I don't think the powers really have any rules.
I think the powers at least conform to the desires of its users. Like how Reggie is socially and physically weak, it makes sense she'll be super strong, or how the child she babysit was shy, which would make invisibility right for him.
Some of them make sense but Transformation and summoning a flying planet with ropes don't seem to relate to much of anything.
It is somewhat usual that Ester's powers just sort of happen to be very useful for the exact scenario she was in. Todd is a little weird though.
Maybe the powers manifest as just whatever they want or really need at the moment and they're just stuck with that forever.

Since that's how they ended the first season (flash of light in the distance, probably from a different island) I think that's definitely how they'd start a second season, exploring different islands. I'd hope season 2 brings more development for Reggie, and while not bringing her to the realization that Endless is unhealthy for her maturity, but taking her closer to that edge.

I don't know about that last part. If what Regina's mom said indicated anything, he's still very much in the real world. I think he'll be more of a presence in the real world, like a villain of sorts. Like, he's not evil like the Butt Witch, or evil in general, but he still presents a possible route Regina may go down if she doesn't start growing up.
Maybe the show will transition of a tropical theme to something more inland, like a forest.

The more I listened to Butt Witch in the show, the less it sounded like a man and ended out being more like a very mature woman.
I like her being a wild card. Netural evil. I can even see her helping Twelve if their goals happen to coincide. I'm always the trope of the hero teaming up with the villain to beat an even worse guy, which I hope happens in this series.

Yeah, that's the idea. We sorta already have that with Reggie's dad, who's implied to be a manchild. Maybe it would be Shane.
There should have been more episodes about BW corrupting the islanders.
Maybe next season, we'll see her corruption power become more prominent. That can help bring in a monster-a-week kind of scenario.
Perhaps in the second second season, there'll be a badder villain that the witch would come to work under, to raise the stakes.
She doesn't want to make her mom think she ran away. That's why she made up a fake story about going to some camp so she could spend Spring Break in Endless before her appendix busting. She doesn't go to school because she wants to, it's where her mom expects her to be.
It should also be noted that Tomoko is slightly older than Reggie and more "normal" back when she was in middle school when she had a small circle of friends. Maybe Tomoko would have never have gone on a personal quest to become popular if she got access to a Endless and had all these weird little creatures to constantly praise and fawn over her.
And maybe without Endless and after being separated from her friends, Reggie would have become more sullen and socially maladjusted like Tomoko.

Todd and Esther told her they went crazy after a day, and Reggie didn't seem to hint that she'd even stayed that long herself, just boasted that she's awesome and wouldn't go crazy. Kinda surprises me that she's never just spent the weekend there under the guise of staying at Esther's place.

It's interesting. It's part Hey Arnold, part Adventure Time. It's clearly about having to grow up, and there's the whimsical allegory of Endless, contrasted with the drab colors but emotional heavy reality of, well, reality. No matter how much the main character wants to stay Twelve Forever, the fabric of the show is that duality, and how the one influences the other, and vice versa. Reggie doesn;t want to grow up, seeks to escape growing up by seeking refuge in Endless, but it's those experiences there that actually cause her to grow up.

Other anons have pointed, maybe even inside this very thread too, but its probable that most of the islanders being pretty incompetent likely has to do something with Regina being pretty emotional immature herself. Since she desires respect and to be loved, Endless made the islanders even more childish in order to facilitate that.
Just watched season 1 in one go, the show started slow but kind of grew on me.
The Endless realm seems to have a sinister will of it's own that feeds on people's emotions and drives them to madness.
That kid who got stuck in there since 1955 became doll like and totally insane.
BW was a decent starting antagonist being an emotion eater chaotic evil beast but the dimension itself is evil and provided her with worms to feed.
The maturity journey of the protagonists is very contrasting as both Todd and Esther move foward like normal people while Reggie tries to remain a child as life forces her to grow up.
My guess is that the nasty side of Endless will become more proeminent the more the characters grow up as wathever abomination runs the place struggles to ensnare the minds of it's prey.
Think other villains aside from the witch would come along?

A authoritarian leader would be a great next stage. As opposed to the deplorable outcast that the Butt Witch is (or was), the heroes would need to play on the defense against a villain with manpower. Not to insinuate the Butt Witch wasn't a good villain, but she needed to use underhanded scheming and vile spells to help fight against her more physically aggressive foes, (least until the finale.) while playing on their turf. Having the trio play by the someone's rules would be grand.
