First of all, I'd tell you to go check out /ic/'s sticky. Next, The Animator's Survival Kit is the most important book for this. Some Preston Blair also helps. A couple of youtube videos out there can help you out with how to animate in specific digital programs.

what kind of dumbass question is that
get better at drawing

>shit at everything
>want to get into animating
literally me

not OP, I just got ASK a few days ago to learn how to animate porn gotta stop at the roots
You dont know how many of my fellow animation students dont know how to draw my dude

>have no legs
>want to get into football
Where do I start?

>to animate porn
When I was a kid with a DSi and hatena I would animate porn and delete it afterwards. I haven't bought ASK (which I had a physical book) but my constant demotivation in animation has severely stunted me. I can barely animate now. Don't give up, user!

i guess you could be the football

Practice with a pencil and notebook, just draw things you like until you make them good

OP, do not stop drawing. Even if you're shit. You have to continue. Do not stop. Don't stop animating either like said. Creative works aren't like riding a bicycle; you have to continue or you'll get rusty and that'll be it.

Get better at drawing first, then move into animation

You’ve already drawn a great self-portrait

Practice, practice and more practice

but that's not op it's literally me

learn to draw. by draw I dont mean "draw people" or "draw cartoon characters", i mean convey forms and volumes on paper. drawing is all about conveying 3d objects in a 2d medium, if you can do that it doesnt matter if your understanding of the subject you are drawing is incomplete, the result will be readable. that's why many great artists loose sketches look so much better than polished trash by amateurs. The ability to do this is absolutely necessary for animation, as you need a complete understanding of the scene in your head if you want to do anything beyond pivot stuff. Read the animators survival guide and the illusion of life like other anons have recommended, but if you are just starting out id recommend mabye the drawabox tutorials online. you have have a very, very long road ahead of you but its pretty rewarding once things start coming together.

bump

Make a concept with a built in self defence like lgbt stuff. Then it won't matter how bad you are at drawing.

Did you draw that pic? Because that’s a pretty accurate photo of me.

>Where do I start?
NGMI

You can animate without drawing. It's called 3D.

MrEnter?

>shit at everything
>want to get into anything
>literally just want to enjoy or be good at anything

the only people taking animation as a career are those who literally aren't good at anything else

the difference between you and the people working in animation is that they had rich parents

Judging by current CN and Disney lineup you're good to go.

If you're still here OP, here's something to help you out

Don't let that stop you, OP.

Seriously please learn to draw before attempting animation of any kind.

My company had one 2D animator who couldn't draw and as a result couldn't handle the 2D character rigs we were using at the time. As Animation Lead I almost went insane, his grasp on perspective was so basic that we could only give him menial tasks and both sides felt absolutely miserable because there was no way for him to improve. He was genuinely interested in animation and knew all the theory, but couldn't apply it at all. It was heartbreaking.

Company eventually had lay-offs and I lost one of my best animators because the CEO wanted this guy to stay instead (he loved him, or rather his naive loyalty). Haunts me to this day.

Get good

no problem, but you can you stop posting pictures of me?

Just keep drawing every single day. Getting good at drawing is something that takes up a lot of your time, so if you don't enjoy drawing for hours every day even if all your work turns out bad, then this probably isn't the right career path for you.
