This is strange/interesting. Into the Wand is a pretty solid lore episode, but I don't think most people would pick it as their favorite, and Booth Buddies is a just ok shipping episode that didn't really mean anything long term.

It just feels weird when there are like two questions that could both have short answers and they just stop at one. For what it's worth I wasn't particularly interested in/didn't participate in the AMA myself though.

You'd have to be a special sort of idiot to (1) establish that spells are sentient beings, and then (2) have your supposedly-sympathetic protagonist decide to destroy all magic.

Okay, genius. Then you tell me what happened to all the sentient spells and the members of the magic high commission. Hekapoo was pretty clear about it. You destroy the magic, all that shit ceases to exist. They are all dead.
Imagine Steven coming to the conclusion that gems are the problem with the universe and not the shitty system that the Diamonds put in place. That's Star VS's ending.
Even worse, imagine Steven deciding that electricity is the problem with the universe and somehow neutralizing it everywhere forever.
That's what magic was to the multiverse. It was a precious natural resource that existed since the beginning, and a girl throwing a tantrum took it away to solve a comparatively small problem.
Reminder that Eclipsa's plan was awesome and only endangered the life of three queens (one of them responsible of the current problem).

Glossaryck's whole "magic is the problem" logic makes no sense when he stated magic was in very good hands with the baby, making only Star/Moon/Eclipsa/MHC troublesome.
I haven't been seeing it much in this specific thread, but I don't really get all the rage in other Star threads in the last day about Nefcy saying she wanted an "open-ended" ending. Like, an epilogue where Star and Marco are married or have 2.5 kids or whatever would feel dumb and unnecessary, kinda like the Harry Potter epilogue (which is probably a bad example since Nefcy has said she likes HP and has brought up the possibility of doing J.K. Rowling-style additions to canon after the fact, but yeah). I also think the dimensions being merged as enough potential for future plots without spelling out exactly how everything's gonna be until all the characters die, unlike the ending some people apparently wanted where Star just goes back to Earth with Marco to live as normies and then that's literally it.
But then I'm also fine with magic being destroyed, and really the only alternative, if it hadn't been, would be the series ending with the possibility of Meteora vs. the Forces of Evil and I will never understand why so many apparently think that would have been better. In that scenario, it's either shifting focus on an entirely new character or Star just goes back to Earth.
I'm really not trying to defend the show as a whole, I disliked most of the second half of it, but I actually didn't have many problems with the ending because it took the show somewhere unexpected and steered the plot completely away from some of the weird shit it'd fallen into (ex. now the audience has to give a fuck about Eclipsa's struggles to be liked as queen). Maybe Nefcy phrasing it as leaving more opportunities for fan fic was kinda stupid, but I get what she means about an ending where people can come to their own interpretations about how things will play out being more satisfying than an ending spelling out exactly how everything will be.

Moo approved on New Monster Town and pointed out Mewmans were to blame for not talking to Eclipsa about their concerns, even though she was shown open to do so in the episode she liberated the mewmans Star imprisoned.
For Moon, monsters were no longer the problem but being unable to forgive Eclipsa for the incident in Season 3... which she later does when Eclipsa is the only one who defends her in the tabern.

Tom and Marco have no chemistry besides one episode in season 2. From season 3 on the show just keeps telling us they are best friends but never actually shows it. This is because Nefcy and all the female writers that remained after BfM dont understand male friendship. This is not surprising since women don't understand brotherhood, honour, loyalty or camaraderie. Whether it be biologic or cultural, they literally and unironically have no capacity for it.

The point of that plotline is was to give Star a goal and struggle for it while Marco supported her, not an analysis of real world issues or even of the issues on Mewni. Monster rights was just a shallow plot device for the sake of developing Star as a character, not world building.
It's just a cause she picks up to show the viewer how mature she is and that she's ready to be queen in contrast to the earlier seasons where she just wanted to have fun and shirk all responsibility. It is just a backdrop for Star to develop herself and her relationship with Marco to finally confess to him.

Even if you do have a character doing shitty or irrational things a good storyteller keeps these actions consistent, telegraphs them, or at least gives you hints of what the thought process that leads to the decision is. That is not the case in Star VS.
For the most part, Star and Marco dont even act like 14/15 year olds and their relationship is closer to an adult couple's. This is why it's weird when at times they act like irrational 8 year olds who suddenly decided they hate trains and love planes.

What was the point of this episode? It builds up to nothing. Someone should have asked Nefcy how they even come up with episodes. It feels like instead of planning a coherent story from start to finish, every boarder made up their own ideas for episodes independent of eachother and not having yet decided what happens in the end.

I don't know, but the way Toffee is portrayed as an asshole always felt so forced to me.
I get that he's a general, but he always seemed more like a tragic character rather than a merciless killer.
The fact that every bad thing he did was off-screen didn't help either.
A shame that they went this way with him, one of the most interesting and theorized characters of the show imo.

I thought of something. The whole message of the last couple seasons was "racism is bad." The final conflict arises from people acting on racist ideas and trying to hurt the monsters. We even get genocide as a theme. The whole final season was setting up a narrative about racism.
But then Star defeats the villains by destroying magic. What does that have to do with racism? That racism is powered by magic? It doesn't connect to the overall theme or message the story was trying to convey.

The perfect ending, given that situation, and after all build-up was to follow Eclipsa's plan (who was finally popular) and have 4 Butterflies + ALL allied kingdoms to fight the Solarian army.

I mean, with Globgor and Star's friends injured, coupled with the dark goop in the magic realm. They won't have time to round up everyone without suffering more deaths.
Magic really screws up stakes in the finale.

The only way for the erase magic ending to make sense was to link it to the dark corruption on the realm of magic. What if the darkness infect all the magic, including the MHC for killing two birds with one stone, and the only way to stop it from destroying all dimensions (including Earth) is to end magic? The problem is that would mean Eclipsa did something wrong and that can't happen
But the message would be stronger, because unlike Solaria's war, who not even mewmans wanted, this battle would be one everybody would willingly participate to protect their neighbours, friends and lovers.
It's Mewni choosing what they want their land to be and not two dimensions colliding, plus all magic beings dying (even though most of them did nothing to deserve it)
