Yes it was. By a long shot and the creators were more likeable and the youtube community was better. The platform was also better at the time.

I'm just impressed by the fact that they can just tell you super basic and lame anecdotes that may not even be real, add some color over the same templates they have usted for years, and still get no less than 7M views on each vídeo, I see people doing more interesting shit and they hardly pass a million, these guys make """animaciones""" about how they got their hair cut and 33 MILLION people watch the thing.

Like said, I think a lot of people just use them for background noise. They're not particularly investing visually so you can just listen to them like a vlog while doing more important shit. Plus tween kids seem to like them a lot, I'm assuming because it makes them feel like they have a friend they're talking casually to. In a way they may almost serve the same purpose as video girls to some people, only from a strictly platonic standpoint.
