Yeah, the co-creators of Drawn Together were pretty much both at the helm of Golan, to the point where they actually snuck in a few of Drawn Together's old running gags into that second season as a little nod to the fans ("Uh DUUUUUUUUUUUUH!" with the accompanying donkey expression was one that springs to mind off the top of my head).

I liked the 2nd season episodes a whole lot more. (Especially "Winter is Staying".) Even the lack of a Dad works for 2 reasons. It makes it more fun when Golan hits on Carole and vice-versa and it makes Golan seem the male parental figure for Dylan which just serves to make their pairing cuter and funnier.
The only thing I felt the first season did better was Dylan's first meeting with Swingley.
