They wanted to make their own Shrek. Problem is they didn't seem to understand what made Shrek good.

Happy part was he found love at the end with his friend!

They had an excuse to put REM in a Disney movie

>dreamworks is eating our lunch, lets desperately throw shit at the wall and see if we can make it stick

This doesn't make any sense you faggot
They were thinking they'd make a cute film based on an idiom everybody knows and they were successful

>This doesn't make any sense you faggot
How so?

Not only did they want to beat Dreamworks, they wanted to prove that they can make a successful CG movie without Pixar, who’s contract was almost up at the time.
When they realized they couldn’t, they decided to just buy Pixar, and have them show em how it’s done.

Their animators tried to make it a flop so that CGI wouldn't take over their 2D works.

Well...

>When they realized they couldn’t
And yet it beat out every single 2D release they did throughout the entire 2000's...

>This doesn't make any sense you faggot
It makes total sense.

"We can be edgy and subversive like Dreamworks too!"
Did you actually watch the fucking film?

Apparently not because the film was a flop both critically and commercially.

>2D release they did throughout the entire 2000's...
That's not much of a bar

It's a fable not an idiom

Props to them using the superior aint no mountain high enough (not by meme lord)

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

Wasn't the main character voiced by a nerdy black guy?

I like it...

They weren't

Are you me? I legit went just for the song. I have never felt so retarded

I liked this movie

Eisner turned Mark Dindial's movie into Dreamworks ripoff.

Chicken Little earned $314 million on a $150 million budget.
Lilo & Stitch made $273 million on an $80 million budget.
Brother Bear made $250 million on a $46 million budget.

So Chicken Little earned more but offered pretty much no return on investment which is what killed its sequels.

The problem for Disney is that they let the main studio's films with their bloated budgets dictate the direction of the company rather than let the Orlando studio continue to do their own thing.

>What the fuck was Disney thinking when they made this?

How big of an asshole can we make the dad and his so-called friends?

Same

Pretty sure it was Zack Braff.

I remember that porcupine being in all the promotional material, even dancing with the main characters in the trailer. Then is relegated to a singular joke in the movie. I think it was the first time I comprehended that some trailers lie to you.

2D animation was pretty much dead when Chicken Little became a box office success and Treasure Planet bombed.
Disney had a chance to bring back 2D by making Frozen in 2D, but they didn't.

I remember everyone I knew really liking it as a kid, me included, what was wrong with it? I'd be asking that question about shit like Home on the Range instead

If that's true, why hasn't Disney made any new 2D movies lately? When I was a kid I just thought Disney owned Pixar, (this was before they actually did,) and I just assumed Pixar was their 3D studio and main Disney handled the 2D stuff. Everything had its place. So if they need Pixar to do 3D, why does Disney Animation also do 3D?!

because it looks good as H E C K

Ikr, the nude scene was way over the top.

>$150 million budget
Holy shit, they spent THAT much? It looked a cheap hack job even back when it came out.

I liked it fuck you.

>Chicken Little earned more
The distributor can only take back about half of the box office by sharing another half with the cinemas, so Chicken Little is barely profitable but the other two did. Also Lilo & Stitch sells better in merchandise.

Let's extract sime money from our artists training.

>This doesn't make any sense you faggot
They both had an "edge" to them. I think you could say the same thing about the first Toy Story as well. Chicken Little's problem was it tried to have an edge but was too mean-spirited about to.
>based on an idiom everybody knows
I hadn't even heard of the original story until this film came out.

"We need something to make money so Pixar won't leave us."

I liked the bit where the fox got mind broken and since everyone liked her better that way they just left her like that

This movie ruined that song for me.

For some reason I was weirdly obsessed with this movie when I was a young lad. I don't know what the fuck I was thinking.

That's the power of a corporate media giant's marketing tactics.
Trailers are cut and spliced in such way to make it look like there is more to a movie then the bits being showed to you. Other then the twists, there really isn't, but by that time you're already 45%+ into the movie.
Once you come to the realization that you've been hit by the fabricated hype train, that's when the buyer's remorse kicks in.

Schlager stars Keld & Hilda is the Danish VAs of the alien mother & father

>How can we make more money than our last two movies?
And it worked

>Disney had a chance to bring back 2D by making Frozen

whew this revisionist history, you only wanted frozen’s success but forget how disney tried to make a 2D comeback with Princess and the Frog which underperformed and changed Tangled’s 2D hybrid blueprint into full blown 3D

>And it worked
It made more money but it was more expensive so they got less profit from it

Shrek wasn’t constantly shitting on its MC.

I dunno.
I guess it was a recipe for disaster.

Chicken Little is a Disney version of the "Dreamworks is all pop culture references" meme.

Remember when they advertised it with Dragostea Din Tei, but the song never played during the movie?
youtube.com/watch?v=qayybj1Iqbo

>thinking
Holding them up to a high standard, aren't you?

I went to see Princess and the Frog in a cinema. In retrospect I wasted my money.

>dat "gag" at the end.
Nick Wilde was going to have same fate.

Meet the Robinsons and American Dog were going to be flops until Lasseter stepped in.

reminder that they almost went with a memey version of rapunzel where she's turned into a squirrel and a real world girl replaces her before glen keane slapped some sense into them

no you didn't. not anymore than you wasted your vote when your candidate doesn't win.

american what

A four course meal of no sirree!

American Dog is the movie Chris Sanders was making before Disney kicked him out and turned it into Bolt.

Yea Forums dissapoints
Read about it. The whole production was a shitshow and included forcing 2D artists to learn how to animate 3D, a shit rework of a mediocre script and suits deciding that the movie should be about aliens halfway through while the director was on vacation. The pop songs and stupid filler were there to pad out a shit movie, that's it. It's a great example of a car wreck of a project.

t. cared way too much about a crap movie

i feel like RBTI suffered similar problems.

>movie gets terrible reviews and zero Oscar nominations
>Disney still finds a way to shill it at the Academy Awards

I will never forgive them for this

It seemed that happily ever after

It practically broke even when you subtract distribution, overhead, taxes, etc. Plus if it doesn’t have merchandise to fall back on like Cars, Lilo & Stich, Frozen, etc, then it’s not that much of a profit.

Was happy everyone was after me!

Lasseter was also convinced Tangled would be a flop and had Disney cut back on promotion and merchandising.

Thank christ. Tangled is like one of the best things in Modern Disney and the post-movie material has just made it better and better since.

>dude CGI is cheaper

>Holy shit, they spent THAT much?
CGI is fucking expensive.

Tangled cost 260 million.

>sees 00's equivalent to fortnite dances
>MOOOM WE NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE

the absolute state of so called "boomers"

bold move, wasting your lunch so dreamworks can't have it

>If that's true, why hasn't Disney made any new 2D movies lately
Look up the box office returns of all of their 2D movies from the year 2000 on.

Then look up the return of the very first Ice Age. Only the first one, though, don't look at the sequels, a man's heart can only take so much.

IIRC, Tangled was more expensive to make than the fucking first Avengers movie.

True, but it was their first big CGI outing, this was when they were testing the waters before going all in. They tried more marketable stuff with Bolt, but that only broke even too, it really wasn't until Tangled swooped in with its damn good box office and spectacular merchandising sales that they hit their stride, and then they got buried in a mountain of money by Frozen. Around the same time as Tangled, they were losing money over Princess and the Frog Merch.

That is correct. Moana cost more than Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America First Avenger, Thor Dark World, Ant Man, Possibly Dr Strange? And cost as much as Spider-Man, Far From Home.

Frozen also cost more than all but those last two.

Tangled's budget got so high due to all the delays it had

Tangled is an outlier because of how long its production took. CGI's still definitely more expensive, though.
