It'll be the exact same as Gru but with a higher voice. He'll speak in short bursts and share the light with about 6 other characters who can space out his dialogue. You people act as if Mario is going to yap for 90 minutes straight.

Yes as this is a budget film, much cheaper then The Secret Life of Pets 2, think Mirai-tier budget rather then Minions-tier budget.

Don't worry about the staff, it's being done by people who came out of Wakfu/Dofus and Miraculous LadyBug and not Illumination's in house staff so you know it's going to be good.

he didn't even have a backstory in NES but toadstool and king koopa sure did, Zelda is a rip off of toadstool the only time Mario ever got fleshed out was in the cartoon and the movie.

Same. I love Martinet but Cap'n Lou and Walker Boone will always be the default voices that play in my mind when I imagine Mario talking beyond short phrases

1 and 3 isn't particularly special.
2 is the only true GOAT game the mainline series had and while it is better then 3D World that's honestly as far I'd go.

CTR and its remake beat the fuck out of any Mario Kart out of the water though.

When Mario does his one liners, his enthusiasm often brings his pitch up by a lot. Considering that Charles is a genuinely ace voice actor, I can see him being able to bring the accent to a speakable range when asked. However, this is implying that illumination would even direct him that way. I can already see the studio making him talk overly enthusiastic all the time, no matter what.

That said, if they're unsure Charles is fit for a feature length role, they'd likely invite him to a casting call. My money says that he'll be their pick, though.

While I hate Illumination the fact Miyamoto is breathing down their necks give slight hope that it won't be totally fucked.

But then again Miyamoto gives the weirdest input. His advice were all the worst parts of DKCR but also helped Splatoon be the fun game it is now.

A Mario movie should take notes from Paper Mario and have Mario barely talk, using the supporting cast as the narrators. Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Bowser (and whatever other enemies they make for the movie) should be the main speaking roles, with Mario interacting with minor lines or with his body language and actions.

That works fine in a video-game because the character you play as is just a vessel of the player, but in a film where the individual doesn't have that same connection it doesn't really work.

Over 90% of Martinet as Mario at these events (and probably in general) is improv. It just sounds like he rambles a bit while he thinks up something to riff off of for a few minutes. His non-Mario VA work suggests he'd be just fine at it.
