Literally the most popular superhero of all time

>Literally the most popular superhero of all time
>Has no good comic runs

How is this possible?

Attached: Iron-Man-Marvel-Comics-Superhero.jpg (1920x1080, 572K)

His original book was good and also, armor wars.

>i have never read any iron man comics

Extremis was decent and Haunted that spun from it was fucking great.

He's good now because the MCU knew when to kill him. Tony Stark is the kind of character that goes through the same character development over and over again.

because no one cares about comics

they treat his rogues gallery like shit.

Yea Forums automatic translator matrix:

"I'm a dumbfuck who knows shit-all about Iron Man, would one of you kind souls recommend a good IM comic run?"

>Literally the most popular superhero of all time
what you talking about? batman, superman and spiderman are much much more popular than him.

They are all that way. Characters that cant evolve and one day retire into new positions are poorly written.
Spidy should have been married and had kids by the 80s, becoming a family man and college professor.
Batman beyond is a fitting end for Bruce, a stubborn old man sitting in a cave.
Even Thor needs to one day accept (far into the future) his duty as King and lead Asgard and defend the 9 as his father did before him.

Everything ends

>>Literally the most popular superhero of all time
He's not
>>Has no good comic runs
He has several

Because you are a normie, which is fine, but you are also dumb, which is not.

You can say the same for Captain Marvel, Captain America, etc. Their writers keep using the same "Carol loses her powers for the nth time." / "Steve stops being Captain America for the nth time."

I hate how this board is slowly becoming as casual as r/comics

Iron Man was b-list as FUCK before 2008.

>batman, superman
It's so sad seeing DCucks are still stuck in the 90s

live action adaptions invite all the shitposters here.

I don't give a shit about DC. Take your company wars and go.

Who has, actually?

Iron Man was one of the two main protagonist of a major Marvel event right before the movies, he had the series that redefined its character right before the movies, he was the main focus of most of the Avengers' drama (but you'll say the Avengers were B-list too) and most importantly, it was known between comic book readers.
Movies that let the character be known to everyone has nothing to do with being an A-lister, or you think Batman was a B-lister before the movies?

Because he only became popular through the films, OP.

A lot of people but almost none of them on Yea Forums.

i liked superior iron man and all new all diferente iron man before he died

CORPORATE MAN GOOD

ARMY MAN BAD

>Carol Danvers had several great runs. You're just too much of a casual. KSD's run is totally legendary
This is how Tonyfags feel when they try to hype up Micheline's, Busiek's, O'Neil's and Fraction's mediocre runs.

No good current runs, you mean. They should swap Slott and Simone, I liked her guest issues.

They’re not pushing Iron Man merch or tie-ins so much as they could be, though.

That’s becuase at best, Iron man was a B-lost hero, so it’s not like Marvel cared about him enough to give him good stories.

Just watch the movies. They’re good.

All characters are like this.

Someone pointed out this is one reason manga works better than western comics, is because they have a clear arc with beginning and end and then that's it, instead of trying to keep the same characters fresh over and over for 50+ years.

One of the other reasons is that the stories tend to be written by one creative voice as well. I don't read much manga but these both sound like sensible arguments.

He's got good enough runs. Just because they're not Batman-Tier hyped doesn't mean they're not good. They're just not typical superhero stories. Iron Man's Mad Men to the usual Capes' Breaking Bad.

>Tonyfags
>mediocre runs

Oh look, it's that guy again

Superman has sold more solo comic books than Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Thor combined.

So has Batman for that matter. And the Superman solo movies and the Batman solo movies have put more butts in seat and sold more tickets than the IM movies (and if you don't count Avengers 2.5, aka the so-called Cap 3, all the solo movies for Cap, IM, Hulk and Thor).

>character keeps being reset by new authors who add worse and worse retcons to the character like the adoption, literal rebirth, being three versions of himself smushed into one, just fucking laying there in a coma etc
>still dealing with the fallout of shitting on him so hard in Civil War
>MCU synergy except none of the writing staff are as funny as RDJ and they can't balance the improvvy nature of his Iron Man's quipping with the emotion you get from a human actor emoting alongside his jokes
>current run is just REMEMBER THE OLD IRON MAN COMICS? REMEMBER??? DO YOU REMEMBER DEMON IN A BOTTLE??? ALSO, MOMMY ISSUES.

Iron Man is sold on concept, and not material available.
>Rich billionaire and engineering genius Howard Hughes type builds super weapon armor and fights evil with it.
However the unfortunate truth is that Shell Head here has very limited stories actually worth reading, one being his struggle with alcohol. Combine that with a lackluster rogues gallery, and that's why we're here now. Truth is Iron Man was a B-C lister before the movies hit, and frankly his only claim to fame. Although what I have noticed is that people seemed to respond well to Superior Iron Man. Is the way to "fix" Tony Stark is to abandon all notion that he's a good person, and instead play up asshole billionaire just playing hero for fame and profit like a worse version of Booster Gold?

Attached: Iron Man Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes.png (930x1600, 618K)

>people seemed to respond well to Superior Iron Man.
By "people" you mean just Yea Forums.
>Is the way to "fix" Tony Stark is to abandon all notion that he's a good person
No. That'll just further alienate the fans of the character who are already tired of writers demonizing him and the constant MCU-ification of the character.

People like Superior because it was goofy moustache twirling fun, but not something with staying power. Iron Man worked pretty well with the secret identity, and Tony having to fight in both the fronts of doing good and honourable business/saving the world through normal means like his HIV vaccination distribution/green energy initiatives and espionage vs. saving people in his mech suit.

I also like Iron Man as the kind of hero you’d want in a natural disaster, he’d be a great firefighter/response/search and rescue hero who gets into shenanigans rather than a guy trying to spread himself too thin.

I can also see something silly involving a bit of espionage as having him run for office in an attempt to keep out super villains and ending up president being a fun storyline for him.

>be big on MCU synergy
>don’t kill his shitty retcon mother and instead give Tony a cute illegitimate daughter and make him a cool single dad

>>character keeps being reset by new authors who add worse and worse retcons to the character like the adoption, literal rebirth, being three versions of himself smushed into one, just fucking laying there in a coma etc
Not to mention there's a comatose Tony whose body was just stolen. Bendis never followed up on who or what stole his body so there's technically a second Tony out there in the void.

Also the AI of himself.

I've heard pic-related is good although I've yet to get around to reading it myself. A shame we never got a properly alcoholic Stark in the movies.

Attached: 3074845-iron man #128 - page 1.jpg (620x960, 119K)

Demon in a Bottle does a surprisingly decent handling of alcoholism in a time period where it often was misunderstood.

me

If youre gonna post like a retard who doesn't want to outright state what you thread is about then go to Yea Forums or Yea Forums whetes that's acceptable behavior. Here, we don't act like faggots.
Also, read Denny O'Neil

This is a bad recommendation because its a short read. The actual bulk of the alchoholic storyline occurs a few dozen issues later when Rhodey gets the armor

>RDJ wanted to do it despite worrying it might make him relapse, so i'm glad he didn't
>they did a few echoes in with Tony being a self destructive drunk, pushing people away etc due to his dying in IM2 and then losing everything and getting stuck out in the snow in IM3 and that was it
Shame, but I get why it wasn't done properly. It'd be hard to not make it a melodrama. I feel like the wheelchair storyline could have made into a neat movie, though.

To fix Iron Man you need to:
>play up the Howard Hughes angle
Have him start directing some movies. Do some "Eyes Wde Shut" stuff with the (((Elite))) that he finds himself tangled with.
>go back to Superior
Not exactly him being a villain, but simply enjoying himself instead of alternating between sad puppy and quipster.
-
Generally just take notes from characterslike Urqhuart/Underwood, Daniel Plainview, Bobby Axelord, etc, and have him behave like a bilionaire. Green Arrow does the "bleeding heart Liberal Billionaire" thing better, and Batman already does "billionaire hero". Give him another niche to play with, that of the morally grey guy who's a businessman/inventor first, and then an adventurer; not a superhero, an adventurer. Give him quirks. I mean, read up on Nikola Tesla and you'll see what kind of person he was.

LMAO
Retard most popular marvel character if not comic character is Spider-man. Don't @ me.

Because Iron Man was a C list character. Only reason why he was a major character in the MCU was because they couldn’t use X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man.

Spider-man you dumbass

>we never got a MCU Living Laser

I've read them all from #1 until Bendis took over

Attached: iron man2.jpg (1680x1050, 1.13M)

>Ghost and now Mandarin taken from Tony in the MCU

>Literally the most popular superhero of all time
No. Maybe for the last decade.

Faggot op aside, any of y'all read Iron man 2020? How is it?

>She’d be a great firefighter/response/search and rescue hero
FTFY

Attached: MXWc1rI.png (1024x1534, 745K)

Does Rescue even do anything nowadays? I feel like Pepper only dons the armour during big crossover events or crises.

She was last used in Bendis Iron Man run.

Most popular hero of the last ten years, in any other time period he is at best a B tier ensemble cast member. Hardly the most popular ever.

because he’s not the most popular

Newfag

Attached: 220px-Iron_Man_150.jpg (220x331, 39K)

Well, I mean he lost 90% of them when the Cold War ended. Many who were left were not...great.

>Most popular superhero of all time

That'd be either Superman or Batman.

Love this. Everything ends but Brings about beginnings anew.

>of all time

Oh, user, nice bait, mate.

Attached: 1560360715558.jpg (646x431, 60K)

Hypervelocity was good

Superman hasn't had a good movie since the 80s, o for example here in europe he's a z-lister compared to Iron Man or Batman (although the recent DCU offerings did a lot to erode the goodwill towards Batman).

that thumbnail looks like Tony carrying a baby

he does seem to enjoy doing that

Attached: RCO018.jpg (1332x2048, 776K)

Because he's not the most popular of all time. He is the most popular currently, which if you are hopeful, means he WILL be getting good runs now that people care. If you are smart, you will realize he is only popular because of the mcu, so anything good to happen will be solely movie related. People don't care about comics, idjit.

hes a new kid who only knows what the movies have told. the entire question says hes new

its done at this point. talking to these guys about comics like they gaf or have read anything at all is useless. nothing but tourists who want people to tell them their new stories are cool even though historically, this isnthe worst period for comics there has ever been

do you think you're disputing what he said?

Kek

Suck it faggots. This moment cemented Iron Man being the most popular superhero for generations to come. Every child on Earth will grow up saying their favorite hero is Iron Man.

>Literally the most popular superhero of all time
No, THEY are.

Attached: 4E3D4ACE-E5E4-4D11-89C1-E134E2521484.jpg (900x900, 90K)

Yeah, let's see who's still talking about Iron Bitch in 10 more years when we're 8 phases deep and we have X-Men and Fantastic Four shit going on. Captain Marvel will take his place in the movies and she'll sacrifice herself to beat Galactus or some shit. Shell Head is going right back into C-tier where he belongs.

If that actually happens then that's fine by me. Maybe Marvel will actually start caring again and stopping putting their shitty big name writers on his books simply because he's popular in the MCU.

Superman definitely has some good runs, what're you talking about, OP?

And hes not even gonna be in any more movies now that RDJ has moved on, he'll be back to C-lister in a decade

>>Literally the most popular superhero of all time

Attached: 1564877955193.jpg (890x954, 751K)

Give it a year no one will remember this shit. Give a decade no one will care about the MCU.

>"nobody remembers any character from Avatar"
>"But Endgame being the highest grossing film of all time now means Iron Man is the most popular superhero ever"
yeah bud
