I really don't like this. I can tell the writer really likes the character, but just doesn't "get it" like Hastings wrote her.

This page has proven that only Hastings can write Gwenpool.

Hastings makes things weird but actually tells a good story. The story runs on absurd logic, but its a fairly consistent absurdity and it gets played for humor.

This is just... flailing at the reader trying to come off as quirky. There's some good material there, but they don't seem to know how to cultivate it so they are just doing it all rapid-fire in the hopes something will stick.

It's issue one and it's spending a bunch of time reintroducing a relatively fringe character for people not already familiar with her

They've all based their own Gwen on whatever they've heard from press releases or editorial blurbs, which were always wrong and only pushed the "Gwen Stacey wannabe deadpool" rubbish that everyone who hasn't read the original run thinks her character is. Plus spouting memes and doing fornite dances is completely out of character for her.

They're not reintroducing her, they are reimagining her based on the current writer's idea of who the established character was or who they want her to be. The other problem is that the current writer even said she was going to be true to the character as she was in the original Hastings run. Clearly that was all bullshit to get the few people who have a fuck about the character to buy it.

She got over that by the end of her series though. There was even a big arc about it where they spent issues talking about it and her realizing the path she was going down and rejecting it.

Aside from the flossing and dabbing, it looks good to me. It's obviously a reintroduction because, as you well know, her last ongoing was two years ago, and as a fringe character as she is, she needs to stay fresh in the mind of the readers... And considering there's STILL a lot of people who ask shit like "so what's the deal with Gwenpool?", it's necessary. Keep that in mind folks, Yea Forums is not the entire scene.
Anyway, some parts of it were funny so I'm gonna follow it for sure. I'm a fan and I've been asking for an omnibus for quite a while too, so it's not like I don't know how she's supposed to act.

Her powers probably don't really "count" because they're externally granted. She seems to be trying to get powers that are explainable in-universe. Probably something easily memeable, given how memey she is on these pages. Lol memes.

Yeah, I'll give it a go. I think Williams is a better writer than most of Yea Forums says, and I generally don't care about changes between character continuities, preferring to take each creator as a discrete story, but I just am not sure if this will be a story that I enjoy.

Stories about low tier super villains are fun. Her meta knowledge gives her an interesting edge which could be enjoyable to explore. You could emphasize the fact that the character was very unhappy in the real world and have them go through an arc where they realize that the only way they, as an average person without powers, can be part of the super world is to continuously escalate their activities as a villain or in the very least a mercenary but turning away from that path might mean that they have to face enduring a normal life again.

Honestly the Gurihiru artwork MADE Gwenpool. Without them the "quirky randumb" humor got stale right after the Bendis joke, before the Hastings series even started. Gurihiru made the jokes sing.

WCA did have Gwen try to walk out of the panels in one of the first issues, only for her to realize that he'd been hit with a soft reboot that nerfed her. She was using her full powers in the Spider-man and Deadpool arc where they had to fight against the fourth wall, so it was only WCA where she was nerfed.

They're not real people though. It's like killing an NPC in vidya.
