Read the comic

It would be interesting if someone with a completely different art style like Brian Bolland or Dave Gibbons redrew this book.

Would fix the artwork but not story

Soooo, is anything miller good?

I posted why I liked the art on this book in another thread today, but I guess I could repost it here:

Miller was a master of using negative space to his advantage. He uses negative space to emphasize the heroic qualities of character's actions without having to verbally explain it.
-the 16-panel grids in TDKR were a brilliant way of conveying exposition that could have taken up much more space. He had a really fine economy of storytelling.
-In TDKR especially he lends Batman a mythic quality through his use of exaggerated physiques, but still had a grounded quality about him. He had a nice midpoint for a while between realism and abstraction.
-Miller's values of art just aren't the same as your typical readers - his influences range more in the vein of Moebius, Toth, and Kurtzman.
-Frank Miller has a distinct visual rhythm few artists have. 16-panel and 8-panel grids, repeating motifs and imagery, big epic splash pages.
-This is more credit to his colorists, but the general two-tone coloring technique on his work makes it so minimal yet so powerful. Every splash page just pops because of the minimal color palette.

Basically, Miller has good sense of Rhythm, aesthetics, and movement few others have.

From a narrative perspective, every issue of this book has an operatic quality to it. The grim 'n' gritty interpretation of this book is stupid because if you really think about it, it gets fuckin goofier as it goes on. Batman's costume changes to represent the escalation of threats. The drama and the villains change in each issue to give it an operatic quality, with a kind of apocalyptic scale to it. It moves from Two-Face>mutants>Joker>superman, each issue slowly getting more hellscapeish and mythic.

>story feels forced
Explain

Miller's art really is the ultimate pleb filter

>story is forced
>artwork is bad

Is this is all you can say about it, then you're too unintelligent to partake in any worthwhile discussion and are wasting our time. Fuck off.

Batman can't give up crime fighting even though it does jack shit for reducing crime

Batman has to fight Superman because Superman is fighting for 'Merica?
What makes Batman the one to make such decisions?

He couldn’t hive it up because he kept hearing about the crimes the mutant gang did on tv, that and it’s painted as an addiction for him that he can’t help but indulge. And of course Batman gets to make those decisions wihout caring what others think, that’s what all superheroes inherently do.

Batman comes across as a sociopathic vigilante.
What holds the comic back is that they're better Batman comics out there.

You sound fucking retarded. Prove me wrong.

Taking Batman into complicated international politics does not work
Batman fights for the soul of Gotham
Plus making Batman into a near fascist does no justice.

>OP is a fag
Prove me wrong

Didn't know I would trigger so much butthurt
Other polls and discussions seem to split the TDKR down the middle as well
Just don't see the high praise of it being worthy

Name them. I've been reading a bunch of Batman comics, and all of them so far except Year One and TDKR are duds.

Is summer almost over yet

OP is a brainlet

Long Halloween ain't bad. Not great either but does capture a noir element.
Same can't be said for TDKR

The Long Halloween was one of the duds I read. All of the Batman comics by Loeb (Dark Victory, When in Rome, Hush) have been mediocre, though I like Tim Sale. TDKR is more mythic than noir, as mentioned above.

I find that Batman is at his best in a noir setting
Personally I liked Hush a lot
He is supposed to be a detective after all.

OP must be fucking illterate. None of the discussion in this thread is worth it. Did any of you remember the basics of argument from freshman English?

>Talks about freshman English

Summer fag

If it got a better artist it wouldn't be as much of a pain to read

>"Prove my opinion wrong"

Based
Panels are a fucking pain to read.
Miller has a hard on for overly muscled Batman and joker.

>The Long Halloween was one of the duds I read
I wouldn't call it a dud, but it certainly doesn't stick the landing. Even with its failings it's far from mediocre, though. Dark Victory and Hush have never done much for me, though.

TDKR is just okay. It doesn't have the raw fuck-you-I'll-do-my-own-thing Ronin does, nor the absolute polish and beauty of 300.

Meant to reply to

the movies are unironically better

No it wouldn't
Miller is one of the few good artists comics ever had

If only Michael Ironside had voiced Batman again, it would've been beautiful.

I liked the animation
not a fan of robin, but I just like the story scenario. I enjoy seeing how bruce's obsession gets the best of him and he can't leave it behind.
Id also defend this voice for batman.

Good post

Retards who fly together 'tard together

>Taking Batman into complicated international politics does not work
How is "don't be a super-hero" complicated international politics?
>Batman fights for the soul of Gotham
Which he did in TDKR

Agreed. I honestly reccomend the movies over the comic in this case

Fights Superman cause Reagan bad and Superman bad
Deep story telling breh

I feel like this a whole discussion over what Batman means to all of us

DKR is the biggest pleb filter. Anyone who dislikes the art knows shit about storytelling. They should stick to Immortal Cuck and Supersons.

its a terrible comic

I concur

Truly

Miller slander reminds me that some comic book fans genuinely think that Kirby was a bad artist. Disgusting

More than most cape comics, yes

gibbon's artstyle is uglier than puke, tho

>Likes Long Halloween
No wonder you hate DKR. Long Halloween is terrible, with Sale's art being its only saving grace.
