Obviously there are exceptions, Killing Joke is the one where it sticks to the logic and consistency even when his previous actions are in contradiction to his current ones, the breakdown at the end is organic and built to, Catras is just shit needs to happen for the plot so she's suddenly consumed by a need to get back at Shadow Weaver or something. You can make her do anything from hug Scorpia(Because she needs love and is desperate for approval) to hit her in the face(Because she reject loving figures thanks to Adora) because there's no consistency to her character arc, its just she's DAMAGED and thus does whatever might work at the time.

Both the Joker and Catra are very basic borderline personality disorder characters. They are real to people's life experience with broken people, and, consequently, are engaging as characters.

Glimmer has grown away from needing permission from her mother. As in needing to feel angry and in rebellion, as if she were "getting away with something" in order to find self motivation for action. She has moved towards being self motivated, usually by standard power of friendship spiel, but still, and has essentially become the leader, in her own mind, that she always was. Angella was right that she was a coward, and was allowing her daughter to make all the hard decisions for her, while still maintaining the empty anger and wise appearence to protect her own feelings. I feel that Glimmer and Angella's relationship is actually the best written relationship in the series, as it totally comes out of left field in this type of medium. By "protecting" Glimmer, Angella was really forcing her to live Angella's unfulfilled hopes and desires. It's that deep level of subconscious manipulation that exists in every relationship, and I was blown away that the writers were actually good enough to notice what they were putting their characters through.

In the io9 interview, Stevenson said Catra wanted to stay in the nu timeline because she wanted to hide from all the decisions she had made after Adora left.

Not even Catra thinks she did nothing wrong. She just would rather die than admit it to anyone else.

The rest of the galaxy outside of a solar system doesn’t really have any substantial effect on the system’s inhabitants, so any weapon that can take out an entire galaxy needs to do something that takes out each individual solar system.

I can think of four major ways to achieve that:

Hordak was abandoned by the only "family" he's ever known and now tries to work harder than ever to prove his family that they were wrong, if only so he can regain the life he once had. He doesn't want glory or fame, he just wants to go back to the way things used to be.

Can I just say that I loved how Catra followed her mother's teachings and manipulated Hordak so well, possibly to the point she's probably broken him. It's almost like she instinctively found the chink in his armor(the same one Catra herself has) and punched a knife through, the sharp point being about why you should never trust people because they'll only use you.

I bet you, under all that hope of reconciling with Horde Prime and proving himself, Hordak has a deep undercurrent of anger for Horde Prime and him being used and then thrown away when he wasn't good enough.

Hordak's path to redemption of sorts is clear, but I'm still a bit foggy on what Catra's will be. The inclusion of Tunglashor and Mara gives her a perfect excuse to bring in Snakemen and/or New Adventures stuff.

I dunno much about NA lore, so beyond having Crita as maybe the old She-Ra's antagonist who returns, and maybe bringing the Mutants with her, I dunno how they could implement it
But the Snakemen is a much easier prospect. In the old continuity, they had a long history with the Horde, with King Hiss having animosity for Hordak, and various Snakemen pledging allegiance to the Horde in their masters absence. You could play a bit with that, I think, since I'm sure some Snakemen might find that they'd be more willing to remain Hordesmen whole most would probably go back to Hiss

Even then, all of the season 2 and 3 episodes build on what has been established in Season 1. It really makes no sense without watching that first season.
