Off the top of my head, Les Miserables and In Search of Lost Time both regularly throw the plot out the window to look at character studies or flat out history lessons. If people under similar political ideologues don't necessarily agree with everything the other says, if anything that supports my claim that Arin could be as much of a fag loving tranny as he wants and still hate black people. I'll admit that it's been the better part of a decade since I studied intergroup relations, but from what I remember (and what the studies at the time said), introducing racists to other cultures/diversity doesn't actually significantly reduce racial beliefs. Instead it creates a 'oh, well he's one of the good ones' view. The most effective way of combating racism is total immersion in a foreign culture (ie: someone who hates blacks spending an extended period of time in a predominantly black environment). Even that doesn't work very well though, the literature varies on why this is but my personal belief is that in-group/out-group dynamics are an inherent part of the human condition.

The best way to avoid racism is to grow up in a diverse environment from a formative age. If you are already racist it's very difficult to change prejudiced beliefs without extensive change or intervention to your lifestyle.
