Krom was always portrayed as extremely dumb but they really did remove his threat. I suppose that was to make the new characters seem more threatening.
I support the theory that Meelo got sloppy because of over-exposure to thots. I've seen it happen all the time, one day cute girls are looking in your direction and not screaming or wretching the next your server farm's door has been jimmied and you're getting several million cryptominers from China, Russia, and Antartica.

You're excusing bad writing. Ok, Krom being funny was enjoyable. But Meelo should never drop his guard,at least not until Meika explained herself.
There should be another flashback episode right after Crater game, where Meika tells her story how she met Pike and what how she's connected with the RM's. But that would cost extra money and the studio could not afford it from what I gather.
