Example: Look at Radar here. He looks fucking cool. And he will never be more than a single panel wonder. And it tears me up inside.

Honestly? At least most Transformers should get two things more often. Human forms to blend among people (either through an auxiliary body or holo avatar), and faceplates that activate to signify that slag hit the fan and it's safeties off.

The worst thing the last year of IDW did was character-assassinate Optimus Prime, and the reboot has his character assassinated from his very first appearance. I'm not sure this is an improvement.

Honestly yeah and I like the reboot but so much of it could’ve been decompressed.

What's the rush? We all know where the story is ultimately headed, it's showing the leadup to the war that makes this reboot unique in the first place. And it's not like we've had to wait a year for all this to happen, the book ships twice monthly.

I'm not in a rush to get to the full blown fighting since that's literally what all of Transformers is and we've seen it a million times. I'm enjoying the world building and political intrigue.

He doesn't really come off as a very good speaker, but this doesn't seem especially dickish to me. I can see how it can be interpreted as such. He appears dismissive of Megatron's concerns. Still to me he's merely pointing out the political realities that Nominus has majority support. Megatron represents a vocal minority, and should the entire government bend over backwards to accommodate their radical views for how society should change just because they love rallies, marches, and some are prone to more disruptive and even violent outbursts?

Op is trying to infuse some reality: more of the actual people support Nominus than Megatron. He's also doing a horrible job of getting that point across. IDW Op never came off as a particularly effective statesman and often not even as a leader, especially during late arcs of the last run. Even he began to admit things like unilaterally declaring Earth part of Cybertron's empire was a bad idea.

Of course we know it's all pretty moot. It doesn't matter what Op says, this is a foregone conclusion. At the same time Megatron is easier to dismiss because we already have big implications last ish that he is not being serious about fixing anything. He's already put his own plans in place and they won't be pretty. But this is to the surprise of no one. We all know how this ends. A shame, really. I like seeing pre-war Cybertronian civilization but knowing how this all ends actually isn't all that fun. I suppose there are ways to make it worthwhile, but all of this feels so dull so far. They toss out a lot of fairly generic scifi stuff and none of it comes off as genuinely interesting.

Forget the last issue, this one just gives up any pretense at all.

Damn, that was fucking trash. I read #1 of the new run when it came out and lost my interest then, only saw this thread by chance.
Coincidentally, I've been rereading Armada from DreamWave and it's every bit as great as I remember it. It's very straightforward, it's better than the show in every way EXCEPT the status quo stories end too soon for me, I wanted more minicon tug of war battles before the start of the end of this run. Also all the art is fantastic and the robots have proper bulk unlike this new TF run's art which while aesthetic and clean, makes the robots too thin imo.
Call me a zoom or whatever but I don't read TF just for robo politics, there needs to be action in TF. Not everything needs tension and high stakes and action but TF definitely does, as well as drama and politics as a backdrop for it. I do not read/watch this stuff to see Fattimus Prime sitting down all day and everyone walking around and flapping their mouthtraps about boohoo and waahhhh, the most action that went on in that issue was the scene with that electric net thing. I'm all for putting a new spin on things but this is pathetic.

And hey, for all I know I just happened to have read the only 2 bad issues in the run so far. Feel free to call me out for jumping to conclusions as I'm only commenting on what I saw so far. In its defense, I literally just finished rereading Armada up to the 5th to last issue before going on Yea Forums for a bit, almost no other TF comic I've seen holds a candle to the DW ones so it's like comparing Superman to a couple of Calendar Mans.

I think it's because in an earlier issue Megatron pays a visit to some OC figurehead to make sure she won't be a problem with his plans for her devoted followers (whom it turns out she could give less of a shit about) and now he's straight up talking openly about his plans. Personally I think it's for the best because it isn't like him suddenly revealing he was going to turn the Rise and Ascenticons into his future Decepticons was ever going to be a shock, right?

In all fairness, with how long it took I thought things were going to be a bit different, even though the end result is pretty much the same.

I am surprised they didn't play with us a bit. I mean there was no reason to make things exactly the same as it's been over and over and over (and over and over) again. Make it seem like Megatron and Optimus might find another option and THEN play it straight. Not sure how that might go over, though.

And of course there's all kinds of plot devices they could have used to suggest things might go different. The most tired and cliche of which is time travel. The old someone travels to the past to set things right bit, makes us think the civil war can be avoided but still fails. At least we have some different factions here. Especially with Alita telling Bumblebee things don't feel right it seems like there's good odds that the Ascenticons won't all roll into a new Decepticon faction. And of course the Rise in the hands of Shockwave, well, there's some wildcard potential here. And we STILL haven't gotten to Starscream schemes yet.

I was afraid we would get an Elita similar to the one from the previous comic (she pretty much acted like the actual Strika while their Strika was basically an extra) but from what it's shown so far she'll probably grow into the familiar G1 character.
Right, all those factions and bots unnacounted for could make this interesting once they come into play, like what happened with Sixshot.

Alright, I'm up to issue 7 and even though it's kind of similar to old RID, it's not hooking me quite the same. Doesn't help that they have 2-3 artists per issue, either. Wish they'd just give the series over to Griffith. His pages are the best. And they keep talking about Seibertron as this beautiful planet but all the city shots or background shots render the landscape in the same color. Background shots especially are bland as hell.
