lets just talk about Subzero

Direct-to-video movies are always extended episodes that don’t add anything. The Batwomen were hot though.

Wasn't that what Sub-Zero was?

It wasn't made in the 90s. After the 90's, cartoons went down the potty.

Time passed and quality dropped. You forgot Batman Beyond Return of the Joker. I'm counting it and that shit was amazing.

That was a Batman Beyond movie.

I guess I should say most of the time direct-to-video movies of cartoons are like that but there are exceptions.

>what happened with this movie?

>Changed several of the most prominent voice cast, including the Penguin
>Cheap animation beneath even a typical episode of The New Batman Adventures (shouldn't a movie look BETTER than en episode of the show?)
>That awful, horrific, excruciating, completely out of place "SAY YOU NEVER" music video in the middle of the movie

They left this one off of the Batman TAS blu ray set, even though it included the other two Batman TAS series movies. Might tell you something about how Timm feels about this pile of shit.

>(shouldn't a movie look BETTER than en episode of the show?)

You're not incorrect, but Mask of the Phantasm looks inferior to many episodes of the original animated series.

Especially that part where the cop on the helicopter is rapid-firing his fucking revolver.

It's just as much a BTAS movie serving as an epilogue of sorts for the New Adventures series.

So what executive meddled this one into poo?

I've always seen Subzero as the finale to BTAS.

Timm said he wanted one of the higher end Japanese studios to do Phantasm, but budget constraints forced them to use a more affordable mid-level Korean studio. The movie still looks good, though much of it is strictly "competent" where it could have been "impressive". Return of the Joker probably has the best overall animation of all the Batman DCAU movies.

Too bad the New Batman Adventures shits on Mr. Freeze’s ending.

yeah, MotP still looks pretty good. Some segments look excellent, even. But for sure, they should have decided from the get-go to make it a theatrical project.

I don't remember this one very well, but it can't be that bad

>I don't remember this one very well, but it can't be that bad

You sure about that? THIS happens in the middle of the movie for no fucking reason:

It’s not terrible and is watchable but it feels like a left-over script for the show rather than a movie.

I loved the twist on top of twist.

I'm just saying, there's a guy on the dc animated forum that compiled a comprehensive chronology of every DCAU cartoon and comic tie-in in proper order

but he left out batwomen because he hated it. I mean, it can't be that bad

Begone, boomer

Everything went to shit once capitalism started hitting its peak in 2000-2001.
