What B-lister could have launched the DCEU if Warner hadn't gone straight for Batman and Superman?
The MCU was launched by a B-lister

The obvious choice.
The had their bets on Green Lantern but we all know how that worked out.
Wonder Woman
Flash
Shazam
>B-Lister
lol. Iron Man was straight C, it's funny how people think he was a lot more popular than he really was nowadays
RDJ is what made it happen. It would have to be a character with personality that an actor with charisma could play. Since DC doesn't really have any characters with personality and I can't think of any other actors with the charisma of RDJ, I can think of no one.
>Iron Man was straight C
He became a B-lister after Extremis
Then who would you consider B-list? Assuming A-listers were Spider-Man, Hulk or Wolverine.
>2
If RDJ was cast as Booster Gold or someone where he could allow his personality to shine, maybe DC wins.
>Implying comics' Iron Man had "personality"
Daredevil , Doctor Strange, Punisher
His movie is never getting made, is it?
Nope, sorry, before the MCU Doctor Strange was not more popular than Iron Man.
It will be made eventually, but it won't be good.
>Doctor Strange
At least normies vaguely knew who Iron Man was lmfao
>Doctor Strange literally had his own comic while Iron Man was avengers only
LOL dumb zoomers
iron man had his own solo animated series in the 90s
checkmate, faggot
Aquachad
So did The Tick. Doesn't make him an B-lister superhero.
Iron Man never even had his own lunch box.
Spidey, Hulk, even Thor and Cap had their own lunch box.
Iron Man didn't tho.
Strange didn't either, for that matter.
>James bond esque espionage book with heavy theme of Coporate culture
>No personality
Thank God summer will be over soon
Bro
U R me. I’ve been telling people for years this exact thing. If you told kid me that the tincanman movie would make more money then one about a space cop who’s powers are only limited by his imagination, i’d call you stupid. there’s no way dc is that incompetent.
Had they opened with either, I could see reception to DC being much more positive. Too bad we got Man of Steel which had all the appeal of bran cereal
Based plastic man
All of those movies were shit tho, so,
Dream on.
>Iron Man was Avengers only
??? Iron Man has had a solo series since he split from Tales of Suspense
Aquaman or Shazam.
How f****** stupid are you shut the f****** get off my board and stay f****** gone
I can't stand stupid f****** newfag f****** summer packets
Time to stop posting for the night,
Drunk.
As much as I also want that, a live action Plastic Man movie would be terrifying. Just give him to the Spider-Verse/Lego Batman guys.
Blonde anglo Aquaman.
>implying you read comics at all
>implying you even read
He used to be an A lister
no
Yes
What if instead of launching modern dc they used the JSA
>What B-lister could have launched the DCEU if Warner hadn't gone straight for Batman and Superman?
they basically had to restart with their b-lister after screwing up both superman and batman.
the success of the dark knight unfortunately put them on the wrong foot
Aside from the comics, kids back then also were familiar with Iron Man from:
I followed the entirety of the MCU until now without watching a single Iron Man movie, and generally loathing his presence in the other movies... So for me it was definitely NOT him the reason I watched them.
Though one thing's for sure: I got into the MCU through C-lists (Guardians of the Galaxy), so the appeal of unknown characters in a big shared universe was definitely there.
Presumably he also probably got a boost in recognizability after the black sabbath song even though it only used the name and had nothing to do with the comics.
I think in terms of what DC should've done they honestly should've started with wonder woman she's obviously not a c lister but since arvel wa in the full swing of things at the time it would've been the best start for their universe.
S-list: everyone knows them, cultural icon (batman, sup)
A-list: well known in other mass media (cartoon, movies) beside comic (wolverine, spider, xavier, erik)
b-list: well known in comic fandom (Cap and Iron before MCU)
c-list: even people who read comic doesn't know them. (most x-men beside the core team)
Booster Gold.
He had an animated series, albeit a bad one, that established him in the minds of non-comic-reading audiences. People were vaguely aware that he exists, which elevates him to a b-lister
>Doctor Strange
Top kek
Darewho
>Punisher
I don't think even people who saw the movies at the time knew he was from the comics.
>man who builds his own flying robot suit
>guy who can make a big green fist whose weakness is yellow
Yeah, The Tick is a straight up A-lister
Go with Legion of Super Heroes. Just make a clean break of the other films and actually try to make it not shit. Use Mano as the villain and set things up for a possible sequel with the Legion of Super Villains. Lay the silliness right out there.
Holy shit, Yea Forums not reading comics really isn't just a meme
Not a bad idea but some characters from that are completely gone
Don't forget he was a staple in the Capcom fighting games, which were extremely popular in the mid '90s to early '00s.
Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds should have been a garaunteed opening for the DCEU. It shoulda been it.
The movie was just terrible though and it wasn't even Ryan's fault he was given a terrible screenplay and an awful suit. Sinestro was fucking perfect man.
But they could have had a similar solid opener with a "Blue Beetle: Blue and Gold" movie starring Paul Rudd as Ted and Ryan Reynolds as Booster instead. Make it a story of Blue Beetles debut and how he meets Booster. A present day Booster from about 5 years after meeting Ted accidentally time travels back in time to when Ted is supposed to become the Blue Beetle but realizes somethings wrong and that Ted isn't on course for the course of events he remembers. So he has to fix history and find out who's altered the past in the first place. He tries to do it without Ted knowing but inadvertently has to become friends with him early and make him into Blue Beetle. Future Booster would return to his own time at the end and we'd get some montage footage of the 5 years of Ted kicking ass as Blue Beetle leading into the scene of Ted meeting Booster for the "first time" at a Justice League recruitment meeting. Blue Beetle 2 would take place in one of the 5 years and only feature Booster very lightly. Plenty of set up for the rest of the DCEU.
Green Lantern or Sandman
I thought War Machine was usually in those games instead of iron man, at least it was like that in all the arcades near me.
I realized it's a little confusing how I use 5 year gaps twice like that, I'm stoned and just writing off the top of my head. But essentially Ted would be Blue Beetle for a few years before meeting Booster and then future poster would be from just ahead of present day which would be like 5 years after which teases when the JL will form after the A listers get their movies
>Doctor Strange
this, I mean I thought Iron man wasnt as popular in the 90s, but having a B lister is probably the best way to launch a series. the top heroes get too much attention they over shadow the world around them.
they had so many opportunities too, infact they have flash point but instead of turning DCU into super bro comics, they use Flash Point to fix it to the original cannon. Not only does this make a bold move saying they arent going back to what was made they pretty much fix the lore.
Wonder woman
nah we had to go straight to justice league to compete with infinity war.
personally I'd prefer an Aquaman and Wonder Woman movie with them flying in an invisible jet and constantly getting shit for how useless they are.
the other appeal of iron man was that he was a human and not an edge-lord. Most of Marvel's characters are super science based, where as DC characters are virtually descended from some sort of god.
Iron Man hadn't really had much in the way of mainstream popularity since the mid-'80s, but was still somewhat well-known in the '90s and '00s thanks to his animated series and Marvel vs Capcom. Before his MCU debut, Doctor Strange was a pretty C-tier character who hadn't really seen any success since the late '80s.
DC was too busy with Nolanverse during MCU boom. Warner was so incompetent because they had several executives snipe one another, which lead to the GL film, Man of Steel, and Justice League movies. WW, Shazam, & Aquaman were all decent to good movies. If WW had lead the DCEU followed by Aquaman, I think we could've seen DCEU compete against MCU.
None. DC's b and c listers are awful. Nobody wants to watch Guardian or Huntress doing anything.
They should have just put effort into making GL good.
bump
Are the Teen Titans B-list, or are they A-list due to cartoon overexposure? Because you know if DC went with a lighter tone normies would sign the fuck up for a Robin-Starfire-Raven-Cyborg-Beast Boy team.
SHUT UP! THE DCEU WAS PERFECT ALREADY WITH BATMAN AND SUPERMAN!
It's just that the movies today can't compare to the genius of Zack Snyder and so they make stupid ass movies. If JL wasn't currupted by WB it would have made people forget about Marvel.
#releasethesnydercut
This but I'd argue that spiderman is S list then.
He definitely wasn't C list at all.
Thank you for mentioning a weakness he stopped having since the end of the silver age
Booster Gold
>another green lantern movie
No
Isn't David Goyer still attached to "write" the Green Lantern movie?
What could go wrong there?
>Iron Man never even had his own lunch box.
Are you saying RDJ was a b-lister or that Iron Man was a b-lister?
They chose the wrong Lantern. Grizzled war vet John Stewart would have resonated better with audiences. Iron Man did as well as it did partly because of the way it handled the inevitable intersection of a movie about a humanoid weapon and the zeitgeist.
Reynolds was as poor a choice for Hal as he was for a Pikachu.
Following up on : Denzel or Idris.
This has me thinking; how many bombs has Ryan Reynolds made for WB?
One would not have any interest, and the other is getting pretty overexposed in the genre.
This was a decade ago, though. Denzel probs would have said no, but if anyone could have originated a compelling Green Lantern that got audiences interested, it would be him.
Is there something wrong with you?
I'm actually shocked how badly used is Idris Elba generally
I wish I could say for certain this is all bait but I know there's genuine retards out there with this exact mindset.
The answer is Green Lantern. They tried with him. Remember, that was suppose to be the launch of their shared universe. They stuck in things like John Stewart and Waller to expand on later. Unfortunately it was shit and bombed.
>Everything has to be interconnected with 50 movies and 10 spin-off TV shows.
Fuck outta here. I want Snyder's original Man of Steel trilogy.
