Why do some cartoons today look so bad? Some shows look so bad that I feel like I'm watching a cartoon made for newgrounds
why does this happen

OK KO is ending and I get the feeling he will just wake up from a dream
Wait wait op, I’m going to use an reply that people love to say to excuse bad art styles
>it’s supposed to look bad
looks better than the flinstones or the jetsons
The Flintstones and the Jetsons barely count as animation but if you think OP looks better than either you're fucking delusional
Newgrounds is where a lot of animators honed their skill before they grew up and started animating for tv shows
This, sadly.
Do you even know how much work and money goes into animation. We should all be grateful for shows like OK KO.
Only happens in CN
Ironically some crappy cartoons made by Brazilians have more quality than Cartoon Network
Like buzzu
They're mass produced in India/Korea and people working on them don't really know what they're doing
There's a reason why that Steven Universe episode which had a Japanese guy as animation director looked so good compared to the rest of the show
Time and resources that could be better invested elsewhere, and it looks like Cartoon Network also shares this sentiment since the show got cancelled.
Most of that episode was by the crew. His involvement was limited to a couple of scenes.
>why that Steven Universe episode which had a Japanese guy as animation director looked so good compared to the rest of the show
wait what episode
blame cal arts for giving the talentless jobs
Mindful Education
Because you know nothing of the animation process. Studios pay for this over expensive movie tier animation because one make them more money. You're stealing the content anyway so you have no right to complain
Looks terribad
It's amazing how obsessively some people here hate this show.
It's proof that we live in a golden era of peace and prosperity, as that's the only kind of problem that matters for those obsessed people spending their time on the internet.
>Two shows (Steven Universe and OK K.O.) speak for the entire channel
Because CalArts teaches a low-effort and low-cost style that network bean counters love. This is why you see better animation on streaming services where the show in question is "owned" by the service. Young Justice is a prime example, as are a few of the shows on netflix and hulu.
>CalArts teaches a low-effort and low-cost style
While that's true, is it really fair to blame it all on Calarts?
Fosters home, powerpuff girls, billy mandy, and even samurai jack used calarts. all those shows look acceptable for the most par t
just look at it.
>Powerpuff girls
It's easy to animate when your main characters don't have hands and your backgrounds usually look simple like this
Looks great to me, esp the full episode in motion.
that's like 3 characters
Unironically that was K.O.'s best animated episode in years.
Foster's also had incredibly limited animation most of the time, and yet no one ever gave it shit. Meanwhile, Adventure Time had actual, proper, frame-by-frame animation, and it got tons of shit. Turns out, most of the people complaining about animation don't know fucking anything about it and just whinge about how it looks to their limited sensibilities. If you ever see someone scream about something being off-model, there's a really good chance that he's a moron. Really wish they'd all just fuck off already so we could stop having this thread. There's so much that goes into the look of a cartoon these days that it's not only pointless, but ridiculous, to complain about random bits and pieces that stick out to you as "bad". OK KO is not poorly animated, it just plays fast and loose with the looks of its characters. Johnny Test is poorly animated because it's just a bunch of computer-animated squash&stretch with tons of tweening.
Money mainly. Some studios usually do them cheap, and then if it gets good, along with merchandising sales, they can add more money to make it better
Remember, young kids are the target. So they have to spend less on shows for them to get attention, and then they can spend more if its good
The OK K.O hate on Yea Forums baffles me to no end. I can understand Summer Camp Island because that ACTUALLY looks fucking disgusting and even We Bare Bears because it's pretty dull if inoffensive, but this? I just don't get it.
Yeah but they're on screen the most. You can do more with them when you don't have to animate hands which are pretty hard in animation from what I've heard.
Takafumi Hori is still pretty tame compared to other directors working at Trigger desu.
Fucking thank you user
And we really don't have the funds for a France/Japan tag team like we did in the '80s
It’s always about how
>it looks ugly
>the references are stupid and make it unoriginal
Here's a sonic by someone that made stuff for newground
>Why do some cartoons today look so bad
People don't understand the difference between being out of standard proportion for emphasis and being off model
I can’t blame them considering that OK KO seems to always look off-model.
>by someone
Max gilardi
i get it Yea Forums
you hate the show
the show is off model
the show looks bad
what you guys never tell me is:
what do you think of the plot?
what do you think of the characters?
what do you think of the setting?
what do you think of A N Y episode that isn't that one gun episode you obviously watched?
Wasn't Parker Simmons a Newgrounds animator
Yeah, he made the Dr Mario video.
Being crap on purpose isn’t an excuse for being crap
At this point I’ve seen more OK KO hate than people who seem to genuinely like the show
What modern CN shows have good animation?
I can't think of a single one.
Is Young Justice still on CN? Last time I watched that they turned it into relationship drama for little girls and faggots since the west can't do action shows anymore.
That's because the Sonic crossover brought in the fucking Yea Forumsfags so it's nothing but shitposting. The hatefags from this board also bandwagoned aka the one person who keeps spamming his season 1 """comparisons""".
So when OK KO is over, what will be the next show for anons to obsessively hate over?
Young Justice was always about relationship drama.
It's going to be Steven Universe, even though it won't be Yea Forums shitting on it since the majority admittedly love the show.
>ITT seething OK KO fags mad that their crappy little crayon-drawing of an excuse for a cartoon is getting called out
Good
>109214920
not even worth a (You)
Not seetihing, nut the show is good.
there's like 3 OK KO threads, stick to one and stop grabbing slots from other threads that deserve it.
animating on limited frames/with digital tools is it's own skill. Maybe people prefer a put together looking product with some quality control to occasionally over-animated board driven unnecessarily off model
arthouse crap?
I'll give the (you)
>put together looking product with quality control
>other user mentions adventure time
youtu.be
You can't really compare the likes of Hotdiggedydemon and Harry partridge to whoever intern pitches the new shows at CN
