>not bagged & boarded

is the new F4 run any good?

Attached: one yike.png (3840x2160, 350K)

Just read Morrison's X-Men and i'm considering buying it. I need to read more X-Men.

It's alright.
People mostly hate on it because of spiderman, but there's not much to honestly complain about.

Not the best, but nowhere near the worst.

I normally bag and board them, just not for this photo
>is the new F4 run any good?
I like it a lot. I've seen a lot of people complain about how "nothing is happening" or "it's not important" but I really don't care about that. I enjoy the cozy little stories for what they are. This is easily the most I've enjoyed Slott's writing since his early ASM stuff. I will complain about one thing and that's the art. The artists haven't been bad but every other issue has had a different artist. I would prefer they lock up a single artist, but I realize these days not too many artists can manage even 1 book a month.

I've just started collecting floppiez, where do I get bags and boards?

You can buy them on Amazon in groups of 50 or 100. You should be able to buy them at your LCS though. Mine charges 20 cents for 1 bag+board, or free if the comic is on my pull list.

a good LCS should have all of them bagged and boarded before selling, some shit/large ones charge like .50 for bag and board
i tried ordering some comics online from ebay and they came bagged/boarded but it's probably a hit or miss

bcwsupplies.com or amazon for online

Everything I got this week
-First time reading JLD, was surprisingly good
-PoX was amazing, also it literally sold out at my LCS an hour after opening
-Green lantern annual was meh, only read it for Morrison and I was in completely in awe at the shit art
-first time reading carnage, holy shit it was edgy as fuck

First time reading DC after Nu52, not sure if I’ll go back and read anything else

Attached: 9F59331C-0C1C-4D4B-9316-86046BBC92BA.jpg (2537x2986, 2.97M)

>is the new F4 run any good?
pretty good, but you can tell Ben Grimm is his fav character, so if that is not up your ally you are a complete faggot

I have been enjoying Captain America until this recent issue where Coates went total Bendis. I don't care that it was a full woman team breaking him free but 4 pages of banter over what to call a women team was fucking terrible. I seriously thought I was reading the worst Bendis tropes line up

I got this, ASM#4 Original Sin (first appearance of Silk), Immortal Hulk 12, and Superior Foes of Spider-Man 4 and 5

Attached: 5B1A696D-ECBB-4CEB-BED2-5C66B0EBF08E.jpg (1536x2336, 1.24M)

>-First time reading JLD, was surprisingly good
Tynion had to find someone to write the issue for him cause his prose and dialog suck ass. So yeah, I agree it turned out good
>-Green lantern annual was meh, only read it for Morrison and I was in completely in awe at the shit art
it was the only issue of his run that flopped, read the rest of his run it is tons better

>but you can tell Ben Grimm is his fav character
Speaking of which, I loved Slott's Thing series
>I have been enjoying Captain America until this recent issue
Honestly man I've disliked every issue. The art is terrible, it's the most decompressed comic I've ever read, and it's a retread of countless Cap storylines. Maybe Coates is a good writer but nothing he's done in comics has shown me that.

I readily admit I am only buying it for the spectacular Alex Ross covers and part of me wishes he would stop doing the covers so I can get off this ride.

Attached: asd.jpg (1280x1969, 949K)

I have never read a lot of Cap before, and yes it is very decompressed but I think that WORKS in this setting where the world still doesn't want to trust him. Though I don't think I would buy it cause the decompressions isn't worth it, it is enjoyable to read

I dunno, I felt like I was reading the same issue for 6 months in a row. But hey, if you like it you like it.

You say you haven't read a lot of Cap; have you read Brubaker's run?

only his Secret Avengers and not the full run there either. But I liked that. Like I said I agree it is decompressed and would not spend money on it, but it is a good read for pirating.

also, reposing my new stuff since the thread I made for it died so soon.

To the user that shared Alpha, thank you so god damn much, this is one of my fav comics of all time now. Shit is amazing how he entwines human culture ideas of the evolution of the universe with what really happened, absolutely brilliant

Attached: new july 19.jpg (3397x2962, 1.5M)

I definitely recommend reading Brubaker's Cap. At least up until Captain America Reborn. Some of the best superhero comics ever put to paper for my money. Cap has a lot of other runs worth recommending but if you only read one, read Brubaker. Top tier espionage comics.

Going thru the latter part of Dark Horse's Conan. First Conan the Barbarian (2012 by Brian Reed), then Conan the Avenger, then Conan the Slayer, then finally Conan the Savage.

My standards for Conan are pretty low so I'm sure I'll enjoy it and then pick up the Dark Horse omnibuses.

I just finished the new Conan the Barbarian omnibus. It was good from end to end.

The Roy Thomas stuff? Yeah that stuff is unbeatable.
I was shocked how bad Conan Road of Kings was, since it was penned by Thomas. To be fair the artist was terrible so that's not all Thomas' fault, but still. Thomas will be penning Savage Sword #10 coming out in October, so I'll be checking that out to see if he got his groove back.

Been buying a bunch of back issues recently. It's a whole new world. So much shit that hasn't been collected. I'm kind of obsessed with Rick Veitch and Steve Bissette right now.

Just finished Jaka's Story and everything I have of Chris Warner's Black Cross.

I only bag things above a certain price. I'm not going to waste my time on stuff I'm getting from the 50 cent box.

Attached: 20190804_205134.jpg (1200x2302, 2.12M)

Speaking of back issues

youtube.com/watch?v=SYyCkgNouiI&t=0s

Man, the comic shops where Piskor lives are hip as fuck!!! I love these videos and also hate them because I end up wanting EVERYTHING I see. And for a damn quarter! I also hate watching these videos because I think I know a lot about comics and then Piskor will bust out 100 comics I never knew existed, never were or will be collected, and he'll know everything about them. Man. The internet always finds a way to knock me down a peg. There's so many fucking comics out there...

i wish my LCS had a quarter bin

Bodlam! looks interesting. Mind posting an interior?

HOW DO I STORE MY FLOPPIES WITHOUT HIDING THEM AWAY IN SOME SHITTY BOX IN SOME CORNER

Kayfabe is definitely what got me into buying floppies again. I'm actually a couple of hours away from the Pittsburgh area, so I might start following shops around there to catch a quarter sale.

Me too. Mine has a 50 cent bin that is almost always either empty or trash.

It's Bedlam! actually. A two-man anthology of Rick Veitch and Steve Bissette. I think these are collected works from fanzines and other anthologies that were originally in black and white. Really cool shit.
Here's a Steve Bissette page.

Didn't attach the page.

Attached: 20190804_214811.jpg (2500x1892, 2.22M)

And here's a Rick Veitch page.

Attached: 20190804_215521.jpg (2500x1953, 2.26M)

Bagged, boarded, shelf with a big bookend

Still waiting on my haul, a whole month later, so nothing to report yet. Goddamn I it I hope it finally arrives this week, fucking maritime shipments.
Despite Slott's utter misuse of Galactus, it's been alright. Very episodic for sure. I've noticed a lot of people in normie circles complaining about Franklin's emo phase and nerfing, but it hasn't bothered me because for once in their lives they're treated like they're supposed to be: teens and preteens, not adults in children's bodies.

My "virtual" pull list (until I can buy the trades and oversized collections of each) currently consists of

Immortal Hulk
Doctor Strange
House of X/Powers of X
Green Lantern
Die
Outpost Zero
Seven to Eternity
Secret Warps miniseries (it ended this week)
History of the Marvel Universe
Guardians of the Galaxy (only to roast the fuck out of it)
Fantastic Four
Captain Marvel
Infinite Dark
StarCraft Survivors (and every other SC miniseries by Houser)

Rad

OK Piskor, we know you shill these thread, quit making us all plebs I love this stuff

holy shit, this must be the origin of Tyrant. God damn it Bissette get off your lazy ass and restart this series already. You have been promising this for 10 years!

Attached: tyrant1.jpg (650x986, 203K)

Oh nice Cretaceus! Always meant to read those.

>Secret Warps miniseries (it ended this week)
the series was mostly boring but it fucking delivered in the final issue and I was laughing my ass off for the whole thing.
>History of the Marvel Universe
this was amazing, I am really loving how Marvel is behind these things. It's nothing indie like Piskor did with Grande Design but it was still really cool
>Captain Marvel
I am enjoying the current run quite a bitl
>Infinite Dark
went out like a wet turd. I really enjoyed the series but it ended terribly.

Attached: secret warps ego.jpg (1192x1833, 838K)

>What are you reading /shelf/?
Spider-Man epic collection volume 7

Attached: Recent Purchases 072819.jpg (3877x2073, 1.56M)

Buy some frames, cycle the nice covers around.
Get some Christmas themed issues, or those monster variants DC did a few years ago.

goddamn why is the xmen epic that ends claremont's run out of print

>went out like a wet turd. I really enjoyed the series but it ended terribly.
I don't think I've read the final issue! That's disconcerting.
Also yeah Secret Warps was fun, a lot of its appeal comes from the fact that it looked just like the merge draw threads in here, except taken to a extreme (and canonized). Just insane. I'm buying the Infinity Warps and Secret Warps trades as soon as I get another chance.

Attached: weapon_peace.jpg (500x810, 222K)

I've lived in my place for almost 4 years and never really wanted to make it "home". I have finally started going through all my stuff, sorting, throwing away crap, and putting stuff up, and this includes finally doing shit with my floppies. So I had to buy 4 bags 100 of boards and I have been putting two issues of comics per bad, with 1 board in between. I had a lot more floppies than I expected and some I forgot (Like some issues of Superior Foes of Spider Man). But now my drawers are full of floppies and for my continued collection I will have to get some long boxes...

Still, I guess it's good to finally call this place home...even if I don't really want to.

Is this for EU and UK?

Worldwide shipping, but there's an UK version as well: alibris.co.uk

>Who drew this?
not sure, but it's a cover for issue 4
>What do you think of the ongoing so far?
I like the concept but I really dislike how the doctor talks, it's both unrealistic and really forced. I ended up with the cosplay cover and wasn't my fav but it was the one in my file so I took it.

anyone think The Seeds will ever get finished?

it fucking better! god damn, it could have been an eisner winning comic but nope completely dropped the ball on it. I loved the design and style of it so much, such a shame

Attached: Seeds.jpg (400x607, 41K)

tell me about it. I can't exactly call it the best comic of 2018 if it never gets finished! but man it was looking like the best comic of 2018 for a while

>previewsworld.com/Catalog/AUG191326
Nvm, I found his name.

I don't really like the interior art, but the story seems interesting to me. At the least, I want to read the next one. My vampi kickstarter volumes still haven't come in yet, though.

>Who drew this?
Guillem March

>My vampi kickstarter volumes still haven't come in yet, though.
what is this?

First time reading Preacher. What a great fucking book

lads I love comics so much

Dynamite hosted a kickstarter, and I ordered some artbooks from it.

Attached: vampi.png (1343x616, 557K)

nice classic statue. How much was it?

The first step is admittance.

I was running out of money at that point, so I just got some artbooks instead of the statue. The statue was $200 iirc

I live in a big city and all my shops have dollar boxes but only filled with 90s to modern stuff and nothing really obscure, so it’s good for collecting old Vertigo/Wildstorm stuff but not much else

Same. My LCS only has mainstream stuff

man, I am in a very small city and my LCS has a ton of obscure stuff and I am so happy I have found some of my favorite comics from it

I'm liking it too, but i understand people don't liking it or getting bored. The fact that it is too decompressed is a more than fair critique, Coates should undestand that comic books aren't novels.

>buying modern sjw marvel comics
yikes. shouldn't you save up that money for the sex change instead user?

My haul for the past odd week.

real good stuff

They're both masters. Though Rick's art kind of suffers when he stops using duotone board. And he's now a 9/11 truther if you care about that.

Didn't he retire?

He's right though. There's never been a better time to start reading older books, because almost every book has a definite cut off point where you can ignore it going forward. For the first time in history it is possible to have a "complete" collection of your favourite characters' stories.

shit, so sorry to hear that. I had some friends have a house burn down and basically all of their stuff but one box burned away. was much salvageable?

he still teaches, and has been promising Tyrant for YEARS, he's been talking to paleontologists to get all his fact in order. I think the problem is he got lost in the research and forgot to do the comic. Pic is a sample

What's Crepax like? I was considering getting some but I saw the first volume is out of print now.

>Brat Pack

do want

/shelf/, is Geoff Johns' Green Lantern really worth getting into?
I'm playing the thought to get Rebirth, Secret Origin, Sinestro Wars, Blackest Night and Blackest Night: Green Lantern.
Is it a satisfying read?

I went to a convention last week and picked up
>immortal hulk trade paperback vol 1
>kill your boyfriend by grant Morrison
>doom patrol issue 36 by grant Morrison (first appearance of flex mentallo)

Nah, plenty of good books out these days honestly everyone who uses sjw unironically can be safely ignored, same for nazi

I personally found it to be good popcorn comics, not much else. It dragged in the middle and I still think rainbow corps is not explored well enough, but it's overall fun and ends decently

>ben Grimm
I met dan slott at the convention (I'm ) and I told him the thing was my favorite character in his run so far. He said he loved writing thing. Dan Slott is a cool guy and got all excited when i told him I've been enjoying his FF run. Probably because I was the first person to talk to him about FF at the convention because everyone wanted to talk about Spider-Man

do you have some examples for really good contemporary ongoings?
pls don't mention Immortal Hulk

Aside from THAT one, check my list
. Forgot to add East of West in there, as well as Analog and Snotgirl (whose release schedule is ass, anyway).

In my opinion of course

>daredevil
>dr strange
>invaders
>spider-man: life story
>green lantern
>wonder twins
>the dreaming
>outer darkness
>invisible kingdom
> Immortal Hulk

july stuff

well, everybody needs some popcorn capeshit every now and then, so i might give it a try.
though i expected a bit more, to be honest. lots of people seem to hold it in pretty high revere.

>tfw just bought a house and won't let myself buy any more books until we're moved in and set up at the end of the month
Goddamn it I have the itch so bad, bros

I love the dressings for Vertical's Tezuka stuff. They're such great looking books. Black Jack and Dororo look fantastic on a shelf.
Have you read Zot! before? After reading Understanding and Making Comics I want to see McCloud in action.

Based dino-comic posters. Since I've read Age of Reptiles I've been meaning to get into more. I'll take note of these.

With all due respect, if you’re going to buy FMA it’s more worthwhile to get the Fullmetal Deluxe editions. They’re beautiful. Unless you just want to read the whole series immediately, in which case the 3 in 1’s are more ideal.

Honestly I don't want to spend that much on a single series, 3in1 are fine by me. Thanks for the heads up tho, the deluxe are great looking.

No I haven't. It's my first McCloud work I was debating with myself if I should get UNderstanding Comics first but wanted to see the man in action.

user I...

>>wonder twins
>le men calling prevented the smart black girl from solving prostate cancer
opinion discarded. you are another cuck who will eat up any sjw garbage

Don't worry, you're right user. I heard EVS extended his campaign once again so you can go contribute and lap his balls a bit.
As for the pertinence to this thread, though? I don't think you belong here, since this is for physical collections and that shit isn't even published yet, so go cry about SJWs elsewhere.

They get sucked off a lot, but I really enjoyed Understanding and Making Comics, and I recommend both even if you don't want to make your own. There's a lot of interesting information in Making Comics for even readers.

This reminds me, Jim Zub published two D&D books, which apparently is selling pretty well. I wonder what /tg/ thinks of them. (It's for kids)

Huh, Zub does love his DnD. There’s one pretty fun arc in Champions that’s reminiscent of DnD too

I want to start Spider-Man, but I'm conflicted of I should go all in and get the omnis or cheap out with the Epics and upgrade later if possible. I hate my collector's autism.

The Weirdworld arc, yeah. They should've devoted a full six arc in that dimension, it was too short despite the hype leading to it (though it was losing sales since it was filling in after Waid).

Can't wait to get my new Mutants copy

It's like the third post I see with the New Mutants Epic Collection. Shit better not sell out before I get a copy.

Dude just go for the easiest one to find

They reprinted the first omni and it's currently in stock.

When’s animal man 30th anniversary book 2 coming out. I bought 1 and feel like a chump

No one knows. I keep myself for buying it because of that. Instead they are just releasing vol 1. in paperback format you on january

Got these all on all 40% off. Finally got a copy of Watchmen since I figured I would find a cheap copy somewhere and it was half off. But I'm now annoyed it doesn't have the extra material (and better colors?) the new editions have.

What's Black Mark about?

>cooler

It won't go oop. It's not dcshit

I haven't read it yet but it's black and white sci-fi sword-and-sorcery story. The storytelling is similar is similar to Contract with God and Prince Valiant. The font/lettering is crude/ugly but that's the least offensive thing in comics.
It's also described as the "first" graphic novel.

I love this unwritten rule that every Yea Forums shelf has to have Watchmen in it.

I didn't have the incentive to buy it outright because it will always be in print, which is why I waited to find it on sale.

Im thinking of upgrading my copy but as says there's no rush at all. Plenty here dont own it just because of its aviablility.

Rip to my LCS. They’re going out of business, so I was able to sag these for $20. Pretty good day.

How the fucl do you collect XMen books, ffs? I did some research at work today and found out that the "new" Epic Collections in TPB format are my best bet but those are apparently still coming out. Is that the best way or is there some secret I have yet to find out? Everyvody recommends me the Claremont run but I ain't got the money for the Omnis. Only vol. 2 and 3 are available on booksetc so I'm clueless

Mine doesn't.

I do not.

Incomplete and cheaper way epic collections mixed with mutant milestones
Incomplete and expensive omnibuses

I don't, the only basic bitch shelf thing I have is All-Star Superman and that sucked, glad I didn't pay money for it

Slott's get Ben Grimm more than any other writer this century

Some of the essentials are OOP though

Kamandi

I had this happen with another Epic Collection (Galactic Storm), which confirms that yeah, they under order sometimes and are forced to wait until it's in stock even if the front face of the store itself says it is.
>Die
Gut
>She-Hulk
Funny how this keeps getting revalued.

Enigma is toppest of top tier stuff. Skreemer is super underrated, great comic.

I got most of these on clearance from BAM. paid like $1-3 each for 7 of them.

>Loeb/Sale Color omnibus
Noice

You got ripped off by that Bunn volume. It was a story so bad that he tried to disown it immediately after it finished

I paid less than 2 bucks for it and I wanted to complete the new 52 run.

finally got all my friends together to play trogdor the boardgame

Reccomend me some horror books preferably in the trade paperback.
Right now I'm reading Scott Snyders Swamp Thing and the immortal hulk. Im also slowly but surely getting through Alan Moores swamp thing.

I decided to get caught up on BPRD/Hellboy recently and just finished The Devil You Know: Ragna Rok. Also got the Abe Sapien Omnibuses and will be digging into those later.

I'd say I'm... satisfied with how things turn out. It's about what I was expecting, although I was a little surprised with Liz being the one to torch everything and then Abe's kids finding her in the crystal, but it makes sense. I hope we get to see some more stuff taking place afterwards, see how humanity acclimates to being the underground-elder-race with the frogs running around. I'm glad the Ogdru Jahad died and Rasputin and the Osiris dudes got screwed out of lording over the new world. Let tomorrow take care of itself, humanity still has a future of its own, even if its underground. I guess it seems like the whole "screw destiny" angle ultimately got subverted, but on the other hand I think the End Times could have gone in a whole other direction if Hellboy and company hadn't been as stubborn as they were.

Attached: screw you guys.jpg (679x540, 64K)

I found the ending unsatisfying. I have decided to pretend Devil You Know didn’t happen.
Hellboy in Hell and BPRD Hell on Earth have endings I like.

Since you like Snyder's Swamp Thing check out Wytches

That's fair. Really there was no way the ending was gonna please everybody, that's just the nature of the beast with this kind of story. Not gonna lie, on some level I'm a bit let down too.

Board split when?

Get Gerber's Man-Thing collection, three volumes.

Why cant all trades have 12 issues? I hate the 6 issue trade.

Usually they combine 2 trades into 1 oversized hardcover which will contain 12 issues. Or later down the line do an 'complete collection' thicc trade with anywhere from 12-25 issues or something.

Basically never buy quarterly trades unless it's a real loser series that will never get a better release. Everything else, you just wait.

why sell one book when you can sell 2?

Shit, why sell 2 when you can sell 3! Boom studio trades have 4 goddamn issues each. Such a joke

never ever ;_; pedophiles who watches cartoons doesn't read comics

Man this catalog has gotten me so pissed off I've even started browsing /r/comicbooks. Not very often since it's so slow, only on the toilet. Sure they're a bunch of boring fuckers who love everything and mention their love of Jason Aaron's Thor in every thread no matter the context, but at least they READ comics and BUY comics and TALK ABOUT comics. It's actually a pretty good place to find news about comics.

I just wish there was a /comic/ board so I wouldn't have to bother. For fucks sake, Pokemon has a board. Mecha has a board! My Little fucking Pony has a board. The entire medium of comic books isn't enough for a board? Okay. Sure. Thank god for /shelf/ is all I can say. It's like our little pocket dimension. A microcosm of a potential comic board.

Because they can release the same product three times instead of one.
>Vol 1 trade
>Vol 2 trade
>Vol 1 oversized trade
And because quite frankly the short trade format is the closest to a floppy a trade-waiter can get, which comes out barely two months after the last issue of said collection. The wait is shorter than 14 months (more than a year) to keep up with a series that at that point might be already cancelled while waiting for trade sales.

What's stupid is that they make new threads for the same shows. Just keep into that thread if there's little to no difference

Fucking r/Marvel is faster than r/comicbooks in fact, but that place is full of people posting fanart, movie discussion, and casual as fuck funny panel posting.
I'm telling you this as someone who has been browsing Yea Forums for more than a decade and migrated from Yea Forums to Yea Forums to /g/ and finally here: cherish what you have here, and try to preserve it. Don't let outragefags and divisionists try to hijack this place from good, heartfelt discussion, because frankly, there ISN'T anything better, beyond trying to fit in into a Twitter circle while avoiding the drama from a huge public place such as that one.

And now even some of the Epics are going OoP

What all of those boards have that comics don't seem to is incredibly powerful autism. The autism on Yea Forums almost always goes towards cartoons..

Recent hauls. Got my phonebook vol 2 today, waiting on Vol 1. Wanted to get Cataclysm Tpb, turns out it’s OoP and goes for close to $100, thankfully my LCS had most of the single issues for cheap

I've been here since 2007 my dude. Yea Forums is fucking dead and it is not getting any better. Most of the time I wonder why the hell I even still browse this place. There's 0 creativity anymore, in meme creation or in thought, and everyone takes themselves so damn seriously.

And it's 99% negativity. Who needs that shit? Yeah the 99% positivity of Reddit is annoying too but I'd rather be surrounded by people who show LOVE for their hobby instead of HATE for it. Also this shit has gotten really heavy lately with all the school shooters and domestic terrorists on the chans. Hiro did the right thing splitting the site but those fuckers will just come over here if chan gets canned.

I was in a thread the other day and this guy linked to a /r9k/ thread where a psychokiller posted pictures of a woman that he just murdered. He fuckin almost cut that girls head clean off. I've seen a lot of gore and fucked up shit in my time but I've never seen something posted in live time, BY the killer. Like who the fuck are we posting with?? I dunno if I need this shit in my life anymore. Sorry for rambling I'm high

nice hauls

Thanks man, really enjoyed Gothic and the Zsasz 2 parter, haven't gotten to the rest yet but I've liked what I've read of Excalibur

If you've been this long, you know there's some gems in the rough underneath the mud, and all you have to do is stuck around, did them, then nurture them. It might sound corny but the only advice I can give is that you shouldn't let it get you, there's plenty of shitheads posting on this site (and this board, even), but this thread proves it's not all that bad. Like you can't really get honest opinions on stuff from Reddit without the concern over getting downvoted or hidden if others don't like it, and sometimes being abrasive just gets people against you instead of the honest brutality that comes with, you know, telling it as it is.
So yeah, you've already tried it and you know how dull shit is over there, the only other option like I said it's Twitter, and while there's some good circles in there, you're still afraid of stepping on people's toes so it's not too fun either.

Is that normal clearance, or is yours closing too?

Yeah you're right. For as shitty as Yea Forums is it's still pretty much the best website. We'll always have /shelf/.

You posted since 07 and only now realize the place is full of degenerates and social outcasts?

I’m filtering Spider-Man out now.
What will become of us.
I’ve been here since 2008 and imo it started to go way done hill in 2012.
Yea Forums was so friendly back in the day it’s hard for me to believe it’s the same board.

it's mostly psychedelic erotic mixed with other genres like horror and sci-fi. He was really pushing the boundaries of the medium for his time, lots of weird panel layouts and stuff. Even the way he tells stories is very weird cause they will go in and out of dreams with no warning, so you have to just go along with the ride. I enjoy it quite a bit but it is quite inconsistent, some stories just really don't work at all, but others are very enjoyable. I'd try some out online first before buying, as they are expensive.

Zub is also the one that wrote the best Conan stuff at Marvel since they required the rights. He should have been the first one with a Conan solo book.
>artbook of just one girl over and over again
ok...you do you
pretty sure less than /shelves/ here have Watchmen. Doesn't mean we don't like it though, it's just easy to get.
sad when they go down but really great for snagging deals.

how was it?

The actual look and thickness of your shelves feels comfy to me.

>but user, the future is 4 and 5 issue trades!
Image releases that little, but I'm praying Marvel doesn't decide to do this. I'm hoping they really keep releasing oversized trades of recent runs too, the Shogun is earning my money because of the latest Avengers events stuff and the recent slurry of collections that way.

How is Lemire's Moon Knight? Any stand-out issues like the Raid-esque one by Ennis?

The last /shelf/ thread died too soon, so I'm reposting what I got last time.

I gotta whole bunch of Venom these past days. The 2nd "annual"'s normal cover is trash, thus I opted for my favorite Variant instead. I also now have my first Marvel Omnibus! I'm more excited about it than I thought I was going to be.
Question: Is the binding sturdy enough to actually read it or is it for more light reading? Like my Calvin and Hobbes Omnis are more for light reads vs me just grabbing one of my C&H books for longer reads.

The inside cover is so awesome!

nah, they're trying to get rid of old shit. stuff that's been on clearance for years.

I also picked up my long awaited Venom box, I've been waiting too long for this, love it.

I already have all of my Venom comics in there, and oi it's still filling up fast. My bottom box has Doujins, middle has misc floppies that I've gathered through the years--normally freebies from Half Price Book store's Comic Book Days and issues that happened to amuse me.

Moon werewolves is great, definitely worth buying. I need to re-read it again soon. I feel like it goes more in a dreamlike direction compared to Ellis's which focuses more on action.

The rest of my mangoos

I can't help it, I am kind of a Campbell fag. I am a big fan of Gen13 and Danger Girl. The artbook is pretty bad though, it's thin and the paper quality is not great. Does not fill me with a desire to check out the rest of the Monograph line but it is a good budget option to get some of Campbell's most famous Marvel covers.

eat shit reddit, all your favorite authors suck and favorite stories are overrated

I definitely prefer the negativity. Reddit shoves trash down their throat and loves it. I want the people who are picky versus the people who love everything.

Man, that looks fantastic. If only the collections weren't so fucking expensive.

>I definitely prefer the negativity. Reddit shoves trash down their throat and loves it. I want the people who are picky versus the people who love everything.

This. The only subreddit I've followed has been (of course) the Venom one. It's so difficult to have an actual conversation with these "It's X so it's immediately good or at least passable." There's so much Cates cocksucking, you'd think he was the only authority on ALL Symbiote and Venom lore. Sometimes there's a mild wake from the shitfest, but they still keep paying for it and will give some form of praise. It's fine if they like that shallow edgefest, I was once 14 too, but man when you want some form of depth in your conversations it's flatlines more often than not.

Attached: 1558927182429s.jpg (250x250, 6K)

Thanks for the heads up on the Monographs, I was looking forward to the Art Adams one

>Like you can't really get honest opinions on stuff from Reddit without the concern over getting downvoted or hidden if others don't like it
It depends on the sub and the fan culture. The comic subs are definitely a hugbox but some of the entertainment-related subs I visit are impressively negative and honest. To the point where Yea Forums's threads are actually less critical.

What are some good french comics to help learn french?

Tintin

>everyone hated Costa's super fun run
gay

how do I get started with tintin

Maannn, it's not a perfect run but it felt good, man. Venom (not X and Symbiote just using the name Venom) was back the through-line arc was great, the supporting cast was fun, there was actual growth, it was going back on track with the themes that Michelinie had intended, it was fun and not afraid to be goofy and the ending is an ending that I'm satisfied with. Just good stuff. Good stuff.

And Costa Daddy Eddie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cates Daddy Eddie

There are collected books, I suppose you'd look for the French version and start at #1

Attached: 51gWR3dcJiL._SX433_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg (435x500, 30K)

Most of the stories are self contained so you can really pick up wherever, but it's generally a good idea to read them in release order.

I really couldn't find any french versions in america

It is acceptable to start with Cigars of the Pharaoh, that is where it really starts to feel like Tintin

Amazon? Ebay?

Should I buy Absolute Carnage #1 tomorrow? It's being shilled to hell and back so I'm wary.

>bagged & boarded
Putting this process behind me was the best decision I ever made in reading comics. I just use the bigger bags I get my pulls in and skip the boards. Some of the bags can fit 12+ comics in it, so I just group them by series in those bags.

Do whatever you want, man. All I know is that I won't. Just know that it isn't a real "Carnage" event since both Cletus and the Red Symbiote are dead. Cletus's corpse is just being piloted by Cates' OC. If you're cool with it, welp.

Attached: 1546027244739.jpg (384x313, 83K)

Stegman's art is dope, at least

He's not my favorite Venom artist, but yeah he's good. I read more for story/characters/themes than art tho. I rather have mediocre/bad art and a good story. Land isn't much of an artist but I've had fun with Symbiote Spider-Man as a side story and can't wait to see how it concludes.

Ah I feel you. Art is very big to me, I'll buy all of Stegman's stuff

Ahhh, a Stegman fan. That's different thing than "eh, if the art is awesome: I'm good." I'm not that deep into capes to have an artist that I follow very strongly, but I get where you're coming from.

Oh yeah there's tons of artists who as soon as I see the name on the cover I'm sold. I'm way more likely to buy a comic for the artist's name than the writer's name. I find that no matter how much you like a writer, writers will let you down. You won't like all of it. But an artist never lets me down, I always know exactly what I'm getting.

>There's so much Cates cocksucking, you'd think he was the only authority on ALL Symbiote and Venom lore
And here I was wondering if you was the Venomfag were really into Cates (I saw the variant cover in your shell), but I didn't want to get negative in case you started praising him... Seems like my worries were unfounded!
How obnoxious it is to see all the dumb praise for the guy! I don't know how he did it but you can see it's like he got people hooked in a brand of edge that pretty clearly has problems (which they acknowledge) but they still give him a pass for it. And him not even talking about Venom but GOTG and cosmic here. It's so grating.
>To the point where Yea Forums's threads are actually less critical.
Isn't r/television taken over by what basically amounts for /pol/tards? Like Yea Forums is already obnoxious about it, but these guys openly upvote every contrarian opinion and bury the rest? I remember seeing something like that before, it was nuts.

I feel like this event will get people angry here at Yea Forums and elsewhere because it's the first one written by Cates where he's including a lot of characters who will most definitely job to his OC, and that won't be well received by most. For as much as people enjoy Stegman's art, there's a point when the tolerance towards Cates for Venom will get tested, and this is it. At least I hope so.
His GOTG already got people in other places already waking up from the spell.

>I find that no matter how much you like a writer, writers will let you down.

Bill Watterson has never let me down!

In all seriousness, I don't believe that every writer has a flawless record (Watterson only had one because he knew when to stop). They at the very least have more of a chance to be given a shot. I read more manga/graphic novels and I tend to just read them from the library or bookstore before opting to buy them.

With the Venom comics--since they're my first "real capes" and not complete stand alone works like Watchmen or V for Vendetta, I've been going by with recommendation lists and getting more familiar with what I enjoy reading. Classic Spider-Man vs Venom? Yeup. Goofy/weird 90s anti-hero Venom? Yes please. 2000s dark and edgefest Venom? Eeech, tried it and dropped it. I followed Cates' interpretation until I dropped it by issue #10 (got the tpb on Black Friday for 50% off and then followed the issues/side issues until then).

>(I saw the variant cover in your shelf)
I know, I know. But I really couldn't pass up a Watchmen x Venom crossover by Gibbons. I didn't get it for that much and never bothered to open it anyways. So...

>Into Cates
I gave the guy's interpretation a chance, I was the "wait and see" person while other Venomfangirls were sperging about his comments about Venom being a "toxic relationship" on Twitter. I didn't mind the comment because...yes...Eddie and the Symbiote teeter to and fro on the "healthy relationship scale," that's part of what makes them interesting to me. He was on Issue #6 at the time, Symbiote had just declared their love and their communication ties were just severed thus Eddie never got that "last message." I wanted to see where it would go. How far would Eddie go to be able to hear his Other again?

What did he do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing but bitch and moan and drag around his Symbiote like a dog that couldn't emote/show that it understood him, and cry to his dad.

If only more people were as rational as you are and dropped the books when they knew shit wasn't gonna get better instead of buying and making excuses for it because "you never know". It's what makes me wonder why the fuck people keep supporting him despite including Knull everywhere, even in a story like Silver Surfer, where he managed to hoodwink people into reading Yet Another Venom Lore Story™, whose only redeeming quality is Tradd Moore.
This is also why I'm glad Yea Forums exists because for all the contrarian shit that gets posted here, at least underneath it all you find people who are honest and can tell when something is legit good or bad without being afraid of not fitting in.

Last week I ordered the first two trades of Delano's Hellblazer I'm just waiting for them to arrive and then I don't know if I should go for the other two or go for the planetary Omni.

Attached: IMG_20190728_122548.jpg (2217x3264, 1.22M)

Brubaker is a writer who I can honestly say I haven't read anything bad by yet. That said I haven't read most of his work-for-hire shit but of the stuff that matters I haven't been disappointed.

(cont.)
Which Eddie would never be interested in doing, he's been homeless enough times to always choose that vs the emotionally abusive father that blames him for his mother's death.

And then the retcons. Sweet Jesus up there in Heaven. Cates gave every Venom story the middle finger and said "LOL now Venom Canon is in MY disgression cuz you'll never know if the Symbiote faked the memory or not." The Venom Symbiote character assassination, the *LE GASP* cliffhangers with nothing coming of it the next issue. The fact that Cates even contradicts his own writing and you have to go to twitter to understand what the heck is going on. I dropped after the *LE GASP DYLAN IS EDDIE'S KID* Because I knew the *how* was going to be utterly stupid. Once #11 came out and I saw the reactions, it was even more bullshit than I was expecting.

And then I think: what is the point? Why? You've given every justification under the sun as to why we should hate Venom...and Eddie and the Symbiote are supposed to come back together anyways. Are we going to get another almost 10 year split...AGAIN? We finally have Venom back, all that progression Costa set up. For what? A edgy fanfic with no real themes and stupidly passive characters?

I just can't wait for it to be over desu. As far as I'm concerned: Venom ended with First Host.

Attached: 1553277131170.png (575x457, 563K)

oh Venom-girl, I want to tell you to expand your horizons and stuff, but I understand obsession all too well. And I would be hypocritcal not to call out GL user and Ghostrider user. It's just all your stuff has been devoted to Venom lately.

idk, I'm just one that need variety and seeing too much of one thing always makes me thing people are missing out on variety.

Gen13 and Danger girl are fun comics, so yeah, understandable. However, just artbooks of that takes out a lot of the fun that the story had. Though, I picked up the last Aspen swimsuit edition from the discount bin, so who am I to judge

>The fact that Cates even contradicts his own writing and you have to go to twitter to understand what the heck is going on
I wish I could see what was the tweet Cates deleted here because this was the latest instance of him trying to force his retcon as the only canon despite having an editor telling him the previous stories are as canon as what followed: twitter.com/cracksh0t/status/1157844269702549505?s=19, I think it's something about the stupid "dragon" symbol but I'm not sure. Makes me extra glad Waid ignored Knull in his History of the Marvel Universe and isn't acknowledged anywhere else.

reddit is so fucking hiveminded. If you don't love everything Lemire has ever done you are an outcast from the board. I love Lemire but he has done some trash at the big two. I haven't been back there since Cates started writing at Marvel so I expect it to be the same though I like Cates Venom cause I never read the character before.

artists are more likely to make me not read it than a bad writers. I will keep giving bad writers chances, but bad artists, nope. I don't know why that is. Maybe soured by Deodato and Land shit.

but a superstar artist like David Mack, Seickeiwinky, Craig P Russell or Dave McKean, I always pay attention, And am likely to read regardless of writing

Greg Land is going to a con nearby, should I get his autograph?

yes and then spit on it don't really do that, but I would like to imagine it

>yfw he doesn't actually sign the comics, but uses a premade signature stamp
Absolute poetry.

Ironically yes

so I just finished Legion. That ending came out of nowhere for me, oof it hurt. Out of the two big omni's from Marvel I got recently this didn't quite hit as hard as Loki: Journey into Mystery, but damn did it hit pretty hard. I really liked Blindfold and Legion together and the complications was really beautiful to explore. Glad i finally got this omni.

why

>If only more people were as rational as you are and dropped the books when they knew shit wasn't gonna get better instead of buying and making excuses for it because "you never know".

I think that line of thinking is okay--to a point. The series had been going on almost a year before I dropped out. Luckily, I hadn't invested a year, but it was more than enough time to check out this "writer I knew nothing about" and see if I liked his direction/writing or not. "Wait and see" mentality does more harm than good in the long run if people keep paying for shit, hoping for it to eventually not be shit. Cuz then we get, guess what, more shit.

I get a decent amount of variety in my reading, just finished Tom Sawyer and am reading a book on bettering your Dialogue with a couple of graphic novels that I picked up from the library on the side.
Trust me, I read WAAAAYYYYYYY more than I buy. I tend to be a one-and-done type of reader where I just eat volumes in one sitting like pic related and end up putting them in my *buy later* list (although I really enjoyed the book enough that I may just pick it up next paycheck).

I just tend to be the sort of person who buys A. Books that I find stupid cheap in a used bookstore or garage sale of some sort B. Hones into my space of focus or C. Wait for a gift card to finally get something not from A or B.

Venom is my space of focus and I'll get loose books from A. every chance I get.

If you're talking about getting into more capes. Eeeeeehhhhh...

Attached: 40864808.jpg (282x400, 17K)

That's literally the only way to enjoy it desu.

>Trust me, I read WAAAAYYYYYYY more than I buy
ah ok, me too. I just wish I could buy more of the stuff I read. So much eurocomics I can't buy cause are just not available so I have to pirate. Same feeling a long of old DC fans have here....I should just learn french...

sure, he's a nice guy and can draw some hella awesome monsters

>I just wish I could buy more of the stuff I read.
Me too, I just need the money and another bookshelf. Oi.

My current big read and my library books. Don't worry, user, I won't be overdosing on Venom anytime soon haha.

Jordie Bellaire is coming to my city, I have probably hundreds of comics coloured by her and I think she is the best in the business. But I am having so much a problem deciding what I want her to sign. Any favorites and recommendations?

Pick your favorite issue or favorite issue with your favorite character.

If you have Duggan's GOTG from when Kuder was drawing it, you could bring that, she did the coloring there and it's my absolute favorite of Kuder's works.

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-06-03 21-14-40.jpg (964x952, 200K)

Didn't even know Jordie Bellaire was a woman

that's the problem, that is a ton of books. Vision, Autumnlands, The Manhattan Projects, etc etc
comicbookdb.com/creator.php?ID=32063
her list is insane, and she is always so great.
no, never read that one.

Looking through things I am tempted to just bring Autumnlands and Vision cause her pairing with those artists was really good....hmmm.

>Makes me extra glad Waid ignored Knull in his History of the Marvel Universe and isn't acknowledged anywhere else.

Fuck that noise, man. And I just saw him cheering because Andy Serkis esas reading Venom (though not certain it was his run), he better not influence the movie too.

there are three main constructs of DC and Marvel currently. At DC it is King, Bendis and Snyder, at Marvel you have Cates, Aaron and slightly coming into the main Ewing. But now Hickman is fucking flipping the entire universe and I think Cates and Aaron are going to tumble down a rung. X-Men are too important and what he is doing is shaping the entire Marvel universe yet again. And good, I would rather Hickman than Cates and Aaron

Andy Serkis was reading the original Lethal Protector #6 (cuz Cates is releasing a Venom tie in called: The Lethal Protector*s* because fuck Venom fans amirite?). So, hopefully he just sticks with the 80s/90s Venom--which I have a good reason to believe so since the movie already established Eddie and Venom's bond to be more on the light-hearted/banter/goofy side.

This is gonna be worse than Dark Origin and the early 2000's...isn't it? Oi.

forgot to add the pic

>This is gonna be worse than Dark Origin and the early 2000's...isn't it? Oi.
nah, I actually think Hickman can pull this off. He took a year off to write this (which is why he STILL can't finish his indie stuff, fuck you Hickman). This 12 issues will be tight, we shall see what happens after but Hickman is basically the editor of the entire X Line and I have no clue why Jordan White still has a job, he's completely not needed cause Hickman is doing everything his job entails.

Aaron will definitely get knocked down a peg after his Thor run ends, giving Ewing an opening if he actually starts writing a high caliber book aside from Hulk one of my theories is that he's the one behind Annihilation Agenda because of "A1, E1" in the solicits, giving him the chance to push through Cosmic again after Cates hopefully leaves GOTG, but then the Marvel triad as it were would consist of him, Hickman and Cates. Two out of three isn't bad.

I hope so, we'll just have to see where the dust settles. Doesn't mean that Venom will be getting a new writer anytime soon tho

>I have no clue why Jordan White still has a job, he's completely not needed cause Hickman is doing everything his job entails
He's so redundant. Didn't you see him reading Morrison's X-Men for the first time? Why is he the X-Men editor if he hadn't read that yet? I don't believe for a second he was doing a reread.

A buddy of mine went to SDCC and got me this

Tight

Hickman, Cates and Ewing I would be totally ok with, maybe the other two can put the brakes on Cates to bring him back to his heart felt stories. He's left that totally behind and just did COOL EDGY STORIES. If he can do God Country for Marvel I would like him again.

And he got Mignola to sign it for me on the inside! Such a nice gift. I'm probably going to frame it and put it up somewhere in my apartment.

>maybe the other two can put the brakes on Cates to bring him back to his heart felt stories.
That's what he needs, you can tell he has too many "yes-man" and the fact that he has fanboys that defend everything he does, it's no wonder he acts like he can do whatever he wants.

And the end result is that you get a King.
A man who had the clout to fire his own editor and force a man on vacation to draw a couple pages for him for a big proposal.
A big proposal that went nowhere.

>that shelf
Did you get a new shelf or have I just never seen that one before? I assume you're one of the Mexibros. Looks stylish as fuck

As it should be.

>All these cosmic omnibuses
So jealous.

Oh man that’s tight as fuck

I've got myself full Wilson's Ms. Marvel run floppies + some other stuff with Kamala

Jane was a nice read

he hasn't read every issue of Wolverine and doesn't even care

Cates favorite writer is Aaron
Kings favorite writer is Bendis

why doesn't Marvel release the Ultimate X-Men and Spider-Man lines in Omni formats? I really feel like they totally forgot about all of those. Is it because of Ultimatum or is there really no interest from the fans in those series?

Thanks man, removed it from my pull list.

Unbeatable Squirrelgirl will get an Omni first

Aw man, it is and it feels so nice to the touch.

Aw nice. If you want more stories like it I recommend Frank Miller's Ronin.

>Green Lantern covering the black label logo

A tactical choice, I see.

Save it somewhere safe if you do. I had some Oop avengers assemble hardcovers a few years ago that I ditched the dust covers from and struggled to get anywhere near the going price for them.

I have posted in other /shelf/ threads but always close ups because is not actually a shelf it is a wardrobe I found in the dumpster and fixed it a bit

do you also keep them in cardboard boxes?

Almost... Look at my boxes ye mighty and despair

What is this about

crazy vampire kids doing shitty stuff

Lucky. Maruo hasn't gotten an English release since Panorama Island. Get on it Fantagraphics

Currently reading Jack Kirby's Mister Miracle. It's pretty better than I though it would be. Thinking about gonna get the fourth world trades at some point. Is the any news about a forever people trade?

Attached: 20190731_183139.jpg (4032x3024, 3.41M)

That looks great.
>no English release
Fuck you, third worlder REEEEEEEEEEE

Also pic related arrived today. Has anyone here read kamandi or omac? Are they good reads?

Attached: 20190806_123039.jpg (4032x3024, 3.05M)

Fuck you too mutt

So what are you all picking up tomorrow?

>vampirella vol 3: throne of skulls
>eerie hc vol 2
>les legendares
>okami artbook
Not much, gotta save up for a nearby con. There's an artist I like, but I'm not sure if he still does commissions. But you know, there's never enough vampi art.

Nothing. The only issue I follow isn't getting another installment until next week.

Green Lantern, Die, and Berserker Unbound.

Nice, I don't have a convention until September, so I need to start saving too.

I don't get floppies but House of X #2

My priorities tomorrow are:
Immortal Hulk #22
Die #6
Green Lantern #10
House of X #2

Daredevil, Hulk, HoX, Green Lantern, Berserker Unbound and Sea of Stars for me. Trade-waiting Invisible Woman and Lois Lane as well

How's Sea of Stars like? I'm wary towards Aaron these days but the cover seemed enticing, and I'm interested in more science fiction stuff.

#1 is a very obvious set-up issue, but damn the art is gorgeous, and I'm a sucker for father/son tales

I already have that (though I still haven't read it yet)

Thank you, I'll look into it then.

Do the current printings of 52 have the writer commentary in the back?

No. They don't

52
Cool

El bumpo del /librero/

Thump

Donald Bump

So what are you reading fggots?

Dceased # 4 so far...

>save up for a nearby con

Dragon Con?

Any unsung big 2 writers? I was liking that Max Bemis guy, he did Worst X-Man Ever and a run on Moon Knight. Was kinda hoping he'd rise through the ranks but I haven't seen his name on a cover in a while

Robbie Thompson

Attached: RCO004.jpg (1600x1230, 699K)

what's this?

doctor strange and the sorcerer's supreme

neat, i'll peep

Chad Bowers and Chris Sims fit the definition of that just right. They did the Sleepwalker and Darkhawk minis from last year.

Second Silver Age LoSH omni
Fourth Amazing Spider-Man Omni.

I guess my question got lost in the shuffle, but is the binding on the omni's good enough for actual consistent reading?

why do these guys get forgotten but all those hacks who ran the x-men into the ground are still regular writers? I was watching a Todd McFarlane interview ( youtu.be/pvKbRIuWFio?t=11 here it is if you're curious. one of the best interviews I've ever seen. this dude is so wise.)

and he says to make it in comics you have to be 2 of 3 things
>good
>fast (meet deadlines)
>likable
So, you don't have to be good if people like you and you're on time. People don't have to like you if you're good and on time. And you don't have to be on time if you're good and people like you.

So I guess the easy answer is the hacks like brisson and rosenberg hit 2 of these 3

Cates hits two of these too (people like him and he's on time). How crazy it is that it fits well.
Marvel wants big names and those who gain recognition through it, regardless of quality. That's why Al Ewing is an outlier because even though he was well liked and his output was a cut above the rest, he still wasn't Bendis or Aaron. It took the former to finally leave to DC in order for Ewing to rise as another writer of note.

>dragoncon.org/things-to-do/comic-and-pop-artist-alley/
See anything I should get?

That's actually pretty tight that they have that info on the website proper. Normally you don't know who's in artist alley unless the program/app lists it.

I think when Todd was talking about likable he meant in a workplace sense, like how much do your bosses/editors like you. John Byrne is a good example of hitting 2 out of 3. He was fast, he was good, but he was loathed around the office

Yeah, and it's a pretty big con here. Around 80,000 people went last year. Do you see anything cool I might be missing?

"critics" and social media doesn't fawn over them, they don't provoke controversy or overly epic things, just consistently fun and solid comics
its Jeff Parker syndrome

Giffen, DeMatteis, Maguire and Mark Texeira are the people I'll be visiting

>Mark Texeira
him and Jordie Bellaire are coming here. Excited for both

I was going to get a commission from Tom Bancroft

bump

I’ve read most of my omnis twice. I have like 80 and even my larger ones are fine, just a little too heavy.
This is me.

I'd say Loveness is consistent

Agreed. Wish he was more prolific. I was so damn impressed with Judas

His Nova was taken from us too early

he's writing for this season of Rick & Morty

Ahh, thank you Omni-user. Undoubtedly you of all people would know haha

This was story timed maybe year ago and that's how I got into tintin.

Goddamn it's been a long time coming for the x-men. I can't wait for the next issues.

If you like Kirby, then they're great. Especially Kamandi.

How did you get into comicbooks /shelf/?

I was late to it, I was mostly a fantasy novel reader in school, Tolkien, Brooks, Salviator, etc. but reading some of Gaiman novels let me to comics. I mainly stuck to libraries at first, which was awesome, because they had a ton of Hellblazer, Sandman and Steve Niles stuff. And that library actually was the real start of my comics addiction.

DCAU made me curious, and I thought Supergirl was cute

good point, the cartoons were another part, but for me it was initially the 90s X-men that planted the seed. I never read any of the comics though until after I saw EMH and really got into the characters and decided to read them.

cartoons when I was a kid
comic books with cleavage on them when I was a teen which also grew to include comics without cleavage on the cover as well

1st grade waiting at the car pool area after school. Some 5th grader had various Calvin and Hobbes books and I was super into dinosaurs, so when I saw one of the back covers had dinosaurs I asked if I could see one of his books. Blew my itty bitty pea brain and it was love at first sight.

It took a year before I found out the name since I was normally a bus rider and I never saw that kid again, but after that I pretty much read every comic I could get my hands on (sans capes).

Attached: 20190807_004919[2166].jpg (3787x2708, 1.62M)

I loved Spider-man 2 as a child and my grandfather bought me one reprint of Stracinzky's Spider-man, then I got a Batman War Games tie-in that was so bad that it made me drop comics and I became a weeabo, it was until years later that I got curiosity for western comics again.

My Grandpa was an old-school fan of newspaper comics. He would draw his own characters and stuff and it really got me interested I think. When I was a kid I also read newspaper comics and would get my parents to buy me Calvin & Hobbes and Far Side books.

I did not really get into the comic book format until middle school. I started reading Lee/Ditko Spider-Man, I read Bone and I found a stack of Hama G.I. Joe at a thrift store. Then Wizard came out with their list of the best graphic novels and that led me to Watchmen, Sandman and really got me reading the entry level shit and beginning that whole journey. For some reason I was reading Wizard even though I wasn't really reading comics. It was probably just for the tits.

Finally an honest answer

you turned away from tits? why?

I got into it late, maybe 2013-14. I was drinking a lot and was trying to avoid some people that would frequent my favorite bar, so I would go to this quiet cafe that served beer and drink alone there. I would originally browse other boards but some how found Yea Forums and I would just browse random threads and just drinking. Then i found the chronological Mignolaverse threads. I loved the art, and the stories were neat and short. I would still drink a lot but I would start getting mad at myself for not remembering what happened in a different story because I started noticing a lot of the Mignolaverse is connected. Eventually reading the hellboy stories became way more interesting than blacking out and I slowly started drinking less and reading more. After a while I just started buying the physical books, then after more time i started figuring what i like, like artists, authors, and then I just branched out from there. So thanks Chronological Mignolaverse Chan for getting into comics when I was going through a bad time. Also screw you for getting me into this hobby I spend way to much money on this

porn is widely available online for free

I read Archie comics from age 5 thru 12. My late Nana would give me a new digest everytime she saw me. I didn't even consider comics as a thing. They were just Archies to me.
As a teenager I was really into Halo. I read all the books, massive fan. And I caught wind probably on Attack of the Show that they were doing a Halo graphic novel. I checked it out, figured why not, expand my horizons. And I liked it.
So naturally I google "best comics ever" as you do when you get into a hobby. I wanted to check out stuff I was familiar with because of movies. Batman Year One, 300, Sin City, Watchmen. Loved them all. Into the rabbit hole I went.

good job on kicking it. I, to like, to have a few drinks and read, but I usually tend to go overboard and have to reread the last issues from where my bookmark is.
sexy art is art, there is nothing wrong with that

>series gets canceled
>no Omnibus

>no merchandise to speak of, not even a Funko Pop

It’s not fair man ...at least we have HeroClix

That's not sexy.

I tried it once I caught up with all the manga I wanted to read, liking it so far, but I can find myself stopping in the near future.

bump

I'd buy the Deluxe or Omni in a heartbeat. It's so retarded of them to not finally announce it

First got into it because I bought Watchmen and Batman: The Long Halloween to read while on a trip ~10 years ago. Kept buying the Savage Sword of Conan tbps Dark Horse was putting out and then I found myself picking up stuff like Northlanders, Rebels, the Animal Man omni, Multiversity, and others.

Long Halloween is still my favorite, though.

Do you have Silver Surfer Return Of Thanos to go with Infinity Gauntlet?
IG just ain't as good if you don't have Thanos Quest to read beforehand.

Maybe it'll get collectors edition a way down the line like a lot of 00s big2 runs are getting in recent now.

Sure

So? Porn is gross, as are you for suggesting it.

Congrats.

me jelly

>Living in Japan sucks for buying comics

I remember one Amazon.jp wishlist from the Christmas threads, those prices were insane.

Sometimes I find books from the 90s for pretty cheap in used book stores. Amazon pricing algorithms are also pretty wonky - buying one book can suddenly cause twenty others to drop 50% in price the next day. Omniboo are always $100-150 though, but really, space is at such a premium that I hardly have the room for them, even if I can find books for cheap.

The scarcity also makes me enjoy the hunt more.

Bump

this post here is the post of a liar

I love checking used bookstores, there's lots of gems there I'm on the hunt for some Mexigwen stuff

Finally here, I really don't like Jim Lee's cover but well at least it has the Rick Veitch ST issues.
