Sure! reposting july stuff but not the shelves just yet.

>What’s your favorite non-cape book?

Daytripper by Moon and Bá, I feel very bias as it is a very latam story, but also I love it because how it deals with death and how one doenst just exist in oneself but in those he has drinks with, has had sex with, has had fights with, those that just remember us.

Couple epics coming out this month but aside from that I'll probably just get some horror lit adaptations

I looked up the art and was sold on it, looking forward to the read. Thanks user

Did that marvel horror collection come out already?

I have a decent copy of Hulk #168 coming in the mail soon

Attached: Hulk 168 Harpy.jpg (1006x1481, 331K)

That wasn't the one I was thinking of, I'm planning on getting Corben's book of Poe comics and Wrightson's Frankenstein: Alive, Alive

>Wrightson's Frankenstein: Alive, Alive
Based as fuck user, I own it and am very proud of that buy. Half way thinking of purchasing the book with his illustrations

Bring tissues.
The Absolute might actually come out this year. I think it just has the contents of the old deluxe HC though.

Reposting today's delivery, I was thinking of getting the Planetary Omni next but honestly I might wanna finish Delano's Hellblazer first

>Thread Question
What’s your favorite non-cape book?
I have a couple Hey Wait... By Jason is something I never get tired of reading I love how many emotions it can evoke with such a minimalist style, I also really like the entire EC horror line even the not so good stories are an absolute treat and lastly a Mexican newspaper strip called Buba, it's mostly bits of poetry illustrated and the occasional political satire

Attached: _20190807_141931.jpg (2448x2152, 765K)

>What’s your favorite non-cape book?
Savage Sword of Conan by Roy Thomas

Where’s a good place to start with Conan? Should I try from the beginning or just jump in

I keep getting variants bc that's all my store has left for HoXPoX but they're good Storm drawings so it's ok

Non cape Jaime's Love and Rockets.

You can jump in with Aaron's run but I really think you should read the Roy Thomas stuff on Savage Sword and Barbarian.

Are the new omnis recolored?

No

My favorite non cape is Y the Last Man, Admittedly I have yet to branch out far past the big two

Attached: CCF88EBD-EA3D-4E8E-B950-0FB9AB12D856.jpg (1714x2560, 490K)

Neat, I love the black and white look, I was trying to get the original mexican reprints from the 80's and 90's but honestly the size is really hard to read.

WHY AREN'T MY DOCTOR STRANGE OMNIS HERE YET AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Did you order from instocktrades? I swear they take the longest for any shipments

Just bought Flinch book 1/2 from vertigo. Seen them at my local regular bookstore for 5 quid each.

>favourite non-cape comic
Probably Judge Dredd.

I don't really read much capes though. The majority of my collection are non-capes, mainly from DC 'alternative' lines and 2000AD though so I'm not exactly experimental in my reading.

Is rebirth superman worth reading?

I haven't read much superman outside of Superman Adventures, All star and that digital first series back in like '13.

>in order to finish Delano's hellblazer you need to buy dnagerous habbits which starts Ennis run.

It's not a major issue, I like Ennis run, just would have been nice to have Delano's run in one complete singular set (with the morrison, gaimen fillers obviously).

In addition to the 11 epic collections I won for $70 off Yahoo Auctions Jp, I also got Bone & Sandman Dream Hunters for $4.

I also won a lot of Airboy off eBay (the previous complete set I bought came without any bags and boards, and the latter half of the series was bent to hell). I plan on getting this series custom bound whenever I stop back off in America. It's a beauty to read.

Either Cerebus or Moonshadow for me. Both are excellent justifications for why comics exist as a visual medium.

Attached: s-l1600.jpg (1590x1070, 492K)

waiting for that one as well. Not entirely sure whether I'll pick him up this year though but he's definitely on my list as I have no intentions of buying an overpriced Absolute and as I already have the Kingdom Come Deluxe

pretty nice. why are you in Japan though? work-related or love-related (or both)?

Manage a test prep cram school, hoping to leverage textbook writing into publishing experience. Living with local girl for the past four years and robably getting married just because she accepts my collector habits - she's aware I have ~10,000 floppies back at my parent's place in America.

Deciding whether they're worth selling in America, keeping for the long-term in case I move back, or shipping to Japan over time is stressful when you share an entire apartment the size of my childhood bedroom.

Anyways, $1 manga I'm currently reading.

Attached: DSC_0588.jpg (2304x1296, 1.33M)

repostin. Just finished Legion. Really liked it, I enjoyed picking out some of the same ideas the show is working with. Even though the show is very different they work with some of the same core ideas.

>What’s your favorite non-cape book?
all my fav books are non-capes
>Kabuki
>Ring of the Nibelungs
>Requiem Vampire Knight
>Shame
and only 2/3rds through it but I'm sure Alpha will but on my top 5 favorite comics. Absolutely love this book

ah, I remember you. Is your salary decent? I think I never asked. Thought about taking a few months off in China and just teaching kids English because the payment over there is pretty neat but I've got a full-time job in a whole other field so that's probably a big nope (unless I get fired)

Moon and Bá are great, their adaptation of Dois Irmãos is great with it's use of lighting that really enhances the atmosphere of the story.

I'm also the one advocating for binding comics 80% of the time. Bit of a broken record really.

The salary is decent if you adjust to living like a local. Those who try to live the same sort of lifestyle without making adjustments are bound to suffer financially. Time off in a foreign country is worth it though, just to expand your perspective, but I recommend having an exit strategy handy because it's easy to let the honeymoon phase of culture shock trap you into becoming a balding 40 year old with kids who can't understand you and a career specializing in singing the ABC song in between hangovers.

>I'm also the one advocating for binding comics 80% of the time
apart from the gutter loss which I assume is prevalent when doing the binding of floppies, I have zero issue with that. Call me an asshole but I think it's stupid to have huge plastic boxes for every goddamn issue that features SOMEONE'S first appearance. The medium is for reading so I'd rather have someone who binds Action Comics #1 into a huge Omni instead of some autist who keeps it in a box forever

>but I recommend having an exit strategy handy because it's easy to let the honeymoon phase of culture shock trap you into becoming a balding 40 year old with kids who can't understand you and a career specializing in singing the ABC song in between hangovers
There's no point in living in Asia forever in my eyes but a few years would be great. I had the time of my life in Asia so naturally, I'd love to live there for a while. Unfortunately, it's just not sustainable and leaving all family and friends behind would be shitty as well

cringe

what's wrong with the guy liking Batman? at least he's true to his favourite character

No place for this in /shelf/

Did those reprints of The Boys get cancelled or something? Had my orders refunded for the first two books.

What are you? shelf's gatekeeper? fuck off.

ok

And who are you? Doctor Supreme taste?

>in order to finish Delano's hellblazer you need to buy dnagerous habbits which starts Ennis run.

Yeah I hate that, I already have a trade of Dangerous Habits and I wouldn't mind double dipping if it wasn't for the fact that Ennis run is the more likely to get an Omni or a deluxe edition of some sort which I would be really tempted to get.

>posting childish comments like "cringe" in the one thread where people talk like actual human beings 99% of the time

you must be new here. It's alright, you're gonna learn today

What are some essential DC Vertigo books I should get apart from sandman?

The only vertigo books I have are volume 1 of alan Moores swamp thing and the first 2 volumes of grant doom patrol

Attached: vertigo-logo.png (375x210, 6K)

When they reintroduced the post crisis-Pre flashpoint Clark and Lois after convergence I grabbed the book Lois and Clark and it caught me with it's family stuff at the same time with the idea of a more level headed Superman. I say at least that the Lois and Clark trade is good to see if you are interested in that dinamic.

Can anyone recommend me a good sci-fi story with a similar tone and approach to Hyperion?

Hey Yea Forums, maybe y'all can answer me a question. I just ordered Bad Gateway, as I have been getting each of the Megg, Mogg, & Owl Fantagraphics collections as they've been coming out. However, when looking up a review of it, I saw someone list it as the fifth collection Hanselmann's released of MM&O, not the fourth. Amazon has a listing for this book I haven't heard of before, Hail Satan!, and I was just wondering if anyone knew what the story behind it was. This seems to be the only listing to purchase it I can find. Is it content already collected in Megahex/OMY/Amsterdam?

Link related. amazon.com/gp/product/8416167338/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_taft_p1_i4

Also, total non-sequitur, i'm so fucking happy Dark Horse's Berserk Deluxe editions have been doing very well. I NEED them to survive long enough to get the whole series in this format, it's just too perfect for Miura's art.

Attached: 81lnNzQ9VCL.jpg (1312x1647, 450K)

FUGG :'-D

Oooh, I didn't know Corben did a collection of Poe stories. Which ones did he adapt?

Fuck that's a tough question. I love a lot of non-cape stuff. Lucifer is really good, Hellboy is awesome, Cerebus, etc., etc., but I think I might have to go with Grendel. Especially Wagner's collaboration short stories. It just does a wonderful job of hitting so many genres, and is a great showcase of tons of unique art styles and A++ color work by Dave Stewart.

Spurrier's X-Men Legacy is the best X-Book between X-Statix and Hick-Men, and was what turned me on to him as a writer to follow. Dude has put out awesome work and Legacy is among the best of it, imho. It would've been incredible if Mike Del Mundo had done interiors as well as covers, but alas.

>Ennis run is the more likely to get an Omni or a deluxe edition of some sort which I would be really tempted to get.
It's been solicited. It contains literally just Ennis' issues, so it skips the random Smith issue and then adds his later arc from post-Jenkins

Recent buys. The Marvel Decades book is much thinner than I thought it would be.

a couple of books arrived yesterday but i'm too tired to take pictures now

Does that "JSA by Johns" book contain the very start of the volume by Robinson?

Collects JSA (1999-2006) #1-15 and JSA Secret Files (1999-2001) #1. I think it's the same content as the omnibus just mapped a little bit differently.

Very odd that they don't have Robinson as billing on the cover then. He co-wrote 1-5 with Goyer, but I guess because Goyer was there for the entire trade he gets billed instead

user this is a blue board

Latest. I have most of Rick Veitch's works now. The One was super good. I'm glad I got the original issues because the hardcover collection from IDW are a shit recolor.

Arsene Schrauwen, Blood of the Virgin, or Pretending is Lying maybe. I'm bad at picking favorites

Is there any great advantage getting this over the trades?

Manhattan Projects was so fucking good. RIP

Advantage: All of Ennis is one place. Ennis and Delano share one trade, so you would need to buy the end of Delano's run to get the start of Ennis'. Plus, Ennis ignored all of Delano's plot lines, so this thing can be mostly read just by itself.
Disadvantage: it is literally just Ennis, so if you are an eventual completionist, you would have to double up a few trades to collect all of Hellblazer. There's also no sign that they will continue with omni's of other writers, so the trades will continue to be "complete"

Pickups from ncbd, all really solid. Also picked up the Deadshot mini my LCS had for $4 after seeing some anons in here talk about it, damn it’s just as good as Suicide Squad and kinda makes me wish more characters from that run got minis to expand on them.

Attached: 7D4F68AC-026A-4A15-BBD9-8BA80109A0CA.jpg (4032x3024, 2.96M)

That mini also reads great with the rest of the SS stuff.
It happens right before Flag goes awol, and when he tries to kill that Senator. It's when Waller tells Deadshot to stop Flag from killing that senator, and Deadshot complies by killing the senator himself.
That's when Waller started paying closer attention to the lives of member of the Squad

>There's also no sign that they will continue with omni's of other writers, so the trades will continue to be "complete"
Oh man I would really like a Jenkins or Carey omni, I might get this Ennis Omni tho, it is not my favorite run but I like some of it I'll just be salty to have dangerous habits thrice

Nice, this is actually some really prime Bat-stuff, you should pick up a copy of Gothic by Morrison and Lonely Place of Dying too if you don't already have them

Some oddball stuff I've acquired 'recently'.

Attached: 20190803_140725.jpg (2560x1440, 1.28M)

It really does, I like the little insight they gave into how it came to be too, Ostrander wanted to expand on Deadshot more but didn't so the other characters wouldn't fade into the background so his editor suggested a mini. Also McDonnell doing pencils AND inks is just so fucking prime.

If Yea Forums ever dies these are the only threads I'll miss.

What is that? Is that the pokemon manga?

Not that user but yes, and it looks like the first part which includes the whole original Red and Blue story and maybe Yellow. It's actually surprisingly solid as far as video game manga adaptations go but it does it's own thing and is actually one of my favorites. It goes on into Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire etc and while fun it doesn't quite match up.

Original user here. I heard good stuff about it. I'm told it preserves the older games' aesthetic and tone, and that sounds rad as fuck. First one's in my bookbag.

buy more shelves instead
TYRANT! You lucky bastard. You find it on e-bay?
>1,360 PAGES
wew, laddie that's a weapon, not a book.

they seem to be soliciting more and more gigantic omnis.
The Starman: The Cosmic Omnibus Vol. 1 hasn't officially been solicited yet, but it clocks in at 1520

>The classic superhero series Starman, starring a Gen-X superhero, returns in this massive omnibus hardcover edition by James Robinson (Batman: Face the Face) and Tony Harris (Ex Machina).

>The superheroic legacy of Starman is renewed in these stories, in which Jack Knight—antiques collector and dealer—inherits the name and powers of his father’s old Starman identity from his older brother, who has been assassinated. Reluctantly adjusting to his role, Jack reinvents the look of Starman, ditching the traditional red and green in favor of black leather and aviator goggles. But Jack has inherited more than a heroic identity from his brother…he’s also gained a foe: the beautiful but mentally unbalanced Nash, daughter of the villain known as the Mist. Jack also must come to grips with the Shade, the morally ambiguous former villain who decides to become Jack’s mentor.

>Collects Starman issues #0-42, Starman Annual: Framing Sequence #1, Starman Annual: The Death of Prince Gavyn #1, Starman Annual: The Witch #1, The Shade #1-4, Starman Secret Files #1 and Power of Shazam #35-36.

Lonely place of dying is included in A Death in the Family. As for Gothic, I'm holding out on that for now until I can find good deals on Shaman, Prey, And Venom which are all around the same time as Gothic. For some reason Gothic is the only one out of those that are still in print.

they probably reprinted it when Morrison batman was getting big, but over estimated how many copies to order

Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol, Enigma, Shade the Changing Man, Hellblazer, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Daytripper, The Invisibles, The Filth, Flex Mentallo, We3, Books of Magic, Black Orchid, Jonah Hex Shadow West, Animal Man, Kid Eternity (both Morrison and Nocenti), any of the one shots Milligan and Fegredo did together

>Buy more shelves instead
That's the plan but I want to get rid of duplicates, like I really don't need 3 copies of Hellboy Seed of Destruction or 2 trades of Night of the Owls tie-ins

Oh yeah, it's fucking great. Ruby and Sapphire is amazing.
I just won't buy the things because they fucked up two of the character's names to stay in line with the American game releases.
In Japan, they released Red and Green, so years down the line we got Fire Red and Leaf Green.
The protagonists are named after the games, so in Japan the MC is Red and the Rival is Green and the Girl is Blue.
But the US never got Green, so they named the Rival Blue, which fucks up the FRLG climax.

Just got the Wolverine Goes to Hell Omni, copped it for $45 bucks. Storm, Bulma, and Shao Kahn are all new. And those are my gamin consoles which are hacked to hell, the 3ds has every SNES, DS, Genesis, 3DS etc game on there on a 200gb sd and I have a lot of PS1 games and PSP games on the PSP.

Same. I've been coming to /shelf/ for as long as I've been on Yea Forums (2012 or so. I don't think we called it /shelf/ until a couple years ago though. Was just a sporadic recent buys type thing). If not for /shelf/ I wouldn't use Yea Forums at all.

Bring it on. After reading Colossal Conan and Big Damn Sin City, no omnibus can defeat me.

Honestly if this website ever shuts down I don’t know where to go to talk about comics

Fellow recent Conan convert. I started with the Chronicles epic and it was phenomenal.

That’s pretty cool anonymous

Reddit or CBR I guess

collectededitions

I've been padding out my Vertigo collection. The last Lucifer and Preacher trades are coming in the mail. Too bad they aren't going to be reprinting Sandman Mystery Theatre any time soon.

>What’s your favorite non-cape book?
Carey's Lucifer was the comic that got me to look at comics in a new way. When I was new I sort of saw them the stereotypical way, that comics were a medium for newspaper strips and superheroes. After reading Lucifer I realized that comics are not restrained to arbitrary genres and that they can be used to tell any kind of story. I reread it over the past couple of weeks and it is defiantly remains my favourite comic book.

Attached: vert.jpg (4032x2168, 1.47M)

I see you're cursed with the new spine for The Family Man too

That's how it is sometimes. Lucky it doesn't bother me.

Mind a question not about what’s on the shelf but the shelf itself?

Noticed my bookshelf (cheap Walmart furniture) has a sagging shelf. I mostly keeps my old textbooks on it but have one shelf dedicated to my comics (just terrible webcomics). That one shelf is sagging the worst. What’s a good, not super expensive, bookcase? If my comic books are killing my shelf, I figure you folks must know a good cheap bookcase that can handle lots of thick books.

If you are lucky you can find a good FB group or a discord server.

If you have the tools, I'd say build your own. It was a fun little project for me and got me into woodworking. It's honestly the cheapest way unless you wanna buy another shitty Ikea/Walmart bookshelf.

Curious how much of Spider Baby Comix are reprints of stuff that's also in Bedlum

What is the shelf I'm looking at? What brand and make?
I've decided that I might need a little shelf exclusively for Berserk, and that looks perfect.

its a Billy from Ikea. Be warned they sag with too much weight. But for the price I have no qualms

Seems to be taking those Punishers pretty well, and they're a hell of a lot heavier than Berserk Omnis.

Ordered Planetary, technically my first omnibus $:

Supreme Power is underrated

Nice

yeah for that they'll be more than fine. My dark horse shelf has more visible sag but that's to be expected when one shelf has all the hellboy, goon, and black hammer library editions plus other big books

Supreme Power is a lot of fun. So is pretty much all Squadron Supreme stuff (except Robinson's).

Never read that one. But I have always considered Gruenwald's run to be one of the supreme (hehe) Marvel comics ever

Not sure if this helps user but check your local craigslist, sometimes you can find some for really cheap or for free.

Those have much better binding than anything DC has ever put out.

DC has improved its game. I'm not afraid of humungous books from them anymore.

They still glue you fucking retard

That hasn't been true for a while. Who is the retard? You

They still use glue sometimes. Perez Wonder Woman omni is glued.

Quoting from another board

>A couple more DC books just slipped a few weeks:

>ALL-STAR COMICS: ONLY LEGENDS LIVE FOREVER HC, which previously moved from 8/18/2019 to 9/25/2019, is now scheduled for 10/9/2019.

>ZERO HOUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY OMNIBUS HC, which previously moved from 9/25/2019 to 10/9/2019, is now scheduled for 10/23/2019.

>And some good news:

>THE JOKER: THE BRONZE AGE OMNIBUS HC, which once seemed very iffy, is in stock at Diamond and should be in stores next week, 8/14/2019.

>DC just told retailers that JONAH HEX: THE BRONZE AGE OMNIBUS VOL. 1 HC has increased to 896 pages and added AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS #13 to the contents.

>The added story is a four page Hex parody intended for a humor comic that finally saw print in AWODCC #13. It's by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga.
Of course, there's people on that other forum bitching about it getting four pages for a parody, and not adding a special issue that came later

>still no preorder link for Jonah Hex
It's like they want it to fail

Well I can't speak to all omnis but some are sewn. I checked my shelf as Batman 66 and Superman Exile are both sewn.
All I was trying to say was they've improved their stuff lately. Even when they use glue it's still a better product than they did in the past with stuff like Flash omnibus or Hawkman omnibus. Invisibles omni is the same size as the Starman omni is purported to be and the Invisibles omni is find to read. Anyway I don't to argue anymore.

I know. I think DC should go the Marvel route and use thinner stock so the omnis aren't as huge and the binding can breathe a little more.

The better plan would be to let AT&T sell them, and then let a non-retarded company run them.
Step one: kill all contracts
Weak.

Yeah but with the thinner stock you can see through the page on occasion, especially on whites (which older comics had more of). Now the purist might say "but user, that's how comics were, you could see through the page." Maybe you mind, maybe you don't.
Oh, it's you. Now that I know who I'm dealing with I don't have to carry on further. Have a nice day user.

Not much, Goon #5 because of a shipping mistake and Godzilla kingdom of the monsters. But a big thing I want to show off is a Goon stencil I did on my backpack.

well, my Amazon order of Fathom was late and since it was shipped late I didn't make a big deal. No e-mail notifications either so I went to track it, it was marked as delivery attempt twice and then third time not delivered. Which is impossible cause I live in an apartment complex, and usually they left a note to pick it up at the post office. But I am sure they got their own delivery driver in my city now and while it was cool to get a text that the driver was here on a Sunday for a delivery I wonder if drivers are stealing things now. And it's not like I have Amazon Prime so they don't have to rush it to me, can send it through Canada Post.

Ah well, their customer service is pretty fast and they are sending another copy. Not like it's an expensive item at all, but hell $10 for some of Micheal Turners best work seems worth it.

Bad Gateway is the fourth Fantagraphics release. The reviewer you read that from is probably misinformed or just a paid reviewer. Anyways, there are a lot of magazines/minis that Hanselmann has released through different venues that are all part of the main narrative. These extra stories don’t necessarily fill in gaps of the main story but are still great stuff

My shelf has been sagging lately, is it time I took the metal pill?

Is this not a good idea, I don’t see anyone with this

>particleboard
Other than that, it's not bad. You can adjust the levels to fit odd sized stuff like Behold Galactus and fit all the manga up top without wasting too much space, but it seems a little deep for books.

Attached: 1349900445792.jpg (493x660, 177K)

it's so unaesthetic though

Attached: ugh.jpg (252x243, 13K)

I got a bunch of comic boxes in my garage on something like that. I put them in tried trash bags first to keep out moisture and bugs.

I don't think that's a good idea user, your going to have to put some thing on the sides to keep the books from falling out, this wouldnt look inside most places, these things are kind of flimsy unless you add support to the back. I have to deal with these at work and they are just annoying.

I guess you can’t cheap out for expensive books

What about stocks?

Bros should I continue buying Silver Surfer: Black? I have the first two issues, unsure with the third one coming out next week?

Although it probably won't be cancelled, I really want that All-Star collection to come out

It's not too bad, Cates does Surfer prose pretty well imo and the art definitely helps. The only thing I have against it is the fact it has Knull in it when it should stand alone

I'm a casual comics fan and I've always wanted to read this because you all praise it highly, but that omni just seems impractical.

Got it from mycomicshop. I'm still missing issue 4 so I'm searching around for that.

Spider Baby Comix #1 has three stories that are in Bedlam, but in black and white. Nothing in #2 is in Bedlam.

Spoder mon

looks good user

I may not take more pictures of my collection til this Fall, when a lot of my preorders start showing, but I've got 3 cherry finish shelves and about 2 grand in the shelves themselves.

IST is always suggesting 100 bullets trades for me too. Lmao

Stray Bullets is probably my favorite non cape book. There's nothing like laphams art in stark black and white.

After three years since I started buying the comic, my Usagi Yojimbo collection is finally complete and up to date. It feels crazy (in a good way) to have 32 years worth of storytelling on my shelf. Now all I have to do is follow the IDW ongoing.

Attached: Finally.jpg (4032x2268, 3.08M)

Post a shot of it in it's final form.

I'm afraid it'll have to wait till tomorrow, since I'm off to work, but sure, I'll post it.

what are book ends?
>falling out the back
not all book cases on /shelf/ have a back, a backing on a /shelf/ is actually not ment to be a back cause they are very thin, it's ment to keep the whole /shelf/ square.
that will be fine if you use good book ends and decorate it. But if you just leave as is it can look kinda unaesthetic. They are vertically very strong but they wiggle left to right a bit so I would make sure to use the hinges that attach to the wall to make sure it doesn't.

>Cates cosmic
>Cates jerking his OC again
nah mate, I dropped that shit hard

I'm gonna go to a used book store today, gonna spend some time looking through the hundreds of 90s comics they have to see if i can find anything, but it'll probably just be more copies of youngblood.

Hey rodstvow, what program did you use for those sales comparisons a few months back? Excel?
Do you happen to have any of the actual files handy?

Hi, I used LibreOffice Calc actually, but I saved the file in Excel format so it should be readable in Excel 2010 at the very least.
And here you have it: sendspace.com/file/3y16ie
It's not the prettiest looking file but it's easy to read. You can switch the pages for different charts and data.

I seem to have to rearrange my /shelfs/ every couple of months cause my sorting mechanism all of a sudden makes certain things not fit on a /shelf/ any more. So here is updated again.

Just fuck my shit up senpai

That's funny. I also started my Hellblazer collection with volume 5

October is my month though, there's plenty of releases I'm looking forward to buy so all in all it's shaping up nicely:

>Immortal Hulk Vol. 1 ( October 15, 2019)
>Avengers West Coast Epic Collection: Lost in Space-Time October 1, 2019
>X-Men: Starjammers by Dave Cockrum (October 15, 2019)
>Secret Warps (October 8, 2019)
>Thanos: The Infinity Ending (October 1, 2019)
>Infinity Wars by Gerry Duggan: The Complete Collection (October 1, 2019)
>Namor the Sub-Mariner by John Byrne and Jae Lee Omnibus (October 15, 2019)

Immortal Hulk hardcover comes out then too. Not so sure if I should just pick up the trades or get the hardcover for the Alex Ross art.

Anyone else having an excel with future releases and purchases

Fucking hell mate , that's true as hell. Plus, November has life story coming out. Then House of X In December. I can look foward to those.

I keep them in a txt, based on the catalogs released from time to time. Here's the ones I'm keeping an eye out for until April 2020.

I forgot that Triumph and Torment was getting reprinted, I'll have to add a memo

Never went that far. A note in my phone + Amazon wish list, more than enough to keep track

goddammit DC gimme more Legion collections!! I hope there are some with the new series when it hits solicits

No sign of them in the spring 2020 catalogue.
Unfortunately the previous collections didn't perform well

Whoever the fuck at DC decided putting nth Year Anniversary Edition on all of their new collected editions needs to be fired.

You think that's bad? How about them putting the fucking Guardians movie poster as the cover of Bendis OSH vol 1

Attached: file.png (1200x1723, 2.72M)

They did the same with Steranko's SHIELD, by using an Agents of SHIELD cover.

Attached: SHIELD%20MAOS.jpg (327x500, 32K)

Yeah, but at least there were 2 other covers of that you could by. I'll never be able to get rid of the giant 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION on my Final Crisis omnibus.

Christ look at that list of artists. Bendis is truly blessed.

>DC floppies don't include digital code
thanks for helping me save my money i guess

Attached: 1548006503925.png (645x773, 11K)

Man I'm mad at DC. They're using a much lighter paper stock than they used to, but all the books cost the same. My copy of Batman Rebirth HC vol 4. arrived, and it uses the new paper stock. The thing weighs HALF as much as the prior 3 volumes. And somehow it costs the same? Fucking bullshit.

>needs a digital code to read online comics

Attached: 8d6.jpg (645x729, 48K)

i've heard of people selling the codes or giving them to friends. it's better than nothing

that's besides the point

90% of modern vinyl albums come with a digital code
Floppies, hell even TPB shouldn't be any different

Reading them digitally is much better than physically. For one thing, you don't ruin the actual floppy...

>Reading them digitally is much better than physically
don't be stupid

Enjoying the Boys Amazon series, so I finally got around to start reading the comic. Can anyone comment as to the newer omnibus editions?

>Reading them digitally is much better than physically.

Attached: 1543462997522.png (500x501, 139K)

What? It's true. Unless you have a miniature phone, being able to appreciate the details on a wide desktop screen is always appreciated.

reading comics digitally is good, but no, reading physically is the way to go. for god's sake you're bringing this up in the SHELF thread?

It was ok. Nothing groundbreaking imo

I'm talking specifically about floppies though, and yes I stand by it. Collections on the other hand are much better physically, sure.

Alright that's fine. But don't make me come looking for you.

Attached: 1550210321432-1.jpg (1244x1405, 863K)

hey man, do your thing.

>Collections on the other hand are much better physically

No!

Floppies are better physically because you can actually read a 2 page spread without breaking the spine of the book

Uhhh, I'll concede that. Nothing worse than bending the spine and leaving a crease just to enjoy a good page spread.

This is true. Unless you have a Marvel omnibus or something, only a floppy has 0 gutter loss. I hate floppies and what they mean to the industry, but I will concede they do do 1 thing better than collected editions do. No gutters. Zero. Zilch.

do you seriously buy comics to CBR them? I buy comics to read them. You can download any comic you want free of DRM anyways, why would you want to go through the hassle of getting codes?

I don't normally buy floppies though, I support the occasional series digitally, but always buy the trades. I'm by no means a trade-waiter because I pirate them, but I just don't like the physical floppy format, I find it outdated and too fragile for its price.

Yeah plus there are no ads and shit. You get a much clearer detailed image. I know that this is the land of hard copies, but reading digitally is a different experience completely.

I don't mind the ads. in old comics they're a time capsule, and in new comics it helps you keep your ear to the ground

I agree, I buy some floppies to support the book, but half the time I read those digitally anyway. I don't mind reading digitally on single issues, but collections I really would rather the physical book. I still don't see any advantage of digital codes though, you can still read the book online and it's EASIER

>I still don't see any advantage of digital codes though

I suppose. Both ways have their differences good and bad.

yeah for sure. I like to read comics as floppies, as trades, as omnis. just like I listen to music digitally, or as a record, in stereo or in mono. I like variety of experience. it's good to spice things up

>I still don't see any advantage of digital codes though
They're official and you can still add them to a collection that says "I have this", which isn't your harddrive in a folder.
And this is a good option too . I'm not the guy who mentioned the music but I completely agree with that take, I come from the music scene, I buy music from Bandcamp and I collect a lot of it, nothing compares to buying a vinyl or CD record and getting a nifty digital download card so you don't ruin your purchase, while putting your MP3s to listen on the go anywhere.

huh, never heard of people selling the codes. Sure, I guess if that's why you are buying them, seems weird though.

I also like having the CD's and Vinyls. Though since I stopped playing music I haven't really used them much...

I just want another silver age omnibus. That's it.

I ended up buying all of Levitz/Giffen/5YL in floppies because I gave up hope of reprints.

you're gonna feel silly when Legion has a billion dollar movie and omnibuses come out to support it! If I say it loud enough it'll come true! billion dollar movie!!!

>huh, never heard of people selling the codes.
It was big a few years back, when Marvel Now! just started. A lot of ebay auctions would even note that the trades/omniboo/floppies still had their codes included.

>all copies of the next Superman and Supergirl issues are to be destroyed by LCS's and replaced for free.
Lol. Apparently they have the YEAR OF THE VILLIAN!!1! banner on top, but have no connection to that theme.

Oh shit. Now I want one. printing errors are always my favorite collectibles

Who's doing the printing on the next West Coast Avengers EC? I remember hearing that the quality of the first one wasn't too great

As promised, here's everything Usagi related I have. I also threw in 47 Ronin and Nilson Groundthumper because Sakai drew/wrote those as well.

All that is missing from my Usagi collection are the 2 current IDW issues (but I'm waiting for a TPB, so those do not count) and one very short TMNT/Usagi story, which has been reprinted for the first time in many years in their ultimate crossover book. A book which I won't be getting, because I already own 99% of it's contents. I also never liked those TMNT crossovers when they were done from Usagi's side, so it's a hard pass.

Attached: All Usagi and Sakai related stuff.jpg (4032x2268, 3.05M)

Imperius Rex is pretty fun too

Anybody knows how often are Dynamite omnibuses reprinted? Or if they get a reprint at all? I was buying the "Red Sonja She-Devil Wth a Sword" omnibuses but Vol 4 isn't available anywhere (don't really know if its just nobody has it in stock at the same time but it will be restocked or if it went out of print).

Should I but the TPBs that are collected in Vol 4 or is it going to be reprinted?

>I'm glad I got the original issues because the hardcover collection from IDW are a shit recolor.
is there any comparison?

They are. Shiny Beasts is a collection of his work for Epic which has some great stories in it. Abraxas is batshit insane. Crypto Zoo is a collection of his dream comics which are pretty weird as well.

Attached: 20190809_210828.jpg (1500x1619, 1.41M)

Here are a couple of pages. It's not the worst recolor I've ever seen, but the original is just better. It adds shading to everything which makes the art look muddy. The sunburst thing is drawn into the art in the original, but is just copy and pasted in the new one which clashes pretty badly, I think. I wonder if Veitch colored it himself, because I don't think he does digital color particularly well.

Attached: 20190810_093036.jpg (1000x1608, 1.08M)

thanks for the heads up

What drives people to do this
There is literally nothing wrong with old comics being colored the way they were originally drawn to be colored.

It's not always the case, but sometimes it's because of copyright laws. It varies depending on the specific contract with the author/s, but recolors often qualify as a new version or a remake and this allows to cut costs on some royalties if you are a publisher. Alternatively, the author of the comic may have full rights to his work, but not the rights to HOW it has been printed by his publisher (who may have exclusive rights on a specific version of his work), so if somebody wants to reprint his older comic with a new company that offers him a nice paycheck, drastic recolors are the easiest way to make it different enough to avoid legal conflict with the previous publisher. Recent example: IDW bragging about their plans to release colorised versions of older Usagi Yojimbo issues (including those originally published by Dark Horse), while DH keeps the rights to publish them in black and white, while Stan Sakai owns 100% of the intellectual property.

most of the times I see these things recoloured is because paper changes. You can't keep the old style colouring on glossy paper, you can go cardstock paper and sometimes it works but that's extremely expensive and probably cheaper to recolour. I am not sure how the mass market feels about newspaper print, but I assume a lot of casual collections see glossy paper and automatically feel that it's higher quality.

I don't have this information, sorry. Do you have any examples of the coloring?
My only complaint regarding the recolors are how flat they look sometimes, but you get used to it. Better than the modern gradients applied to older works which you know weren't designed to look like that, in any case... But I wish the colorists experimented with some duotone to recapture the look and feel of some of these works.

Fuck me for not getting into it sooner. Saga 2 is OOS as fuck

>You can't keep the old style colouring on glossy paper,
Works for Epic Collections just fine

maaaaaaaaaaaybe IDW reprints the stories, but I doubt it

fuck Gleason

I was flipping through it at my B&N, its nicely made

I bought volumes 4-7 of Marvel's essential X-Men because they were on sale for a decent price and gave me easier access to a physical copy of a good portion of Chris Claremont's run. Not really posting a pic because I been having troubles with my camera lately.

Are you the guy who was asking how to get into x-men? In a couple of days there is a new epic called dissolution and rebirth, that jumps at the start of Jim Lee

Is Jim Lee's X-Men worth it, I've read Fatal Attractions and I really like Generation X but I don't know if it's the fun kind of extreme or the bland kind of extreme like Liefeld X-force

Can anyone with an absolute tell me how they like it? I’m not sure if I should save up for the absolute or if I should just wait for the cheaper hardcover when it comes out

You are in luck my friend, shoot your questions away. I love it, but that's only because I love the story so damn much. Any picture you might want? spine? interiors? marker?

Attached: IMG_20190727_100402.jpg (3264x2448, 1.74M)

Thanks my man, what’s the binding on the spine like, what added content does it come with?

Sewn, not a problem there, with 320 pages is one of the thinner absolutes, but not that thin.

It does come with some sketches and text for the charactes, Clark, Lois, Lex, Jimmy the ulthrasphinx, Samson, etc. It does not have a cover gallery, because the covers are in their respective chaper/issue.

Will take photos in a bit, they just take longer than typing.

When did they start printing Absolute ASS again?
I thought I was shit out of luck since I couldn't get it 10 years ago.

90s X-Men is the only good X-Men

Thanks again user

Just pick up the floppies. It'll run you less than the hardcover collection for sure

It's still written by Claremont. Post Claremont sucks

DC usually keeps things in stock.

Claremont sucks

you shouldn't lie on a Mongolian carrier pigeon network.
it's a mess cause it comes as editorial and superstar artists are wrecking plots thinking they know how to write better than writers. Louise Simonson leaves around there, and Claremont holds on only a little while more but he's already not able to actually write anymore, artists will change stuff however they want.

Lol not at all besides Watchmen, Long Halloween, Kingdom come and Miller’s books

X-Men only gets good when Claremont leaves

they need to reprint the Epic with the end of Claremont's run!

Every Absolute is like this, don't be surprised. If you like something enough, don't care about the money, and it's available in Absolute: go for it.

I'd like to add one thing that I've probably said before. Absolute are just really big, better quality versions of comics. EXCEPT, in the instance of Killing Joke and Batman Year One. These versions actually have something that their respective trades/hardcovers don't: both colorings. If you want the original Batman Year One or Killing Joke colors, you need to track down the original issue(s). Or just get the Absolutes, which contain the story in original colors, and then in new colors.

And Sandman and a lot of other things.

IST has the New Mutants Demon Bear Epic already out of stock what the shit!

still on amazon

/shelf/ I'm interested in reading DC's events. Are the Crisis events worth reading?

>a lot of other things
Why lie

>Crisis on Infinite Earths
Not a good comic. But a very important comic. Pros: George Perez at the top of his game. Cons: It's Crisis on Infinite Earths

>Infinite Crisis
Just a pile of shit. Nothing else to say

>Final Crisis
This one is actually kind of cool.

As a rule of thumb, comic book "events" are on the low end of the quality totem pole. DC events in particular are buried underneath the totem pole.

yeah i grabbed it out of fear there

I don't really like events as a whole. Of the three big ones, Final Crisis is probably the one I liked the most, but it can be incredibly hard to follow. Most of the tie-ins were useless, so just read what Morrison wrote.
It requires a fuck ton of old DC knowledge to completely understand though. It's one of those events you can read a year later after reading other stuff, and then pick up more of.

They're worth reading for historical purposes, but COIE is pretty convoluted, Zero Hour tries to fix the problems created by COIE, Infinite Crisis was pretty much the MCU before the MCU, Identity Crisis is hot garbage and Final Crisis is good, but can be confusing if you're not familiar with Morrison.

Well that's disappointing. I've been rereading Multiversity and thought they might've had something decent. What about stuff like 52 or DC One Million?

Attached: 1563323493105.png (760x631, 247K)

52 isn't really an event, and as such it's a good comic. DC One Million is pretty cool, but I'm a Morrisonfag. Listen, don't take any of words for it. Lots of people love the Crises. Always read and decide for yourself. If I only read the stuff I was "allowed" to my /shelf/ would be a /stack/.

One Million's very fun.
52 is good, but I don't know if I would really call that an event. I guess it could count as one.
One good one that hasn't been reprinted in years as The Final Night. Karl Kesel when he was doing great writing, and Stuart Immonen before he jumped to Marvel.

I don’t buy any graphic novels only minicomics, zines and real indie stuff so thy don’t look good on a shelf at all

One Million is probably the best 'event' the big two has ever produced. Blackest Night is also good, but by and large events are garbage with a few good issues sprinkled in.

Kesel is so underrated and constantly great

No but I been trying to get all of the Silver age and Chris Claremont stuff and I saw that it is coming out and rather get that over getting a black and white reprint of Jim Lee art I find how the essential editions reprints his art doesn't look that great. Though it is annoying the Epic collection that closes out Chris Claremont's run is out of print I looked at three book stores in my area and there was no copy. I got lucky finding a copy of Spider-Man Cosmic Adventures epic volume. I been trying to collect X-Men but find a stopping point. As in a storyline or issue that can feel like a finale so I can give myself a stopping point. With the amount of content and how much it costs you either have to solely collect X-Men or be loaded.

Oh sure, I could have gotten to two trades of ASS, but for the longest time the Absolute was unavailable except second hand.

post proof
I hear ya, it's why I stuck to shorter X-Men runs for so long. But now I'm trying to collect all of Carey's X-Men Legacy...it will take a while cause I'm not devoting all my money to it, and I'm ok with slowly collecting it. But there is a shit ton or X-Men, I'm mainly sticking to the 2000s thusfar

Post that shit

COIE is interesting, but simple in the way old comics are.
It's like DAROS to me, really useful for going "Ooh, who the fuck is this guy, he looks cool."
Zero Hour is kind of a mess because they had to change the villain reveal at the last second because they wanted it to be a twist, but everyone had pieced it together. It's also one of the few times that the "Villain" wins.
Death and Return of Superman isn't exactly a Crisis, but it has about the same impact and character involvement. Doomsday is just a big fightscene with nice art, Funeral for a Friend is the character interaction that I just fucking love, Reign of the Supermen is the best part, and Return just wraps it up.
Infinite Crisis is a little bare unless you pull in some of the tie-ins.
Final Crisis is the gift that keeps on giving, I notice something new every time I read it. Don't skip Superman Beyond 3D, that's important, and Legion of 3 Worlds is good too. And read Final Crisis Aftermath: D.A.N.C.E, the Super Young Team is great.

What is with Boom and their hardcovers? I know they let the 4th Premier Edition of Irredeemable go out of print but I'm seeing the HCs of the Power Ranger stuff OoP too?

fuck boom and their oop hcs and their 4 issue trades. if it's cheaper for me to collect your comics secondhand as floppies, you are bad at business

Boom is all about targetting kids and young adults with graphic novels now

Hehe "Absolute ASS".

Told you motherfuckers on the previous thread that I feared it'd sell out and you assured me it wouldn't. Amazon probably has it at full retail price.
Gonna have to check CGN later in the evening.

what are some good non-big two comics coming out next Wednesday?

>Zero Hour is kind of a mess because they had to change the villain reveal at the last second because they wanted it to be a twist, but everyone had pieced it together. It's also one of the few times that the "Villain" wins.
You're thinking of Armageddon 2001. It was supposed to be Captain Atom (his book had just been cancelled so everyone figured it out), but then they changed it to Hawk.
It's a wonder that Kesel ever worked for them after that because it killed his very good Hawk and Dove book that he did with his wife

I read a lot of comics every week so I'll give ya the list of non-big two I'm reading
>Second Coming
>Sword Daughter (Brian Wood basically doing another Northlanders series just not at Vertigo, really good)
>The Orville
>Red Sonja (by Mark Russell)
>Sonata
>Outer Darkness
>Unnatural (final issue)

isn't sword daughter his third attempt at Northlanders? Black Road must not have sold well enough to continue

>Sword Daughter
>Black Road
neat. I didn't even know these existed, and I really enjoyed Northlanders. I knew there was a reason I still came to this website

never read Black Road. It could be that he's just doing them as mini/maxi series now, each one a stand alone from the others. But Sword Daughter is very interesting, the main character doesn't talk at all, so any word balloons are stuff like animal sounds or sound effects and her communication is all through the artist rendering her body language as very emotive.

Ah, my mistake, he was also involved with Zero Hour.

Analog #7
Outer Darkness #9

>I knew there was a reason I still came to this website

What the hell happened to Extant anyways? He came back in Johns' JSA and he ended up being an amalgamation of Monarch, Captain Atom, and some other folk?

Essentials 9 to 11 are practically unobtainable unless you are willing to pay 60~ bucks for a copy. Yeah I missed on that epic too hoping for a reprint next year

DC lies, it is average at best.

Over what?

Eternals by Kirby Omnibus

the Akira boxset, it dropped to £60 the first year it was available and then fell oop and hasn't dropped below £110 since it came back in print

reprint should be coming

Nah, that was me. Still wondering how I'm going to handle that. I guess I will wait until Marvel decides to release a proper collection that isn't OOP

The next moebius library is all interviews
It's cool and all but when are they going to start making a dent in some of his best known work

they don't have the rights to the good stuff
which is one of the reasons dark horse is dying

Finally completed Monster

I dont care who releases it but I want a complete Blueberry damnit

If they aren't stupid, yeah. Hopefully it's not just a True Believers Eternals #1.

What's the best place to buy bags and boards? I checked amazon and it's around $17 for 100

pretty much just as cheep to get them at your LCS usually. My LCS gives free bags with floppies unless they are from the bargain bin

My lcs charges. I use to not care about bags and boards so now I have some floppies without them. I think I am going to get the 100 pack, bag and board the floppies that need it in my collection and use the rest to take to the comic shop when something I like comes out, I see old dudes taking their own bags and boards to the shops to save some money.. I have become an old man

Nice.

>I have become an old man
Sobering thought...

By the way, even though the story is pretty good as expected (which I already knew when I read it months ago, duh), I'm not too pleased with the trade version of No Road Home, compared with the hardcover version of No Surrender. It feels like a downgrade, even though the content is the same. I should've waited until the hardcover was announced instead of rushing it. Live and learn!

Attached: IMG_20190811_141738.jpg (3000x3000, 3.9M)

>next year they finish the trilogy
>release a No Avengers omnibus

Is no surrender a good starting point for Avengers?

For sure. You don't really need to read anything prior and it's very self-contained, just know that the book happened after merging all the previous Avengers teams at the time (you'll see the team names in the credits), and that Bruce Banner was dead. You'll be good to go.
No Road Home pretty much picks up from where this left off so you don't need to read anything for that either.

It sucked, right?

Awesome. Thank you! Starting to get back into Marvel after a lapse.

Went to a comic / collectables shop because they had a 20 percent off sale and found these.

How the fuck do I collect Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter)? I can't find the omnibus or ultimate collections anywhere, does Marvel intend to publish them again anytime soon?

did you get the rest of that Zatanna mini, or did the store only focus on #1's?
That Hawk and Dove series is pretty beloved.
That Starman series on the other hand, was pretty damn boring

It was just random shit on a rack, 2 bucks each. It's an old antique store that doesn't really specialize in anything, just a 3 story building plus basement where random vendors divide their crap up. I just snagged them because they were neat, but I might end up giving one or two of them to my LCS just for store credit (not that it'll amount to much anyway).

A lot of the Creepy archives are out of print so I would say about all the out of print volumes are mine.
I am thinking of getting the beginning and ending of a run so I don't have to worry about tracking those down later and filling in everything in between. Because nothing sucks more then collecting a whole series and unable to find the final part either online for cheap or out in the wild.

bottom 4 were all 2 or 3 bucks each with nothing more then 7

No way to collect it all atm. Just download the trades as Marvel probably has zero intentions of collecting anything ultimate related

I was going to buy it on Tuesday on IST now I have to pay extra on Amazon.

It's a marketing ploy to make them different from previous releases and to lure in hardcore fans to double dip in hopes they include extras not in existing releases of the material.

I skipped it because I have New Mutants Classics V3-4, which is far better, especially since V4 collects the issues after #31 that wrap up the Karma/Shadow King arc so that I have the complete story in V4. I will probably pick up V2 of the Classic series eventually to get the material not in the first Epic collection.

Most of Essential V9 and 10 will be reprinted next month in the Dissolution and Rebirth Epic TPB (collects #248-267).

That said, V10 and V11 will still be heavily desirable given how they completely fucked up Mutant Genesis Epic Collection (which collects the end of the Claremont run) and the fact that the handling of Kings of Pain and other Annual X-Overs in other Epic books, indicate that X-Men's Epic TPBs most likely won't have Days of Future Present reprinted in full.

You’re in luck! They have an omnibus coming out For Miles

The second half of the Sanctuary arc in Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac (roughly V6-12/13).

Several volumes go for $100+ and thanks to the shit sandwich that is the Netflix remake flopping, we won't see them reissued anytime soon

Yeah I am hoping I got the extra 40 bucks to get it mostly because if I wait too long for the price to drop down to like say 25 to 30 either a bunch of people buy it and it is sold out or you just sneeze and it is out of print. But luckily Mutant genesis I am pretty sure is mostly collected in a few trades besides maybe a couple issues so it is probably not hard to get that part of the run.

>favorite non cape book

It’s my favorite comic ever.

I know it's already late for this, but I just checked CGN and...

Attached: Screenshot_2019-08-11-20-04-51-358_org.mozilla.firefox.jpg (690x274, 80K)

As an egregious example, they just put out a 30th anniversary Crisis on Infinite Earths hardcover, but now we're getting a 35th anniversary edition. Going by the solicit, the 35th edition may include less content. If I recall, it doesn't specifically say if it includes History of the DCU like the 30th edition did.

I also wonder if the year'd anniversary editions were DC's attempt to get more book store shopper interested in the deluxe editions, like making them anniversary editions makes them more desirable or collectible, like it imparts a sense of "this has a tradition of being good" or something.

this almost seems like just a way to create new ISNB numbers...but I guess they always have to create a new one for even a second printing of a book. Still, it's really dumb

they're probably releasing it again this year to try and cash in on the arrowverse crisis on infinite earth event

Yeah, I don’t get it.

That makes sense and is probably right.

piskor is streaming some inking

Speaking of which, what is the most comprehensive way to collect COIE? There's like a dozen companion books and I only understand the purpose of about half of them.

No fucking Ultimate War? Even though that has the official introduction of Hawkeye and Black Widow (having been rushed into production when Hitch's lateness delayed the second arc)?

Absolute Crisis is the gold standard, because the bonus content from the companion book (which is basically the definitive oral history of the making of mini-series complete with extensive interviews from DC editors, writers of the era, multiple issue breakdowns from early versions of the story, the unseen original opening to Crisis #9 that was redrawn when it was decided to give Guy Gardner his own unique Green Lantern uniform, and inter-company memos galore) included with it have never seen the light of day in any other release.

The Anniversary HC is OK if you just want the story plus it has the History of the DC Universe mini-series as well.

The compendium books with the crossover issues are also good, though I'd recommend you trace down the third Englehart GL trade if you want to read the Green Lantern issues, since the Compendium doesn't include the two part epilogue to Crisis that ran in Green Lantern along with the third and fourth Swamp Thing by Alan Moore for the full American Gothic story (which is a companion piece, in a lot of ways, to Crisis).

Find something that contains the main series, and maybe History of the DCU 1-2.
The recent crisis companion books (2 volumes so far) basicially just exist to collect barely related books that were never collected before.
They can be skipped

So what should I look for to get the tie ins that do matter in some way, like the introduction of Superboy Prime?

Ultimate Wars is collected with Ultimate X-Men, not Ultimates (IIRC it's branded the fifth Ultimate X-Men trade).

Also, it's continuity is a nightmare to mesh with the Ultimates, especially in relations to what happens to Quicksilver in the mini-series.

Got a link? I can't find any news on a new volume

Superboy Prime's first appearance will be in the third and final Compendium (out late this fall).

The Compendiums are your best bet but they collect the crossover issues broken down by character, not chronological order. But if you want the added context of what happened before and after them, only three books have been collected in a fashion to provide that context:

New Teen Titans (V10 collects the branded Crisis crossover issues but the rest that take place during/after Crisis will be in V11 but its not been announced yet, though you can get those issues in the upcoming Titans omnibus V4 which will collect V10 and material that will be in V11 and V12).

Green Lantern Section 2814 V3 (which has the Green Lantern issues plus #199-200)

And Saga of the Swamp Thing V3-4 which has all of American Gothic.

Why are comics so popular in France but looked down upon in America?

Loaded question, try again

French make better comics.

actually, it's just a part of their culture, they have always had kid and adult comics and everyone is aware of them. In America almost everyone thinks of it as a kids thing. You have no clue how many people I talk to that don't even know that they can be more than superheroes. And almost no one knows of the more intellectual things like science and math comics, or biography and history comics.

>science and math comics, or biography and history comics.
These things exist?

Do they like Donald Duck or Carl Barks comics?

yes
pretty sure all french grow up reading Tin Tin, Astrix and Donald Duck.

Americans has treated comics as either trash for children or things only read by geeks and nerds ever since the 1950's. The French see them as just another form of media

aren't there like 20 something creepy archives?

Yep 29

29+ and counting

>yes
Can you recommend any?

>I also wonder if the year'd anniversary editions were DC's attempt to get more book store shopper interested in the deluxe editions, like making them anniversary editions makes them more desirable or collectible, like it imparts a sense of "this has a tradition of being good" or something.
People on another board noticed that there were a lot of "Series Omnibus: New Edition" 's in the past year. They speculated that rather than just do another printing, DC solicited them in regular solicitations to make it look like they were printing more, especially since this year (with AT&T's cutbacks) the collected editions department hasn't been able to put out as much.
Those renumbered anniversary editions theoretically contain design plans that they could easily alter for CurrentYear, and pad their numbers up

>pretty sure all french grow up reading Tin Tin, Astrix and Donald Duck.
Are those in newspaper comic strips?

The Comics Code Authority didn't have power outside of America.
The CCA is the reason that comics are, in the minds of the masses, only ever Superhero comics, and only ever for kids.

French actually call them BDs, but "comics" mean superhero comics.

>BDs
Is that frog for "Graphic Novel"?

Yes, but anything about superheroes are called "comics"

The one that someone here showed me was Alpha by Jens Harder, it blew my mind. It's a book about the evolution of the universe, the earth and life. Stops just before humanity, which the second book will cover.

The Dialogues is a comic written and drawn by a Clifford Johnson who is a cosmologist. It's just a book that is different people in conversation, talking about science and some philosophy of science. The art is a bit rough but quite good for someone who just learned to do this all while on sabbatical.

There are a few about the lives of dinosaurs, not really full science books there. And I want to get the Richard Feynman biography comics, not sure how much science is in that.

I used to have bookmarked a list of science comics, if I find it I'll post the link

do you feel like asking any questions that aren't a google search away?

This isn't the list I looked at before, but it shares many of the comics from the list I remember

I found it quite interesting that CERN recently had a conference about how to use comics more effectively in communication and teaching. Apparently, CERN employs a residence cartoonist to document stuff and I assume help others with projects that cartooning could aid in

which means at 49.99 msrp it costs 15 hundred for the whole set.

I already read some comics and saw the movie. I just don't see the appeal

This is why I never finished collecting the Complete Peanuts/settled for the mass market "Big Book of Peanuts" that collect everything by decade save for the Sunday strips, in mass market friendly omnibus size format.

That's cool. I don't really recognize any of these authors or artists, but I'll take a look.

you can't scrounge up a little more than 100 a month?

Don't forget Uncle Eerie's archives

That's why I buy TPBs and HCs on Ebay.

If you take the time to look, you can find a lot of shit cheap or at least 20-40% off.

BD could stand for any number of horrible things if I don't know what the letters stand for.

Where? It's still sold out in IST and CGN.

Most people on Yea Forums say Bande Dessinee. Don't know why user was trying to be so cagey about it.

Because how else does he get to be an elitist about it? I had no idea about "BD" either until now.

>elitist
what a fucking laugh
expecting someone to do a google search to find basic information before coming into the only thread where people actually know and care about comics, makes me elitist. go cry about it.

honestly dude, expecting someone to just google 2 letters and come up with any value is asking quite a bit. Google isn't THAT good

i did it myself. i googled BD, went to the wiki disambiguation, and found what it was.
even if I didn't already know what BD was it would have been the same process. how can someone be into comics and not know how to search for things? half this hobby is spent on wikipedia finding out about collected editions.

you are assuming he knows what words he's looking for. You expect him to know that foreign language words are what he is looking for? Get real.

are you kidding me? LOOK at the screenshot I took. the words "comics" is right there.

Pretty easy to simply say "Bande Dessinee" when asked the very first time what BD meant, shorter than sending people to Google as if two letters are gonna turn out the same result everywhere.
But you do you, my dude.

Attached: file.png (1276x944, 204K)

ya, and that is assuming he will go to wikipedia first and not just skim names but also go through all the descriptions. Bande Dessinee is a word that comes up very infrequently on Yea Forums, quit getting your panties in a bunch about someone asking a legitimate question

good job you're halfway there! now you scroll down to wikiedpia, and ta-da!
gee what a tall task this is. if anything he should be thanking me for showing him how to find things he's looking for. now he won't have to wait for the next /shelf/ thread to see what issues an omnibus collects ! wowwee!

Hahahahaha.

The goalpost moving was so hard in this post, that the entire board went offline for a few minutes.

What does "BD French" or "BD comics" turn up?

Bump. Picked up Lemire's The Nobody

Dollar conversion skyrocketed here. Goodbye /shelf/ it was a nice ride

I had the same issue earlier this year, with the added problem that I live in a country with heavy inflation. Thankfully I ended up getting paid more, so I could afford the hobby... Otherwise I would've been in your situation.
I hope it gets better for you! International shipping in particular is the worst when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks Amazon! Very cool!

Yikes... Yeah, we've warned about this before >amazon.com/ (known to manhandle books with bad packaging)
If you can, avoid Amazon at all costs, stick to IST or CGN, they care about the books. Live and learn, I'm sorry about your books.

Based.
I actually ordered Goon libraries vol. 2 and 5 and had them come both shrink-wrapped and in seemingly good condition. Maybe I should take a closer look since I haven't opened them yet.

CONAAAAAAAN

I'm a little pissed about the ugly cover vol. 1, but it is what it is. At least Marvel seems to have upped the amount of the original DM covers.

Attached: CollageMaker_20190812_152936081~2.jpg (4096x3545, 791K)

why are people going so nuts over these?

Because Conan is fucking great. I was eyeing the Dark Horse omnis right before they went out of print and expensive, and was very excited when Marvel started the ECs. That first one got me hooked on Conan and I've been hitting it pretty hard.

Are there any differences in coloring and such between Dark Horse and Marvel editions, or are they editing different material?

They're not recolored to my knowledge, but they're presented in release order when I believe the Dark Horse omnis were chronological, starting with Born on a Battlefield which is like issue #8 or something.

Apparently it was the binding and quality of the cover/back that were bad, a certain company did the first vol as well as some other ECs that came out the same year. I saw complaints of people who bought these ones saying pages became unglued and that the front cover was curling pretty bad. Can't find any pictures but all reviews on Amazon from Volumes that were affected as well as a few message boards all seem to have the same complaint. I saw a few that also said some of the coloring was washed out but again, no pictures I can find at least. The ones that were affected were:
Dr Strange Vol 1: Master of the Mystic Arts
Amazing Spider-Man Vol 18: Venom
Iron Fist Vol 1: Fury of the Iron Fist (Second Printing only)
Daredevil Vol 19: The Root of Evil
West Coast Avengers Vol 1: How The West Was Won

Thankfully I have the old HCs of what's basically collected in the first vol, but I'm hoping that they are either changing the printer or Quad fixes the quality issues after all the complaints they got

Stop bumping the thread man. It goes straight to page 9 without a fight, it’s almost at bump limit. Just let it go..

It's impolite to ignore people. He answered a question.

Yeah, and I'm actually around to read the answer , thank you. I get that some like to keep the thread alive forever, but sometimes questions take a while to be seen.
And anyway good call on those, because I precisely wanted to buy the Doctor Strange and WCA EC's at some point, now I'm hesitant. I'll grab Triumph and Torment as well as the upcoming WCA collection, and look around to see if there's another reprint of the aforementioned trades, in order to prevent a disappointment.

Revival starts good but gets really dumb by the end of it.
That Black Canary had nice art, but I think they had plans to print the entire series as one trade because of the BoP movie

Pages in the Demon Bear Epic feel kinda thin but overall I like it.

pro-tip. You can bump the thread and then delete your bump. That way when we are running out of space we can keep it alive without adding any more posts to the thread.

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bait to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Just recently bought around 40-50 comics this month. First time in years, don’t know why. Found out they’re reprinting the old classics and selling them for only $1 so I jumped at the chance. Have a shitload now of some of the best stories. I also now have the first Spider-Man, the first X-Men, first appearance of Wolverine, First appearance of Deadpool, First Daredevil, and I recently got both the First issues of Spider-Man 2099 and Punisher 2099. I also got some more Spider-Man 2099. I’m on a kick bros.

I also got the first X-Factor and found the original XForce for only $1 as well. I am happy and pleased. Everyone should hop on the “true believers” if you can.

pass. I like full stories, not just reprints of the first version of a character.

Thats what I’m doing with the original Spider-Man 2099 but you’d be hard pressed to find complete full stories at your lcs

THEY'RE STILL NOT HERE YET AHHHHHHHHHHH
