I didn't watch the second half of the last season, I know that she destroyed all magic, but did she really killed people? Or is it just "now that they don't have magic they will probably die" ? (I'm guessing it's the second one, but I want to be sure)

She didn't target the monsters, though. She only committed genocide on her own spells and their families, along with anyone else made of magic. The actual victims of oppression were unharmed, and some of them are already attacking innocent humans who had nothing to do with the culture that oppressed them.

There were deaths involved; that much was unambiguous. The Magic High Commission explicitly state that they will die when magic disappears, and we actually see some of their corpses afterwards. This is seemingly okay because they either agreed with Star's plan, or by that point in the story were demonized enough that they're clearly supposed to "deserve" their death.

There were also some unicorns who died, too. We see them and their children with their flesh melting off their bones. This is also supposed to be okay, because they were "corrupted" by dark magic so it's good that they died. Even the babies.

What seemingly got overlooked is that Star's spells are alive inside her wand, and can't live without magic. They all had their own lives, feelings, hopes, and dreams, and now all of them have vanished. We know there were thousands of them in there beforehand, even if we just count the spells directly created by the Butterfly royal family and not, say, the children their spell had on their own.

That's how many people are gone because of Star's decision. Keep in mind that these are just the direct deaths that we know of, not counting anything like the long-term collapse of magic-based societies.

That's the problem with using magic as a metaphor for privilege when it's also a sentient race and a natural law of physics.

She didn't kill any people at all, or at least she didn't if you're using a strict definition of people.

The MHC + Glossaryck were wiped from existence, with the "corpses" of Rhombulus and Omnitraxis shown onscreen (basically just a crystal and snakes + Omni's skull). The unicorns that lived in the Realm of Magic melted down to the bone in a randomly grimdark moment, even/especially the babies. All the spells in the wand are presumably dead, but we honestly didn't see anything about that one way or the other (and for as much as people REEEEE about that, I'm not even sure STAR had any idea about the lives they had inside the wand, even though of course the viewer does).

Everybody else seems to be alive. Mina Loveberry is mortal now since the spell keeping her alive through the centuries is canceled out, but actually survived the finale. It really depends on how big of a deal you're defining the above deaths as and also whether you really consider some to be alive to begin with (ex. the unicorns). But yes, multiple characters canonically died and it's up to you whether they count as people.

The problem with Star is that her multiverse was so ill defined there is no way to know how many people she actually screwed with her actions.

We know portals are gone, so at the very least thousands of people ended up intercommunicated from their acquaintances, friends or even work.
We know magic is utilitarian in many dimensions imagine a hurricane cutting basic services many people would die just by that even if they are not made of magic themselves. And not to mention the spells, we know for a fact they are dead, someone once posted how many spells she killed at the very minimum and it was on the thousands.

"Star did indeed screw over a lot of people by destroying magic!" - People will be pissed that the show ended with Star doing something heinous and suffering no consequences, all while being framed as in the right.

"No, Star didn't screw over anyone (who mattered)! And everything will work out just fine eventually!" - People will decry Nefcy as a coward for not following through on the implications of magic's destruction + the dimensional merge just so Star can do something big without actually suffering negative consequences. At least nine people will be salty that Heckapoo died while the laser puppies lived, despite both logically being made of magic.

All things considered, I'd respect Nefcy more if she goes with the first option.
