MCU does decently in Japan, not terrible, just not the numbers it does in most of the rest of the world. MCU movies will generally lose out to hype anime movies of their popular properties. This is likely because Japan already has their own superheroes in tokusatsu and even shounen in a way

Sort of unrelated, looked up the Japanese box office records, no marvel movies in there or in the franchise total records, but whatever much more interestingly, Bohemian Rhapsody is the 16th highest grossing movie in Japan all time, and is still playing somehow.

The Japanese have always been giant fiends for dad rock and '80s metal. They didn't give up on big choruses and wanky guitar solos following the rise of grunge and alt rock in the early '90s like the US and most of Europe did, so it's remained consistently popular.
To put it in perspective, Mr. Big sold more tickets in Japan back during the '90s than Madonna and Michael Jackson put together.
