Used to be caught up on all things DC/Marvel, thanks to an abundance of free time and the Win-O threads.
Fell off around the summer of 2017 (got married), so basically stopped reading around Metal and Legacy respectively.
Want to jump back in, but don't want to be too lost. Basically I would like a run-down on the significant and semi-significant things that have happened since then.
Who's died? Who's come back? What were the important and/or good storylines? (Not just events, but impactful solo stories as well).
I've decided to read through Dark Nights: Metal and a couple other things because they look good, but am willing to just ready synopsis of the rest.
Obviously this is a lot to ask, but any help would be greatly appreciated
Jeez user, you know a lot of shit happened. >be more specific, I will answer while I can.
Luis Lee
Even just a list of storyline names would be fine, I can use those and just go to a wiki.
But basically, I'm curious about status quo changes for the major characters. Where are the Bat-Family, Super Family, etc.
Gabriel Wilson
>Bendis disbanded the Super-Family. Jon Kent, The Superboy, has been aged up 7 years off panel and is going to be shipped off to The Legion of Superheroes >Batman and Catwoman still aren't married, Tom King is padding the hell out of his run, all with a retarded Bane plot aided by Flashpoint Batman/Thomas Wayne >Wally West, the original, is back, and went through character assassination in Heroes In Crisis by murdering a bunch of B-C list heroes by accident. >Doomsday Clock is STILL going on and no longer canon. >Shazam is back with a new series but I think that's delayed too >Bendis has a Young Justice book with "Jinny Hex" (who is basically his Kitty Pryde) and "Teen Lantern" proving he hasn't read a single GL issue in his life >Dick Grayson is now "Ric" because he has amnesia >There's some event called Leviathan happening right now written by Bendis which is only there to destroy organizations cluttering DC
>got married belated congrats, here's hoping it lasts and doesn't end in divorce like almost every other marriage
Austin Flores
Bendis left Marvel and instantly became one of the top 3 writers for DC.
Marvel still has a power vacuum, but no one has made any obvious plays to fill the void left by Bendis. Also, Marvel can't trhow Ewing under the bus anymore because he somehow memed his Hulk run into one of Marvel's most popular books that's even outselling Batman.
The current Spiderman run is slowly trying to undo One More Day, and the main antagonist is someone who crawled out of Hell itself just to get revenge on Spiderman, We still don't know who it is, but theories are everyone from Judas Traveller to Flash Thompson.
Oh, and Flash became the new Anti-Venom and got killed by Osborn only 2 or 3 months later.
Lincoln Moore
Dark Knights was good, when you finish read No Justice and then Snyder run on Justice League. For Superman, Bendis happened. He is writing Action Comics ( with the supporting cast of the Daily Bugle and Metropolis) and Superman ( Space Saga shit with Jor-El alive and Superman’s older than before Jon). Bendis is currently writing a summer event that spin off Action Comics, Event Leviathan. And you might keep reading Superman because the lad will bring back the Legion of Super Heroes.
Angel Cox
Almost forgot, the new Hulk run has made it so that EVERY gamma enhanced character is basically immortal and will come back from the dead if given enough time. So there are a lot of gamma characters who might resurface sooner or later.
Doc Samson has came back to life and died twice in the last year.
Brayden Sanders
Thanks guys, this is helping, especially the DC info.
What's been going on over at Marvel this past year?
Grayson Russell
In the 4 years you left, X-Men was not read worthy. Maybe Grand-Design but besides that, nada. But then Hickman comes back. >user, you should really read House of X/Powers of X
Thomas Gomez
Jason Aaron finished his 6 year run on Thor with the spring event War of The Realms. But he will finally finish with King Thor later this year
Jayden Walker
On the DC aside: >Flash remains remarkedly consistently unmemorable >Batman got worse, so did Superman >wonder comics line is pretty good so far, just approach the bendis ones with caution >Doomsday clock is...a thing
For marvel >Dr Strange is finally good again >Spider-Man improved, superior ock also has a good series >Avengers and GOTG is very very meh >Aaron is starting his final section of the Thor run with king Thor vs necrosword Loki
Isaac Wilson
>Doomsday clock is...a thing It's been so long since the last issue I forgot that's still going on.
This is the 5 or 6th time I've found myself thinking "oh yeah, that's a book".
Jose Green
>Who's died? Arsenal, Blue Jay, Commander Steel, Gnarrk, Gunfire, Hot Spot, Lagoon Boy, Nemesis, Poison Ivy, the Protector, Red Devil, and the Tattooed Man. >Who's come back? Poison Ivy. Or maybe she was cloned? Not sure.
Daniel Bell
Every day I am more and more surprised at just how shitty every Snyder story is. It just catches me off guard. Like a sunrise or a blooming flower... except the opposite. My breath is taken away.
Goddamn awful fucking books.
Xavier Lopez
I feel that DC has worse writers, to be honest, which is just depressing.
David Morris
I credit that to them buying Marvels worst and expecting DC fans to cheer about it.
Wyatt Hernandez
Does anyone want to say a few words explaining about any of these storylines? (taken from wikipedia)
DC: Super Sons of Tomorrow Milk Wars Batman: The Wedding Sink Atlantis Heroes in Crisis The Witching Hour Drowned Earth Year of the Villain The Terminus Agenda Event Leviathan
Marvel: Venomverse Avengers/Champions: Worlds Collide X-Men: Mojo World-Wide Venom Inc. Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey Venomized Poison-X Damnation Infinity Countdown Infinity Wars Defenders: The Best Defense Hunt for Wolverine Extermination X-Men: Black Return of Wolverine Spider-Geddon Secret Warps Acts of Evil Age of X-Man Wolverine: Infinity Watch War of the Realms House of X/Powers of X Absolute Carnage
Jonathan Smith
>Batman: The Wedding Batman and Catwoman were going to get married but then they didn't. Somehow Bane is responsible and everyone is working for him even though none of that makes any sense. The reaction to the story is more interesting than the story itself.
Benjamin Peterson
>Acts of evil Heroes fight other heroes’ rogues >Infinity Wars Gamora kills Thanos, everyone gets merged with another person in the soul stone, leading to secret wraps where we follow the merged heroes >Damnation Dr Strange resurrects Las Vegas but brings Mephisto with him, in the end Mephisto is replaced by Johnny Blaze as king of hell >The Best Defense One shots with the OG4 (except it’s a time travelled old man strange from the future) leading to a confrontation with Nebulus or whatever the old rogue is called
>Who's died? Everyone. >Who's come back? Everyone. >What were the important and/or good storylines? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Cameron King
>Bendis has a Young Justice book with "Jinny Hex" (who is basically his Kitty Pryde) and "Teen Lantern" proving he hasn't read a single GL issue in his life Why does everyone think Jinny is DC Kitty Pride? HWat does she have that makes her the dc Kitty Pride?
