This show is so conflicting
I've barely seen any of it but it feels like it plays tug o' war with its more "mature" side and "the fact that it's on Disney Junior" side

What's happening lately in this show?
I was thinking about trying it but ditched that plan after someone said they treated Zira like a chicken and resurrected Scar as hellish floating head of Oz.
Is it still worth watching? Like TCW did?
It blows my mind there are adults here who take the time to watch this.
Teaching children that carnivorous animals are evil and should be stopped is bad
Especially since more often than not the ones that do the most damage to any given ecosystem are the herbivores.
The heroes are journeying across Asia to The Tree of Life to get Kion healed after he's bitten by a cobra
I'm certain the creators wanted it to be a more serious series, but Disney wouldn't let them have it, so they had to compromise.
All things considered, the creators have really done the best they can with a show aimed at preschoolers. It's easily one of the most mature ones on Jr. right now.
Why is the Tree of Life is Asia?
I'm sure Zira will be back now, once she discovers Kion and the guard are gone. The timeline currently places the show before Kiara's first hunt.
Because most of the animals they encounter on their quest are indigenous to Asia

I don't like to pull a 'think of the children' card but it does make me uncomfortable.
I've heard they try and retcon it into being a territory thing and make it about overhunting and poaching...but that's not how nature works either.
They don't even seem to push outside the general "Good Predators/Evil Predators" archetypes outside of that one Hyena girl everyone loves.

To be fair I consider mlp to be more mature than lion guard.
I find it amusing how the horse show (assuming that's the show you're referring to) totally blew away the "it's just a kids show" argument and thanks to them each and every kids show must now have DEEPEST LORE and a more mature approach on everything

I mean, shit, it's a fair compromise between what I had when I was 9 (Batman:TAS and SWAT Kats, etc.) and kiddy fluff like...I dunno...Sofia the First.
Vegans are taking over. All animals must eat tofu. Dogs are being forced into it, the lions are next.

Funnily enough Sofia the First ended up getting a lore arc towards the end.
It's spin-off show Elena of Avalor is just straight up lore and story arcs. Heck, in the last arc Elena just straight up hunts down and murders her enemy.
It's on disney junior so it should at least try to be educational.
This whole "animal law" thing only works if some of the animals can't talk.

Horse show is targeted at girls in primary school, 6-9 age range or so. Lion Guard is for pre-school boys.
It doesn't really make things super clear, but the idea seems to be that the Circle of Life says predators can hunt, they just have to stick to their territories (so Lions and Cheetahs in the pridelands, Hyenas in the outlands and Leopards in the backlands) and only take what they need to survive.
