What made him such a good character?
What made him such a good character?
HONOR
HONOR AND A PEEEEEENIS
He wasn't
Name a character that is better than him from Avatar
He was extremely consistent, autistically driven, tried different approaches as opposed to just being "like super ultra powerful and cooooool", and had a powerful pathos and growth behind him.
Did any of the main cast have any serious flaws or head scratchers in their writing? Aside from the show never going into what made Iroh and Ozai fall out, despite the fact that they've both lost faith in each other to the point they haven't been in the same room for the entirety of the original series run.
Strong concise character arc, nice simple character creators knew not to go up their own ass trying to make him complex.
>straight white male
Shitty character.
Redemption arc. It’s easy mode for good characters.
Sokka, Iroh
a really full circle character arc with understandable motivations and character growth and depth.
Honourbound Ex-Villains are an amazing archetype too, look at Dinobot or Armada Starscream.
His uncle
he has a sexy ass mom and sister
He was a flawed character with his own aim and ambitions instead of a perfect being who does nothing wrong.
Is it true he became a massive fucking KEK in the comics?
Daddy issues
Sokka is not better, his Sexist too not sexist arc was lackluster and he was used as comedic relief too much to be taken seriously. Iroh was literally not that good, he was simply too perfect with no flaws
>he was simply too perfect with no flaws
Wow you are super fucking dumb.
Yes, unfortunately
He had a believable character arc and had a lot of flaws which gave him depth. His mistakes actually had consequences
which is why Korra isn't a good character
Not an argument
He was the character with the most time spent on his motivations and relationships.
What's up with the comics turning firebenders into mega cucks?
>when Mako had to say how happy he was to Korra an Asami
Kek
You deserve nothing less in response to your bullshit opinion.
who would read this garbage
Muh evil white males (which is funny cuz Fire nation is Japan)
Lol ok, Toph
Desperate fans will read and watch anything Avatar related
>Fire nation is Japan
I wish it something else. Japan is overdone.
They also made them Degenerate freak so the Good guys look better. Awful comic all around.
there's also a lot of Chinese and Indonesian influence in their aesthetics to be fair
China is Earth kingdom
China is a very large country with a very long history, the design aspects the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation borrow from just come from two different dynasties
True, but I would've liked to see some influence from Thailand or Cambodia.
You're overcomplicating things. Avatar is based on ww2: Japan vs China
there was
a believable redemption. He was struggling between good vs. bad for 2 and a half seasons instead of flipping sides in one episode like SOME SHOWS
His relationships with other characters (especially Iroh) helped to make him more interesting and helped to show his development over the series.
>he was simply too perfect with no flaws
>went from a warmongering general to a wise mentor because his son died, realizing the futility of war
shut the fuck up retard
He wasn't a one-note gimmick and went through a defined character arc. It's like, he was actually written and shit yo.
Earth Kingdom architecture is inspired by the Ming Dynasty, Fire Nation is mostly Song Dynasty with some Japanese and Thai stuff thrown in
>"you and I would reenact this very scene"
>Said scene is where one confesses their love to another.
WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING
also Azula playing the man and Zuko playing the woman just like in their sex life
The struggle.
They knew exactly what they were doing.
>China-based fire nation
>white
>Aside from the show never going into what made Iroh and Ozai fall out
Use your brain user.
And all that development was told off screen pre-series lol
I mean obviously there was always the issue of the crown, and being overshadowed, and then there was the prophecy, but what was the snapping point for the two of them? Why didn't Iroh ever try to avenge his father upon returning? Half the relationship between them is implications, and potential reasons for fallouts, in a series where the truth is often revealed to be much simpler.
this is why having a female MC in the current year is a bad idea. They can't be flawed, or have realistic consequences for their flaws, because thats sexist
>Korra left both spirit portals open
>Despite the fact that last time this happened, spirits nearly genocided human beings
>There are no drawbacks to this decision, and it somehow creates airbenders, and no other type of bender
For a show that's supposedly "woke", it did try to brush off genocide as something that can be fixed just like that.
Azula
Oh shit you got me
Have Sex
It not that Iroh was too perfect, it that his character arc already over before the start of the series.
But that's the problem, he stays the same OP uncle with lots of knowledge throughout the series.
Iroh probably don't want to start a civil war and still mourn over his son death. As for when they falling out, maybe it have been a constant thing, but when his son die Iroh realize how stupid and meaningless this war and his people obsession was. Iroh fall out not only with his brother who now represented everything wrong with the empire but also with his culture as well.
I thought the Fire Nation was Japan-based and the Earth Nation was China-based?
out of context
they were talking about the fight scene a panel earlier
They borrowed a lot from other culture too. Japan and China still the main inspiration but there also inspration from other too.
lol iroh maybe
unbased sokka poster, he is great and all, but zuko is on another dimension when comes to development and being an actual character, sokka struggles to be anything but a comic relief with the silly plan that actually works.
It isn't necessary for every character to have a visible development arc. Quite the contrary. It would've been to the show's detriment if the writers had gone by your metric of quality and written one for every single major character. It would've made things too cluttered. Plus it's good to have constancy. Iroh was Zuko's rock, a role for which he would've been less suitable if he were preoccupied with his own personal issues.
The sexual tension between him and Azula is literally the only reason I care
