Why is Archer so shitty now?

The last 2 epsiodes have been better than the last 3 seasons combined.

I'm looking forward to the finale.

I loved the Noir and island season, though.

He got tired of the Spy stuff and so just started freewheeling. Honestly Storywise I've enjoyed each as their own thing.

Reed wants the show to end so he can do other shit but Archer's too profitable and FX keeps vetoing his pitches for non-Archers shows (like SJW female bounty hunters).

Also, he's grown pissy at real life shit (can't have the good guys called ISIS anymore) and when he tried to retool the show, fans reacted negatively (Vice) or in the case of the seven season (the detective agency season), not only reacted negatively but put their money where their mouth was an refused to watch the show, causing ratings to collapse to record lows.

In response (since FX won't let the show die) Reed went all "commedia dell'arte" and retooled the show so that each season would have a new premise/setting/characters but the same voice actors playing characters that were visually retooled based off of the Archer characters with similar sounding names.

Which caused ratings to tank even WORSE than they did during Archer Vice and Archer Detective Agency.

So FX is now ordering the return to the old canon and Reed removed as showrunner and he'll be lucky if he's even allowed to voice Ray going forward.

Reed was trying to pitch an idea so stupid they wouldn't renew the show with Archer Vice. It didn't work, the execs kept gobbling all the shit he could shovel, so he's literally quitting.

Dreamland was solid, but Danger Island was terrible. Aside from Parrot Kreiger.

I thought it was fine, but the season suffered from having to reintroduce characters who we already half know. It also had the effect of reducing the number of things they could make callbacks to for jokes which is a problem seeing as that's mostly what Archer is these days.

I enjoyed all the coma seasons at least a little bit. I think it definitely missed out on some of its potential, particularly I wanted there to be clues everywhere about what was happening in real life. They could set up the overall plot of the season with the main plot of whatever gimmick and then a B plot almost of whatever is going on to Archer in reality, like a season being symbolic of him getting a massive surgery/operation and every now and then random characters voices cut through the dream to tell Archer to hang in there.
Everybody's dream characters could slowly start to abandon him and grow more distant each season as they give up on him in real life. stuff like that.

They didn't do that because of the reaction to Dreamland; that they doubled down on divorcing the dream seasons from the main canon and shitting on fans who wanted updates on what was going on with the cast while Archer was in a coma.

That would have been cool.
