the show of similar quality?
YEP
Practically seamless except for it having crisper, digital lines.
I thought it was pretty good. Nice animation and same kind of humor.
It's literally just ROCKO GET IPAD the episode
Transbians are cancer.
I've only seen a few episodes but this seems on-point. Probably loads of references/characters I missed.
Actually, it's Heffer and Filburt who were excited about oPhones, Rocko's the one who doesn't like new technology.
I know Rachel is trans but is she a lesbian too?
I don't even remember the Bigheads' kid being an important character at all. So the whole trans shit was about a literal who/plot macguffin.
Also CHANGE GUD, OLD/FAMILIARITY BAD felt very forced and tedious.
What was the point of this. Besides that neat cameo in Camp Lazlo's finale I don't think anyone cared about Rocko anymore
Literally the definition of mediocrity, tried to cram in to much shit with not enough time yada yada blah blah it’s always the same watch the original show this missed the mark and was boring.
The episode where Rocko goes to the super market is better written and more entertaining.
>What was the point of this.
Nickelodeon desperately trying to maintain relevance by reviving their old cartoons. We got a Rugrats reboot coming next year and a Spongebob spin off as well.
The Virgin John K vs. The Chad Joe Murray.
Is it funny? I've watched it and I didn't laugh. Is it my fault?
Yes, the original show is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. If you haven't seen it before then definitely check it out.
the show is hundreds of times better than this, the best example would be futurama, the original show is like futurama on fox this is like futurama on comedy central.
Rugrats? Like the All Grown Up sequel series or just rebooting the show from the ground up? Interesting eitherway.
Spongebob spin off could be cool.
no, it has a few site gags but that's it
The show was a lot better than this.
It was alright. Some of the gags were funny. The character moments felt really rushed though, and Rocko kinda flipped back and forth between being progressive and remaining in the past and against change. Over-all, it was alright, but I wish we got more moments with the other characters.
>Ralph/Rachel isn't important
>Had two big episodes dedicated to her, one of which is one of the most beloved episodes of the entire series
tranny shit
It was really boring except for the beginning. Everything past the segement of trying all the new tech was boring. Trans plotline was boring, looking for Ralph/Rachelle was boring, The ending was boring. Rocko accepting change at the end felt WAY too rushed.
There was so much potential for things they could've done and they just didn't do any of them. It's either a issue of the plot being boring or them just not having enough time to give it the fleshing out it needed.
Hopefully the IZ special will live up to the hype.
I think it's a plain reboot. They'll still be babies. Same voice actors too and Klasky Csupo will be involved. The art style will be a bit different tho.
That is not fair honestly. Ren & Stimpy already was kind of gay from the beginning. So it was expected to go that route while still being humorous.
I heard they made mini moose into a raging homosexual
So I'm guessing the entire thing bored you? We already got all the gags about modern technology at SDCC 2017.
Yeah, it's rushed, but I felt they did the best job they could. I think the time constraint is entirely Nickelodeon's fault.
Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.
k
why does he look like a girl? Also aren't a few of the voice actors dead?
Well, they'll obviously replace the dead ones. The rest are coming back. All of the babies VA's are still alive except for Chucky, but Nancy Cartwright confirmed to be voicing him.
>Also aren't a few of the voice actors dead?
They'll probably do what Hey Arnold did and replace the dead ones
well that's good, when we lost the simpsons voice actors to being only able to do the simpsons a lot of voice acting went to shit.
>Yea Forums does their usual bullshit of ranting about politics and those gosh darn "SJWs" that are "ruining everything"
>The actual special downplays the trans thing and the focus never shifts away from Rocko despite what retard channers and news articles would have you believe
>Yea Forums devolves an entire thread into political bullshit in typical Yea Forums fashion despite complaining that modern entertainment is "too political"
I get the feeling most people complaining didn't actually watch it.
Pretty much. I mean it wasn't bad, it was just kinda boring. The plot and jokes didn't really feel all that compelling. I think the basic idea of accepting change was cool but they just barely did anything with it except making a character trans which is just kinda whatever.
>I get the feeling most people complaining didn't actually watch it.
Meh, I'll watch it on netflix later. I just rather be in the hype threads arguing about bullshit and watch said thing afterward when I can enjoy it.
it alright
your error is thinking shitposters actually watch cartoons desu, adults who watch cartoons are pretty well a minority at this point when compared to the sea of shitposters allowed to fuck up the board with a pat on the back.
The story was a little everywhere, how rushed were they?
I thought it was great. Humor felt spot on, it felt like it knew what it wanted to do. The Hey Arnold one felt way too rushed, but this felt just right. The trans story was done with literally the only characters it would work with. Ed accepting his daughter feels very natural.
Overall, enjoyed it a lot.
That's it. If the point of a timeskip and hammering down the theme of "change", why is the setting and core characters 99.9999% the same? It would have made more sense of O-Town was completely different with only minor familiar holdovers from the original show remaining in this special.
Besides Ralph and the cartoon subplot there's nothing much to see as changed. Kinda defeats the purpose of the theme
Whoever starts the /pol/ drama is at fault. The best thing anyone else could have done was not reply.
did you read the scrolling news blurbs at the bottom of the screen when they came up?
Any rips yet?
Felt like they could have shaved 15 minutes off it easy. No reason for it to be 45 minutes.
this one was better
twitter.com
Honestly, this is the most accurate description of the special.
The new Nosey is much cuter than the old one.
I would've liked more characters showing up, but I'm glad they kept the focus on the story for the most part, instead of shoehorning in "Hey, remember THIS??"
It had the most blatant dick sucking joke I've ever seen in a kid's show.
I shit you not.
Bev and Ed are in the back of Ralph's ice cream truck and Bev points to a phallic popsicle and says it reminds her of Ed in the morning. And then she licks it. And Ed is visibly embarrassed.
Bev was a bit more sexual in this, her tits were prominently on display in more than one scene and there was a line that implied she got a boob job.
Did they make fun of how utterly horrifying and bizarre the concept of “transitioning” is like they would have in the 90’s or was it jokeless and faultless?
Yeah, surprised netflix put it as TV-Y7 considering no kids today even know what Rocko is
They don't actually poke fun of anything related to him being trans. The only time anyone isn't 100% supportive of the change is a small segment of his father being convinced its perfectly acceptable.
Ralph is a fucking frog.
As expected, can’t even find humor in the most backwards of situations.
Even though it's supposed to be "modern" most of the script feels like it was written ten years ago and left in a drawer.
>Joke about new iPhones coming out every 5 minutes
>Joke about there being a lot of Starbucks (which is actually originally a joke coming from as far back as the 90s)
>Gritty superhero reboot movies (bonus points for 3D glasses)
>Food trucks
>3D Printers (that somehow replaced comic book stores? What?)
>Conglom-O going belly up, crashing the economy and the Bigheads losing their house is all a reference to the recession in 2008
>Ed Bighead says "too big to fail"
Even the concept of reviving an old show feels dated. It doesn't feel like how reboots/revivals are done now. It feels like how I used to sign petitions and make forum posts back over a decade ago when I was in middle school about how Nickelodeon needs to bring back their old shows. Rocko begging for a revival doesn't even feel organic. The Fatheads was released on VHS, so why isn't his first instinct to go out to the store and buy more tapes? Why immediately jump to a revival?
It's annoyingly heavy-handed with the theme of "things change." They literally have a character whose name is "The Winds of Change." And it also feels ironic or maybe even hypocritical to have that theme in an unnecessary revival of a show that ended 20 years ago.
Also I guess Joe Murray hates digital and/or CGI animation? I wanna give the benefit of the doubt but the fact that Rachel uses paper and a camera to make the cartoon instead of any modern technology (hell, even using a computer scanner to scan the paper) makes me lean towards him sincerely hating non-traditional animation.
Is there any animation that doesn’t even use digital coloring at this point?
>And it also feels ironic or maybe even hypocritical to have that theme in an unnecessary revival of a show that ended 20 years ago.
Gosh, it almost feels like that's the point.
They mostly made fun of nostalgia wank and how soulless modern animation is. The trans thing was barely addressed directly, they never even say the word trans or transexual. They just call it a change.
Honestly the whole thing could have been about Ralph being gay and it wouldn't have changed a thing.
Hey so there's no fat lady that says "HOW DARE YOU!!!" so there's no real reason to watch this
WITNESS ME
But they pretty much did that. The story did take up a decent amount of the time, but the story wasn't really that incredibly developed and the character moments felt rushed, and whenever the character moments weren't going on they were "HEY REMEMBER THIS" moments, outside of the intro, and the criticism of the new trend of rebooting nostalgic franchises. It just didn't really seem to have much of a focus on one thing or the other in my opinion.
How do they make fun of modern animation?
Instead of hiring Ralph/Rachel to make the new Fatheads, Bighead's boss hires those two newt brothers and they're all "lol we have computers; making cartoons is easy." Then they have a scene of a bunch of worms typing on computers and Mr. Bighead is confused that what he's looking at is a cartoon being made. And the end product is a version of the Fatheads that's a CGI abomination.
Aggressively mediocre. Not a single joke managed to get a laugh from me.
And Ed calls the whole thing souless
>acception all change GOOD
>conserving the things that make civilization great BAD
That would be fat shaming. Can't have that in a modern 2019 cartoon, incel shitlord magatard.
They make fat jokes about Heffer. Ironic tumblrposting is worse than sincere tumblrposting so please stop.
Was that a subtle dig at trump at the end there? The ticker at the bottom of the news feed there's a line about how the Chameleon brothers were given top positions in the US government after being deported
Men can't be fatshamed.
Is the show supposed to be in Canada because otherwise that makes no sense
The timing on the voice acting was all wrong. Hutchinson's OKAY was very badly-timed and didn't have any kick. Most of the lines were delivered very blandly. Something's definitely missing.
No? I think it's supposed to be zet in Illinois or Wisconsin. The name of the town , O-town, is supposed to be a a reference to Chicago i think.
Although i can see why people would get confused
this guy gets it
>Also I guess Joe Murray hates digital and/or CGI animation?
I think it's more just hand drawn vs CGI. Which is true because hand drawn is vastly superior.
Well cuz it doesn’t make sense to get a job in the country you were deported from, actually didn’t they get deported in the show once before?
You know what’s interesting is Arc System Works show made DBZ Fighter Z had a little tutorial on how they make the 2.5D animations for the game.
They initially have a computer model and then intentionally add flaws to each frame and add 100x more articulation points on the skeleton to make it as close to 2D animation as possible
I think that supposed to be the joke. That our government is massively incompetent that they'll hire anyone no matter how stupid and unqualified they are.
Another way of looking at it could be that it's a dig at how trump is controlled by Russians and foreign agents but i think that's reading too much into a simple joke.
>watch it after constant ranting and raving about trannies
>that's it
genuinely cant believe some of you fags got so bent out of shape over that, it was fucking nothing. you guys are worse than SJWs because at least SJWs stick to websites I don't use.
The government being stupid is a joke as old as time but I dunno this version of it fell flat
They did it bros...
Rocko's... postmodern........... life......
dilate and hrtpilled
What is everyone's problem with the trans stuff? It didn't come off as pandering and it actually fit into the plot about accepting change.
Their reaction is exactly what the special was addressing too. Maybe they'll learn a thing or two after watching it.
Have you considered that the only reason they don't come here (they do) is because they're being regularly berated?
Yeah it was fine and inoffensive.
Ignore all the ranting and ravings of anyone crying about LGBT content.
Ironically in the special he said "I have no daughter!".
Rocko didn't fuck Rachel. Shit special 0/10.
Nobody wants to see transexuals, most people try to pretend that they don't exist, people don't like poop and fart jokes for the same reason. Only the type of people that get off to farting and shitting want to see shit like this in their cartoons.
It sucked. Nothing funny, despite messaging to embrace change the only thing making it worth watching was the nostalgia pandering.
>Comparing transsexuals to feces
Wew lad. Someone needs to get out of the house.
I don't know why you guys are complaining, I mean, you got a brand new waifu out of the deal didn't you?
This, feces can actually grow life, trannies can't because they mutilated their sex organs.
I think it's a fair comparison. Something that smells bad that can really ruin your day if you get too close to it, and God forbid you step in the wrong place and have to deal with it following you around. Of course, people tend to believe that the shits they're responsible for don't stink, but even if people don't say anything out of politeness their noses are still offended by the muck you're spreading.
>her
End of the day, still a guy.
Even if it's a fictional guy.
>Bev was a bit more sexual in this
Compared to her first appearance where she literally puts spanish fly in Rocko's lemonade?
No one is gonna waifu Rachel.
Did anyone else catch the Johnny Test reference? When making the cartoon they kept pushing the "SFX Button" and it kept making the whipcrack sound effect.
I haven't watched the show in over 15 years, and a lot of the sexual innuendo flew over my head as a kid, so I apparently just didn't remember the risque stuff in Rocko very well, the gross out and toilet humor is what stuck with me
I guess a better way of looking at this is that Bev is still just as sexual as she was in the original show?
They made one joke where Heffer says Roger and Filburt says he thought Ralph’s new name was Rachel.
How successful a show was Rocko back in the 90’s? I know Rugrats was a big money earner for Nick with merchandise, but Rocko never seemed as big to me.
>>Yea Forums does their usual bullshit of ranting about politics and those gosh darn "SJWs" that are "ruining everything"
Please just fuck off.
You seem to be under the impression that everyone saw it and then ranted. There was no reason to expect it done so weakly, this is an exception to the norm. The reactions were about what we knew and what we were being told.
I thought it was just a basic bait and switch joke making it seem like they were being whipped.
And uhhhh when has it ever been as in your face as all these retards claimed this would be?
It was ok, Filbert and Heffer didn’t really do much and I’d have liked to see them reconnect with their families more. Rocko didn't have much of a drive either, him wanting to get the Fatheads back was a meta commentary on the special itself but it wasn’t really funny, just obvious. Also not a fan of the winds of change commentary. Change will suit some people but not others. And it’s easy to say you should just accept change, until something comes along that you can’t tolerate. Overall I don’t think people were really clamoring for a Rocko special the way the special makes a parallel with the Fatheads and Murray comes off as kind of arrogant.
>this is official art
christ, you'd think it's fanart
SU sucks but don't pretend it and its newer ads don't exist.
It is fanart, where the fuck did you get the idea it wasn't.
Same, the change shit was really on the fucking nose. I expected as much from the beginning but still. Also the writing was really weird, on one hand I'm glad they let Rocko still be fairly assertive (him kidnapping Ed to get him to the screening) but on the other the way he acted about the Fatheads almost had the writing of a Nick Jr cartoon. As soon as the screening starts he's giggling saying "I love the fatheads!", him saying that after the entire movie felt poorly done just to setup him being disappointed with the baby character. Same kind of writing at the beginning with him saying things never change.
So porn when?
Alex Jones was right all along.
That's not ironic, that's a callback/joke.
as someone who has never seen anything of rocko outside of a compilation of adult jokes, is this worth watching?
If you have a spare 45 minutes, sure. But I wouldn’t call it must see.
It doesn't rely on past references as much as Hey Arnold did, but you're still going to feel a bit alienated if you aren't familiar with the characters.
Well... now I know why Nickeloadeon didn't want to air it.
Funny think is Joe said Nick contacted him about doing the special. Why did it go to Netflix in the end?
it kind of sucked and was a disappointment
This. It irritates me that this movie is probably a lot of people’s first impression of the show while the cartoon was 100x better
Like Arnold but seemingly unlike Zim, it's made slightly better if you mute the colors a little bit. My player can do that on its own so that's what I'll do on a rewatch if I have one, I wanted to experience it as-is first. Though I wish I knew my setting for Downmix to Mono was on the entire time.
>referring to a fictional cartoon cartoon by their preferred gender pronoun
The absolute state of Yea Forums
tranny shit aside, it wasnt a very good movie
It's got a big subplot about a tranny.
As much as I prefer it this way, I wouldn't call it much of a subplot. It's there, but there's just one quick scene with him thinking back to his childhood and deciding to do the cartoon anyway. It's just a comes and goes story. When it's on screen it's immediately being moved forward.
>scene finding him ends with "i've changed"
>scene at the office starts the conflict
>scene in a parking lot works on a resolve
>ending is the resolve
I mean yea that's how a narrative works but hopefully someone else gets what I mean, it was very weak. The way to make it stronger would be to devote more time to it but of course I'd not prefer that either.
High IQ post
kek
D Printers (that somehow replaced comic book stores? What?)
Reminder Rocko is out of a job but hey at least he learned change is always good and his rarely seen friend's sex change is accepted by everyone.
Fuck me but whatever.
I actually enjoyed Cans without Labels more than Static Cling desu
Nobody in popular media has the guts to tackle a real story about transsexualism. Everything to has to be supportive, positive and conclude with a happy ending.
The movie isn’t very good, if you can find some of the episodes online watch those instead
the thing that annoys me the most about the whole Rachel thing is they fucking reacted exactly as I thought they would
>awesome!
>that’s so cool!
>great shoes!
everybody fucking just loves it and treats it like the best thing ever
>change good, don't question it
>trans people are healthy
>re-distribute the wealth
I don't nessecarily disagree with that last part the special was a lot more political than I was expecting.
I only laughed twice too.
I already forgot which scenes made me chuckle except Ed's "nooo~" exchange because they kept the goofy sound effect BGM during it. The rest of the trans focused stuff either wasn't funny (I thought her name was Rachel) or wasn't meant to be funny (pretty much everything else.)
It's just a conflicting feeling, I went into the movie wanting to ignore it just to enjoy it but even the film's quality was off as a whole. Callbacks can only get you so far, same for meta humor which wasn't as much funny as, as stated earlier, obvious.
Ed was probably the best thing about the whole special. It’s impressive how well everyone’s voices held up after 20 years, only Filbert sounded a little off.
This is a design from the comics that came out a while back. Not what they’re going with for the reboot
Of course, everyone except the one who needed to be convinced otherwise. But I guess that's what happens when you want to appeal to that group so hard you bring in GLAAD representatives to oversee the entire production process and they still "tweaked" things like his trans design and introduction. I wouldn't be surprised if the positive lines after he says he's changed were something else originally. GLAAD is the worst of their kind. Even Rocko patting his fingers together nervously saying "heh heh... that's... nice" could have been offensive to them.
The worker voiced by Lawrence when Conglomo was starting to crash sounded more like Fil than Fil did. He lacked that force behind the voice most of the time, similar issue with Heffer.
MEGA when?
>People want a reboot so they can have a laugh and a throwback to fond memories of their childhood
>Get lectured about how you must accept change or you won’t be happy
It's such a shitty and obvious message and usually people saying shit like that are pure cancer and only use it to reinforce some stupid point. That's why when we first learned that it was about them coming home and Rocko was having a hard time adjusting, I expected it.
I wish this was just a fun little romp instead of having such a heavy handed moral and putting in something that's so politically serious in real life that it bogs the movie down from just being lighthearted.
>The actual special downplays the trans thing and the focus never shifts away from Rocko despite what retard channers and news articles would have you believe
>I get the feeling most people complaining didn't actually watch it.
Did you watch it? It doesn't downplay it, it just doesn't dare to make fun of it. Ralph coming out of his van as trans causes no reaction. No shock, no joke, nothing. I was excepting it would explain why no one had seen him, but no. Then we get Ed's reaction, and again its nothing. He is vaguely against "change". Is this scene played for joke? For drama? Then the rest of the episode is about Ed coming in terms with his trans son.
This episode could've been about anything else. Someone on the other threads said that the trans thing is only 10 minutes or so. If so, he cut all the scenes of other characters having to deal with Ralph being trans, or anticipating towards its reveal. First half explains where the show was left, then a montage of getting them settled after 20 years under rock. And then the last half is about the trans story.
The only joke I smiled at was Rocko being immediately against the baby.
>either you accept your son is trans or you doom your entire town and become homeless as you watch your world crumble around you, on top of it all being a mistake placed on you for something a bizarre series of events caused
Given the atmosphere of irreverent satire the TV series had it's disappointing to see this revival so interested in reciting fashionable dogma.
I wasn't disappointed by the amount of frog tits in this special. Thanks Joe!!
Not having seen the original show, I liked it a lot. It wasn't laugh a minute, but I got a few chuckles. The animation was great, the VAs did a good job, and I thought the trans subplot was well handled. It was certainly miles and miles ahead of the Harvey Birdman comeback special.
Really disappointed they didn't call it Rocko's Postmodern Life, but I suppose the writers would need some self-awareness to do that which they clearly are lacking judging by the absolute state of this shitshow.
>the Harvey Birdman comeback special.
I never even watched that shit, it seemed so fucking bad from its own trailer and the reception thread I was reading as it happened seemed to reinforce the same thing.
I agree, that part felt awkward. Would've been better to keep the comedic rhythm going in my opinion. It also doesn't feel like Rachel and Ed's relationship was fully resolved but whatever. Overall I thought it was decent.
>I was excepting it would explain why no one had seen him, but no.
I found this really weird too, why did they go to everywhere he sent a postcard from? Wouldn’t it make more sense to go to the last place he sent one from? Also Ralph doesn’t even look remarkable different, but Rocko’s the only person to recognize him without an introduction. On that point, long hair, a dress and high heels don’t make a man into a woman. His voice isn’t even different, I wonder if that’s part of the joke too? Or would a falsetto have been seen as insulting?
imagine cutting your dick off I mean seriously lmao
>Rocko's Postmodern Life
That’s funnier than about 95% of the material in the special.
>long hair, a dress and high heels don’t make a man into a woman. His voice isn’t even different, I wonder if that’s part of the joke too?
The ususal "trans rights" thing that you are expected to do what you're told, and that means accepting a man with long hair, a dress, and high heels is a woman.
literally LMAOing at the 40% of trannys that end of killing themselves anyway. I wish I could read history books 100 years from now about the 2010s when men were chopping their dicks off and injecting hormones into 7 year old boys
I missed this show's OST, I don't really know what type you'd call it, there's two factors. One is the Looney Tunes score where sound effects and actions are part of the music, the other is the tone itself, like a lot of it has this Hawaiian sound to it.
Anyone know what I mean?
But they’re not a woman?
Was this intentionally 9/11?
A heavy reliance on the brass and percussion section, particularly the tuba.
Joe Murray has an attractive art style that only people with an IQ over 130 can appreciate.
No, with them bogging the series down with a heavy issue like being accepted as trans I'm surprised some short reference to events like that wasn't made. Rocko could have been flipping through channels and passed a movie in New York without the towers, for instance. Not pointed out, maybe 3 frames of heavy channel flipping.
I mean, I remember that scene in the original where Heffer was watching TV and the president was shot or something.
Really think about it, having the same voice actor do a "female" falsettoi voice would have sounded fucking awful and cringeworthy, they just had him speak a bit more softly and it was more realistic honestly.
Then why was the boss dressed as an Arab?
The style is very fun, it can just easily look too loose, which I think was the case for Rocko's model looking really cheap sometimes. Everyone else looked fine.
>Zim was cancelled for referencing 9/11
>Rocko ends up referencing it on Netflix
Wealth gag, Sheiks are super wealthy.
No. Its sexist of man thinking they can be woman by wearing a dress, long hair, makeup, high heels etc. Its like calling yourself black for putting on blackface, eating watermelon and KFC, purple drink, dressing like rapper etc. Only shallow and sexist trans dress like that. Its just acceptable because nobody gives a shit if some women are against it. Trans blacking is only unacceptable, because those who don't like it make more than noise.
>all of that shitfeast
>over a subplot that is so small
If that entertainment article didn’t overreact the trans shit, than no one would have really cared
Reminds me of that cunt who was at the AT finale screening who said the kiss between PB and Marcy was like 8 amazing long seconds and shit. Both of these things are retarded anyway though.
Plus AT had a false hamlet rumor.
It was Joe Murray's regular ass voice
The heffer voice thing is apparent when he says "inside another taco", I noticed this in the original clip release which is part of why I wondered how subpar the movie was going to be, since it was just the montage of things.
I wonder why they put the drone so prominently in the poster?
It was their transportation. I would have been more concerned if the NSA illuminati camera was on display.
I think they did their best to balance the cynical satire of the original with current year stuff that Joe Murray wanted to include. The original show was famous for being anti corporate and pro recycling.
>GLAAD is the worst of their kind
I've been saying this for years. I wish people would just do what they want without fear of being shouted down by activists. Even people who go in with good intentions have to go through sensitivity readers.
I swear there was an article in the beginning where Joe said he requested old traditional animation and Nick agreed to his surprise.
Nickelodeon got spooked when the Hey Arnold Jungle Movie flopped and didn't want to air it on tv anymore. That's the reason.
Recycling isn't the same kind of topic as LGBT.
Speaking of, anyone got a Mega for Jungle Movie? Haven't seen it since around the time it came out which was already over a year or two ago at this point.
It’s definitely a cost vs quality argument. And it tends to suit the work, Johnny Test wouldn’t have been a relatively better show if money had been spent on hand animation.
This is also why Static Cling and Enter the Florpus were delayed for a year. Nick didn't have confidence that they would be worth airing.
Recycling arguably is a more pressing concern for the entire planet in the long term than LGBT issues, which seem to constantly be in flux as LGBT rights are an exercise in moving goalposts.
Anyway, did anyone else notice that the Fatheads parts were in thicker marker looking lines than the rest of the special?
Thank you user
One of the few things I really liked about the movie was Bev being a good neighbor to Rocko. Really cozy interaction and that's why I wanted to see more of them reuniting with their families. I just now thought about it but it'd be nice if he had called his parents or something and talked to them.
The Fatheads sequences had undermasked shadows to reference cel animation, plus a barley visible static filter.
I know I’ve aged when I find Ed the most relatable character. Does Joe have issues with his parents? Ralph’s first appearance was about Ed not wanting his son to pursue a career in cartoons when he had a safe career available. And they thought his depiction of the Fatheads was because he was resentful of his parents.
Not sure about his parents but he did have a lot of stuff going on during Rocko, with his wife's suicide for instance. I think Wacky Deli was said to have been a reference to Joe wanting out after his wife's suicide and Nick fucking with him in some way.
Bev and Rocko always had a nice relationship, even if Bev took it too far at times. I’d like to have seen Filbert and Heffer interact more with their families, particularly Filbert’s kids. It looks like the first time he sees them since returning is at the very end of the special.
He blames his long work hours and commitment to Rocko on his wife’s suicide. And he says he associates Camp Lazlo with his divorce. Sounds like Joe had a hard life.
That's why those sequences looked so great!
Was The Fatheads always owned by Conglom-O? Then in essence Ralph ended up working for his parents indirectly in the end.
Didn't Joe Murray do a stint in fine art before going into edutainment television?
Nick must have been sheer assholes to their creators at that time. Hey Arnold famously got canned after the whole Jungle Movie fiasco and then the creator went on to make Party Wagon for CN.
Joe looks like a goddamn mess if you look up recent photos.
I haven't seen the show in a while. Did the last episode end with them going to space?
>over a subplot that is so small
Are you okay? The 2nd half is about that.
one of the last episodes but i dont think it was the last broadcasted, maybe produced
shadman when?
or will the tranny mafia subdue him for trannipussi?
>re-distribute the wealth
they said it's illegal though
>it takes 8 hours to download due to the waiting time you have to do
I'm curious about self-harming myself to this but i think its better if i avoid it. I think my mental health is decreasing with each step i take onto this.
Please leave Zim out of this.
D Printers (that somehow replaced comic book stores? What?)
Retard alert. Its a joke about how digital media has taken over.
HAHAHAHA ha
Meanwhile, American Dad actually had the balls to make both sides reasonable.
cope
How
i thought it was weird that rocko wasn't at least a bit weirded out by trans ralph at first. but i guess they did that to make Ed's reaction more of a contrast? either way the trans stuff didn't bother me that much.
Rachel is cute!
>im finally happy
sure
It flips it around by having it be about Stan accepting Terry's dad's dislike of fags.
Rocko is 35? I thought he was in his early 20s.
I'm convinced doing that giant still-life carving in the middle of the desert completely cooked his brain tbqhwy
>Nickelodeon
>Netflix
Choose one. If Nick wanted to do it, they'd do it, not Netflix.
Rocko is 35, Filburt is 36, Heffer is the youngest in his mid-20s.
I'm halfway through. It feels like Rocko. VA's are doing strong work.
wow way to be the exact thing the film was making fun of, lmao.
i would.
It still shows "Nickelodeon" at the beginning, it's not an IP owned by Netflix. Netflix just has the rights to show it right now.
retard artists really latched onto this as soon as that article image came out
What's this quote from?
Also this is the same show that had an entire episode and song sequence about recycling and an overall theme of anticorporatism
I mean to be fair, society has changed surprisingly little in the past 10 years. Everything that is a "thing" now was already a thing in 2010, just a bit less popular.
There isn't much you can say about today that wouldn't apply to 10 years ago.
Despite not paying much it much attention when it was airing i still enjoyed the special. It gave me a few chuckles here and there, the voice acting was good as always and the animation even if not as good looking was still solid. The Trans plot was short and surprisingly not given too much focus but it was still wholesome. The only thing im disappointed on is how short the special is. This was announced back in 2017 and just like that is over. I just think a cartoon like Rocko should have returned in the form of a movie rather than a special after so many years, but at the end of the day, this was made by Nick so that's probably their fault. Still, they did a good job with the limited time they were given. Also, im very happy they showed Filbert's family in the end, very cute.
nigga, i watched the cartoon and then drew it.
There is nothing wholesome about LGBT representation in a kids cartoon.
Zim gets an 1 hour 11 minute movie next week, I wonder if Joe requested it be short or if its short runtime has to do with how they did they animation.
wrong.
thats nice
Why was Rocko shocked to see that the Fatheads weren't on tv anymore? He knew the show ended before he got blasted into space. That was even the reason why they made the Wacky Deli cartoon.
There's a lot more to Zim than Rocko.
Zim also has a bigger fanbase and much more merchandise.
That has to be one of the worst aspects of the special, there's negative and loose continuity and then there's basing a special around a character and something that was only mentioned like twice in halfhour specials and getting its catalyst wrong.
Kid on the left definitely did some weed.
It was from before the show aired, about how the network complained there was no positive female role model. Ironically this led to the creation of Dr. Hutchinson
Space madness I guess.
There was no Wacky Deli reference at all in the new special which was disappointing. Not even a throwaway line like "We should just bring back that deli meat show instead"
She's a great character yet she gets like three lines in this special.
i like his nintendo controller belt buckle.
transgenderism IS a pretty 2010s topic. would you rather 'Rocko's literally modern life' NOT cover it? It'd feel stranger if they didn't.
God I hope the Zim movie doesn't suck even though I have a gut feeling that it will.
Were the Fatheads a huge part of the original show? I remember Wacky Deli and them watching it. I don't recall it being like the only reason Rocko cared about life.
he was trying to at least catch reruns.
They just honed in on one aspect to focus on.
It didn't lead to any good laughs. I'd say it was a mistake because it has to be taken very seriously to get the message across. I get what they're going. It doesn't make for a funny special.
Am I the only one who thought it was weird that supposedly 20 years has passed yet nobody has visibly aged? I was expecting the bigheads to look like shriveled prunes.
>It'd feel stranger if they didn't.
Not in one 40 minute special. There were lots of things they didn't reference that you could argue would be weird if they didn't. For instance they could have referenced Rocko's problem being solved if he tried to pirate something online. That's a direct part of the story and not a secondary path with making someone transgender.
not every minute of a cartoon needs to try n make you laugh. that's how we get shit like almost naked animals.
Although trans folk have been the butt of gags for ages, it felt incredibly biased to have jokes about every modern thing EXCEPT them in this special.
Times are changing user, maybe you should too. Just an advice
Conglom-O didn't put the show on O-Tube at least?
There was exactly one joke about Filburt mistaking Rachel's name.
They're cartoon characters.
>mutilated their sex organs
Most trans people don't do that
I could buy rocko and his friends not aging cause of them being in space, but for everyone else, it is pretty weird.
Yea no extra lines on their face or anything, I kept forgetting to mention it. The kids grew up but they kept all the original designs.
I assumed that was just a joke in itself; most cartoons are on a sliding timescale. People in RML age when the situation demands it, otherwise they're always the same age.
Where are the kids? Where they in the special?
>There was exactly one joke about Filburt mistaking Rachel's name.
"Roger" is a basic ass fucking joke that had nothing to do with Rachel or her change.
At the end during the screening stuff. Around the same time Bev references a boobjob.
At the very end during the epilogue
But it came directly after the reveal
The issue is he could just watch them on Youtube/buy the DVDs. That needs to be addressed.
A huge part of the plot to a comedy cartoon like Rocko should lead to more laughs. Otherwise why do it?
He doesn't know that YouTube or DVDs exist.
Yeah, watching the same video tape thousands of time would probably leave you surprised when you find out it’s not being made any more.
>A huge part of the plot to a comedy cartoon like Rocko should lead to more laughs.
Rocko's humor comes from subtlety and reliability. not "haha trans people am i right fellas"
thats some family guy tier shit.
after a while though his goal was to see entirely new fatheads
Didn't Family Guy try to do a trans episode years ago and GLAAD got butthurt about it? To which Seth was like "whatever lol"
Part of the issue was that there was a direct jump between watching the show and wanting a revival special.
During the premiere in China they didn't even do any cartoony caricatures of the race. Such a shame. There was a Bart Simpson lookalike for some reason instead.
They didn't even go for the more funnier name, Ralphina.
Really Really Big Man apparently King Crimson'd everyone 20 years into the future. Nosey briefly references it at the very end in a single line.
Which seems like a metacommentary on the special itself
Did anyone else find it weird that Rachel pingponged between wanting to do the special and not wanting to do the special? And she was somehow able to make it in like 5 seconds all by herself?
I'm more interested in the Hey Arnold! flop. I remember being so hyped to see the theatrical release movie for HEY ARNOLD THE MOVIE or whatever and being not that impressed. Also remember the rumors going yeaaars back about how there was a JUNGLE MOVIE in the works but Nickelodeon had cancelled it or some shit.
>This is somebody's crackship.
>using the new name and pronoun
ralph
he
>this isnt just new fatheads, its DIFFERENT FATHEADS
why did they make rocko a fucking strawman
I finished it. Animation was good. Voice actors did a fantastic job. Plot was weak. Jokes fell flat. The theme of accepting change is a good one to have. I didn't think the special explored it in the best way.
I'm not asking for "haha trans people". Have a subplot that leads to more humor. It didn't.
They ran out of time.
It's because it's not there for humor or entertainment value. It's to teach the audience a lesson. I'd rather them not have it if they were going to play it so straight.
Ralph winding up a faggot isn't that shocking. Whenever I saw Wacky Deli, he was more annoying than even his shit parents. His voice already had the makings of a onions boy back then.
Sorry sweaty but you have to change your attitude
>Girl with a male voice
It's the best
Big Man's nipples are the reason Ralph got screwed over.
i'll say!
That's nothing compared to the South Park episode where Mr. Garrison gets a sex change surgery.
I mean, Hefer's grandpa is looking pretty transparent nowadays
I liked it. Surprisingly good. I would've liked some more jokes about the transition, like asking why she didn't pick a cooler name, but I understand why they don't want to touch stuff like that.
Based as FUCK.
This. Rocko deserves better but I guess he’s the in universe of a FUCKING STRAIGHT WHITE MALE so who cares what he thinks
L-lewd
This change is really going to weed out the faglords who use the new name and pronouns in the future even when discussing his old appearances.
It was really off with everything else being made fun of or depicted as a joke but ralph being a trannie. Like lets have this thing but we can't or won't dare have anything funny about it.
Pretty sure Rocko doesn't want to buy DVDs or watch it online. He tried to discourage Spunky from using O-toob because it would "hurt him." Rocko just wanted to sit on the couch and watch it on tv exactly like he did in the 90s. At most he might have watched some more VHS tapes but they're probably impossible to get now.
the jungle movie we got is not the jungle movie that was planned. it just has similarities.
it's been a comedy trope for years.
seems like you're the one with shit humor, dag.
>because a character becomes a tranny for a grand total of 15 minutes 20 years later now all instances of that character's name are replaced with their tranny name despite having zero relation to the episode and making the synopsis make no sense
classic liberal bullshit
This doesn't make sense either. It's not like the Fat Heads special would air on TV in 2019. If he wants reruns back, that's an entirely different plot.
You better not be dead-naming!
it's good there is more rocko rather than less rocko
I don’t know which is more sad the fact that somebody actually went in and changed it or the fact that is pisses me off so much
>you' are biased and nitpicking, i win, bye bye.
keep sayin' it.
>I don't even remember the Bigheads' kid being an important character at all. So the whole trans shit was about a literal who/plot macguffin.
I think Ralph was only in the Wacky Deli episode and then background in a few more episodes after that.
>Filburt is 36
Didn’t he turn 21 back in Season 2? I’m currently still in the middle of binging the original series, so feel free to let me know if the show addresses Filburt’s age again in a later episode.
>Jew gets cucked
keep' saying it
Also I could be wrong but I think Wacky Deli was a two-parter and the first part was Rocko and pals searching for Ralph, the second part was Rocko with Ralph in Hollywood on the set of Wacky Deli. Then Heffer and Philbert become in charge of Wacky Deli and make an episode?
My memory is hazy
The fact that it pisses you off is really sad
Hey Arnold actors didnt die, dipshit. They used actual kids to voice them and kid's voices inevitably change. They went through like 5 different Arnolds by the time the series was done
see:
You at least get why, though
>Be me, dog humanoid doing dog humanoid things
>See someone walking up road
>A gust of wind blows
>See small slimy green penis
>Day ruined
Sadder than somebody furiously typing away to edit a 20 year old cartoons Wikipedia page to change all of the “he and his” to “her and she?” Only a few hours after the special aired? Sounds like we all need better things to do
Yeah
You’re mixing “I have no son” and Wacky Deli. I’m watching the episode now and it sounds like Joe speaking through Ralph, even down to him wanting to sculpt the world’s largest still life piece.
Change from black to white is a fallacy. Please eat detergent.
You'd think him losing his job would be a bigger plot point.
Who cares that Rocko is now unemployed and potentially homeless! At least he learned that you should blindly accept change! Also, redistribute the wealth and eat the rich
Frogs don't have penises
being mad is no less pathetic than frantically editing a web article for a 20 year old cartoon to make sure all of the pronouns are “properly” updated. Get fucked faggot
Ralph was definitely a creator insert. I got to rewatch those eps.
So was this a two parter like I remember? First part is Rocko searching for Ralph, second part is Ralph and Rocko in Hollywood, Ralph wants to get off Wacky Deli so he lets Phil and Heff make an episode, thinking it will be shit, but then it turns out to be amazing and the execs love it?
Rich fag detected. Enjoy getting your food from the mall like everyone else you wealth scum.
Not rich I just don’t believe that unemployed scum deserve free shit for existing
>s-shut up we both are patetic
Hoes mad.
honey, all fan-wikis are like that.
as soon as something new comes up, they are on that shit.
I’m glad it included LGBT content. Netflix is really knocking it out of the park.
I am mad but it’s still pathetic. It’s pathetic to get angry over but it’s more pathetic that your cause in life is editing wiki pages for cartoons
It's not just fan wikis, the actual wikipedia page was changed as well before the special even aired.
I swear people who unironically use hoes mad have the mentality of a middle schooler.
How hard is it to just type "rocko" in the search menu?
You sick bastard
>Only two views
It bothers me when media depicts YouTube, but fails to really plumb the depths of how shitty it is. That 10 hour video would be ad central and would at least have several hundred thousand, or else it would have never surfaced for them to find.
>Am I the only one who thought it was weird that supposedly 20 years has passed yet nobody has visibly aged?
Yeah at least Filbert kids did age
you're the one spending all this time looking at every instance change of the name. i don't even give a shit about wikipedia
hoes mad.
>H-h-h-h-h-hoes m-m-m-mad haha
Not even a good argument. I won.
Well if you type something like "mop porn" you get videos with low view counts like this:
youtube.com
>Netflix is really knocking it out of the park.
Netflix has nothing to do with it. Joe just wanted to add some LGBT representation
If you don't care then stop replying like a bitch nigger
>this entire thread
Wasn't there an image of how cuckchan would end up looking in a few years?
>Twelve Forever
>She Ra
>Now trans Ralph
Netflix is killing it
I wish I were taught tolerance as a child so I could have learned to better accept myself.
>I dont care about your gay homosex just bring back my show
This is what the episode was about
I’m glad creators like Joe are getting more woke to current issues. Makes me wonder if Craig McCracken or Genndy Tartakovsky will start contributing.
How many frogs have you flipped over user?
You think Enter the Florpus will add LGBT?
>Lets talk about the FUCKING CARTOON
OP, this thread was doomed to derail from the start.
user, You're posting on imageboard. You're not successful or didn't make it far enough into normalfaggotry. There's a reason why you're here and you're too stupid to actually answer that question.
Everyone was distractingly off-model and out of character. Animation was stiff. They got GLAAD on board to dodge criticism for how bad the trans subplot was. The way characters reacted to it was over the top and condescending. We are told that if someone isn't immediately accepting of change they are a monster.
>t. /pol/
>GLAAD
Alright this is like the 5th time I've seen this acronym in this thread, what does it stand for?
Gays love anal and dicks
I'm trans. You don't have to be cis to understand this.
If you’re trans, shouldn’t you appreciate this even more?
But the horrible magic of YouTube is that you don't have to search for dumb things to find the lowest quality videos now. Many of YouTube's highest earners are basically "Ten Hours of Mops", and it'll show up in the recommended feed. And because it's recommended, it's viewed, by bots, kids, or users who fell asleep.
>people casually using terms like cis
this board is so fucking dead
>watch the spic dub since I grew up with it
>everyone's VA is still the same except Rocko's
>find out his original voice actor(Carlos Inigo) passed away two years ago
GLAAD is based though
Why would I appreciate a cartoon that is being condescending towards me? I want to be treated the same as everyone else. Not pandered to.
I just want to know who wanted/needed this. I can't imagine there were all that many people going "gee, I wish they made more Rocko's Modern Life" for the past 20 years. It's a series stuck firmly in its time and doing the tired old "change bad old times better" angle doesn't make it any less unnecessary.
>condescending towards me?
shut the fuck up
Its a live action reboot, isnt it?
no user, you don't understand.
People with autism are mostly trans
People with autism were the ones that complained about shit pandering to them. Are you retarded?
Eh, half and half. The change shouldn't have been made, but it's just text.
>Do what you're told.
Not very sound advice.
See, you're based. I wish more trans people were like you.
I wish Rocko had a bigger freakout about a baby being added to The Fatheads. His anger towards change got resolve too quickly, considering his desire to watch The Fatheads again drove the entire plot of the special. Otherwise, I loved it. Lots of great callbacks and spicy innuendos.
>grew up with mostly LA dubs of cartoons
>"oh cool evangelion netflix"
>asuka's voice actress died
>
i have the same issue, user.
i'm not gonna watch it if its just going to make me get closer to suicide. Netflix and cartoon network only hire new voice actors for their shit and its not worth it anymore.
I imagine it’s a combination of nostalgia for the 90s plus Nick scrambling to cash in on older franchises after everything else failed
You should be grateful you’re getting any attention.
I wish there was more cartoons about people like me.
how was it condescending?
The subtitles called the voice before you see Ralph "Man".
I'm sorry, do you like it when a character transitioning becomes the only takeaway people have about a cartoon special? And the supporting characters around them react in weird, overexaggerated ways? And they continue to drill in this completely unrealistic idea that everyone should be immediately accepting of big changes full stop, because otherwise they deserve to be punished? I sure don't.
You type and respond in the worst fucking way so I'm not surprised you're LGBT.
I thought that was a reference to how Rocko's house got into space.
Also that whole plot device was dropped as soon as they almost literally fell on top of who they were looking for as they were about to give up.
They won't. Especially Genndy since everyone was pissed off at him for making Jack and Ashi a thing.
Rocko spent the last 20 years watching a VHS of The Fatheads to keep his sanity. After experiencing the future shock from the 21st century and learning The Fatheads have been wiped from TV, he broke. He just desperately needed something to remind him of his own time period.
The age different was creepy and ignored entirely which is disgusting and made me uncomfortable the entire time. Shit was messed up.
Not him/her/octopus but kill yourself, this attitude of "respond to me in the correct way" is why we cant have nice things anymore.
Where do all of these tripfags come from?
Anyway isn't it weird that three middle aged guys socialized in the early 90s are immediately accepting of a transwoman?
>this attitude of "respond to me in the correct way"
Or just don't type like an obnoxious fuck head like you are also doing.
Overly political and almost every joke falls completely flat. I'm so fucking sick of these "revivals" of 20+ year old cartoons that are clearly made by the nostalgia-obsessed millennials who grew up with them and want to shoehorn their "woke" ideologies into the show they THINK they remember.
Filburt's initial outburst set the tone for the rest of the episode. Nobody freaks out and gets giddy like that when someone they barely know transitions. It comes across as creepy. Ed's reaction to Rachel was ridiculous, too. And if he were really that upset about his son's transition to a woman, he would not have been so easily swayed by watching a cartoon.
Yes, an age difference between two consenting adults was the most messed up part of Samurai Jack.
But Jack cannot age. He was kinda immortal.
Why would it be weird, trans were in that time too, specially if you liked to go out at midnight.
Not really, Rocko, Filbert, and Heffer are very understanding and nice people. I think it would have been weirder if they weren't tolerant. But I guess everything has to be rude for Yea Forums.
Hey user i would accept you! even if you fucked kids i would still accept you! even if you wanted to eat shit and die in a pool of shit, i would still accept you! even if you wanted to commit suicide, i would still support you in killing yourself!
Because that's what love really is!
Where are you really really big man...
Or just get over it no one cares about your salty ass.
>get over it
Their response tone was a direct part of the conversation, you fucking retard. Quit trying to high road everything.
This whole special was just a big fuck you to Fairly Odd Parents, prove me otherwise
>Anyway isn't it weird that three middle aged guys socialized in the early 90s are immediately accepting of a transwoman?
Because they arent awful people like you
I don't think they really cared. One of them married a cat with a hook hand.
>mostly talk of tranny shit
>only one person said dilate
>only one person mentioned the 40%
Quit spamming your 12 year old understanding of shit you can't grasp.
Of course there are references, at the beginning when they are in space, Heffer opens the refrigerator and you can see Wacky Delli's mayonnaise.
cringe
Baby Fathead was far more popular than Poof.
No shit, why do you think i told you to get over it? "Its on topic bluuuuh talk how i want" jesus you are dumb.
more patronizing than anything else. Viacom wants to indoctrinate kids with LGBTQ+ acceptance propaganda, so it is what it is.
It happened at the end of act 2 so he had to turn face in order to resolve the plot.
Lay off the ad hominem, buddy! I'm accepting of non moron trans people, I just found it kind of weird
I can see Rocko being accepting but Filburt and Heffer having more trouble with it. But nah let's just move the already rushed plot along
Good eye, user.
You are so autistic you jumped into an argument you aren't a part of just to tell me to get over someone who was part of the argument being retarded.
No. The 90s were all about grrrl power and accepting the differences of others, cartoon wise. These are man children, so they probably watched enough to absorb that shit. It would be more out of character for them to be pol about it.
>proceeds to repeat himself
For sure, it was rushed to resolve the plot. But if they wanted to be respectful about a sensitive topic, my feeling is that they shouldn't have tried to shoehorn it into a special.
Yea Forums has only gotten more intolerant over time, kinda depressing to be honest with ya famalamadingdong
I mean it's ambitious of Murray to try doing this but it ends up being really off tone in comparison to the rest of the series
I'm as tolerant as the next gay, cisgender guy but I think the whole thing could have used another 15 minutes to let the plot beats work.
Yea Forums was always Yea Forumsntrarian central. People is being intolerant because they think it makes them edgy and cool.
Is your granny brain claiming this thing as high brow?
You really are 12 and still cant see the issue.
Well when your idea of being tolerant involves being annoying and obnoxious people are naturally going to move away from it.
This.
To be honest Rachel was pretty chill (almost to the point of being one dimensional) and I wish more trans people online were like this.
I hate that Rocko's Modern Life is about Rocko's Modern Life.
>show tries to be wholesome with a modern message
>WHY ARE YOU SO OBNOXIOUS
I don't care how much of the special focused on it, I don't like one of my favorite cartoons being brought back to preach how a mental illness is a good thing. I won't be letting my kids watch this.
Not to mention it just stook out like a sore thumb how they weren't allowed to make any jokes about it. It felt so unnatural.
Maybe if you didn't dig up old shows just to ruin them with your agenda people would be more accepting you faggot.
>tries to be wholesome
And they failed.
Please just fuck on.
Aren't we supposed to treat this mental illness with HRT and surgery? Then it's not a mental illness anymore.
who's the cutest Rocko girl?
Mrs. Hutchinson
>Netflix
>jarring and forced fag/tranny shit
No surprises there. Genuinely surprised they didn't try to pull a BMWF somehow, though.
The ones you interact with that you don't know the gender or identity of don't factor into your thoughts? Just the obnoxious ones that give you that feeling of outrage and a tingle of superiority. Outrage sure is addictive.
you are the most obvious falseflagger I have seen in my life
trans are in the middle of every joke in a lot of modern cartoons. One not doing it isn't "pandering"
Nick was going to air it so don't blame Netflix
It's very likely you've interacted with many transgender people online without ever being aware of it. If you only count the exceptional experiences then of course your worldview will end up distorted.
oh hey, someone reposted my art
I don't feel superior to obnoxious trans people.
If I was so outraged then why did I bother watching the damn special?
Well, yeah. It's just that the most vocal and obnoxious ones end up being activists and influence policy to make more trenders and kids who want to stop their puberty.
You mean Ralph's Postmodern Life.
What issue?
>that scene with the elephant.
Take it easy, it's just a drawing.
What? Lol weak b8
>shit changes, either keep up or get out of the way
Why does this message always come off as incredibly smug?
I'm the user being accused of being outraged giving the politically correct response to the mental illness meme.
Because it comes from people who are driving change
user, Limb mutilation isn't the same as surgery. If you support practices like those you' are as bad as people who suggest euthanasia to be legalize
Between what Netflix is known for and the fact they shoved in their "original film by us" logo at the start, I can understand the confusion. Plus Netflix adaptions are pretty trendy so this being a rare exception due to unfortunate circumstances with airing it makes it more confusing.
I don't care, it's fucking degenerate and promoting this kind of lifestyle is unhealthy is only gonna cause more fags to kill themselves.
But what if its a change that people don’t like? I’d like to see this argument applied to the UK leaving the European Union.
Rachel is cute!
With your retarded ass "is this a reference to...." shit. It is an age old cliche and you're just showing your age if you're like "dur its FOP guise its a jab at them ddaammnn"
There’s a heavy push to legalize euthanasia.
the only way you can be trans and wholesome is to shut up about it, I don't wanna see that shit.
Accepting change doesn't work when the two characters that can't accept it have been, with the writers going out of their way to do so, shown to suffer these changes. Rocko is back on Earth for seemingly a few hours and his skin melts off and he got injured during a 3D movie, slapstick aside he lost his fucking job and got food poisoning. Ed was forced into being tolerant because if he didn't everything was doomed and everyone would hate him. Nice messages.
This is the shit that gets under my skin, it isn't about a cartoon, its about the real life writers being fucking braindead and going about messages, one heavily political, in a smug ass piece of shit way. Their mindset is fucking garbage.
Anyone going to make an edit in which all the trans bullshit is scrubbed off and Ralph can still be Ralph?
That'd fuck up the story.
>The scroll at the bottom
heh.
it's the other side of the spectrum, user. they are both not ideal. acceptance isn't being put under a magnifying glass and gawked at, positively or negatively.
Seething.
Did Dr. Hutchison get the bearded dick while waiting for Filburt comeback?
Oh I see, you’re a flaming retard, tell you what faggot you wanna go get offended at nothing take it to Yea Forums you’re not wanted here.
Yeah that wouldn't work at all since it's integral to the entire plot
Not surprised.
the worst part is that Rockos new VA sucks and I have to watch it in English like some kind of school shotting burger eating faggots
So is just about ed being mad at ralph for no reason but reuse an old plot in no refreshing ways?
(You)
(You)
>being this much of a cuck that you have to pop your VPN to give yourself (You)s
You call her what you want, I'll call her what I want.
We got a thicc nude hindu elephant, so Im good.
Hippo Lady
>her
>Same voice actors
>Chuckie
user...
Obviously too woke for modern Joe, the liberal snowflake.
Would you rather it be a 45 minute lecture about trans rights?
I think he was talking about Nancy Cartwright, his second VA
It has nothing to do with intolerance and everything to do with seeing social engineering for what it is.
they could just not react in awkward, distracting ways and treat rachel like any other character.
Please please oh please tell us all about these things so great that we shouldnt change one bit about it. Make my day /pol/tard, Im beggin you here.
The changes that Rocko faced were different than those that Ed faced, though. Rocko faced a lot of smaller changes and Ed faced a couple of big ones. Rocko accepted most of the smaller changes while Ed resisted all of the big changes at first until the trans thing.
Once Ed comes around to Rachel, Rocko comes around to his final nitpick about the revived show and everyone is happy again.
yes. The enabling of gender dysphoria and hormone therapy given to children will be looked back on in horror by the generation that comes after us.
If Ralph wasnt important why do you care about him being trans?
Joe has always been liberal and left leaning. Did you miss the recycling episode? The whole episode is so famous that it was archived as part of a Californian mass media museum years ago.
cat lady hook hand doctor
>I cant not see the fucking penis now
They glossed over him losing his job big time just to make him more stubborn about minor things.
I bet you get mad when someone draws a pre-established character as black or trans too, the irony is palpable.
Well you guys are getting butthurt over a cartoon frog's sex. This is Arthur's gay rat wedding all over again.
Remember when Yea Forums was the liberal and accepting board?
Recycling is not the same kind of shit as gender dysphoria, it's environmentally conscious. You don't have to be liberal or left leaning to do it in a basic way.
It's fine since literally all of Conglom-O's profits launched into the sky and rained upon O-Town at once by the end. Complete with a jab at capitalism.
Honestly, I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The humor was great, a few gags getting me to laugh out loud. The animation had some odd bumps here and there, but mostly transitioned well to digital.
The trans thing was handled pretty well. It wasn't lingered on, and it served the overall theme really well. Some of the jokes about it even got me laughing.
"Noooooo"
"Yeeeeeeees"
"Roger? I thought your name was Rachel..."
That literally had nothing to do with what I was talking about.
>>"Noooooo"
>"Yeeeeeeees"
This was the only good one. Hell, one of the only good jokes in the entire special.
You're pretty stupid, then.
You mean the wedding that was well received here?
Wut? When did that happen?
Not really. The plot was that Mr Bighead couldn’t deal with change. You could substitute Ralph’s change with anything else Mr Bighead probably wouldn’t like and it’d work the same. He could come out as gay and have a husband, he could have converted to judaism, he could join the alt right movement, and it’d be the same story. Only the jokes would change. There was nothing specifically about gender transitioning that was necessary to the plot.
Arguably it still is. There's just a lot of /pol/ shitposters like all of the other popular boards.
Ratburn was always flamboyant. Ralph never was trans until now
Are they truly mutually exclusive?
You're joking right?
Yea I remember thinking it was kinda dumb to do it so late just for the attention and I got muted after enough responses to my post made it look like I was a shitposter.
>Ralph never was trans until now
So? The episode was about accepting change to the status quo. Who gives a fuck about Ralph, are you going to tell me you were big Ralph fans?
>reply with something that was off topic
>You’re stupid!
Mm
Some user called this years ago, they said that Rocco wasn't going to accept the future and the moral of the story was letting things change.
Joe murray is a different version of john k, he knows exactly who to torture.
>it still is
Nope. All the liberals left for twitter
You're stupid to think it was off topic, my man
Isn't that a good thing though? If queer characters are gonna be in shows, it should be incidental, rather then the whole point of the character.
did you like the elephant woman's butt?
Are you?
But it seems like the entire point of Rachel's existence is to be the change that makes Ralph make the situation even worse
No, because I'm not pretending there weren't tons of treads whining about a gay rat wedding
>All the liberals left
Yea Forums is heavily left, anything that isn't directly left is considered /pol/ crossboarding and if enough people say that about a post it gets deleted
It was. I was talking about how using certain phrases sounded stupid. You deflected by saying “well you’re all mad about frog sex!” You seem to want to start an argument
*that makes Ed make the situation even worse
Very few. Most people weren’t even aware Arthur was out
I mean, that's sort of been Ralph/Rachel's place in the show from the very beginning. Her place in the story serving the plot and theme isn't a bad thing.
Way to revise history to suit your narrative
Sure pol tard
Way to be so butthurt about something minor that happened months ago.
Oh, I don’t think it was a bad thing. It would just be really easy to remove or censor.
Is he really?
>Way to be so butthurt about something minor that happened months ago.
But I'm not butthurt about the gay rat wedding, I'm not a republican.
Dont worry Rocko, this is common in the 21th century.
Post pics you niggers
Filburt is no cuck, he is a huge nazi, fucked a bunch of ladies on his birthday and is known for making porn videos with super models.
>Blargsnarf
Anybody else think it was kind of ironic when they criticized computer animation as being “cheap and passionless” when the entire moral was supposed to be about accepting change?
Not that I necessarily disagree, it just seemed to kinda flow against the theme.
Yup
>Filburt is no cuck, he is a huge nazi
aren't those the same thing
I enjoyed Rocko being the only one that didn't like the new fat heads because I was excited to come to Yea Forums and see everyone acting the exact same way.
>fucked a bunch of ladies on his birthday and is known for making porn videos with super models
I wonder if this special was Joe's way for apologizing for shit like that.
It was a bit of a low-blow, but it was done in an over-the-top way, so it didn't bother me much.
>Nickelodeon rebooting Rugrats with CGI babies in a live-action world
Feels more like a dig of reboots like that.
CGI pattion projects are a rarity, so i dint think so. Just look at lion king.
Here you go, degenerate scum
It’s weird, after I searched for and watched Twelve Forever, I keep getting it in my suggestions to watch again, but I couldn’t find it that first day and had to look for it. So I can’t tell if they’re suggesting it now because I already showed interest in it by watching, or if they were gonna for some reason wait til it’d been out a few days before suggesting it to me, and just not show it to me right at the immediate release time.
I don't think the problem was digital animation on the whole (The special itself uses that) but rather the shortcuts so many digital animators take these days.
it's about time we got bare female ass as a gag in a western cartoon.
>filburt is not a cuck
Nigger, he has a wife's son that's literally heffer
Is this Raj’s mom?
do you watch much animation? netflix generally tweaks its front page to match what you've been viewing. i barely use netflix for animation so i had to search for rocko.
Lazlo? Also bare female ass in a cartoon? Nice.
i mean there's meta-irony in that joke when you consider this special was made on computers. it was more getting at the people that exploit the shortcuts granted by digital animation.
user, the movie was made specifically to shit on people that are stuck in the 90's. Look what lazlo's relative is wearing.
Go fuck yourself, Anthony Burch.
>it was more getting at the people that exploit the shortcuts granted by digital animation
If people didn't use those shortcuts there would be no point to using digital.
Rachel is cute!
If they're used well, it's not always a problem. If used poorly, or too much, you get Johnny Test.
what happen to the girl next to rocko house? not the frog or the tranny one, the wallaby one
Melba? I'm not sure she was a wallaby, but I think she moved away while the show was still on.
Thanks man
She got a boyfriend, and Rocko had to move on. There was a whole episode about it. After that, they started introducing other female love interests like the mail lady and Sheila.
And yet people thought Rocko was gay?
I like her design. I'm glad she's not a bombshell, but she's not super ugly either. She looks like Ralph as a girl.
He kind of comes off a bit fey. It'd be interesting to see him get a male love interest, but I don't think they have the balls to do it with a main character.
Rocko coming to terms with being bisexual would actually be a more organic story arc than a 20 minute trans arc.
rocko is just vulnerable and neurotic. he crushed on a few girls during the series.
>Rocko coming to terms with being bisexual
That sounds like absolute bullshit, there's nothing to come to terms with. If you're somehow secretly bi then it doesn't matter because you can act 100% heterosexual without any inner conflict. I swear tumblr has poisoned the sexuality of millions of people if they're dumb enough to believe this crap.
It wasn't really Rachel's arc. It was Ed's. By the time we see Rachel she has long accepted and embraced it.
>the children with Filburt genes ended up being weirdos
>Hutchinson and Heffer's are doctors and such
lol
Not really. As a Bi myself, I can tell you that, in a bad environment, it can lead to a lot of confusion and inner conflict.
>you can act 100% heterosexual without any inner conflict
Well, unless there’s same-sex people in your life you want to date or be in a relationship with.
>wow way to be the exact thing the film was making fun of
Factually correct?
>It's to teach the audience a lesson.
I really don't need shows to do that for me.
didn't rocko touch on lgbt stuff before?
It's more ironic to me.
>omg get with the times you old loser
>40 years later
>NOOOOO STOP CHANGING THINGS STOP IT
>abe simpson talks about it.jpg
it had the whole clown episode
Oh boy more Rocko! I sure did love that show. I can't wait to w--
>Pro tranny propaganda and walking on eggshells around it with not a joke in sight
Oh. Thanks.
>Pro tranny propaganda
So, is any show with a trans character showed in a positive light "propaganda"?
>fey
Jesus fucking christ
Well, how would you describe it?
That was funny.
It's because of the rainbow joke at the end of the clown episode
I love Bighead's worried and concerned expression.
Movie was cute and had great animation, I enjoyed it. My only complaint was that it did feel a little crammed but I can't complain.
Unironically no. Been coming here for years and it always seemed like it was full of redditors.
I wish they had known during production that it was going to be on Netflix. They likely would have made it longer.
I like how Dr Hutch pulls her baby away.
I was waiting for them to make a meta joke about online streaming killing tv like most netflix original stuff does.
It's like they're asking for toddlercons to watch this
It wasn't made for Netflix
Still waiting for a mega for the nonhomophobic from the UK version.
Kind of makes sense that Ralph would become Rachel. He was having mental breakdowns from his work and eventually his mind collapsed. Which is consistent with how most trannies are mentally ill.
