After re watching the first episode, I really appreciate Mao Mao's character. I feel like any other show would have the MQ try to deny that they were the one to destroy the heart until the sidekick made them admit to it. Mao Mao, however, immediately owned up to it and was prepared to abandon his dreams of being a legendary hero just to stay and protect the town, because he knew in his heart that it was the right thing to do. Sure, he learned afterwards that he could stay and still be a legendary hero, but that doesn't diminish the initial choice he made.

Mao Mao is already a damn fine hero.

I suspect the thing with his family is that they're more akin t mercenaries or sellswords than heroes. They only help people if there's a reward involved, be it money or fame. Mao Mao will have to learn that a True Hero just helps people for the sake of helping people, and maybe his actions will help his family realize this too.

Mao Mao is shown to over exaggerate like crazy. Though I suspect they will be a bit dismissive of him with certain siblings being more on the jerky side. I can see orange picking on him and wizard being snooty.

I don't think Mao's family is actually bad. We've seen how he can exagerate things so at most i think that they do love him, but he's the smaller brother and since they are heroes they are too busy to be there for him.
They may be a bit neglectful on him, having had more experience out in the world, but they aren't antagonistic or bad at heart. The episode would be about his family recognizing him and his accomplishments, an apology for not being there for him as much during his life and acknowledging him as a good hero as legendary as ano other. Mao learning on his end that while one can't change the past, it wasn't on purpose or with malice and that his family does love him, he needs to learn to let go and to keep the good things he's accomplished on his own, finally being on good terms with his sisters and dad without seeing them on top of pedestals but rather as equals.

This. Mao Mao's commitment to his moral code is so damn refreshing. I repeatedly underestimated the show, thinking that the setting, the heroes, the villains, the humor and the sweetypies are going to be lame, even after watching a few episodes. It's more than meets the eye though.

Also at one point Badgerclops seriously fucked up and plummeted, can’t imagine what he did there.

The screaming bugged me at first but I think I just got desensitized to it. It’s definitely a hurdle in recommending the show to others, I will admit.

Having said that I really like all the work everyone is putting into their voices. Im always afraid VAs will phone it in because it’s just a kids show and what do kids care, but stuff like McCollugh hissing when Orangusnake gets frustrated is a cool touch cuz it means he knows what he’s voicing for and he’s getting into the character.

But yeah stuff like Shin not knowing his son’s name, I’d like to think it was intentional but I can’t help but fear the VA was just trying to get out of there with a paycheck ASAP

Shame the second half of the season didn't live up to the first half. It was mostly about equal to the original seasons in general quality IMO, but compared to the first half which was just amazing, it felt like a let down. Also the ending should have been an hour.

It wasn't the amulet's doing, it was him taking out the emotional baggage he always represses out on other people. You're also forgetting that he has a criminal past, commits bribery without a second thought, was perfectly okay with chopping a small child's arm off, shows no concern for Adorabat when trying to spite Mao Mao during Episode 6, enables Mao Mao's self-destructive behaviour, just about everything he does in Episode 16 is selfish and irresponsible and all that's just off the top of my head.
He's wack and that's what makes him a great character
