Not a huge fan of this particular art, but I do like the concept of vents on the side of her outfit in the shape of tiger stripes. Something skintight is bound to get stuffy, esp while running around all night, so some breathability would be a plus.

But if you want to avoid this look, you can still make the thing look more comfortable from a breathability standpoint by adding vents on the side, legs, or arms. You could even give it more of a uniform look by making them of a different material from the main suit instead of just flesh revealing cutouts. Like if the main suit is black lambskin you could make the vents a breathable black spandex, so you get that black on black look.

The 2002 Cooke design is the best, it was easy to meddle with, as seen in Hush, Arkham and several other great runs, and made the most sense from a practical standpoint.
The Jones redesign is stupid, no NVGs, pits and wrists showing, nope. 90s one is silly too, the Sale one is alright, hate the tail, liked the Returns and BTAS looks, Rises, 66, pretty much anything with a cape, or is blue, green or furry is ridiculous.

I like JJ's costume as an alternate/back up. Selina would own more than one suit, and it makes sense she would slip into this one as a change. I do like the throwback to the Michelle Pfeiffer mask, and the pits are interesting (makes sense to a degree. Many modern gym outfits have incorporate what is essentially a ballet shrug, even if it doesn't make a ton of sense for a cat burglar), but the bared wrists are a bit much. All I can think of is sweat and blood leaving a trail of evidence.

I know there are a lot of different versions of Ivy, but the more I read about her, the more I'm convinced she's one of the more evil of Batman's villainesses. Catwoman has always had a good side to her (regardless of how a given author might play it up or not), Harley is just manipulated and insane, and Talia, while an international terrorist, still has a very strict moral code and vision.
But Ivy is basically just an amoral drug dealer, for whom people are disposable at best. I know back in the 90s they played up the whole environmentalist gone wrong angle, which just comes off as a little dated now, but in the end, she's more of a purveyor of narcotics and psychedelics than anything else.

I dig the long hair, but it's very much of the era. Balent draws her like a 90's supermodel, all with big hair, huge boobs, and mile long legs. In context, it works, but I prefer short hair/a more petite body type overall. As shows it's supposed to be reminiscent of 50's-60's Hollywood. It even plays up the connection between her and Audrey Hepburn/Holly Golightly, which makes a lot of sense narratively. Adam Hughes got that connection as we can see here.

I think that's what lowkey makes her one of the good guys. Before the comics code went into effect and there was a lot higher threshold for violence and murder in comics, catwoman was unique in that she *didn't* kill, even when the censors would let her get away with it. It's not really her MO. She's a thief, not a murderer, and I think she always tries to find her way out of these situations without killing, Black Mask being the notable exception of course.

But all of that I'm kind of okay with. It adds drama to their relationship. Unless you wanna go full Adam West, Bruce isn't a fully deputized member of the law enforcement. He's a vigilante - a criminal himself - who literally trains kids to be criminals just like himself. So when it comes to the legality of what he or someone like Selina does, it's not really that important. After all, grand larceny will get you roughly the same type of sentence aggravated battery will, so Batman isn't exactly in the place to be pointing fingers. I think, as he learns more of the reasons behind Selina's motivations, he softens on her. She still loves the score for its own sake, but she steals as a type of vengeance against those who have unjustly enriched themselves. I've seen their relationship compared to the one between Valjean and Javert, and I think it's apt. Selina never really steals from someone who doesn't deserve it in the end, so she believes in a type of justice, as Bruce does, which is why they get on in the end.

If she was justified in her actions as a thief because she only steal from those that unjustly enrich themselves, wouldn't she also being enriching herself in the process unjustly too, thus defeating the purpose of the very act? Otherwise she's not a very self-aware person. The only way to break the cycle then would be give back everything she stole to the rightful owners, but if she did that she would never make any profit.
It's all a very modern half-baked idea meant to make her look good. A very inconsistent one as well.

I think when you consider the idea of her growing up on the street as an orphan, it makes more sense. It's a raw act of cathartic vengeance to an extent, the same as with Batman. But like him, she has the ability to parlay it into something far more meaningful. Sure, she steals for selfish reasons. But she steals for unselfish ones too. Her relationship with Holly or other girls in shitty situations has been an element of her character since Frank Miller in the 80s. It's always been mixed motives with her, which is why it's interesting.

Honestly the real interesting way to spin their relationship isn't so much a conflict of values, but a conflict of approach. Selina arguably has a 25+ year sentence hanging over her head, and is essentially on the run as a wanted woman, which accounts for a degree of her antisocial behavior. Batman likely does too, but for whatever reason he's able to escape jail time bc of his own resources and his relationship with Gordon. Selina is conflicted bc taking up with Bruce would essentially mean she would be capitalizing on Bruce's own resources/connections to keep her ass out of jail. But doing so would offend her catlike need to always be independent. So how do you solve it? Do you just deus ex machina the problem away like Nolan did with the "clean slate" thing? Or do you engineer some deal with the fuzz to get her off the hook?
In the telltale game, you can just make Selina's pardon a condition of the deal with Waller at the end of the story, which is probably the most straightforward approach. But it still indicts Bruce as a "by the book" legalist to a degree. Which he never really was to begin with.

She wields the same power women in her situation have - she's clever, sophisticated, beautiful, and desirable, but also shares the same vulnerabilities as well - being alone, desperate almost to rise up in the world. She loves the thrill of the lifestyle, but also nurses its emptiness, which is a sign of her own insecurity. That, I think is what Bruce sees, and explains the tension between the two of them. Crime is what decides them, but her life of crime is only a sign of her deeper strength and vulnerability.

It does get a little overdone, but it's also so ubiquitous since Tim Burton made the black latex so popular that the look as become almost synonymous with the character, for better or worse. The real issue is that Selina is firmly entrenched in Batman's pulp/noir elements, and deviating too far from those elements really messes with the character. There is only so far you can take it before people start going, "Okay, but is it really Catwoman at this point?"

Honestly, you're right. That's why Hughes/Cooke/Brubaker's success was giving her depth by immersing her in the culture of the 50's/60's. Breakfast at Tiffany's, To Catch a Thief, How to Steal a Million, etc. There's aren't pulp/noir, but they are lighter, more fun take that fits aesthetically with the character by pushing things out a decade or so beyond the 30's/40's when the pulps were most popular. It inevitably takes things more into a romcom-y area, which I think has been done to a certain degree of success honestly. The focus is less on Catwoman as a supervillain and more on Selina Kyle as a character.

Selina will always be built more like a dancer or ballerina, regardless of the height she's drawn at. Thinner, more lithe arms and legs, smaller waist, while still being lean and muscular.
