I love the fact that of all of the solutions to this problem that are available, the symbiote's first impulse is the one that kills the largest number of people, because to it, nobody else but Eddie really matters.

It is in GotG where he is absolute garbage, but so far i don't have any complains about his writing in Venom.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I always felt that giving Cletus robotic legs and pelvis was a cheap cop-out and off-brand for the character. This more skeletal look for his lower body is such a vast improvement in terms of keeping the character on-theme. It's such a smart move.

The colour work on the ongoing Venom series and by extension here has had a lot of smart little moves like that. Keeping to a restricted, specific colour pallet. This is intentional, I'm sure.

Stegman is legitimately one of the couple great artists remaining in Big 2 Capeshit.

It was established in Ewing's New Avengers run that Reed's voice sounds weird to people from Earth 616, which is part of the reason that he maintains that lower-case font. How do you guys envision it sounding? In my mind, I always imagine it having a slight out-of-phase warble, a bit like the protoss from Starcraft.

I imagine it midway between a loud whisper and slurring. Sorta like listening to ASMR without the hissing.
I like that you hear it similarly to the Protoss though, I enjoy their speech patterns a lot. Favorite race.

That explanation makes perfect sense to me. And as we've seen, anyone who previously knew Peter's secret identity who re-learns it immediately regains all of their previous memories relating to it, so Eddie is now back on top of all of that business again.

I know Yea Forums hates Cates and I’ve been eh on his Guardians and the general punk cult persona he cultivates, but damn if this doesn’t show why he’s been selling well (with Stegman being a big part of it)

The story here was good. I haven't been following Venom closely, but the whole god-thing was too much for me.

I like to see Spider-Man and Venom team up. If the writer doesn't fuck up the characterization we can have many interesting team-ups.

I'm glad to see Stegman at this level. He has been on fire for the last couple years. The inker and colorist are really doing a fantastic job. It's rare to see a coherent artistic direction in a comic. There is a visual theme and it works very well.

I remember him from Superior SM, he had different colorist I think back then. But since he began Venom, he has been killing it in the book.

Stegman has a podcast he's been doing lately, and Cates has been on a few episodes. Listening to the way the two of them talk about their creative process on this series, you can tell that they're not only really collaborative but also good friends. The best writer/artist teams are the ones who really know how to play to each others' strengths and take advantage of what the other has to offer, and that's definitely been the case throughout their collaboration on Venom, and now here.

Here's how I'm mapping it out in my head. In the current iteration of universe 616's history, you had Knull existing in this formless void before anything else existed. Then existence springs into being; Galactus ejected from the remains of the previous universe, Eternity takes form, and matter is spewed out of the big bang, filling that formerly-empty space which Knull had enjoyed.

I suspect that Normie does by now; he and his grandfather were both bonded to the Carnage symbiote after Norman re-learned Parker's identity, and they were going after Peter's nearest and dearest. I imagine that Normie learned what was up during all of that.

The problem with that line of logic is the start of a given parallel universe in Marvel is a wave of Celestials spewing forth from the origin of existence literally constructing time and space as they spread outward on behalf of whatever the current iteration of the multiverse is. You can't exist in empty space before that because there isn't space, or even time, to exist in before that.

There are non-parallel dimensions you could exist in, or you could exist between dimensions, but Knull seems bound to a particular universe.

Also if he was capable of existing outside of time, then he wouldn't still be fucking trapped because he would have been returned to the start of the 8th multiverse with his knowledge of his activities in the 7th as he would have survived in the nothingness between multiverses, meaning he would have been a significant point of divergence in the recreated timeline. Why the fuck would he recreate all the shit that led him to be trapped in the new timeline?

I genuinely hope he just gets retconned as some sort of ancient evil god just fucking lying.

That stopped being a thing when Carnage first got introduced. Symbiote offspring are 2x faster, stronger, more durable and less susceptible to their inherent weakness compared to their progenitor.

The Carnage symbiote has always been stronger than Venom. Though technically Carnage is being held in containment by Alchemax somewhere. Cletus is rocking the Symbiote God's personal suit in this story. Why he's still calling himself Carnage, I don't know. Hoping Carnage and Cletus reunite by the end of this story after Knull obviously betrays him.

I'm pretty sure most of his knowledge of GoTG comes from vague remembrances of DnA and the movies.

Carnage is more resilient due to his specific special abilities vis a vis shapeshifting and regeneration. Symbiotes tend to accrue advanced abilities with successive generations true.

However, Venom was portrayed as physically stronger than Carnage originally. I'm not aware of that ever actually changing. Carnage is dangerous due to his abilities, not physical strength.

That's untrue - Venom's line is unique, and Carnage is an aberration, as is Toxin.
When Toxin was first introduced they even made a stink about how powerful he was supposed to be.

Yeah, that's pretty much it still. Technically he shouldn't have the font always because he has versions of himself scattered across every universe, but I guess every single one of them retains his Ultimate accent and isn't naturalized.

This is a great first issue, it establishes the premise very quickly and gets everyone up to speed and more or less lets the audience know what they're in for. Right off the bat we know the main conflict, who are the major players and what's at stake.

I get that Knull is still incredibly divisive but this is a near-perfect first issue for an event and Cates is damn fine writer, maybe one of the best in the business right now.
