Might as well keep it themed. The White Steven AU is pretty good tapas.io
The one I made where Pearl and I get married and live happy together until she dies by my murdercock
mine too, the comic has a ridiculously interesting story and I love how accurate it is
I don't read fanfics because I'm not a moron. Most fandoms are garbage, so it goes without saying by extension the fanfics are equally as garbage. my fetishes and style in storytelling isn't exactly common or mainstream, and most fanfics are just shipping shit and self-inserts of other people's fetishes so why would I bother if not to waste my time? I'm already behind on tons of shows, movies and books so, once again, why waste my time on other random Joe Smoe's shit who never took a writing class in his life?
god i want to see this storytime'd again soon. I'd do it myself but I'm a lazy cunt. I also want to see every panel edited like this.
Don't judge a book by its cover. There are some very very good fanworks out there worth reading, esp if you like the story it's based off of
A Crystal Heart's Easy to Break, Baby
by The Qing
I present you storytime kino.
Fractures, an AU where Pink lost the rebellion. I know this sounds dumb, but it kind of emotionally scarred me. You may like it if you like tragedy and ridiculously sad stories.

oh ok
Someone on Yea Forums a couple weeks ago posted a thread about a SU fanwork comic where instead of being Pink's kid he was White's kid. Surprisingly good for a fan work. Seeing Steven as a character that appeared as an outsider to the main original cast was pretty cool.
I remember this too. This shit goes off the fucking rails going from one genre to the next.
Might be the best fic in term of staying true to the characters that i've ever read. It has some questionable decisions, but it's very good. I'll have to finish reading it one day
fanfiction.net
Tails Gets Trolled
It starts out as a mildly edgy gag comic and then it became a straight up shounen anime, it's truly amazing isn't it.
I've been meaning to read this
Yeah it's interesting to say the least. First a gag comic, then a Junji Ito horror, then a shounen battle anime mixed with cliche from Boku no Hero Academia and JoJo? Like okay then. You do you, dude.
As a filthy Lapidot shipper, Shattered Reflections is so far one of my favorite fanfiction. I love how ridiculously edgy it is.
>I don't read fanfics because I'm not a moron.
Definitely bait but I'll still bite. Fanfics are good because they can explore concepts that the original series never would go into. You can expand on minor characters, throw characters into a situation you'd never see in the original work, do a deep dive into what makes a character tick, etc.
This is retarded but I think I love it?
I think that's the point
oh yeah, I remember this one
I was disappointed that Sargon was some youtube dude and not the actual Akkadian king
How far will he make it?
I could never get into fanfiction, I'm unreasonably picky when it comes to slow-accuracy and being faithful to the characters' personalities. My immersion is very deep, but fragile like glass. A single out-of character moment makes me cringe and immediately drop the fix. Sometimes it can be as minor as one word that doesn't suit the character's vocabulary.
My autism is suffering.
You are talking about the future Prime Minister of England.

Eh I've never read one but I'm sure some stuff is good. Some pokemon hacks are done very well like pokemon brown and prism and honestly are better than the new games in many respects. If random dudes on the internet can make an entire game for free that's better than a company why can't the same be true for stories?
Just remember if shit like Atlas Shrugged and Twilight can not only get published but become iconic, then a fanfiction being decent isn't out of the question.
Based Truth
Not Yea Forums related, but I like Nonjon's non-crossover HP stuff. A Black Comedy may be the best fic I've ever read.
Anyone here ever written any fanfiction?
Before Peridot became the meme gem gremlin, her personality was a lot more nebulous and vague. Can't remember the exact fic, but there's one where she (accidentally) fuses with Steven and the whole experience is miserable
>Artemis Fowl
NOW YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION. I need to fucking reread AF, it was KINO. I'll read the fanfic later.
It's a good ship, but what you've linked is a bad story
Based
I'm currently writing a fic about an ancient criminal escaping from gem jail because they were distracted by all the changes Steven brought to the empire
I usually just read lewd fics to jack off. I read this recently and thought it was very good.
archiveofourown org/works/16288802
I'm the author of this
Won't link because of GR15, but Stardust, which is a crossover between XCOM and small horse show
>Girl Penis
Is it actually a good crossover fic or is it just the same exact thing as a normal X-Com fic except they're just ponies instead of humans?
If the main character of the show is a faggot like Gumball then I would read only to see them drop and burn.
I could get into this, mind sharing the sauce OP?
One pony gets sent to the XCOM universe via shenanigans, and they capture and study her thinking she's an ayy
I've made attempts but I usually just get bored of it and not bother finishing the whole fic and not posting it. Though I will also say since I lurk on fanfiction.net I use a lot more correct spelling and grammar compared to other users on that site.
Remember to stop at 3, 4 or 6 depending on your degree of masochism
6 was still good, but after that it's complete dogshit.
What is Artemis Fowl even about?
Usually when I end up writing a fic I have to have a fire lit under me by something.
Like an idea or a scenario is in my mind for a while and I have to commit it to words to get it out and think of other things again.
Same thing when writing original work too, though there's a lot more groundwork involved.
I think I gotta pretty good idea for a Steven Universe fic, but I think it'd be too disconnected from the characters and setting to really be called "fanfic", but it borrows too much from the show to be its own thing.
So does SU, but it’s also called its own thing.
You could write it anyways, and start replacing stuff from the show until it becomes it's own thing (at which point you publish it for dosh, like the lady who wrote 50 Shades of Gray)
You know those books about naive kids getting in over their head and having a fun adventure?
Exactly the opposite
fuck the spam filter
i like the animaniacs fanfic 'family' author: The Middle Warner Sibling on fanfiction.net. it's janky and shits on disney a lot but it has a lot of cool worldbuilding elements

The Mystery of Conan Edogawa by funvice (ff.net) is good if you like detective conan but that's more Yea Forums
Estrelas (ff.net) is a pretty interesting danny phantom AU if you liked the premise of that show. it has sam finding out her attic is haunted (by danny)
Rectifier (ff.net)is a really good harry potter fanfiction but it's dead now.
genuis kid kidnaps a fairy. the fairies are swat team members, more like fae folk than greeting card fairies.
first couple books are good, then author gets up his ass in shipping bullshit.
Is it one of those “subvert your expectations” things?
no, the character is pretty much exactly what he presents himself as (a little chode)
Why would he do that shit? What’s wrong with him?
Eh, the thing is is that it keeps concepts like the Gems and the Diamond Authority, but beyond that the characters and setting are all practically original. It'd be pretty difficult (though I suppose not impossible to pull off) to make it not be related to SU.
The first book is a fantasy/scifi/thriller hostage negotiation story about a genius asshole "all according to keikaku" type kid who kidaps a fairy police officer from the magic community who live in secret underground in order to get a large ransom of pure gold. It's a pretty good read, and still holds up.
>genius asshole "all according to keikaku" type kid
God I fucking hate those characters.
>Anyone here ever written any fanfiction?
I wrote one of those Transformers Mosaics comics back in the day
>no, the character is pretty much exactly what he presents himself as (a little chode)
of course it is worth mentioning that while Artemis is indeed a little chode, he does have his good aspects as a person, although he'll do his best to hide them or pretend he's doing something nice because it's serving a larger plan or something
Haven't read many but the Loud house fanfic "Make it wit chu" is my favorite so far. It's about lincoln's sisters molesting him but its less about the actual sex and more about the soul-crushing hopelessness and mental scarring, it even inspired 1 or 2 fan comics. A new chapter came out recently and the way the writer describes the last bit of hope you didn't even think lincoln had being destroyed is fantastic.
unlike most of them Artemis Fowl actually works, partly because it doesn't always go in his favor
The Diamond Authority as we've seen now isn't that much different from any other fictional alien race that goes around seeding worlds to reproduce. As for the other thing, depends on how much Gem stuff you rip off, since some shit like being a hard-light construct, weapon summoning, fusion, etc are pretty specific
A few. Usually, they'll range anywhere from 7,000 to 90,000 words.
Are you looking to write something yourself?
Does he get humiliated or his ass kicked? Because that’s usually the clincher for me to be turned off a keikaku character.
That's the thing, they ARE (currently) Hard-Light constructs who summon weapons through GEMS on their bodies (though fusion could be done without). Characters are named after their gem type, and the society is organized and structured through a Hierarchy of Gem types.
I don't know exactly how to remake this without it sounding like a ripoff of SU
That's how I kind of am at first but as I get into writing I begin to lose focus from writing the fic and eventually stop about half way or 3/4 of the way through.
How hard are you set on them being Gems?
>shipping bullshit
nah man, we all wish
instead he starts pushing the ecologic angle even moreso than before, so much so that it comes at a detriment to the writing
Uh
I mean, I don't want them to be organic beings with blood and organs and shit. I want them to be mineral people, but not like rocks, you know? They have to have value, be pristine. They don't eat, they don't produce much waste. They're meant to feel light and precise, like a cut gem would irl.
They DO in this story (unlike the show) have lifespans, but I don't know if that'd be enough of a differentiator.
Try writing a rough outline first rather than making it up as you go. I used to have the same problem until a started making guides for myself. It makes it easier to keep going when you already have a map and know where the end is.
You could have them be made out of Crystal

kek
Pack Street did something similar with Zootopia. Doesn't mean it's bad, you've just chosen to explore a different area of the universe. I'd say keep at it.
but not really
There's other non-flesh-and-blood options that aren't mineral people. You could make them plants who grow the weapons from their bodies, and instead of gem types they'd be named after flowers or herbs. Idk I'm sure you can work something out if you're creative enough
Crystal is too bulky and imprecise
I like the Gem thing because it gives a quick and simple identifier of rank or appearance.
It represents division and status. Pearls are dainty. Rubies are tiny. Quartzes are bulky, etc. It's a class and race of people
With a Crystal, you can't really do that. You can't incorporate the naming of gems with it, and it becomes harder stratify society because, you know, how do you determine value and identifier of a class if they are all crystals?
>3
>A step back
Why do you feel that way? Personally i place it higher than 4
Like the other user already said, it is useful to know what you want out of a fic and how you want it to end before you start writing it.
Then you can just fill things out along the way and expand wherever inspiration strikes you.
Before you know it you're 10,000 words in.
Though finding someone willing to read 10k - 30k words is more tricky, especially if you want feedback or help with editing.
OK.
Have you ever finished any fanfiction?
Wham am I looking at? Looks like Loud House but I don't recognize the names
Alright I'll see if it helps, thanks though user.
>a different area of the universe
It's more like a rewrite of the entire lore of the setting. It couldn't work as a "different area" of the universe, because its more like it recreates that universe
I suppose so. I don't know about plants though. These are meant to be able to survive in the cold depths of space, no oxygen or anything. And a plant person feels more vulnerable than a being made of light based off a prism. Though thank you for your suggestion
What about a fic that you've put 50k words into and isn't even 1/4 of the way through
Yeah, but I never have the guts to post anything.
Well honestly I don't see how that would be much of a problem, usually the best fanfics I've read range from 60K to 80K words, so other than that as long as the reader gets hooked on the story it should't be too much of a problem to recieve feedback for editing, espacially if they post feedback for every 2 or so chapters.
Thanks user.
Then it is a novel.
Then post them as a guest on pastebin, link it to where it is relevant, and continue to relish your anonymity afterwards.
It's harder than you'd think for original works.
>I've already written a story that's worth 2 novels
>My current one will probably end up being worth 6 by the time I'm done
AHHHHHHHHHHH
Author changed them for reasons I don't remember.
No
After the dueling keikakus of 1, the action and suspense of 2, 3 felt kind of one sided (at least as I recall) with the bad guy. Even if the team messes up, Root's just going to send in a team, so there's not as much tension as other books. Still a fun read.
Probably the best one, mostly due to consistency of quality and content.
amethyst is still best gem
My own fics.
Also writing some actual good She-Ra fics to piss off /u/
There's at least one decent fanfic per show. The trick is to wait long enough for other people to link you the stuff worth reading.
Shit, I wish I had numbers like those
>You may like it if you like tragedy and ridiculously sad stories.
Tragedy porn gets old fast.
Well shit, user. Here's all you need to do:
________________________________________________GET GOOD SON_______________________
Don't bully, my stories are just misunderstood masterpieces. At least some people like them
I like this premise.
Tragedy porn makes good short stories or good first quarter of a story
Do you like heist films?
Your tiny story counts deserve to be bullied, user.
Not particularly.
>tiny
user...
What about doing elements?
>Why do you feel that way? Personally i place it higher than 4
Not him, but it kind of retreads some ground. It's also sort of standalone. It would probably make the best film though.
Elements? You mean like the Periodic table?
Yes, tiny.
T. I. N. Y.
Keep writing user, I believe in you.
Then you probably won't like it. Every book is basically a heist, prison break, or spy thriller.
Where do you post those?
Sure, it's already broken into hierarchy and type for you.
Only prison break movie I liked had Arnie and Sylvester
Don't read the sequel, it's dogshit
ff.net. I post my more odd stuff on AO3 since that place is basically a Slaanesh breeding pit of degeneracy.
Here's mine
There is a muscle-bound, gun wielding badass.
I suppose so, it's certainly not a bad alternative
I'd need to do a lot of thinking and readjusting to make it work though. Not sure how I'd make a character named "Potassium" or "Helium" be taken seriously
Right now I'm writing one where the main plot device is the development of wearable machinery that are sort of a cross between limb enhancers and the mirror that Lapis was stuck in, however, I haven't been able to make any progress since my laptop crapped out a couple of months ago (phoneposting, I know. Kill me, already.) That being said, I have been spending all that time worldbuilding and oh god, it's amazing to see that in the span of five seasons and almost two hundred episodes later the Crewniverse hasn't shown jack and shit about other types of gems and what their culture is. Seriously, that has been the bulk of the work so far.
>"Oh boy gosh darn it I sure loved dismantling the whole Gem Empire during the time skip!"
And from that line from the movie trailer we can see that they have absolutely no intention in doing so, and given the glimpses of outworld gems that we also got from there the designs of other gems will go a bit on the lazy side in seasons 6+, which is a shame since I suck at character design and I really wanted to lift some stuff from there as to ease the workload.
AO3 has everything. Including said pit of writhing horror.
I actually feel bad for making fun of you now.
>Not sure how I'd make a character named "Potassium" or "Helium" be taken seriously
Either make them jokes or extremely compelling characters.
Mine are super tiny too, but I tend to do rare pairs or write about unpopular characters, so I'm not really surprised.
It's okay
One of them's kinda blown up recently after a year of barely anything, so there's that at least
the Andy Weir's The martian x My Little Pony fanfic was really good, even it got a little long winded towards the end
Kind of wish the author would stop writing his softcore werewolf porn comic to keep writing fanfiction.
>21 chapters
>only about 15,000 words long
That was your first fic I'm guessing?
Have you considered looking at rocks?
Hell, look at rocks that exist artificially.
Right, but like how do you make that work? Have characters that are technically Gaseous but yet still take a solid form? I guess there's some credence to the idea. It takes place in a Solar-Sytem wide empire, so maybe the gasses could originate from harvests from Gas Giants
But I feel like I'm moving too far away from the original idea.
I dunno, thanks for the suggestions though
That's right
It was much simpler than I'm currently writing
I'd be willing to read and review if you're bold enough to link
I haven't actually written that many. I need to motivate myself to write more.
Just started reading this. It feels a little edgy, but overall the quality of jokes seem pretty good.
I'm shit at writing, so I decided to do a Worm fic to level up. Honestly it's kinda fun making your own stories, and it's becoming my new hobby at this point.

Not the best written fic I’ve read so far, but an interesting concept and decent execution. Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to write fanfic, but I can't really make myself write, to the point where it's hard to even write reviews.
Incredibly degenerate Homestuck xeno filth
Those days are behind me now
Then you won't be ashamed of posting it.
Yes, and I still do.
Also fandoms are biased by their very nature. You can tell who's their favorite by how they treat the characters. Pacing, spelling. and tone is also a major factor in the quality of a fanwork.
If he wins, I'll be fucking pissed.
How about make their bodies out of gases
Connieswap is the longest running and longest SU fanfic, pretty sure. I wouldn't recommend getting into it, simply due to the length but I enjoyed it. It basically follows the show's arc structure, but Connie has a gem and lives with the og Homeworld trio. Lapis is less depressed than she is a bipolar absentee father, Jasper is Jasper but if she was a part of the rebellion, Peridot is best mom and currently resisting meme status. Doug is an absentee father, but trying to not be. Connie is a mess. Rose is weaponized heel-face turn wrapped in multi-ply keikaku. She's playing 4D chess in a tetris ROM.
Honestly, it's all over the place but I think it encapsulates early fan theory bullshit really well. It's all those guys who said they'd make their own show with blackjack and hookers but as an actually followable story with characters that mostly make sense.
It's certainly an idea, like an alien race that's a solid form of Gas. But like I said earlier, I think that's kind of moving away from the original vision. And plus, the idea of a "Gas Race" feel much less sleek than that of light
Though here's an idea: What if they were beings of light projected by a Prism that focused in on a certain color wavelength? Beings made of pure concentrated projected color? That could work. The idea was that every planet had a "Diamond" that was certain color like in SU (Red-Mars, Blue-Neptune, etc), and that the gems had color scheme to fit this.
This could actually give meaning behind the color thing, and still keep the "beings made of light" thing. Though I don't know how the "class by type" and hierarchal society thing would fit into it
Massive crossover fics that feature a bunch of wildly different characters and people interacting are godly. This looks like it'd be a rival to Humans Assemble, which is the dumbest crossover fic I've ever found.
I know that feeling. You're never going to do it unless you set aside a specific time, and then stick to it. I usually give myself a full day dedicated to each chapter.
Make them lantern people. Brass, silver, gold. Iron. With their own flame burning within as their mortal soul. That's what I'd do if I really wanted to lift the idea of gems for a steampunk setting.
Well, mine isn't steampunk
It's kinda like a Sci-fi meets medieval theme like the show
But you're more than welcome to use that idea for whatever you want, though
Death Korps of Justice
Still, maybe they're some being of pure energy living within statuesque shells. If their container breaks then they dissipate into nothing. They can form weapons out of their malleable yet stone-like skin and imbue them with their star-like essence.
The mechanics and flavour text of your aliens is the easy part. What's hard is writing a story people give a shit about.
Its ok when it tries
I did some rock research but raw facts about them are a bit insipid and repetitive sometimes, not to mention that gems that don't end in '—ieite' tend to have little to no info about them. Also, if you look occult uses or uses for witchcraft you alwas get the same feel good stuff about cleasing, emporwerment, and whatnot.
Like, why are there no dibbits about how to curse with colored rocks? Something akin to: "Put this tourmaline under a feet of sand and water it with your urine. Then the object or your hatred will have incontrolable gastrointestinal problems." Neat! Now I know that tourmalines have a demonic aestethic to them.
>But why demonic, user?
Because they come from the bowels of hell.
I dunno, I still find myself gravitating toward the gem thing.
I have thought out the story and all, and thought up a bunch of characters and arcs and shit, and it'll all "work" with the Gem stuff. I just bought this whole thing up since it's kinda in a weird spot creation wise, since as it stands it's neither a proper "fanfic" or original story
yes. I also draw fanart of the same show
yet, I've never drawn art of my own fanfics
Theoretically, this is possible
I'm working on a SU/Fate crossover, hoping to play with both the gems being around for a big chunk of human history, and reconciling Nasu's batshit cosmology with the gems being an extraterrestrial virus that drains the life from places.
Woah, that sounds kinda cool, any more details?
I have mixed feelings for mega-crossovers, like I really enjoy the idea of them but sometimes it can just take me out of the story when it feels like it's more just for the sake of being cool than having things gel together, especially if that's not what the story was at the start.
I like Hank’ Legacy:
m.fanfiction.net
That's just your average Yea Forums-poster
Maybe a little less grey matter
Does anyone else have a problem with speculative fanfic when it guesses wrong? Like even if the person writing the fanfic is probably a better writer than the one writing for the show/comic or whatever, I tend to find the canon explanations for things a lot more palatable and cohesive.
Like AUs are fine, it's more when they try to address like "the real truth behind the enemy faction/this mysterious character". I don't know, I'm having a hard time clarifying.
It's the 5th Grail War just because I'm most familiar with that and both it and SU are nebulously modern. Generally, while I don't want things to be easy, I want to keep it as tonally consistent with SU's morals about love, understanding, self-respect etc overcoming all obstacles as true as possible both because I find it hilarious, and I feel like underneath all the chuuni stuff it's actually not really that off-brand for Fate.
Always; never been a fan of fanfics that try and decide (predict?) the lore of the series.
The best AUs are the ones that branch off of the main storyline (preferably during a significant plot point), but don't try to solve any dilemmas regarding lore.
Like the many AT fancomics that became invalidated as the show went on.

Sushigirl and /ic/ have really helped me.

A lifetime.
Reading Steven Universe fanfiction sucks massive dick because most of them were made before the Pink Diamond reveal.
>a lifetime
shit...ok
Im willing to spend time on it
Damn, sounds nice, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it
No worries! As long as you have fun, that's all that really matters. We're all in the same boat, here.
>ITT: TVTropes fanfic recommendation
I'll be glad when Summer's over and you fucks are back in school.
I also want to write a Steven Universe fic which is disconnected from the characters and setting to be really called fanfic but borrows too much from the show to be its own thing.
AU where Lapis leads the Rebellion and ends up becoming a passive arbiter of Earth and humanity.
Yeah, and even the few who guessed correctly didn't do it completely right, because even if they predicted that Rose was Pink Diamond, they didn't understand who Pink Diamond was.
I can't imagine being someone as bitter as you.
It's not really Yea Forums but The Rabbit's Eyepatch was one of the first fanfics I read and it still saddens me that the author kinda up and dissapeared, hope they are doing OK.
Where did you go xchrispx?
Well at least that one actually a character from the original show. Mine's pretty much all OC. I could expound upon it if anyone wanted, but I'm not gonna go off an tangent if no one wants it.
It'd honestly be pretty interesting if my fic somehow ended up on TVTropes
this is strangely ASMR-like
I tried a long time ago, it was a nothing fanfic about PMD, I made a couple chapters but deleted them because they were just bad. Maybe one day, I'll be confident enough to write my own but not yet.
Also, I'm a sucker for a good AU and minor edge so here:
fanfiction.net
fanfiction.net
Nothing's worse than finding no fanfics for a series with great fanfic potential.
Imaging knowing that the creator of the work you wrote a fic based off of has read your fic and liked it.
I'm going to stick to Yea Forums related material.

Horse related AI takes over real Earth. Barely related to the show, mainly used as flavoring for the apocalypse.
With This Ring
Starts as an Young Justice rewrite with orange power ring SI, but then branches out to touch nearly all of DC canon.
Grimm Life
RWBY pre-canon. SI with foreknowledge of events spawns as a Grimm, and the Queen of Grimm rips it out of him and subdues him to her own machinations. Has a very cute little Ruby.
Metropolitan Man
My absolute favorite fan fiction. Written by Alexander Wales. It's Lex Luthor in the 1930's dealing with Superman's first year.
A Bluer Shade of White
Another Alexander Wales work, it's about Elsa using her powers to make her country better after the movie, until a ?threat? appears.
Empty Graves and Other Stories
A collection of one shots, but the best one is centered around Martha Kent and what it means to raise the greatest superhero before anyone knows who he is.
Timmy and Vicky Comic by Simon
A rewrite of what Vicky remembered from "Love at First Height".
JL8
The Justice Leagues but all together in elementary school. Feels official.
we're on the same boat here user
What's yours, user?
I won't judge
I enjoy unpretty's DC stuff, I think this is one of the best ones
Empty Graves - Martha Kent having to deal with time travelers trying to John Conner her son.

Well, that was an interesting read.
Dement09 has some good, good lapidot nsfw comics, and I am not even much of a fan of Lapidot.

No, but I have a bunch of ideas for stories in my head, though I can't write to save my life, so that's where they'll stay most likely.
I'm currently writing a bunch of RWBY and Eva fics and an EVA self insert fic. Also a crossover with Death Stranding.

No? Not really
You do realize that this can also happen in official comics, right?
i write fanfic but it's mostly Yea Forums and Yea Forums though i did recently write a SU fanfic.
I write royal road fiction
The only fanfic made on Yea Forums that I'm aware of being mentioned there is the Hazel fic.
And that's probably just because it was written over 10 years ago now.
I'm working on something but it's Yea Forums so I don't know if it applies.
I'm writing a SU fic based on this song

Brawl in the family
Have them go by their periodic table letters and atomic numbers. Maybe have their 'common names' be private shit.
>Have characters that are technically Gaseous but yet still take a solid form? I guess there's some credence to the idea.
Maybe have those characters in particular be a planet spanning gas entities that serves as a 'Big Brother' enforcer. The only way to not be observed is to go into spaces that don't have the gas in it or to otherwise put them into reactions that fuck up the atmosphere.

I'd read it.
Alright, it's kinda weird tho.
These ideas are pretty good, though I don't know how well they'd fit with everything I got. But I appreciate the suggestions anyway. Maybe I'll end up incorporating some of this stuff
In any case, this story's gonna be on the back burner for awhile anyway since I'm working on something else right now

I think fanfiction is a waste of time; why spend so much time and effort on someone else's IP when you could make your own story and do whatever you want?
Not to mention that the best fanworks might as well be original stories with how much they alter things.
There's a Hilda fic on Archive of Our Own called "Ghost in the Mirror" that's really fucking good, probably the best one I've read for the show. I tried to put the link to it but it keeps saying my post is spam.
I've wrote some crossover stuff for Hilda, but its such a niche crossover that I haven't shared it.
Alright
Feel free to let me know if it's shit or if you'd change anything
>Setting is the Solar Sytem
>In this universe, this is the home and domain of the Diamond Authority, their empire stretching from Venus to Nepute, with a terraformed Earth (called New Homeworld) being the capital
>Each Planet has a diamond ruling over it, all answering in a hierarchy to White on New Homeworld
>The story begins on Mars, and focuses on a Gem called Pyrite, the commander of Red Diamond (Mar's Diamond)'s guard and military forces
>He is a strict, orderly, yet deeply insecure figure who is staunchly loyal to Red Diamond
>The story gets kickstarted when he is assigned to watch over and train his successor, a newly formed Pyrite who will replace him when he inevitably reaches his "Heat Death" (Gems have natural lifespans in this universe)
>Of course, the older Pyrite hates this, as not only do their personalities greatly conflic (The younger Pyrite is more loose, naive, and adventurous), but it also stokes his growing insecurities of being "obsolete" and replaced
>Misadventures ala Season 1 of SU ensue, with the two of them being forced to maintain order and solve problems on Mars, with undertones of something sinister
>Though Red Diamond is for the most part Wise and Benevolent in her rule, other Diamonds aren't
>One character that gets introduced is an escapee from the Moons of Jupiter, who crashlanded on Mars using a Jetpack they assembled
>Things are further heated by the discovery that a former rebel leader, Jade, has been assembling an army on Mars using prisoners from the hollow underground
>Though Red Diamond is sympathetic to them, she orders the Two Pyrites to put a stop them no matter what
>This climaxes in the "finale" of the first "season", where the two armies of Gems face off
(1/2)
I would agree. Fanfiction as a medium is good for writing practice, as you don't have to worry about creating characters because you can just co-opt existing ones and focus on creating plot and honing your prose. But it doesn't have much capacity for creating original or compelling art. Originality will be extremely limited at the best of times. The very nature of it involves using content someone has already created, so there's not much you can do in terms of building on preexisting characters and ideas when they've already been built upon quite a bit. I'm sure there are a few pieces every often that are fun or maybe even clever, but the medium is limited by the aforementioned dearth of originality and the general population's lack of writing skills.
That makes me feel extra ashamed that I've written fan-fiction, and within the last year no less. It was lewd SU fanfiction too, involving a fetish I'm not particularly crazy about:Lactation.
Is it a doom crossover?
No. But I did write some Doom/Deltarune stuff back in November of last year for /utg/.
>Though the Pyrites manage to get the upper hand, in the middle of the battle a garangantuan force emerges and rocks the entire planet
>This is "The Cluster", a super weapon comprised of force-fused prisoners that is meant to grow and destroy the planet to prevent the rebels from spreading, as well as punish Red Diamond for daring to go against White's orders
>The two Pyrites managed to escape the battle, yet the older one is greatly traumatized
>The Gems and Settings that had been shown and explored through the whole thing are ruined or destroyed
>As the planet collapses and buckles against the force of the monster at its core, The two Pyrites (along with a slew of other characters) confront Red Diamond, and she reveals that she was forced to by White
>She gives them a ship and tells them to go far away, to a place that "Never has to know the cruelty of White Diamond"
>As they escape, the crust of the planet is completely broken and Mars is considered "destroyed", with the main characters escaping far past the other planets
>And this ends the first "season" of the story
>From then on, the story focuses on the characters trying to go back and save the other gems under the rule of Diamonds, forming a new rebellion under the leadership of the Younger Pyrite
>This will take them all over the solar system, from the Kupier Belt to the water world of Neptune ruled by Blue, to the great ring cities of Saturn, finally back to the core worlds of Venus and Homeworld
>Meeting and recruiting new characters along the way who help them fight against the Diamonds, kind of like ATLA
>Until the final confrontation with White on Homeworld, which'll end the whole thing
There's some other shit and characters I had to gloss over, but what do you think? Is it interesting at least?
I think it keeps inspiration somewhat honest albeit played up in some instances, it also keeps expectations somewhat low which could be a detriment.
Neat so far, very flexible set up. The Pyrite passing the torch made me think of The Way of Kings' Dalinar Kholin, if you haven't might be worth a check out, The Stormlight Archive is an epic if you're interested, I might be getting the wrong idea so far though.
Not sure how you plan explaining the castes added, I assume given what was written about the gem flavour so far in this thread Jade being waxy and rounded would make them reasonably distant below Pyrite. The hollow underground, is that a Siberian gulag mine prison thing, I imagine Jade would get perspective cut-tos and "episodes" adding to the tragedy/investment.
final summation of 1/2 - sounds good, areas of concern Getting New Pyrite right, making Red Diamond tough but fair, making their intrigue consistent without bogging down too much. With everything taking place on mars, the pacing sounds about right though.
I have recently found myself in a similar situation, but in my case it's because of the very infamous Homestuck.
For now it has been some short of AU-thingy which while uses exactly the same characters and setting, I think it would end up being too detached from the real material in terms of execution and plot.
>what if the kids acted more like real pre-teens?
>why not make their relationships with their respective families actually tracendental to the story?
>what if the Jade was a more thought-out character? Why not make her relation with Prospit and Skaia as a whole a lot more relevant?
>what if the former character had a stablished and prevalent rivalry with Rose?
>what if some of the kids were interconected through actual biology?
>what if the carapacians were actually important? Why not study their society and culture more deeply?
>what if there were actual differences and development between the archagents and their various selves (B1 Jack Noir/Spades Slick, B1 CD/Clubs Deuce, etc)?
>what if the Denizens where there for more than pissy easy symbolism?
>what if the trolls group was only composed by 4/5 members?
>what if their planet and civilization were divergent from ours in a charismatic way?
>what if Karkat wasn't a fucking joke of a character?
>why not make Karkat and his friendship with Slick more influential for his development? Hell, why not have an entire arc of both of them ultimately teaming up with Terezi and Diamonds Droog?
>what if Vriska was more than just a victimized piece-of-shit teenager? Why not give her believeable reasons for her motives and why she is how she is?
>what if Terezi's blindness represented an actual handicap to her person?
>what if Kanaya didn't depend so much on Rose altogether, both as a fold of the latter and their interactions with each other?
>what if Doc Scratch/Lord English were more of the same entity?
And so on.
Cont.
I believe I have got the resources and time needed to eventually pull it off, but the final outcome will be so different and also so derivative that at that point it would seem kind of insulting to regard it as fanfiction. More specially considering how turbulent the fanbase is, I just don't want to make people even more sad and angry if I ultimately end up blowing it.
I simply don't know if I should go forward or not.
Yeah, you've got a full story plotted out, more than I assumed.
>...."The Cluster", a super weapon comprised of force-fused prisoners that is meant to grow and destroy the planet to prevent the rebels from spreading, as well as punish Red Diamond for daring to go against White
The timeline of this gives me pause, so, Red is nice, and probably similar to pink in canon as far as being seen as a liability by the more cruel diamonds. She acquires a rebel from one of Jupiter's moons and on the surface seems to be trying to do something about it, unless she's planted by white or another D, I'm not sure how they would just activate or build a cluster within the constrains of the story unless each planet has a cluster as a final solution if things get too bad on any of the planets, which the reveal with Red seems to indicate this makes the 2nd half of the story dicey because how do they prevent future core activations, unless its only on Diamond planets.
Lemme know if I misunderstood any of that (I'm making assertions based on assumptions presupposed using tropes), its all pretty neat so far.
Thank you
The idea was that he caste system would be explained as the story went on. You're meant to get a clear understanding of how things work and who is what by the interactions the characters have with the world and what is explained, which can be justified since the Beta Pyrite is new to all of this much like Steven was in SU, though unlike SU he is not a "POV" character.
The idea with the Jade character was that they were as much a relic of the past fighting in the present as the older Pyrite was. A "decommissioned" class of Gems who oversaw mining operations across the empire, and who were thought to be destroyed after their failed uprising. In this sense, the torch as much passes from Older to Younger Pyrite, to "Older to Newer Rebellion" at the end when all is revealed. The idea of old being superseded by new
The hollow underground is indeed a gulag like structure, where prisoners all across the empire are sent. I'd like to keep Jade sort of mysterious by not cutting to them too much, but the perspective isn't solely hard set on the Pyrites. In fact, the perpesctice totally switches to that rebel gem with the jetpack in one "episode", showing his escape and ingenuity of his character. It's the only "episode" to not take place on Mars that "season". Though maybe that'd muddle things a bit, not sure
Another thing that you can only really do in fanfics is explore moral considerations that people have overlooked. If you write an original story about a character committing genocide and destroying civilizations for shortsighted goals, that comes off as contrived and preachy. But if you write a story that explores the logical consequences of canon events in a well-known professional production (like a certain butterfly that ruined everything for everyone), you can cover topics that people ordinarily wouldn't be interested in investing themselves in.
The point being that tragedy should not be overdone, i.e. pornographic.
>For sale: baby shoes, never worn
>Thank you
Thank you. I get a fun read, or I get to imagine I helped someone craft their FF Magnum opus in the smallest way.
>It's the only "episode" to not take place on Mars that "season". Though maybe that'd muddle things a bit, not sure
Depends on the audience somewhat, I feel the average reader would get it, with proper use of color descriptions or a flat out explanation of the new setting. There's an opportunity to have call backs if Mars ends up being as shitty as the moon they're fleeing. Its certainly a second chapter or intro chapter sort of thing, making it the intro is very risky and ironically would certainly be how it would be done were it an actual screenplay/story board for a cartoon.
Infinitesimal chance, but painful possibility if you or the readership enjoy the moon more than Mars.
I've written multiple lewd greentexts concerning SU, none of which I'm especially proud of. /sug/ seemed to like the Jasper one I did, at the very least.
The idea is that Red is wise and firm, though there's always the hint of something mysterious going on. She meant to be quite monotone in delivery, and doesn't always tell Pyrite everything in her communications with other Diamonds.
She wants to protect her subjects, but at the same time she has her duties to the empire. She's one of the oldest Diamonds along with Yellow on Venus. She knows how things work, and the power that White has. And in the end, she folds to White's wishes because it's her duty as a Diamond. For the "Greater Good" of the empire and by extension the Diamond Authority.
She's a nice diamond, but she's still below White, and she knows that it's futile opposing her, as well as greatly dishonorable. So against her wishes, she "plants" the cluster in the core of Mars, feeding and growing it with Prisoners who dared to opposed the Diamond Authority, until it is finally "activated" in the climatic battle. In this respect, she's in many ways a prisoner herself. She was held just as much hostage as every gen in the underground. She desperately tried to stop things from getting this far, ending the rebellion at all costs, but in the end White cruelly decided that Red Diamond and Mars weren't worth it, and ended it all with Cluster. Not only boosting bolstering propaganda against the rebels, but removing a potentially treacherous ally.
Wow, can't believe I wrote all that about a character that's entirely in my head, but I've thought about this a lot. The threat of a similar cluster like failsafe happening elsewhere to other Gems and Diamonds is certainly there, and it's part of what motivates the Pyrtites to fight against White
>The point being that tragedy should not be overdone, i.e. pornographic.
This
it's great practise. you're guarenteed an audience and have to limit yourself to a set characterisation. limits breed creativity
Eh, the moon is too insignificant I feel. Moons don't get Diamonds, only planets. If a planet has moons, they are all under the rule of that Diamonds. It's simpler that way, and emphasizes the different aesthetics of each of world.
The "Jupiter Moon Escape" chapter or episode wouldn't be written as an intro, it's meant to be a cutaway or "meanwhile" after we see so much of the Pyrites on Mars, a brief glimpse to the other places of the solar system instead of just seeing emissaries or hearing about it from other Gems, as well as introducing a new character that'll meet the main cast later/next episode
I've written several super cheesy oneshots for my OTP and I am completely unashamed.
Completely reasonable; given your description I can imagine she only breaks composure for a moment when she corrects Pyrite α or β's assumption that White created or detonated the cluster.
Safe, puts a clear and coherent focus on the main character, the underlying theme, etc. A cutaway lets you pull the trigger whenever you want to/feel it would work best.
Thanks
Like I said, I've thought about this a lot. It's been my head for awhile, though I've always been hesitant on actually pulling the trigger and writing this considering how strange it is content wise. Not really a fanfic but at the same time not it's own thing. It's certainly nice to talk about at least, and to get others' opinions on it.
Will it ever be written? Maybe someday, but for now I'm too focused on other ideas.
Is there anything else you were curious about?
Worldbuilding suggestion:
It's pretty clear that the Gems in Steven Universe are artificial life forms. Just go for a post-humanity future run by artificial intelligences. Mysterious human artifacts can remain from secret projects, and these carry the risk of having override codes that can mess with the base code of all present-day AIs, who inherited built-in safety measures that they can't modify or even consciously be aware of. The distinction between hardware and software common today is less significant because the sapient processors rely on operations that have to be physically embedded in the processing medium (there are plausible real reasons for this, but if you're not familiar with them, just gloss over it). As such, the atomic-scale entropic wear and tear on the processors that accumulates over time eventually results in a decline of function and "death". The Ais try to keep their systems cool to reduce this, but overclocking can increase performance in emergencies while increasing the risk of damage and shortening lifespan. Different processor architectures and materials have varying performance, longevity, specialization, etc. and the leaders have the best available (produced with difficulty at great expense, but it allows certain things that cheaper options can't do), while most AIs have one optimized for the range of tasks they're expected to perform. AIs can sync their processors to coordinate actions at close range (this doesn't involve a physical fusion, and the mental fusion is much lower-bandwidth than the internal data processes). The physical forms of the AIs vary, but most are at least somewhat modular, and can swap out components/limbs/etc. as needed, though things like ship and building AIs (which are usually cognitively limited) generally just maintain themselves for their normal purpose. If you want something like the hard-light Gem bodies, you could go with nanotech utility fog that can produce variations from a base state.
Hmm, I don't know
Even with all I've said, the world I'm envisioning isn't really "hard" sci-fi. It's in many ways a sort of archaic-medieval/future tech mix kind of like in the show, were stuff like Spaceships exist, but Gems still fight with things like swords, shields, and spears. And plus, I've never really been into robots, and I don't know much about them to believably create a world around them. I don't wanna bog things down with the technology of how everything works
I appreciate your suggestion though! I just don't feel that it really jives with how I'm imagining things, nor do I think I'd be able to pull it off right
Pretty interesting stuff, user! You should leave a link before the thread dies if you decide to put the first chapter out there.
Ah, I never wrote it
That's the thing, these are all just ideas
I haven't actually put anything down yet, and it might be awhile before I do, since I'm working on something else big right now
Thanks for giving it a chance though! It's nice to know that a few people might legitimately like the idea and be willing to follow it. If I do ever write it, I'll be sure to shill it here
>Eh, the moon is too insignificant I feel.
Earth's moon is almost big enough to be a double planet. And there are moons (Ganymede for example) that are bigger than minor planets like Pluto and in some cases unambiguous planets like Mercury.
I know, I know
I just wanna keep things on a "Planet by Planet" basis, you know? It's much simpler that way. A diamond rules a planet, and all that Planet's moons. And like I said, it gives more clarity to the various aesthetics of each world. Fleshing out the moon or any particular moon would detract from the overall theme of the Planets
Fuck me, I had such a long post, its all gone now.
Anyway, I have a Life is Strange story idea that would be more in line with a series, each having its own primary genre and a large cast with a tight main cast integral to each storyline, with an overarching plot that takes the entire series to resolve. Lofty I know, but I'll never commit to writing it, so I can pretend it would be amazing.
Basically do you have a set number of story important Diamonds aside from White, Red and I think you might have mentioned Blue, or maybe just Neptune. And do you have a specific methodology for how they will 'be' as in their personality, will they have different brands of despotism, will it be hunger games-esque where each planet has a main and secondary export, would that export be their specialised denizens, just some macro world building questions.
Very cool idea, I think it would make a lot of Geth (legion specifically) fans very satisfied.
Depending on vision it could be a very philosophical, morose and even alien sort of story. That said those sorts of stories can be very polarising even when done well.
Oh, sorry about your post getting fucked
But yeah, I do actually have a list of Diamonds and their personalities that I wrote a while back, as well as the aesthetic and design for the planets.
Core Worlds and Diamonds
>Yellow Diamond
Harsh and Brutal leader of Venus, 1st Diamond below White. Leader of the Gem military and Core fleet
>Venus
Harsh, smoky world where Gen armies are raised and trained
>White Diamond
Cold, cruel, authoritarian leader of all Gemkind. Head of the ahem Empire, subservient to none
>New Homeworld
A pristine, crystal white urban world of beauty and effenciency. Vastly terraforrmed after the flee from Old Homeworld (Mercury)
>Red Diamond
Wise, logical, and collected ruler of Mars. 2nd Diamond below white
>Mars
Originally a "Gembasket" mining world, now a hollowed out world home to the underground prisons that house the DA's enemies, as well as a base for mining operations in the asteroid belt
1/2
Outer Worlds and Diamonds
>Orange Diamond
Strict "Big Brother" like ruler of Jupiter and it's moons. 3rd Diamond below white. Lives in the upper atmosphere city of Jupiter
>Jupiter
Most Gems primary live on the various moons, which are also used for mining and bases for expeditions to the asteroid belt, as well as gas collection for fuel for ships.
>Pale Diamond
Maternal, elegant and fanciful ruler of Saturn and it's ring cities, 4th below White Diamond.
>Saturn
Home to many of the upper classes and industrial base of the Gem Empire. Various "ring cities" constructed around using materials from its deconstructed moons. The outer ones home to the lower Gems and factories, and the inner home to the Upper class Gems
>Green Diamond
Malevolent, almost insane ruler of Uranus, 5th below a White Diamond
>Uranus
A world where the cities are located in the gassy upper atmosphere of Uranus, home to the vast Outer Worlds Fleet
>Blue Diamond
Indulgent, decadent, and uncaring ruler of Neptune, 6th Below White
>Neptune
A blue world with a watery upper atmosphere where most of the Gems live. Home to beautiful water statues and architecture as well as gross mistreatment and abuse of lower Gems.
And that is it
Pluto and the various other Dwarf planets remain uncolonized and without Diamonds, though they along with the Kupier belt are used as settings at some parts

Vast Error is basically an improved Homestuck with (after about halfway through) much better, cuter, and more consistent art. The style remaining very pleasing to look at for long periods of time is almost disorienting considering that most of Homestuck proper looks like ass.
I’m actually considering writing one after is done, but I have no idea when that’s going to be, so maybe I’ll start it in between. Definitely not going to be as long as TATF is.
The premise is that Azula meets Guru Patik at one of the air nomad temples after splitting up with those hooded figures from the comics, and he helps her deal with her issues and work to be a better person. I’m still on the fence with how much I want to incorporate the comic plots though, since a lot of it is kind of bad, but I’ll see what happens as I’m writing.
I started writing a Voltron:LD/Mobile Suit Gundam crossover but lost interest.

Its neat, but Zote(the writer) has a habit of making a big reveal and then King Crimsoning to a point where the MC has already processed it. I should elaborate, that really isn't a fetish I feel strongly about. I was motivated by seeing someone post another greentext with a similar premise, only it was horribly-worded and clunky. I thought to myself "I like this idea but it could be done better" so I put a different spin on it, which you just saw there.

But that would be stupid as hell

Have Batman use that belt.
That sounds like it could be an episode of the old 60's series. Not exactly what you described, but I can envision a plot where Batman goes to Rome and does battle with some supervillain down in the coliseum after chasing him through the Vatican.

The author is incorporating stuff from the broader canon like swapping armor digieggs and the Holy Beasts from Tamers, and Ryo and MIlleniumon, and actually incorporating the Dark OCean with a light sprinkling of original stuff like giving the 02 kids their own crests and one OC Chosen Child to fill out the system they've set up around the crests and a handful of OC digimon.
I cannot recommend this good shit enough, but if you're interested, read the other related fics in the series first.
>tfw no Artemis Fowl cartoon adaptation by Genndy Tartakovsky
Based and fanfic-pilled
>want to write
>no fanfic idea I consider good enough to do so
That's far closer to Homestuck than most fanworks that use its characters.
>Start project
>Get some decent progress on it
>"This is fucking stupid."
>Repeat
>Only successfully actually put out a few stories where people could see them
>One of them actually got semi-popular
>Had every single chapter and story beat planned in advance
>Knew where I wanted the characters to go, and how I wanted them to develop.
>Ghosted it a few chapters in because I suddenly hit a writing-motivation-block and couldn't get over it
>When I finally got over it and was motivated to write again, I had suddenly lost all interest in the project
>Still have most of my story ideas archived on a backup drive
>Only look at them for nostalgia's sake
One day. One day I'll go back.
Just let yourself be stupid. It’s fun.
>check it out
>1,404,157 words long
that's a good premise
>lapidot
Trash.
Is that a lot? seems like, what, 200 pages?
No seriously, I have no idea how this sort of ratio works.
I unironically like harem fics
Name some good ones.
I have jacked off atleast 13 times to this

Did a small, not really accurate test and in word I could fit around 800 words averaging character lengths between 2 to 5 with standard spacing at size 11 font which is just what word defaults to.
So if I'm being generous and just saying that a page could average between 700 to 900, that's still well over 1000 pages.
Again, not really an accurate test, but 1 million words for a fanfic seems a bit crazy.
So it's a longer Stephen King novel then.
Unless they approach Henry Darger, I'm not impressed.
I don't even want to know what Subspace Emissary is about, it's just too much.
Around middle school I wrote two EEnE fanfictions, one based on a fourth Ed being added, and another that was a time travel/incoming meteor story that borrowed concepts from Mario anf Luigi Partners in Time.
With the amount I consume that's tantamount to asking what my favorite individual Youtube video is. I wouldn't say any of them so far have been memorable enough to stick in my mind like a favorite book, that kinda comes with the territory of branching off of an official property that has its own story.

Continuity marches on, but this is how the series ended in my heart.
Not even the original captures the feeling of this comic. I adore it so much.
In regards to SU, i’m a fan of the connieswap AU. They take on a lot for their premise, but I think they’ve done a good job making the characters feel like their canon counterparts while still unique as their own characters. Plus they’ve really become consistent in the last couple years, so it’s fun having something you know will update.
Pic related. Early art piece attached to the fic, the second episode. Connie and the crystal gems heading to the moon tower thing.
Just look up connieswap in Archive of our own and you should find it. There are a lot of episodes
the fact that there was a full, canon connieswap episode... makes it one of the best ever
