Zira is a better villain then scar

She's much truer to life, I've met a half dozen Ziras, but I've never met a Scar.

She never overthrew Simba and Kovu will likely wind up serving Simba's first son anyway.

To be fair the kings of the past (see Mufasa) were perfectly fine with letting the drought take place. They were willing to starve out their own people and kingdom just to show Scar a lesson.

Scar kept all his people alive and fed dispite this.

I always found Zira interesting, like as a character and in terms of her motivation, but it might be hard to call her better when said motivation entirely depends on Scar's own role. Like just by her concept she's subordinate to him and I guess that'd make him the better villain, even though I might actually like Zira more. He also has the better character design, but I think Zira's song is honestly more memorable. Guess that adds up to Scar being better but Zira actually being done pretty well for a Disney sequel character.

Also I like whenever there's a villain that has children. There are just so many in kids' movies etc. that just feel completely sexless because they only exist to be EVIL and their name will die with them when the hero kills them, or something. I dunno, I find the opposite refreshing and I thought it was cool that she was a female villain and a mother (and didn't even get redeemed).

Her character would have been some much better if Scar was actually Kovu's son and not just some cub he "took in". Zira wanting to make her son King and avenge his father is better motivation than a zealot follow gone awry. Too bad Disney was afraid of lions mating with their cousins like anyone cares.

Disney doesn't like sympathetic villains. Or at least, they didn't at the time.

speaking of incest, I’ve always wondered if Zira was either always supposed to be a member of Pride Rock’s lionesses or
was just some rogue lioness with starving cubs that stayed there during Scar’s reign. at least the latter could explain how Kovu could be Scars heir without actually being his child.
