The entirety of Earth-47 is a reference to 70s psychedelic culture. These guys first appeared in Animal Man and later incorporated into the Nu52. Prez also exists in this Earth.

Earth-36 is based on the Big Bang Comics Universe, which was itself inspired by Superfriends and silver age DC Comics.

While Morrison was writing Final Crisis, he wanted to create analogues for his four favorite Superman analogues from other comic book companies, Extreme Comics' Supreme, Astro City's Samaritan, Big Bang Comics' Ultiman, and Marvel Comics' Sentry. He thought that creating analogues of analogues would be a nice way for DC to pay homage to all the comic book companies who have paid homage to them in the past. This resulted in Supremo, Savior, Optiman, and Guardsman, respectively.

When Morrison was writing Multiversity, he wanted to create a home for each of the Superman analogue analogues he had created in Final Crisis. There was already a Marvel Comics analogue Earth in the DC Multiverse, Earth-8, home of the Retaliators (also known as Planet Angor), so Morrison just put Guardsman there. He created Earth-35 and the Super Americans for Supremo, Earth-34 and the Light Brigade for Savior, and Earth-36 and Justice 9 for Optiman.

You know with this coming up, I've been thinking of getting Multiversity. Does anyone here have the deluxe edition? Is it worth the price vs the tpb?

Might not be much useful considering I'm very much a DC casual, but I bought it based on the good advice here, and I don't regret it at all, it's an excellent book and cheap considering the page length.

Tomasi made one of them the Suicide Squad Earth. It was... idk it appeared once. Shame that Snyder is probably the only one who might bother trying to fill-in one of those. TBF I suppose it was really just kinda disappointing (The Suicide Squad Earth, the one where everyone had edgy assassin / ninja redesigns), since it wasn't really rooted in any history, like even the dumb earths in the guidebook was based of something.

Unironically would liked if one of those was the Shogun of Steel or the German Expressionist Cinema Trilogy of Elseworlds.

Pretty darn good the best DC right now. But not as good as his other ongoings.

The suicide squad earth is just such a wasted concept. Seriously hoping for one of those mystery Earths be the universe of Batman Holy Terror. A theocratic world should be a lot of fun to explore and flesh out. Too bad it only ended at an open ending.
